It has been a really long time since I've gone to Yumi Yogurt!! Let's just say that I've lived in Redwood City now for 7 1/2 years and this was my first visit to the Redwood City Yumi Yogurt!  Years ago I worked near the San Mateo location and would go there often.

Decided today after picking up my nephews from school that I wanted to get a jamba juice- well on the way waiting at the signal I remembered that Yumi Yogurt was just across the street.  Asked my new if he would prefer Jamba Juice or Yumi Yogurt- so froyo we got!  The portions are so generous, the froyo was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful  I think we all enjoyed our late afternoon snack and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm even going to bother with dinner tonight!  I think I had my dinner already!

Cash only, which is how the terrorists win...
Double excellence when they ask you to use the pocket raping fee based ATM that's in their store. Hell even the evangelicals running In-N-Out realized that plastic isn't the mark of the beast, at least not yet.

Order a medium, get a buttload of guilt inducing carbloaded blase soft serve. It straddles that area in your mind where it is just good enough to cause you to ingest it but not good enough to make you feel anything but remorse that you blew your calorie budget going there. Good job cuz now your mirror hates you. Way to be thunderthighs maybe you would feel better drowning it in some M&M mini covered meh soft serve but it's 10:01 and all you have is plastic, No Cash.

I've been a fan of Yumi Yogurt since I attended the High School across the street and used to bum money off of friends just so I could have some!!!

They used to carry peach and raspberry quite often, but the times I have gone recently they haven't had it. Most recently, I tried the blueberry cheesecake (no chunks of cheesecake BTW.) It was YUMI... Get it, Yumi (Yumi Yogurt.)

Anyways, if you have never been then you should know that they do not carry the same flavors everyday. :( They have a great pistachio one as well, but it isn't there every time.

It's kind of a fun surprise to see what they have, but if it's a hot day and you want what you want then you're better off going to some other place with the same everyday flavors.

They do carry a very small selection of regular ice cream, but if that's what I wanted then I would go to that other place.

The service at this location is always great! Don't judge the staff by their appearance I've learned.

A kids scoop is definitely more the a child's scoop at "that other place", but well worth it! I'm getting a craving all over again!

They do not accept credit cards so bring cash or use their ATM inside the store.

If you're looking for quantity and quality fro-yo, Yumi is your place. They always give you decent sized portions (although San Mateo's location still wins out for the most fro-yo in a serving) and it's more of the old school kind of fro-yo. It's creamy and no-frills what more can you ask for? I've never tried the tart flavours, but if you're looking for good traditional flavours that taste more like soft serve ice cream than yogurt then go to Yumi. You won't be disappointed. This one isn't self serve so if you prefer having your fro-yo served to you then this is definitely a good choice.

On one of my lone forays to find great food at a reasonable price, I found a reference to this place from a food blog. It sites this place is more than 25 years old (was froyo even invented 25 years ago?) and they serve big servings at a much lower price than regular froyo places.

I'm pretty glad they were true, you get a lot of Froyo just for the maybe 2/3rds of the price of those expensive places. They have a bit of a variety when it comes to flavor too.
I picked Roasted Pecan and Creme Brulee, both which are non-fat (Is this really non-fat? Its too good to be non-fat!)

There's a line if you come in during peak hours so make sure you time it right.
As for service they were alright, cash only though. There is an ATM in the place (2-3 tables inside, 4 outside) pretty cramped inside so might as well just bring some money instead of looking over your shoulder while getting some cash from the ATM.

I just got to try this location out.  I happen to live near the one in San Mateo.  Ok, what I liked was the portions and the quality.  What I didn't really enjoy was the very small parking lot.  I was also sad they didn't have original tart, I ordered what I thought was the original but nope it had nasty pineapple and coconut in it.  Peh!  But my other flavor that made up for it was Brazilian Chocolate, OMG that was so good a hint of cinnamon.

NO credit, minus one star!

I'm a big fan of frozen yogurt.  I don't think I've met a froyo I didn't like.

I have never been to a froyo joint that sells quite this mountainous of portions for such a good price.  The self-serve places are twice as expensive for the same gargantuan amount.  Two people can easily share a medium and be full.

They have more flavors than a normal froyo joint usually 9+ flavors!  Peanut butter is my favorite.  It's super sweet and creamy and probably the only flavor that isn't nonfat.  The great thing is that they also have tart flavors which I tend to crave as well, depending on my froyo mood.

They have tons of toppings which they also pack on generously! They fill the bowl half way, pour on the toppings (I thought this was the final serving), and then they go back to the machine, swirl practically the same amount on the top, and spoon on the rest of the toppings to cover the entire surface area with pure GOODNESS!!

The place is covered in neon lights, so it is not hard to miss.  And if the neon lights don't help, the full (small) parking lot or the line out the door will.  This place seems to be a favorite for many.  I love the greenery around the place and the quaint outdoor seating.  The only thing is that the seating is right next to the train tracks, so don't get frightened by the immediate train whistle! I DID! M&Ms went flying haha.

I would trade in a regular meal for this every single day of the week.  I LOVE it! All the girls that work there are lovely as well despite the constant line of customers yelling orders.

I believe this place only takes cash, so remember the ATM before your trip!

Yumi yogurt is soooooo yummy :)

Eh.

So I've been here twice and I'll tell you why there'll never be a third time. It's the customer service.  Both times, they've gotten the order wrong and when you're paying over five bucks for a cup of froyo or anything, that's not cool.

During my first experience, I ordered two varieties: cookies and cream and chocolate heath bar. I only got one. It was the chocolate heath bar. I admit they give you a ton of topping, but when you're paying a dollar for it, they better load you up. Anyhoo, by the time I finished my medium-sized yogurt, I was sooo sick of crunching on that damn heath candy even though I love toffee. At this point I realized there was no second flavor; the counter girl totally gypped me on my cookies and cream. Too late for getting that fixed.

I then went back a couple of weeks later. This time I had to wait in line so I had time to consider what I wanted. I finally decided on the chocolate fudge brownie. What can I say? I'm a chocolate girl. When I ordered the chocolate fudge brownie, counter girl was not even listening. I repeated myself and then she repeated my order. Yes chocolate fudge brownie. I did not put two and two together when my froyo came out white. She asked about toppings and I thought 'well I'm already here, I might as well get something bad" so I picked the crushed oreos. More white froyo on top.

She handed me my order. I did not lick the top swirl. I decided to scoop it with a piece of the oreo. HUGE mistake. It was not chocolate. It was sour.  DISGUSTING. WTF. That's when I made the connection. She gave me tart. EWWW. I immediately told her she got my order wrong. She denied it. Said I had ordered tart. No. I didn't. I said my order at least twice. I'm a chocolate girl; why would I order anything else?

She finally gave in and here's the kicker. She took my cup to the back sink. I saw her scoop the tart out. She brought the cup out and proceeded to fill the SAME cup with remnants of tart still inside with the chocolate brownie flavor. I took it back because, hey, it's good money I spent on this.

So anyway, I really don't like froyo as much as other people. I tried to be fan and order it. I don't like the attitude of YUMI yogurt. I don't find it delicious. I don't enjoy getting the same nasty cup of my rejected froyo. And you know what? It doesn't hurt to smile.

So YUMI, you lost me. Maybe you never really had me. But there is no turning back now. Peace out.

Just got into the frozo-yogo craze...so after driving by this spot for over a year, I finally got to try it this weekend.

It's definitely a cute little neighborhood spot where groups of friends, families, and couples enjoy dessert and chill. Pretty cool that they even have a drive-thru. For being a partial cloudy day they were still pretty busy. As I walked in I saw they had a variety of flavors. I was a bit disppointed because I was looking for fruity flavors and exotic flavors, but didn't see many as I was expecting. Still....I tried a few flavors including the cookies n cream and new flavors blueberry cheesecake and the white chocolate. I didn't like them too much, but I can see what some yelpers talk about with regards to service here. The people at the counter weren't too friendly. They look pretty irritated to be working there. So I didn't try any more flavors even though I really wanted too. I ended up with the strawberry vailla swirl and cookies n creme (since this flavor is always a must).

For a small (which cost $3.75) you can choose up to 3 flavors, but I only got 2. Each topping is $1, so I skipped on the toppings. As far as quantity they definitely don't skimp out on that. It was huge!!!... so brownie points for that but since I didn't really like it here because it was too sweet and I only ate the Cookies and cream half. Nonetheless, I can definitely see why local residents come here especially on hot days but honestly  this place just ain't my cup of tea probably since I've had better.

After trying Yogurtland in Cupertino, I like that place a whole lot better because it has unlimited flavors, unlimited toppings, it's self serve, and you pay by the ounce. I really feel in love with that concept (which is what acutally got me interested in trying other froyo places).....so I'm probably looking for something along those lines. So all I gotta say is..... which frozo yogo place is NEXT???

Yumi Yogurt is YUMMY yogurt.

Tastes like soft ice cream, HUGE portions, inexpensive.  Ever leave a yogurt or ice cream place and there's a weird after taste?  Doesn't happen here.  This place was delicious.  I liked their tart plain yogurt.

This is a review for the tart flavor. I've been trying tart (sometimes called natural or original depending on the shop) all over the peninsula, and I have to say this is my least favorite so far.

On the plus side they give you a huge amount, but this tastes like soft serve, not yogurt. I also got chocolate sprinkles, which were cheap, they didn't tast like real chocolate (the sprinkles at Red Mango taste way better, they taste like real chocolate).

For my favorite fro yo go to fraiche or harmony.

it's normally about 8.55pm when my girlfriend and anyone else in our house pleads for me to do a Yumi Yogurt run.  Of course they're not interested in any of the stores which are around our home in Menlo Park.  No, they have to send me to Redwood City. It might only be 15 minutes drive but when you've got your feet up watching your fav TV show, it may as well be in San Fran.

Being a Brit, I hadn't had much experience with Frozen yogurt.  I really thought it was pretty much all the same.  Having been a regular there now for nearly two years.  I've never had a bad cup... The variety of flavors are always of an exceptional quality.  The staff are efficient and polite.  The store never seems to be quiet in an evening.  How many cups have they sold?  It surely must amount to an ocean. Hagen Daz has certainly taken a back row for me in the desert stakes and my brownie points with my girl are are on the rise.

there's a line up even at 9 PM weeknights
we're talking real value here...
the largest petite/child size fro-yo's i've ever seen, and the quart size, well now that's ridiculous -- someone should post a photo
(i had a "small" of 2 flavors and thought it would be equal to a large at any other yogurt place)
they know how to spiral it high
the froyo is very dense and super smooth and cold
they don't serve the tart kind though -- even the one labeled "tart" flavor was not tart
however the flavors were nice -- great chocolate caramel cookie and pomegranite berry organic, didn't like the gingerbread
while it's non fat, sure doesn't taste like low sugar!

I can tell a place like Yumi Yogurt is not a place that normally serves tart froyo.  How do I know?  Because their attempt at original tart is just no good.  I had a sample last night and don't think I could have stomached more than a lick.  It was a strange creamy/sweet tart.  If you're going to get anything here - stick with the sweet flavors.   Furthermore, the fruit they served looked so not fresh...it was scary.  It looked like canned fruit that had been sitting out for too long.

So after much debate last night, I opted for toffee coffee mixed with vanilla.  It was rather sweet for my taste.  I had four bites and was done.  A waste of $4 I guess.  My fault.  I should have just not ordered anything.

PS. I agree.  The service is not friendly at all.

The warmer weather we've been having makes me think SPRING! Passed by Yumi on my way home to San Carlos this w/end...and thought...must celebrate w/a frozen treat. I actually passed it & instead of causing the people behind me to kill their brakes, drove by, turned around at the appropriate intersection & came on back...Wish others would do same...have been behind too many people who see the sign & whip right in.

Anyhoo...haven't been here in about 2 yrs. But have read the reviews on yelp re the organic yogurt.  HAD to give it a go. It was...drum roll: yumi!!! Light, lovely creamy texture & did not need any of the good selections of toppings available here. Hey, why ruin a good thing???

I don't know of any other place in this area of the peninsula that serves bona fide fro-yo. And organic at that. If driving down the El Camino, stop in & treat yourself...I am glad I did! (Please, other fro-yo fans...give the drivers behind you a break...the fro-yo will be waiting...)

Felt a need to get my Yumi Yogurt on so headed here at the right time since there wasn't much of a wait. Turned out the wait was less than 5 min after they took my order!

I got the shortbread flavor which I don't recommend. It was way too artificially sweet...something like a mix of french vanilla and white chocolate. I couldn't even finish the child-sized portion that was bought for me. Despite the flavor, this place remains one of my fave dessert places. The non-fat fro-yo is smooth, light and creamy.

New additions to the place included the more stable and strong brown/reddish tables and chairs. Much more sturdy.

Yumi is one of our favorite fro-yo places!  Their yogurt is very creamy and doesn't melt too fast.  Love their fruit flavored and chocolate yogurt, flavors definately are srong in all flavors. They now offer an organic tart fro-yo which is mildly tart, citrusy and delicious! Swirl yogurt is also available in many flavors. The portions are generous and there are many fresh toppings-fruit, candy, cereals, nuts, etc.

The staff here aren't very friendly.  Samples are given out by request.  They only accept cash, but there is an ATM available inside the store if you forget cash.

For some reason I never feel guilty coming here as I would going to Baskin Robins or Cold Stone, not sure maybe because it says "Fat Free" everywhere. Their frozen yogurt is always delish and plentiful. I couldn't imagine ordering a large because their smalls are more than enough for me.

My all time favorites are:

Swirl Chocolate and Vanilla w/ gummy bears!
-or-
Strawberry swirl!

YUMMY!!!

They have quite a large selection to choose from.

I first had Yumi Yogurt five years ago while visiting the Bay Area. I ordered a large, being a pretty big fro yo fan and all.

. . . Holy man, people. Their large is ginormous.

Having learned my lesson, I now order only small cones of their Blue Goo  (I don't even know what flavor it is, but it's pretty and summery and turns my tongue purple, so it's my go-to) frozen yogurt and still find myself full of fro yo until well past dinner.

It's cash only, so be prepared.

This location is very, very small and they don't offer as many flavors as their location in Santa Clara. They also don't offer many tart flavors and the only time I'd come back to Yumi is during the Halloween/Thanksgiving season when they have the pumpkin and pumpkin cheesecake flavors. AND that would only be if Tartini had run out of their pumpkin flavor. All I know is that I can defo get my froyo fix at better joints that this!

Generous amount for a reasonable price.  The child size must be for a child that weighs at least 100 lbs (me) . . . Smooth, creamy, not overly sweet - liked the berry berry, cookies 'n' cream, and the plain yogurt.  In my fantasy world, there would be a drive thru fro-yo/cupcake/chocolate place on every corner, like Starbucks.

After my girlfriend treated me to a wonderful lunch in Redwood City we were in the mood for dessert..Should we get a high fat ice cream cone or should we pay a little more and get a yogurt.?.Since we are both super health conscious and would like to stay in excellent shape we went to Yumi Yogurt.....I had the no fat strawberry- peach cup...It was delicious ,smooth and thick....they give you a generous portion to boot!....If you have the same choice i did between regular ice cream I would go with Yumi Yogurt every time!!.........

Upon eating lunch at a nearby restaurant, I saw these people walking by with HUGE yogurt cones. I mean, this baby was a mile high.

Then I saw the yogurt shack. I love frozen yogurt, and had to try this place.

What I loved the most was the organic yogurt. Not too sweet, no artificial colors, just pure yogurt goodness. And the swirl options are awesome.

I think it is funny that you are allowed, like, only two samples or something like that. Obviously there have been too many customers like me frequenting that place.

Hey - I like to know what I'm getting myself into! If I am only allowed TWO flavors in the small size, I better make the right choice.

Yumi Yogurt isn't the place to get a healthy treat. It's not the place to enjoy tart flavors, unlimited toppings, fresh fruit, or friendly service. If you want that (or the first three, at least) make the trek up to Yogurtouille in San Mateo.

Why go to Yumi Yogurt? You want something that tastes like soft serve ice cream. You want something sweet, desserty, and convenient. Their sweet flavors are solid and the portions are generous.

People reviewing this place based solely on their tart flavor/fresh fruit options should probably take a closer look at what this place is trying to accomplish. It's an ice cream stand, essentially. Look at it. It's tiny, dirty and hoppin'. It just happens to sell frozen yogurt instead of ice cream.

I mean, I'm not ragging on Yogurtouille for not having the best cookies and cream fro yo; the two types are different specialties. Check this place out when you have a sweet craving. :)

Tasty froyo, and good selection of flavors and toppings. It's true that flavors change regularly, but if you're a chocolate or vanilla kind of person, there will always be some yumi variation there to satisfy. Portions are VERY BIG. I order a mini and find that it's enough.

i used to frequent yummy yougurt about 3 years ago and since the recent influx of fro-yo everywhere, i haven't been back.  i had the vanilla with almonds but why do i remember it being better?  maybe it was an off day for me because i was more thirsty than in a fro-yo mood.  their prices are quite reasonable than most places and i love that it's an old bay area institution.

it was my bf's first time at yumi and for some reason he wasn't impressed.  he wanted more, but then again he got a small.  but why do i remember their small being piled higher?

i'd go back... but because i love old school places like this.

Having grown up in the 1980s with the frozen yogurt craze -- y'all remember the women with crimped hair and leg warmers going on the frozen yogurt DIET? -- I have a lot of nostalgic love for Yumi Yogurt, so I broke my no-dairy rule to try some Yumi and see how they've held up over the years.

And well, what can I say?  Just no.  Big fat no.  Yumi Yogurt?  More like Crummi Yogurt amirite?

Seriously though.  $3.50 for a "child-size" serving of really blah, bland, run-of-the-mill yogurt with more red food coloring than the real strawberry flavor that it was supposed to have?  This was an absolute waste of money.  I'm a fan of good value and so if my order had been priced at $2 or $2.25 I could see myself giving three stars, but $3.50?  For THAT?  No.  Next time I want to break my no-dairy rule, I'll do it with something that's worth my time/money.

This place is the '80s/'90s style yogurt that has endured big hair and grunge - not at all the healthy Fraiche/Pinkberry style.  No, this is old school, chemically enhanced, candy-flavored goodness.
The trick is to pick the right flavor.  Most of them aren't worth the calories - regardless of how few they are.  Three words...Cookies & Cream.  (Peppermint is pretty good too.)  But, the C & C has the flavor of ice cream and is what keeps Yumi in my speed dial so that I don't waste the trip if they aren't serving it that day.

Amazing, and I hate them for it. I can eat this anytime of day, all the time.  Been coming here for about 15 (gasp !) years now.

In high school, I lived 4 blocks away so I had their number programmed on speed dial to check their daily flavors. Amazing how inflation works, in 1996 it was $1.40 for a child's, now it's $3.50.

Cheap person tip: they charge a dollar something for an itty-bitty bit of toppings, I just bought almonds, peanuts, and gummy bears from the grocery store and dump them on when I'm scarfing at home.

The orginal vanilla is my favorite, but don't let that stop you from trying out a sample or two of some of the more seasonal flavors.  Don't let the small cup sizes fool you either, I've seen grown adults walk out with the child size portion which is filled with more frozen yogurt than a regular cone.  I routinely get the small size which is only a quarter more than the child's and it's stacked maybe 4 inches tall, that's 3 inches taller than the lid of the cup!

Yummy serves creamy style froyo, but they also have some tart icy flavors as well if that's more your taste.

Cash only establishment with about 10 chairs inside and another 10 outside.  The line moves extremely quickly so don't let that deter you from checking out this gem.

I LOVE this place and have yet to find a yogurt shop in the area that can even compare. They have a great frequent buyer program and give the most yogurt for your money. Seriously, they pile on the yogurt and don't hold back! They have different flavors every day, but you can always find some variation of chocolate and vanilla. I'm not a fan of tart flavors, so their options work for me.

One piece of advice: make sure to sample a flavor if it is new to you. The low fat, low sugar, low cal flavors may not have the taste you are looking for.

I should start by saying that I really love frozen yogurt... and I lived in Santa Barbara for a year where there is almost no good frozen yogurt so I have an even stronger love and respect for frozen yogurt because I missed it so much for a year...

Yumi Yogurt delivers amazing flavors and very generous servings of both the yogurt and the toppings. A child's size is actually usually plenty of yogurt for me but I still usually order the small or share a medium with a friend or family member... make sure you sample a few flavors to make the right choice and it's always a very tough choice with the super options!

There is usually parking and often seating too which are both added bonuses...

I don't know why they call themselves the best because they're not.

On my lunch break, I went to this location because this is the only frozen yogurt place in a 1 mile radius from my workplace.

After waiting in a medium line, scanning at the flavors I noticed they had a sign that said plain tart on Weds, Thurs, Sat, and Sun. So, I'm like...OOH! That's what I came for.

When I got to the line the girl said they don't have plain tart today but that they have peach tart. I asked, why does the sign say that they have plain tart today, she replied, "oh, I don't know, but we have peach tart".

Since I had been waiting in line, I was not going to leave and so I ended up ordering the peach tart with mochi and strawberries.

Although there was alot of quantity, it was not good quality. It was not tarty at all! The fro yo tasted like a plain unripened peach and was too creamy for my fro yo tastes, that I didn't even it. What a waste! and I usually devour fro yo to the last drop and this was not the case.

This place isn't the worst though...but its near there.

I would definitely come here again if I want more thick creamy "American style" froyo! It's a nice alternative for the tarty ones sometimes. =)

Yumi yogurt is what I described of an "American style" frozen yogurt, which is more milky and not tarty at all. As much as I like my frozen yogurt tart, Yumi serves really good "American style" froyo! The texture is thick and creamy. Imagine the density of McDonald's froyo x 10! It's nice because I had my froyo for half an hour and it didn't melt much at all! So I can actually enjoy it slowly.

Yumi actually has what they called a "plain tart" froyo. It's not too tarty but it's pretty good. It reminds me of Red Mango except the tartiness of Yumi's plain tart froyo tastes a little like pina colada...I tasted a little pineapple and coconut to it...maybe that's where the tartiness and sweetness come from.

The prices may seem expensive, but Yumi gives you huge portion. A small (which costs $3.75) is like a medium or even a large at other froyo places. I ordered a small and my froyo is like 3 inches above the bowl's height (which is like 1 inch).  I love the swirl, so thick and pretty!

The service is okay. Everyone who work at the store seems a little grumpy. It was quite busy and one dude ordered over ten to go froyo, and an older lady kept telling him to call in next time. She didn't seem friendly at all. The place is quiet small, barely room to move around when there is a line. Though, I don't think it's a big factor if you just get your froyo to go. The counter is pretty clean, but the floor and tables are okay...look a little sticky.

Non-fat yogurt that tastes like super creamy soft churned?  Hell yes. And order a petite, but get a mound bigger than a soda can? Hell yes.  This place is always crowded with lines out the door and the prices are pretty low.  Best bang for your buck.

Always great flavors PLUS we get quarts to take home and keep in the freezer.  Only $7.50 a quart.
