your typical mexican food place run by chinese people. we all know them, we all love them. its allllll the same shit and this place is no different by any means.... the super nachos rock. the chicken is a few steps above other chinese mexican places ive been. the price range is somewhere between where a homeless person could almost afford it and a starving college student living off of it. so you cant bitch about the price. if you do, your probably reeeeeally poor or a disgruntled mexican mad at the chinese ppl takin over your buizznasss... either way you should probably shut up.
there salsa needs a upgrade in spiciness. but its not bad. the only thing about this place is the jerkoff ghetto kids sometimes hanging out in there. they annoy me with there ordering one taco at a time and paying in pennies type shit. but thats about it.
hasta la vista.
Cheap Mexican food made by Chinese people? Sign me the hell up every second or third Saturday (or so it seems).
Their salsa...I would probably run over someone, in front of their own momma, for more of it. Seriously. NEED MOAR.
Best deal on the menu would have to be the $6 special which consists of 2 big tortillas, a ton of rice, beans, meat, and vegetables, AND a can of soda.
The tacos are good, a little greasy/soggy but not overly so. The quesadillas are also made well, but a little small. I had the Mexican pizza once, it was alright but nothing special.
The spicy cheese fries are also great!
Overall I could never recommend this joint. Not even to a person suffering from malnourishment and in some desperate need of food.
I ordered 2 fish tacos and a shrimp burrito.
The fish Taco, one of them, was laden with bones. 1/4 was left uneaten due to this and I didn't even bother trying the other one as working my way through a bland, bony fish taco is not my idea of fun times...far from it. After you've had a San Loco's fish Taco(either in miami or the one here in NY is amazing) a standard will have been set that can probably only be beaten by an authentic MEXICAN restaurant. L.A. has also spoiled me when it comes to mexican food.
The burrito wasn't wrapped. Everything was just falling out everywhere and made the biggest mess and it seemed they didn't even attempt to wrap it. The wrap tasted weird, like it was left somewhere that I don't want to think about. 1/4 of this was also left uneaten.
I didn't even try the beans because if you can't get a taco and a burrito right then what's next? Steamed chimichangas?
I immediately threw out both menus from this establishment as I never want to make the mistake in desperation for MEXICAN food of calling them. I'll wait until I visit me sister in Corona, Queens or I'm in mid-town.
I like the chicken wings here. The black bean taco is good, too. What I don't like is the order in which they make the tacos. They do it like this: shell, lettuce, tomato, beans, cheese. Huh? I like the beans on the bottom. I told em once, they gave me this confused look. The quesadillas are ok. They have a bathroom full of graphiti and overall the place is not too clean, but the food's still ok.
Here's the deal. If you don't cook and you're broke, Yummy Taco will keep you alive. For how long, I don't know. $4-6 stuff is really enough for 2 big meals. I dare you to finish a burrito in one sitting. It's actually a good place to pick up some cheap guacamole for your own dinner. Cheaper than buying avocados and making it yourself.
Cheap food, my old roommates used to get this stuff delivered even though we lived a block away (delivering $5 worth of tacos????) Yummy Taco is exactly what you'd expect, sometimes a little better, sometimes only slightly worse. It's better "Mexican" than that high-priced Manhattan shit that tastes about the same with the same degree of authenticity (read:none!), and at Yummy Taco you're not paying $9 for an average burrito and $4 for an average taco. The whole point is cheap!
If you're in the area and hungry, go get greased. It's sort of worth it.
my all time favorite take-out, so much so that the proximity of a Yummy Taco is a major factor I consider when apartment hunting. So cheap, so generously portioned, so good. Anything they put their glorious chicken on is divine. Try it over the mexican rice or in one of their delicious quesadillas or monstrous burritos. Their tostada salads are fantastic. My only word of caution: do not eat the guac!
I mean, have you had the steak burrito? Good lord almighty! That puppy is stuffed full of like a pound of steak, another half pound of beans and rice, and is served with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and Yummy Taco's tasty salsa.
It's not the best Mexican food I've had in NYC (see Noche Mexicana in the UWS), but for the price, this is the best burrito around. The tacos aren't bad either.
Suck it, Chipotle!
Not really mexican food. Has all the components -- tortilla, beans, hot sauce, cheese, etc -- but Yummy Tacos are their own entity. I love the soft tacos, particularly the steak -- it's delicious. The chili tacos are very tasty too.
I eat here often not only because the tacos are good, but all the ingredients are all-natural. I have eaten here maybe 100 times and only once or twice have they messed up my order. They have a great track record.
Once I tried the chicken nuggets and they were very juicy and good with ketchup. The quesadillas are also very good and can be a whole meal. I do not, however, recommend the mushroom quesadilla.
The only things that would make YT better is if they sold desserts, offered fountain soda, and took credit cards. Don't drink the coffee.
Yummy Taco... I miss you. I love their chili taco, which has the soft and juicy chili meat on a hard shell. I also tried their grilled chicken with Mexican rice with onions and green peppers and they give enormous portions. I can only finish half and I would bring the other half to work the next day. My brother is also a big fan of the buffalo wings. They are extra spicy, but not like traditional buffalo wings because they have less meat but good nonetheless. I tried a chicken taquito and it had the right amount of crisp to it. I just genuinely love their food because it hits the spot.
Here is the downside of it all. My boyfriend orders the chicken fajita meal and he had a very bad reaction to it. I think he was constipated for 3 days and he blamed it on our dinner at yummy taco. He went to the hospital and got checked for a hernia and was prescribed pills for his bowel movement. Anyway, my bf has sworn off Yummy Taco and now I am a little cautious when eating here too. But I can't stop, because the chili taco is a like a crack addiction. No joke.
I love yummy taco. Good Fast food and light on the pockets. Although i don't know how Mexican there menu is.
In respect to the Yummy Taco at 245 Flatbush Ave, this Yummy Taco acts like the little brother that doesn't quit. If you're feeling drunk and slovenly, this place acts as the perfect mess hall to cater to your inebriated state of mind, but not much else. Every bit of steak meat used in everything feels as if were scorched above a cremator as you miserly hand over your money to a staff that acts teed off that you ordered from them. The guacamole and vegetables aren't completely shopworn, but they're certainly not unwithered either.
On The Flipside However:
Nothing on the menu seems to be more then four dollars, which caters to the taco bargain-basement hunter. If you're down on your luck, or just flat out fortuneless, this place ought to be required. It's not an absolute bargain for your buck as you will be feeling it the next day, but this is the treaty you must sign prior to placing your order in an understanding between your wallet and your stomach.
I've gotten sick more than once eating this garbage- and yet I still go- because the quesadilla's are good and everything on the menu is soo cheap
should be called yucky taco
i've been to the yummy taco on flatbush and THAT one is the little brother that couldn't, shoooot. yummy taco is also way better than nyc's other chain, fresco tortillas - that place sucks big time. i used to live across the street from this place, and they were my hangover cure, my dollar meal spot and my i'm kinda drunk and hungry home. the people working the counter were always super nice, and since i was a bit of a regular generally knew what i wanted before i ordered, "three chili tacos, extra sauce?" yep. the chili tacos are super good. sometimes i would get the chicken and beans over rice, which is a generous portion and my roommates were all for the nachos (one preferred chicken and one preferred chili). yay for yummy taco!
