Possibly my favorite place in Providence. My girlfriend and I enjoyed ourselves EVERY single time we came here when we were in college. If you go during warm weather, you can sit out in their patio that's really nice. On a rainy day, you can stay inside with a bottle of wine. The staff are great, gregarious people.
The food is amazing. Each time we go, we always get their calamari. We also love their margarita pizza. We went on Valentine's Day last year and I can't really remember what we got, but it was good.
Enjoyed a cocktail or two here...service was good, drinks were better, atmosphere...not amazing.

I went here this weekend with my fiancee while we up in RI on a trip. There were a number of very interesting looking shops and resturants on Wickenden Street, but we just decided on this one on a lark. And what a good choice it was!
Z Bar has a welcoming atmosphere from it's decor to its attractive and polite staff. Very chique and classy, but with none of the pretensiousness often found in such places in RI. The food and drinks were excellent. A bit on the pricey side, but it's a great place for a nice meal out with friends or a date.
For drinks, I sampled the peach martini, the dark and stormy and an irish coffee. The martini was delcious, but the dark and stormy blew me away. Goolsing rum and ginger beer. Great drink. And their Irish Coffee was hands down the best Irish Coffee I've ever had. Not to strong, not too sweet. Fresh cream. Perfect after meal drink.
I ate the Ahi Tuna wrap and it was wonderful. We split the Banana Foster cheescake - another delight.
I would definately come back here if in the area again.
For me Z-Bar is a late night destination for drinks, food is mediocre and actually a second thought. Not that I have ever had an awful meal here but it is not good enough that it stands out when I think of where to go on a Saturday night. This really has to be a destination because of the location, yes it is located on a busy stretch of Wickendon but the other restaurants are more casual not attracting the same crowd as Z-Bar. Street parking is nearly impossible, there is a lot across the street behind a building shared by the other restaurants but usually is full. Attracts a mixed crowd, younger when the colleges are in session. Outdoor seating during summer months in the back of the building.

The food is nothing spectacular, but I love Wickenden street, and this is the lone up-scalish (even if not fine dining) establishment therein. I love the patio, it has an urban yet beachy feel. They do fine light fare, and I have had exclusively good service. Looking at the other reviews, maybe ive been lucky, but this has always been a well above average experience for me.
What the fuck is with the dead hornet pic, Bryce (Elmer)?

I like the vibes at z-bar....they have, i think the best calamari around....
Almost always, I meet someboby new in that bar....something about it....before you go bring lots of money cause its pricey....
Z-bar has an outdoor patio, that is very nice....cianci, before he went in the can, frequented z-bar-- overall, good food with lots of class....
A gentleman said z-bar reminds him of Newport, RI

This typical average trying to be trendy restaurant/bar is tucked away on the main road of Wickenden St in Providence near Brown University. The street is lined with many restaurants. You would never notice this place on the corner seeing as it looks like just a regular bar. What it amounts to is a smaller trying to be upscale, trendy spot with an interior that the bar is the focal point and the tables are scattered all over like a maze. The staff is a bunch of snobby attractive college kids, that think they deserve to be working in NYC but really when it comes down to it are still working in downtown Providence. The menu has many selections that make an effort to look unique and creative, but in the long run it is just average food that is way overpriced and just all around bad. I would say the place is not bad to grab a drink if you can put up with the better than you, doing you a favor attitude of the bartenders. The hostess looks like he is still in high school and I came out of this place thinking I was just ripped off. Why don't you look more downtown Providence if you are going to spend this kind of money since you can find a larger place with friendlier staff and better food!
I don't get the place. What is the attraction? It is rather run of the mill middle of the road just dull.

Great restaurant. The seating is comfortable. Atmosphere is inviting. Bread is yummy. Menu isn't too exciting but food is prepared well.
I went here a couple of summers ago for dinner. The atmosphere on the back patio was very romantic and it was easy to forget we were in the middle of Providence. The service was also nice, but it did take a while for our food to come out. We had the carmelized onion goat cheese pizza on the special menu which was delicious.
