I KNOW THEY CANT SPELL "YUMI" BUT WHO CARES!!!

A part of me cant believe... that this wonderful, creamy, thick indulgence that they CLAIM is frozen yogurt is actually NONFAT??!!

Seriously, they MUST be lying. Because I can't believe it. HOWEVER I want to stay in denial for as long as I possibly can. Ignorance is bliss. Lets just continue to fool ourselves and "pretend" it's nonfat. But hot damn, if it IS non-fat, then helllllllll yeahhhh!!!!

This is old school fro-yo like TCBY, not tart or icy like Tuttimelon. Although, they're starting to serve tart flavors, which I haven't tried yet. I'll stick to what they're known for...

Notes:
-Satisfies the sweet tooth.
-Their frozen yogurt tastes like ice cream, with flavored syrup, which is good when you need a break from Tuttimelon type fro-yo.
-Largest CHILD size portion EVER! 80% of the adults order a child size.
-Plenty of tables to sit at (indoor and outdoor).
-Quick service, cash only.
-No samples.
-Parking sucks.
-Flavors change daily, menu isn't consistent.
-So many options, sort of confusing if it's your first time.

Even though I was super full from dinner, I still wanted a froyo fix.  My friends said there was a place down the street from where we were eating.  Let's go!

We drove up, and the parking lot was packed.  Good thing there's street parking.  The line was out the door, but it moved pretty fast.  This isn't your Pinkberry kind of froyo.  Its more like soft serve with flavored syrup mixed in.

The sizes start at child size.  I looked at the cup, and I figured I could eat more than that.  Since I wanted 2 flavors, I went for a medium.  BIG mistake.  Right after I ordered, I saw how much they actually fill the cup.  I got pistachio and strawberry.  Compare my medium to the child size( http://static2.px.yelp... ).  Holy crap!!!!  The froyo was actually really good.  Its different from the tart froyo that I'm used to.

Apparently this is still a local favorite.  The line never died down the whole time we were there.  I suggest getting the child size or small because you'll definitely get your money's worth.

After going to several new frozen yogurt places, I couldn't help but to feel a sense of relaxation when I walked in here. For one, I didn't have to worry about myself filling up a one-size-fits-all cup and feeling guilty about it later because secondly, someone was serving YOU! A nice break from self-serve frozen yogurt.

You can totally tell Yumi is a neighborhood-y kind of place. Young girls working behind the counter like it was their summer job, old-school menu to choose your fro-yo or even real ice cream, and iron-wrought tables and chairs on a small patio area to enjoy your dessert. All on the busy street of El Camino Real.

I decided to go for the coffee and cream frozen yogurt with almond topping. Luckily I read Yelp ahead of time and chose the child size. The young girl begins to fill my cup with the frozen yogurt part way and then adds almonds to the top of that layer. She then continues to beautifully swirl the fro-yo into and high above the cup's brim. Again she packs the almond pieces all over the sides of the yogurt, not missing a spot. And I happily gobbled the whole thing, not missing a drop!

The bf opted for theTropicana smoothie: mangoes, oranges, bananas and yogurt all smoothly mixed in a huge cup, probably a bit larger than the original size at Jamba Juice. That was yummy as well!

My creamy dessert and his refreshing smoothie were our ideas of the perfect treat for a warm night. What made this treat even better was that there was no line! Yumi Yogurt lives up to its name.

I love, love, love this place.  First of all,  it's a great deal.  The small is the size of most places large, but what brings me back isn't the value, it's the yogurt.  It is so creamy good.  I have tried the sugar free, which is 8 calories an ounce.  I have eaten sugar free yogurt at other locations and it either lacks  flavor or has an unappealing texture.   Not so here. When the sugar free  flavor is chocolate, you taste chocolate, when it's eggnog, you taste eggnog.  I find myself looking for reasons to come to San Mateo.  Give it a try,  you'll be back for more!

Yumi Yogurt brings back some serious memories. This place is the real deal, I've never had anything here that wasn't good! When I worked out in the Peninsula, me and the girls would Rochambeau on who would make a run in the summertime for our fro-yo fix!

this own must be crazy for service huge portion of FroYo. I ordered a small size, and it came with two huge towers of FroYo.  The taste of FroYo was more like soft serve ice cream, it didnt have the tart taste as i expected. But it was great tasting. I gave it a 4 stars for huge portion on a very affordable price.

I am strictly a girl that does not leave the house without make-up. You will never catch me at the mall walking around with my pyjamas and ugg boots on. Hell, I dont even own ugg boots, ew. But my love for Yumi is so great that I will willingly go there at ten at night with my room mates, in my eeyore pyjamas no less, hair in a ponytail, just to make it on time before they close. I always get the childsize and NEVER finish it cuz its sooo much. If you havent been, GO NOW. Now, go on, you know you want some.

A friend introduced me to this little gem of a fro-yo spot awhile ago. Every time I'm over by Hillsdale Mall I try to stop by for a froyo treat. After many visits, it's safe to say that this place is consistently yummy. Some other pros about this place include:

-Huge portions (start with a small size, trust me)
-Great selection of flavors (Wow Cow also available)
-Traditional offering of toppings with recently added mochi bites
-Other yumi items on menu including smoothies, ice cream
-Awesome big-ass neon sign
-Outside seating area

Unlike trendy by-the-weight fro-yo places, Yumi Yogurt is old school. You walk up and actually order off a menu on the wall and someone behind the counter makes your fro-yo delight as you drool, watching your beautiful item being put together. This last time I went I had the mint chocolate wow cow with oreo toppings. The best part was when the nice lady stopped after filling my small up about 2 inches to put in a bunch of oreos and then resumed piling on the froyo, only to finish by smashing in more oreos along the side. I also ordered a California smoothie for the hubster, which I tried and absolutely loved.

Some quirky things about this place include the weird location (single short building off to the side of the road seems like someone just plunked down a business without any forethought about foottraffic) and parking lot (long and narrow). Look both ways while exiting the parking lot lest you risk getting whacked by oncoming El Camino Real traffic. In addition, I concur with Jennifer L. about the "green" issue. I think all froyo places should go green to further their healthy-living image! Lastly, I don't know if it's me but some of their toppings looked stale. (I could be wrong about this because I didn't try anything this last time except for oreos, which were slightly stale.)

Go, run, and visit this wonderful little fro-yo place.

It's not the typical pinkberry or sogreen, this is a small mom and pop ice cream shop that has yogurt on the side, it's kind of like penguin's yogurt.  not good.

Pros: none

Cons: not very good, no cook toppings

I'm pretty sure I could get used to a place like this. This is truly a little diamond in the rough in such a crowded, noisy, polluted atmosphere. It's hard to pass up on tower high fro-yo and awesome swirly rainbows of intense guilt-free flavors like mocha fudge and cheesecake. I was fortunate enough to pop in on Wednesday for their original tart and ordered the child size which I couldn't even put a dent in.

The interior is a total mom and pop place and makes you feel warm (because of the lack of air conditioning) and reminiscent of your childhood. The staff here is quite friendly and enjoys joking around with the small children and answering the same questions all day long.

It's also got a really convenient patio area with plenty of seating in an enclosed area. I feel like I'm in someone's backyard when I sit in their outdoor patio area. (Sigh.) If there was only some fun luau music and outdoor lights here-it'd be bumped up to a 5 star fro yo joint.

So this froyo craze has been going on for the last few years, but I never felt the urge to give it a try... until last Friday, when it was insanely hot, and I had just finished a round of miniature golf.  My friend raved about this place so much I had to check it out.  It was about 6p and the line was already out the door, and by the time we left, almost reached the parking lot.

Pros:
1) GINORMOUS portion
2) Pistachio flavor is so, so good
3) Plenty of toppings to choose from
4) Very reasonable prices

Cons:
It's located too far for me to make daily trips.  Boo.

I can't wait to go back!

It's definitely not what I'm used to.  I like tart frozen yogurt like pinkberry with fruits.  That was exactly what I was expecting to get when I came in here, but nope.

Ordered the small Pistachio Yogurt. The small wasn't so small, it was HUGE!

I was expecting it to taste like pistacchio, but it didn't really and they had some green food coloring on it to make it seem more pistacchio like.

What really didn't like was that they don't give samples...HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW IF WE LIKE IT OR NOT IF U DON"T GIVE SAMPLES. ridiculous!!

My friend told me this is her favorite Fro-yo spot, so I tried here last week.
I was so hungry when I arrived, so I ordered "Large" size cup with half Plane tart & half White chocolate raspberry.  Their large size is really large!!  I shared it with my husband but it was still enough :)  oh, the large size was $4.75.  that's really cheap for the amount.  I'll definitely come back and want to try different flavors.

The portions here are HUGE! And prices are significantly lower than most other frozen yogurt places. I came here in the middle of the day on Saturday but didn't see much of a line. I do wonder though, whether the creamy goodness that is their nonfat fro-yo is truly nonfat. Seems too good to be true.

The frozen yogurt we had was good. I had the pistachio flavor with heath bar pieces covering it which is a great combination and I'd recommend it.
The whole family and our daughter's friend that we brought with us were happy with the treats they had.
The only complaint I had was that the place needs a serious scrubbing and  a fresh coat of paint.
I'd come again but if they improved the look it would be great for business.

The only other frozen yogurt place I like besides Costco. The prices are really cheap and I think tax was already included which was surprising. I'm not sure if they've changed the prices though.

I love their frozen yogurt flavors! I got the butter pecan flavor in child size. It was a adequate portion except my friend kept eating from it even though she said she didn't want any. Psssh. It wasn't that busy when I was there and there were plenty of seats.

I'm hesitant to drive here by myself though. The parking looks really difficult and with my driving skills, I'll probably accidently drive into Yumi Yogurt itself.

This place is dangerous.

I live about 2 minutes away and no matter what time I come here, its usually always crowded. They are super generous with their portions, both fro-yo and ice cream and it's definitely a good value. Today I decided to get a double of Lappert's strawberry (yum) and blueberry cheesecake (double yum). You would think a double would be like 2, maybe 2 1/2 scoops, but lets just say that it was probably the equivalent of an actual pint! And for $4.50! Thank goodness I usually get it to go, cuz i'm not going to finish that in one sitting....

The other winners I've had here were the plain tart, pomegranite blueberry, chocolate peanut butter and the pumpkin. Vanilla and chocolate are just as good as well.

But no matter what you get, unless you're really hungry get the child size or the single! It's way more than enough!

I liked the authentic atmosphere, good service, huge portions, and tasty ice cream here.  They've been in business for many years, so they must be doing something right.

Last time I had their macadamia flavored yogurt, which was very tasty, but not something that I find myself craving afterwards.  I must point out that I'm biased towards full-fat regular ice cream, and I don't eat too much frozen yogurt.  If I were a connoisseur of  frozen yogurt, I suspect I'd rate this place a little higher.

Way back in the day this was the spot. Not so much so anymore. The prices have been raised too much to justify the headache it has become just to get a simple frozen yogurt. The headache being the line out the door and the fact that regardless of the myriad of flavors listed the bottom line is they are nothing more than chocolate or vanilla under different names. It has also become another in a long line of businesses that act like it is an inconvenience to serve the customer. The kind where you feel like you are bothering them when you walk in the door. Myself, I'm willing to go the unhealthy route and pick up a 1/2 gallon of ice cream that lasts a week for roughly half the price - and the yogurt here isn't THAT much healthier.

Yumi Yogurt is a fun place to stop for a tasty treat if you're in the south San Mateo area.  They have American sweet and Tart style yogurts as well as ICE CREAM for those who haven't gone over to the yogurt fan club.

I agree with other posters about the sizing.  Get the child size unless you have a huge sweet tooth.  It's a small cup but they realllllly pile on the yogurt!  The generous quantity makes up for their higher than some pricing.

Yumi has a nice patio that's surrounded by beautiful flowers.  It's relaxing to be outside eating your treat and is a good contrast to the neon and crazy random inside.

Though their yogurt is ok, I'll stick with their ice cream.  When I want froyo, I'll still head to Red Mango or Frozo's.

See ya there!

When I used to work the salt and coal mines in San Mateo (yeah i'd alternate).  I would go here almost every other day. It was a little escape from the daily grind. The decor is a little run down but they do have a cool patio you can chill in while enjoying your cone. But who goes to a yogurt shop for the ambiance?

I can't seem to find another place quite like this one where its the frozen yogurt I remember growing up in the late 80's when the craze hit.  (Not the super sweet and tart kind they have these dayz blech)  I still try to hit 'er up when I'm in the area which is almost never since I moved to the east bay.

Never had a disappointing cone of yumi goodness, Enjoy!

Since I was a wee tot I love love love Yumi Yogurt.

Why you may ask - well frozen yogurt is probably one of the best inventions of the 21st century and this place is excellent.  Every time I go in there are at least two flavors I want to get and this place let's you get as many flavors that will fit into the cup!  And the sizes are big...they don't hold back when pouring you a small - its more like a small LARGE.  Here are my top 5 favorite flavors:

1.  Cookies N Cream
2. Peanut Butter Cup - so peanut buttery
3. Peppermint
4. Pumpkin (when in season get it)
5. French Vanilla ( I know it sounds plain but it is excellent!)

Next time you are dying for a treat check this place out you will not be disappointed!  Luv you Yumi!

Classic San Mateo favorite!  I've been coming here since I was four.  This was the first frozen yogurt place I've ever been too  before frozen yogurt got so popular & "different" with tart flavors & such.  All the flavors I've tried I've liked & even the child size can be shared between two because they always stack it up.  I usually opt for the size above the child size though since every size up is only 25 cents more.  And I usually get half and half of whatever sticks out to me on the menu.  Their frozen yogurt is really sweet though for you that heart the tart!

The only downsides to Yumi Yogurt is it can get really busy so trying to find a seat inside/outside can be difficult as well as parking.  And they still only take cash, which I hate carrying around!

We really love Yumi!  It is creamy, delicious yogurt and the portions are very generous.  I always get their fruit flavors, but their chocolate flavors are delicious too!  Love the chocolate with Reese's peanut butter cups.

The employees are usually nice, the man working tonight gave me a few samples to try and that was appreciated.  Sometimes, I go and the employees barely speak, whatever. There are a lot of toppings to choose from-candies, cereals, nuts and fruit.  They also offer yogurt swirls and a variety of ice cream flavors.  Now offered is a plain organic tart fro-yo that is only served on Mon, Wed and Sat.!  I wish they offered it everyday as it is so good!  The raspberry tart is good as well when it is offered.

My only complaint is the location and how difficult it can be to turn out on to El Camino, especially during peak hours!

The owners just got a nice new BMW to replace their aging Mercedes.  You'll find it parked every day in the spot closest to the door.  Seems like a discourteous gesture to your patrons that the owners park in the best spot.  The frozen yogurt is fine, but I don't like patronizing a place that shows such disrespect to customers, even though the customers are the ones who "bought" the BMW for them.

I love frozen yogurt, and that's what Yumi Yogurt does, plain and simple. And even plain sometimes, too, they have a plain yogurt flavor that's tart and refreshing and yeah, probably not for everyone, but I can dig it!

Anyway, I don't know how much I can say about frozen yogurt other than Yumi does it well. They're extremely inexpensive and their portions are HUGE. I almost always get the smallest size because if I tried to get a medium I think I would go into lactose shock.

Knocking off a star partially because they don't take credit cards, but mostly because I don't know that I can give a place that just does it's job 5 stars. It's froyo, if you like froyo, you'll like Yumi Yogurt. It's certainly not the end all be all of yogurt places, though, so don't drive from Phoenix just to go there.

Overpriced?!?!  Are you kidding me - have you been to any of the other yogurt shops in our area?  Red Mango, Harmony, etc.?  You get less than half the amount you get at yumi yogurt.

Now, regarding flavors, yes, they have a lot of fancy names for chocolates/vanillas.  But, when it comes to sugar free/carbo lite, they have the best tasting yogurt hands down!

I only gave it four stars because the store itself is pretty awkward.  The place is incredibly popular, and with any sort of crowd, the store gets awkward and cramped.  Sometimes, I really want frozen yogurt but I'm reluctant to come in here if there's a line.
But the frozen yogurt is delicious, and the servings are pretty gigantic.  It's a nice place to go on a summer night when you have a sugar craving.

I went to Yumi Yogurt for the first time today after yoga class. I know it's counter productive, but I figured it's a better alternative to regular ice cream.

I wasn't in the mood to eat any of the fruity, tart flavors, so I got the chocolate cookie flavor with Oreos. It was delicious and the yogurt was so smooth. The amount they serve you for a child size was definitely more than enough for me. They also serve ice cream as well if you are not a yogurt fan.

I went at night, so the place wasn't crowded. But in the summer time, I'm sure this place is packed. The parking lot is really small too. Good luck if you have a SUV!

I love the fact that the child size is enough for two people! Yum!

Flavors are good - some variety, lots of good toppings, and good service. They have a nice little patio to sit outside, but I don't know how fun it is to sit there when the trains pass by a mere 20 feet away.

The parking situation can be hairy during the busy times, but worth the extra effort.

When it comes to Frozen yogurt i can't think of anyplace better
the Flavor Blast is what i'm talkin about
the infuse frozen yogurt and syrup is GENIUS
there's a perfect mixture of amazing with every bite
i hate going here at night because its just
RIDICULOUSLY crowded!!
unfortunately i'm not willing to wait in a huge line for frozen yogurt
when i can just drive to the next yumi yogurt ^^ haha
honestly i love yumi yogurt, i especially enjoi their servings
even tho the cups look really small, the amount of yogurt
they put inside easily is three or four times larger than the container
i definitely enjoi going here whenver i'm in the san mateo area

I Love It, Its Each Bite is Seriously a BURST of FLAVOR in Your Mouth
