The smoked saba is great.
The chef was not here today so didn't get to try sashimi so will go back again and try all some.
Yuki is probably one of the few Japanese restaurants in the area that is actually operated by Japanese.
The menu itself is not super impressive and almost limited compare to others. The grilled dish such as the eggplant is not bad but way too salty for me while the soup dish seems very bland.
However, all the raw dishes (ex. sashimi) here are super fresh and delicious. At Yuki I had some of the best and freshest uni (sea urchin) and amaebi (raw sweet shrimp) I've ever had! I will totally come here again just for that.
Best ever Calamari steak... ok, the only calamari steak I've ever had.
We added the hamachi kama, spicy white tuna hand rolls w/mayo base, a georgia roll, the sashimi combination, nasu no dengaku (eggplant) and a(n) (un)healthy dose of sapporo.
I really, really enjoyed the hamachi, the nasu no dengaku, and the hand rolls. They also had a white board full of fresh specials, wiping each one out when they ran out of ingredients. I would come back to try out more in hopes of finding more goodies; like discovering the next best secret.
You know, I didn't think much of this place considering it was tucked and hidden when I visited it at night. I ended up leaving happily full.
After reading so many good review, finally tried it yesterday lunch time.
I agree with Mahidhar R. that it is pretty expensive compare with other (not locate in big mall). The Saba tastes good. Beef is so so. Clean environment. But the menu.... pretty confused. Don't try the lunch special with combination (2 menu selections for $9.95). That one pretty mislead. Simply one dishes with 2 items from 2 menu selection. In my case, it is a Saba and 3/4 SMALL pcs raw fish. Very expensive compare with other places with same good taste and portion. Basically, I would like to rate it as two only. But give it one more star because of environmental friendly, and clean places.
Since I haven't been there in 10 months or more, I am just amazed by the number of people that think that this place is worthy of 5 stars. Not exactly what I would call "fair and balanced" reporting.
The food is pricey compared to other sushi establishments. If I want good sushi, I'd go to Sono sushi in Mtn. View or Satomi in Fremont.
The service is substandard. It takes a long time to get service there at times, including instances, when it is not extremely busy.
Every time we went there, we always seemed to get stuck next to the door where there is a draft. Without fail, I might add, even if there is an opportunity to be seated further from the door.
I learned of this place from a family friend who, fresh from japan, claimed that this place was her favorite place for japanese food... and you know what i always say "dont poke your finger into cages with wild animals... you might get tetanus" err... maybe thats not the saying i was going for... but feel free to insert any you feel appropriate!
That was when they were at their old place in front of Ohlone college... and the food has been just like its always been... fabulous!!! The sushi is great and although im not a big sashimi eater, the times i did have some raw fish it didnt have any off putting scents or flavors... The omelette sushi is artfully and uniquely served... try an order its delish too!!!
My favorites...
Ginger beef: thinly sliced beef seasoned with what has to be a secret seasoning probably blessed by jesus himself!
Teriyaki chicken: I am like my beagle... i have to watch what i eat or ill fatten up like a popular fat kid whose friends all have their birthdays in the same month and have a penchant for ice cream cakes from coldstones... but back to the chicken... its white meat and not greasy! and never came to my table dry like chicken breast often is...
Smoked salmon skin hand roll: THE BEST i have ever eaten... i could be cliche and say that i had an orgasm in my mouth but that would be vulgar... how about a group of pink fairies dancing on my mouth...that happened to be smoked.... and wrapped in seaweed...
Katsu: always tender and juicy and not overly greasy...
Salmon Kama Dinner: delicious!!! dont be scared of the collar of the fish people!! its great and makes me wriggle in my chair....
The weird noodle thing seasoned with uhm... yellowy egg goodness: awesome as a cold side dish... esp with the ginger beef....
Now the service isnt great... i generally think they are understaffed... but i am the kind of person who can overlook little problems like not getting my water refilled...
Yuki himself is awesome!!!
PS i like periods...
Went there on a Saturday night. The place was surprisingly empty.
The food is OK. Typical Japanese fare; not outstanding, not terrible. Sake was very dry (which is a good thing). Food seemed pretty fresh.
(side note: I do not understand the popularity of mayo on any sort of sushi or sashimi item. I had to order my stuff specifically without it. But that's neither here nor there.)
The review for this place is taking a major hit because of the fact that they decided to close early that particular night. That wouldn't be such a bad thing, but we were told to 'hurry' and order before the kitchen closed down. Um, really? It was nowhere near the posted closing time of 9:30. Let us decide what we want to eat before you lot decide to shutter the place early, why doncha?
Furthermore, while we were eating our food, someone decided that it was a good time to begin vacuuming the carpet. We did not agree, and had to ask to have the damned thing turned off. Twice.
We're there shelling out rather hefty amounts of cash on dinner, and you're dropping subtle-as-a-nuclear-bomb hints to leave? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
OK, it's a slow night and you want to cut your losses since it's clearly not profitable to stay open. But I don't think that pissing off the customers who ARE there, is ever a smart idea. Especially since the word is bound to get out.
I'm going elsewhere the next time I have a maguro craving.
Are there any good sushi places in Fremont? I was skeptical as I proceeded to go to this place without first checking the yelp reviews, a first in a long time. *GASP*!
I was surprised to see the parking lot pretty packed on a Wednesday night and indeed, the restaurant was also packed inside. I had to order in a hurry since I was slightly late meeting my friend and her two coworkers. I rushed a bit and selected the 3 item combo ($17). Not too long after, the cute waitress came with my Salad and Miso Soup. The salad was pre-made and refrigerated so even the bowl was ice cold while the miso soup was just typical. The interesting part is that each item comes separately rather than in the typical giant bento box.
I'm particularly puzzled by the calamari steak because the thickness of the calamari must have been a good 3/8". It was IMMENSELY good and I enjoyed every bit of it. The ginger beef was thinly sliced grilled beef served on a sizzling platter while the maguro sashimi was interestingly fresh and tender. I did not expect it to be that good and so I am intrigued by how good the nigiri selection is. I will be coming back for a more thorough food experience outside the dinner combos contrary to my friend's belief that it's because of the cute waitress. I swear.
DISAPPOINTED. i kinda want to give this place 1 star but i feel like it would be too mean. i came here with anna d. and grace y. for lunch. i was hoping that my sushi craving would be fulfilled but i was totally wrong. i ordered the combo sashimi lunch and an order of spicy tuna rolls. my sashimi was cut so THIN that i felt like i was just eating leftover bits. i didn't like the smoked salmon or my tuna being seared. i mean c'mon! grosssssss. the fish also had a yu(c)ki texture to it that i didn't like at all. my spicy tuna rolls came with a sauce on top (much like you'd find on a baked salmon roll). i wasn't sure i liked it or not but to me, it's not a spicy tuna roll. it's some specialty roll now. i ate my food anyway but still feel like this place was a disappointment. i won't be coming here ever again.
Still as fabulous as ever Yuki!
I went there the other day and sat by myself at the sushi bar and ordered a few things.
- Mirugai grilled (special)
- Maguro
- Ikura mini-don
- Salmon skin hand-roll
So beautifully arranged, presented, and overall of course, TASTY! Ikura was a little too salty than usual, or so I thought.
The only thing I would dock points for was the fact that I had to flag down people to ask for tea refills. When you are at the sushi bar, the waiters don't necessarily come towards your way all the time. Other than that, great service, tasty food and good bang for your buck.

Yuki! Yuki! Yuki! This is the place I come when I'm not really looking for a large assortment of sushi to choose from - when I want something like Udon or Teriyaki. Though, don't get me wrong or misinterpret or anything, the sushi that they have is DELICIOUS!
I have been here multiple times before but I always forget to review.
But last night I came back for dinner with the boy. I ordered their udon, he ordered their mini unagi don, and we split a rainbow roll. The Rainbow Roll looked like it could have been cut better - a sharper knife would have done the trick, but the sushi was still fresh and very NOM-WORTHY. The boy said he enjoyed the mini unagi don, and how it was the perfect size because he wasn't THAT hungry.
I have had the Dragon Roll before and that is good. The people next to us had ordered a Hamachi Sashimi dinner, and the hamachi looked really fresh and tasty.
You should definetly give this place a try if you're in the Fremont/Mission area looking for sushi. The service is also friendly and nice.
I'm bumping it up a notch because I went again and ordered more stuff - very fresh uni! Same good service, didn't get hurried out after we finished eating - my friends and I actually stayed almost until closing time and never felt rushed. Of course, we checked - no one was waiting for our table.

Yuki is still as good as ever! I had the smoked salmon kama for lunch today and it was as delicious as ever. I've found no place in New York City or San Francisco that serves up smoked kama (of any sort) that matches up to Yuki's. The smoked salmon kama was not even on the menu, but they allowed me to order it anyway.
I recommend their fish entrees; the rolls are good, too, but the fish is excellent. My co-diners had grilled hamachi, steamed gindara (black cod) head, and steamed basa; the fish was extremely fresh and succulent. Our server informed us that Yuki (the owner) goes to the market at least three times a week and their fish stock is always consumed within two days of purchase.
Yuki is a rare culinary gem in Fremont.

Yuki is simply excellent! My wife and I grew up in Fremont and lived there for several years after… Read more »
10 months ago my then BF had planned to take me out for sushi. But as we were about to get out of the car in the SF Japantown garage, I had news. Big news. A bomb of some news. Life. Changing. News: a little bundle of joy was on the way. *Insert shocked look & nervous laughter from then BF-&-now-hubby*
From that day on it was good-bye sushi, hello shotgun wedding! Well, not *really* a shotgun wedding, but for reals no sushi for this mama to be. O sad day! (this mama LOVES her sushi!)
Alas, fast forward to today. The bundle was born and sushi was officially back on the menu! But where to go for good, fresh fish in Fremont when you have a potentially explosive newborn? Well, apparently, you go to Yuki.
Yuki is a small and inviting sushi joint in a not-so-cute strip mall. Since it was Saturday night, the place was packed and a nice buzz filled the room -- the perfect white noise to drown out any spontaneous cries from the bundle. We were seated a table big enough for the 3 of us sans any attitude (some places frown upon bringing kids along). In fact, the service was really friendly and efficient.
It was weird, but since I hadn't had sushi for so long, I almost forgot what to order. Fortunately, my hubby/baby-daddy has mad sushi ordering skillz. We opted for the large ama ebi and lobster sushi specials, toro, uni, hamachi, sake, unagi, maguro, a California roll made with real crab and bright orange tobiko (my choice, not his), fried oysters, and a small hamachi collar that was grilled to perfection.
The sushi was nicely constructed and the fish was fresh -- everything was delicious! And quick! And again, the staff was really nice and super efficient. Maybe that's just how they roll in the 'burbs? I dunno but I like it! I also liked the price. Considering what we'd ordered (hello lobster, ama ebi and 2 orders of uni!) the price was relatively inexpensive.
It's comforting to know that there's a yummy sushi joint so close to my new home... I can't imagine having to schlep into SF every time I had a craving for shiro maguro or ama ebi, you know?
My favorite place in Fremont. I'm pretty critical on sushi places, especially for the real stuff (not rolls and terriyaki). The sushi is fresh and done right. The food is consistent and that's a huge plus! Reasonably priced too! There can be a wait, but it's worth it.
Tomi Sushi in San Jose is also one of the top sushi places too.
Don't ask me why I was in Fremont.
I usually freak out seeing outer suburb area.
It's so flat, so nothing going on, so bland, so isolated and so gray.
Nothing.
It's nothing out here.
It's like watching one of the old Twilight Zone TV show like.
Also, I have to admit that I was a hater of Non Japanese Sushi eaters.
Yes, I was.
But Not anymore.
I was with 5 Asian Guy.
5 Secret Asian Men. 5 SAM.
1 Indy
1 Fillipo
1 Japo
1 Hawa-Jap
1 Chine
1 Latino ( Yes, I treat latino people as Asian, we speak English same.)
Asian Guy's night out.
By the way, ...
When would you take your date to a Chinese restaurant?
How about 1st date?
Would you offended by that your date ask you for a dinner at Chinese restaurant?
I'LL SAY YES.
No Chinese for 1st date.
I'll wait for at least on the 4th date.
Taking my date to a Chinese restaurant is like ......
It should happen after go in bed together like thing.
I think Chinese restaurants are great for a family friends gathering place but it isn't romantic enough.
Chinese Men from China are sexist, aren't they?
Their marriage is all arranged so they don't need to have a date so they don't need to be romantic.
I think it's Asian thing.
Asian men are sexist, so as latino men.
So as the Japanese restaurant.
It is great joint for any Asian guys to get together for bitching about co worker, bitching about boss, bitching about wife, bitching about mother in low and bitching about everything.
Anyway, at YUKI, we had.....
Chicken Tatsuta-age was GREAT.
Deep fried whole small octopuses were AWESOME.
Smoked mackerel was really funky GOOD.
Salmon Teri-Yaki was Teri-Yaki, wasn't Tery-Yuky.
3 croquettes, 3.5 diameter, was hot, Good.
Many deep fried salty shit.
Dinner combo 17 bucks, you choose 3 main dish from, I forgot how many, was a great deal.
I really liked the noodle salad, it come with any combo dinner.
Food here was really good, but .... the place isn't fancy.
But it's in Fremont.
It doesn't have to be fancy, does it?
But,...
you don't find that good Japanese restaurant with the price in the city.
WE ARE ASIAN MEN.
And WE ARE SEXYSEXIST.
We have been here two times. I liked the selections they have, some of the items we can't find it in other restaurant. We order the super vegetarian roll, boiled tofu with napa cabbage and chirashi. Everything was fresh. The service was above average. I thought it was a little bit on the pricey side. I noticed that there were a lot of japanese customer. Don't go there late on Friday because it was packed and you have to wait.
Hey! NOT bad, not bad at all! And this coming from a sushi elitist. I was pleasantly surprised since this cute lil restaurant is tucked away in a not so visually appealing strip mall.
I came here with 3 other friends on a Thursday night. 6:30pm, the place was pretty quiet. But by the time we finished around 8pm, the place was packed and folks were waiting. The service is pretty good and the wait staff very friendly. Naturally as the night got busier however, we had to ask several times for the same request.
I can't comment on the rolls since my foolio friends ordered before my arrival and no rolls were included in our delicious spread. What they did order was sashimi - maguro, sake, hamachi and amaebi . They were all very fresh and flavorful, especially the hamachi. The pieces were pretty generous as well. YUM! The Unagi Don also had very generous pieces of unagi and not drowned in the sauce. This was pretty standard since you can't go wrong with this dish but still very tastey. We also had some grilled hamachi and salmon (not sure what the japanese name is) and these were definitely a treat to the palette. A little lemon juice and voila! The fish melted in your mouth.
Nothing fancy, but all in all the food was fantastic. It did end up being a bit pricier than anticipated however. $135 incl tax and tip and no, it's not cuz we drank like fish. Only 2 beers and 1 sake (all $5 each). I'd go back for sure.
I love this place! I've been coming here since I was a child and still come here as a young adult. The sushi is excellent and so is everything else! I love their specials, which always change, and they serve Japanese food... stuff that my mom makes that you can't get anywhere else.
I love that it's not Americanized with fluffy-named sushi and all that. It's just real authentic Japanese food.
When you see a bunch of high schoolers, dressed to the nines, eating their prom dinner here, you realize Yuki really is the best Fremont has to offer for dining options.
This place is a regular weekly dining venue for my BF and I, a real gem in the city of strip malls. The mini-dons are perfect in size and price, allowing us to also enjoy a nice homey Ochazuke (the salmon over soup+rice), and various nigiri favorites as well. The tamago nigiri is especially worth ordering: they give you a huge block of the sweet egg, wrapped around sushi rice. Also, the rotating specials on the whiteboard jazzes up the already large menu.
Compare with other Japanese restaurants, Yuki has the higher quality service and decent food ! I love this restaurant a lot and I'm a regular customer. (When every time we have Friends come over, we always took them to eat Yuki).
Try their rice ball ,dragon roll and mini unagi don. Awesome! Even their miso soup is good. We get the same thing every time but never get sick tired of it ! The eggplant with miso was really good, too.
The service is great, too! :) We love and enjoy having dinner there.

I came here for lunch with my friend. I don't eat seafood, so I had Donburi (chicken and egg). The taste is really just edible. Maybe the sushi is good. I don't know. But my friend loved her sashimi. She cleaned up everything.
Waitress was very prompt and friendly.
2nd time to this place and got the husband to go with me for dinner. We ordered enough and even have enough for tomorrow's dinner.
Lam roll (yellow tail, avocado, green onion & eel on top) $9.50 - very tasty. Waitress likes it too.
Combo dinner (choice of 3 items) $17 - we picked ginger beef, salmon misoyaki, & calamari steak. Calamari steak was nicely grilled and not too chewy, I was surprised I liked it. Ginger beef was served on a sizzling platter - too bad the beef was dry. Bean sprouts on the side. Salmon misoyaki was ok w/ a side of spaghetti salad. Comes with a side of miso soup & salad.
Baked oysters - on the special board $5.95 for 6 pcs. Very nice w/ the oysters & some greens & topped w/ cheddar cheese.
Grilled hamachi toro $5.50 - good size grilled fish w/ side of spaghetti salad.
Extra bowl of rice & soup for me.
Total was like $44 before tip. Recommended restaurant.

I have been to Yuki twice and both times I ordered the grilled Saba (Mackerel), it is my favorite dish. And at Yuki I can never get enough of it, but I can never bring myself to finish all of it. They give four large pieces of grilled deliciousness and I always end up with half it left to take home and enjoy the next day! hahaha...uhhh yah. awesomeness. :] OH and this was the first time I had Age Gobo and it was delicious too!
graet hamachi, i decided to take my father out to this place that he has been wondering about. i hear that his aqcuaintance is friends with the owner and believes it to be a great place. and yes, it is. it is some of the best hamachi collar that i've had anywhere.
bear in mind that it is a small place with great food and should be arrived at early due to over flowing crowds of the waiting.. who are also trying to beat you to their limited supply of ever succulent hamachi. so now, you have been warned to get their early. they do have a white dry board by the sushi bar to display their daily specials which is kind of hard to read. i have only been their once and am unable to give them more than 3 stars soley on their hamachi but will be heading back soon to try out the rest of their food.
btw their uni was also the best that i've had.
screw it, 4 STARS!
;D
Thank You Yelpers! We wanted something close to where we are staying right now and found Yuki on the list. So, we called for take-out and went and picked it up. They did a great job getting the order correct which I'm always nervous about so they get extra kudos from us for this. When we walked into the place, ah, nice lovely smell of fresh food. Not a hint of fish in the air which is a plus for the hubby! All in all this was a great suggestion and we're definitely going back!
BY FAR THE WORSE SUSHI i had ever had.. Sorry looking pieces of nigiri and maki that were the size of bullets.. i ordered the spicy tuna came out not spicy at all there was nothing in the tuna that indicated the spicy red sauce- all it was.. was a mush of tuna.. and the one with what seems to be ranch sauce on top felt like i was eating a tuna sandwich .. WTF..
Seriously if i wanted plain tuna rolls, I would've ordered it! ..TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT.. if you can't make spicy tuna roll right you should be FIRED!! how hard is it to make it?!?... okay let's say you ran out of hot spiracha sauce than you should have NOT made it in the FIRST PLACE?! i don't even know why I gave these guys tips.. - _ - first time experience and never again!
i'll just stick with Nijo at least they know how to make sushi right
I came here with my family a few weeks ago and we made a reservation ahead of time. When we got there we had to wait just a litle bit for the table, which is okay since it was probably around 5 minutes.
This place is a bit hard to rate because the items we ordered, I mostly thought was pretty good. The down side is the service and the small menu. There isn't too much sushi to choose from and although the place was packed that night, it took them a while to get us our menu and water/tea etc.
The bento boxes are okay but I didn't think it was that great. I've had better elsewhere and I think this is the first Japanese place I've been to where they don't have tempura.
The best part about this place is the spider roll. I've had spider rolls at a lot of places but this one was one of the best I've had. They include an entire soft shell crab in the spider roll and cut it up into 6 pieces so you get huge chunks of soft shell crab, which is the main reason you order a spider roll right? The lam roll was also very good and I would go back in a small group for the items I liked. It gets a lower rating for the slow service. It's also a small restaurant and it was full when we went. You can make reservations though.
This is by far the best Japanese restaurant in Fremont. Don't go here for the sushi, because it's not that great, but everything else here is excellent. The restaurant is run by people who are actually from Japan, which is very unusual in Fremont (most of the Japanese restaurants here are run by Koreans or Chinese people) so the food is very authentic- and delicious!
We ordered quite a bit (my friend has a huge appetite!)
Monkfish liver pate: This was excellent in my opinion. The pate had a "melt in your mouth texture" and was exceptionally smooth, topped with a slice of lemon, green onions and in a soy based sauce. This dish gets five stars from me!
Uni nigiri: Fresh tasting, but on the small side. Worth it, though!
Calamari steak: Perfectly grilled, served with lemon. Yum.
Rainbow roll" Tuna avocado on the inside, and different kinds of fish on the outside. I was surprised that there was so little rice on the inside. The salmon also had a smoky flavor, which I didn't really like in this roll. It was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Not sure what the rest of their rolls are like, but I am curious.
Fresh oysters on the halfshell: Very fresh, topped with green onions, lemon and a clear sauce. Very good. Beautiful presentation.
Deep fried- then baked eggplant: Very good, but with a very strong taste. If you order this, make sure to order a side of rice to balance out the flavor.
Baked oysters topped with cheese: I didn't eat this because I don't eat cheese but my friend said it was spectacular.
Miso soup: Decent, but I have had better. There were noodles in it, which I found a little strange.
Beef teriyaki: My friend ordered this and said it was wonderful. I don't eat meat, so I didn't try it.
The ambiance is quite nice here, too- very modern and clean. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly, and everyone else that worked there, as well. The prices are a little high when it comes to certain things (and extra ginnger is $3, which seems a little ridiculous to me), but Yuki totally delivers when it comes to quality and good food, in my opinion. I can see myself becoming a regular here.
Sometimes, I find myself in this neck of the Bay Area. And I've always felt like there was nothing worth eating around these parts. And then we found Yuki.
For the record, I generally don't eat sushi in the Bay Area. Don't get me wrong, I love sushi. But I dislike North American style sushi rolls with all kinds of crap in it. Spicy tuna roll? No thank you. The Sriracha sauce is only added to cover the dankiness of day-old maguro. Rainbow roll? WTF is that? How can anyone appreciate the delicate flavor of sashimi over the unseasoned-rice filled with fake-crab-seafood-mayo-salad? Don't get me wrong, I'll eat this crap if someone offers it to me, but it just feels like a waste of fish. Why don't I just order nigiri, you ask? Well, I get my fill of sushi in Tokyo.
So don't expect a review of the sushi at Yuki from me.
The grilled fish offerings are pretty good, but the salmon kama (collar) is smoked. Not sure how I feel about that. It's not bad, but I prefer a straight shioyaki (salt) version. The hamachi kama (not smoked) is quite good and definitely worth ordering.
Age gobo (fried burdock) is excellent. Every time i order it, I can't stop eating it. It's addictive, a lot like some really good fritz. Another good fried dish is the chicken tatsuta age. It's tough to go wrong with fried stuff.
Their mini dons are a nice menu addition. Nice to be able to order a small donburi (rice bowl) without going all out into meal-size portions, as it's far more enjoyable to eat a little bit of several things than to stuff oneself on a single dish. I had the ikura (salmon roe) mini don, which also has shredded omelete on it. The ikura itself is ok, just your standard asian-supermarket-variety. But that's fine -- I'll take 'average' ikura over no ikura any day.
And service is good. Except as soon as they close, they start to vacuum, even while customers are finishing up their dinner.
Price is very reasonable, but maybe because it's in Fremont. If Yuki were in San Francisco with San Francisco prices, I would give it 3 stars. They get the extra star for being where they are and charging what they do.
I was sick and had the udon today....I swear it said there'd be chicken in there, but I didn't see anything. My friends said they liked their meal, and I had a bit of the chicken teriyaki which I thought was pretty good. While my friends had the miso soup and sald which came with their meals, I thought I got jacked because my meal was more expensive and it didn't come with a soup or salad. The udon was not the best I have had, actually ranks pretty low on the ladder.
Our tea cups were empty most of the time, and if my friends and I weren't so busy chatting up a storm, I would have said something to our server...but it wasn't until she was refilling every other table's cups, was when I said something to her.
The menu was really limited. I think there might have been no more than 10 rolls that were offered. I had the spicy tuna roll (which was not spicy at all) and a california roll. Both were just.......eh.
I wouldn't come back since it's all the way over in Fremont and I can have better in San Jose.
Yuki sounds like a Japanese Go Go Dancer dressed in a Sailor Moon outfit! But being that we were in the City of Fremont. You won't be greeted nor find Go Go dancers in Sailor Moon outfits or any other anime character. What you WILL find here IS Go Go Good Sushi!
Hidden in a corner of a semi run down strip mall that has seen better days; next to a Walgreens and behind a Taco Bell. Yuki is a bright haven for Fremont-Ians looking for some good decent sushi!
This sushi joint isn't overly small nor is it big. I think this place can accommodate roughly 30 people with 5 or so seats available at the sushi bar. I wasn't super hungry and being that this was my friends go to spot for sushi. I gave her the baton and told her to run with ordering.
We started off with a Large order of Salmon Harami
[ http://static.px.yelp.... ] . Being that I'm no longer a lover of Salmon. This dish did bring back a nostalgic taste to my Salmon loving days!
Next came the Georgia Roll [ http://static.px.yelp.... ] . Really... I don't know how Sushi Masters come up with naming rolls. I didn't see anything that reflected Georgia. Nevertheless it was GOOD!
The Spicy Scallop Roll [ http://static.px.yelp.... ] came next and it was pretty good and not Spicy! The Uni Sushi [ http://static.px.yelp.... ] was fresh but it wasn't something memorable.
Lastly, the Lamb Roll [ http://static.px.yelp.... ] was awesome! The service was attentive but a lilttle slow on the Tea refill service. I was a bit bummed out that there wasn't any Mackerel Left...oh well...some other time.
I guess The City of Fremont isn't that Drabby after all. But I do think that IF there were places with Sailor Moon Go Go Dancers. People would have more of an initiative to visit Fremont!

Rye's Notes:
- Fremont Does have good sushi Places
- Don't worry about the strip mall
Still the best Japanese food in the area. Still authentic and delicious. Still a lot of food for a Japanese place. Still creative, but with the assurance that comes with the real training of a Japanese-trained chef (from Japan, in this particular case).
If all you want is a super-long list of colorful, multi-multi-multi-ingredient American-style rolls like you find at Semo Sushi et al (not that there's anything WRONG with that), or if you are totally ignorant of Japanese food, PLEASE do me and the people in line behind me for some actual Japanese food a favor: Get your name off the waiting list and go somewhere else!

Don't tell anyone, but this is the most authentic and delicious Japanese food for miles. I don't… Read more »
My mom and I used to meet up here for lunch over the summer. We'd drink tea, order bento boxes, and talk about our days...I have years of fond memories at Yuki. After lunch, we'd always go to Tapioca Express next door to get a drink. The atmosphere at Yuki is relaxing, and I like how small and cute the place is. The food is always high quality, homemade tasting, and clean. Fish is always cooked just to my likin. Nothing's ever too salty, burnt, or greasy. Consistency, baby!
But I don't know if it's the recession or what, but everything now seems so expensive. Did the portions also get smaller? I drink a little extra tea and stay a little longer just to get my money's worth. I think bigger portions (even if it's just more salad or some pieces of fruit in the bento) would easily bump this place up to a four star joint.
I still like it here though. Mother-daughter bonding is not something to be messed with.
Ok, everybody, sing along:
Sometimes you want to go
where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows your name.
Ok, now that we had the musical interlude, I can get to the review. Yuki's is phenomenal with their service, sushi, and food. It truly is a place where they know your name after only a few visits. Yuki, the owner, makes all the sushi to order. There is none of those stale rolls sitting out . Their meat selections are perfectly seasoned and served on a hot skillet. Service is attentive and helpful and best yet, all prices are very reasonable. If you have not tried Yuki's, you need to get over there ASAP and order yourself some delicious Japanese food.
The quality of the sashimi is good and the service is not bad. It is not a particularly fast paced or slow paced place, and there is certainly a lot to be said for their specials, which nearly always please. For the price, though, this place is pushing the bill a bit (pardon the terrible pun). The portions are small, but they are extremely tasty.
I do have one specific thing to mention: their tofu. Eat it with bonito. Or its pretty tasteless.
Came here for dinner tonight based on the reviews since I had been craving Japanese food. This place is not the hype that Yelpers make it to be and I am so disappointed! I was really looking forward to eating here.
Selection on the menu here is incredibly sparse here as far as rolls go. (REALLY sparse...!) We settled on a side salad, a mini-don (salmon sashimi over sushi rice), an udon, and a rainbow roll to share between DH and I. When the food came, I was so surprised at how small the rainbow roll was in diameter and how lacking it was compared to other ones we've had elsewhere such as Satomi Sushi, Momo Sushi, Ninkimono, and others. I love sushi and I've had a fair share of it in places near and far, domestic and international. I've never had such low quality and thinly sliced fish put in and on my sushi before. It was quite sad.
The udon was very bland. Boring. Dull.
They did give a generous amount of sashimi and shrimp on top of the mini don which I was very happy with. Each slice was very long and thick. Unfortunately, again, the fish was texturally awful and not what sashimi should be like.
The salad was fresh, cold, and crisp. Not all Japanese restaurants can say that about their side green salads in my experience. It was the only thing that actually surpassed my expectations.
The prices here are also quite expensive for what you get. DH and I were both disappointed and do not plan on returning which is quite unfortunate because it's conveniently located and a really clean restaurant with friendly staff.
Being in Fremont, there are a lot of sushi restaurant and most of them are not that good. We used to go to Sushi Harbour all the time but the quality seems to have gone down quite a bit there since they first opened. After tried Yuki Sushi, we have been going there exclusively for our sushi fix.
I have to say that I am not a roll kind of person so my rating are on nigiri sushi and other dishes we have tried.
The fish there seems to be always fresh. We got into a habit to start ordering off the Today's Special menu first which seems to have do us good everytime. We are not used to order Tamago (egg) sushi before we have kids because we always feel egg sushi is overpriced . But having tried it here in because of the kids, it just so well prepared that we now order another plate of it just for ourselves. They also let us order plain udon for the kids. Their udon broth is amazing.
We also like their Hamachi Kama, Salmon Kama.
Recommended dishes:
Mirugai Nigiri
Amaebi Nigiri
Tamako sushi
Fresh Raw Oyster (depends on season)
Udon (plain udon or the tempura udon)
Salmon Kama
Food: 3 stars
Service: 3 stars
Value: 2.5 stars
I don't think this place deserve 4 stars. The food is really an average. We ordered a large sashmi with hamachi and salmon. $18.95 for a total of 12 pieces of sashimi was not bad. The cut was thick and big too. But the hamachi didn't taste very fresh. It was a little hard, felt like it's been storage a couple days and no taste at all. We also tried the Lam toll $9.5. Nothing special! Finally we tried the grilled hamachi kama, which was on the special menu on the wall. Very disappointed because I expected a kama, not a fillet. They totally used the wrong part of the fish.
Overall it is just a very average Japanese restaurant, nothing outstanding enough to make me go back again.
Got to update with a complaint. Went there a few times this month and they're sushi pieces are now miniature. I'm not saying small, but miniature. Maybe they're trying to save money, but I won't be going there if I'm paying 20 bucks for a sushi dinner and the pieces look like they're for a bird. Don't know what happened, but my previous 'best sushi in fremont' label for this place is definitely no longer valid!
