I wasn't expecting very much from this hole-in-the-wall looking Chinese place, but it exceeded my expectations. The veggies were fresh and the food was flavorful. Portions were huge and 1 entree is probably good enough for 3 meals!
They also have a lot of vegetarian options and service is quick. -

Average Chinese food - easy to get to and cheap considering the area it is in.

I was not impressed with the sesame chicken I ordered at Yu Shan. Sesame chicken is fried, unhealthy, and has a sugary sauce, which should be a plate that is good no matter where it is from.
Yu Shan gave me small portions and sub-par food at an average price. I will not be back. -

one of my co-workers raved about it, but feh. They get a thumbs up for giving the option of making your dish healthier (steamed, without oil, etc) and for the quick delivery to my office last night when I was hungry, but the taste was mediocre at best and thus 2 stars. I tried the hot and sour soup (very spicy), shrimp in lobster sauce, and the orange chicken.
Still in search of really good Chinese food in Chicago. NY, you spoiled me! -

The decor is minimal to say the least but the food here is amazing and its extremely affordable. To find a authentic chinese place outside of chinatown is great. i meant they have old chinese guys cooking that's when you know it's good.
I've had probably a half a dozen things on that menu and they were al great!! YUM YUM in my tummy -

Super fast delivery for those of you who find yourselves starving on short notice. The food is just mediocre. Think salty thick sauces. Lackluster soups.
The food arrives piping hot and in a short amount of time. Good for hangover recovery! -

Pretty small menu for a Chinese restaurant which makes room for a fair selection of American items such as corn-on-the-cob on the side if you have a desire to get that and they'll give you a plate for any food you want to go which is nice.
The food is okay. There's better Chinese food out there but you could do much worse in the area. -

I've gotten delivery from here twice. The first time it was decent. We only really ordered appetizers that time. Pot stickers, chicken fried rice and won ton soup. All were of decent quality. The second time, my friend and I ordered the sesame chicken and my friend got some other chicken dish. They were both kind of gross. Now, I know the breaded sesame chicken is not necessarily good for you, but I have never seen it any other way. The sauce it was floating in really didn't taste like anything either. I would probably try someplace else before trying this one again.
I wouldn't try to eat in here either, it looks like they only have one table. -

Their steamed pot stickers are some of the best I've ever had. Moist, large and tasty. The crab rangoon is good but not the best.
Unfortunately I also tried the sesame chicken and chicken lo mein. Neither was appealing to me and I ended up tossing half of the entree.
If you're in the area I would recommend giving their appetizers a shot. -

Yu Shan. I Shan. We all Shan for Yu Shan!!
Here's the skinny, kids. Fast delivery. Inexpensive. THE BEST Lemon Chicken this side of the Mississippi. What's the secret? They figured out the seemingly obvious trick of keeping the chicken separate from the sauce so it doesn't get soggy. Eureka! I went vegetarian a while ago so now I just enjoy the smell. The veggie dishes are good- not great- and that's coming from a picky lady. I think from looking at other reviews that you are going to have to find the right dish here. If you heart lemon chicken then you will heart Yu Shan. xoxo -

It's an OK lunch alternative... cheap with large portions. Food is HOTTT when it arrives. Nothing to write home about, but good Chinese options. The egg rolls are not crispy... if that's what you like -- while the fried wontons are quite flaky.
As mentioned by another Yelper, they do offer a selection of American food and my co-workers who've ordered it say it's quite delicious.
We usually order delivery and it arrives pretty quickly. Word of warning, though --- if you order for more the 5 people it will take LONGER and you need to CHECK that all your food arrives before the delivery guy leaves. The phone order girls are not that fantastic and if you have special requests you need to make them repeat your order to you before hanging up. -

Yu Shan is just a couple blocks from my office. Working just off Michgan Avenue, I feel that the alternatives are rather limited. There's a glut of pricey restaurants and an equal amount of crappy fast food chains. There isn't much middle ground.
Yun Shan, while not the most exquisite Chinese food I've ever eaten, is not half bad. The ingredients seem fresh, the meats are of decent quality and the price is right (especially for the area).
They have some pretty decent lunch specials that are tasty and of excellent portion. I also like that I always phone in my order and they are usually just wrapping it up when I arrive.
There really aren't any other Chinese restaurants in the immediate area (there are quite a few Thai and Japanese places, but not Chinese). It's a good change of pace when you are tired of brown-bagging it.
The restaurant does have a few small tables, but it'e very cramped and the ambience is nothing special. It's definitely a take-out place and caters to office worked and people who live in the surrouding high-rise bulidings.
Yu Shan is certainly not worth a special trip, but if you live and/or work in the area, it's not bad for an occasional hot lunch. -

Ordered Cashew Chicken, delivered. The person on the phone and delivery guy were very nice, even if he had trouble discerning south Dearborn from north.
The Cashew Chicken was tasty, but only had a few cashews. Not a bad choice, but not exceptional either. -

Since I was in desperate need of some Chinese and Yang's did me dirty I thought I would get on a mission to find some good Chinese food. I decided I would go to http://grubhub.com to order. After my look through of reviews I landed on Yu Shan.
Verdict....
Food was hot!
Delivery was quick!
Mongolian Beef was spicy and good despite a overkill of onions
Egg Rolls - small but still hit the spot!
Crab Rangoon - had a funny taste to it and it wasn't crab!
Free Chicken wings with 20.00 or more...they tasted like they had been fried and then re fried again after they sat for a while
Pitfall- Fortune Cookies are 1.25 a order..whats up with that I thought that was always free?
Overall I would order again -

Not really 'authentic' but decent spot in the middle of River North's otherwise fancy and thematic finds. Have only ordered delivery from here, as the establishment doesn't look too inviting at least from the outside. What's good though is they are very flexible with the menu - i.e. you can request all dishes to be made with no oil, no sugar, etc. Still on the hunt for good Asian eats downtown, this is one of the better ones.

This is my favorite Chinese delivery in the city. My family has been ordering from here for at least 15yrs or so since whenever they opened. Things to order:
The fried rice (you can also ask to combine the veggie fried rice with the beef or chicken)
Pepper steak
Mongolian beef
Garlic chicken
Beef w/broccoli
Burgers and fries are good, too!
I'm not a big fan of sweet and sour chicken but I've heard theirs is pretty good.
You won't be disappointed. Their delivery is really fast too. They always say 45 but I usually receive my order in 30min. No MSG, dishes are made to order and they use quality ingredients which you don't always find from an average Chinese food takeout joint. -

The food is great...I ordered the General Tso's and it was perfect, could tell the chicken was fresh...it had no fat at all. Plus they had a coupon on the site.
I had delivery.
The next day I reheated it, it was okay. Way better when it was fresh. -

Like Ginza, Yu Shan is a dumpy looking Chinese restaurant. It's a nice respite from the pricey yuppie restaurants in the area. However, the prices don't reflect it's unpretentious demeanor. Location does not justify price without the quality...

New to Chicago, and have tried several quick Chinese foods in the area. The first time I ordered from Yu Shan I thought it was ok - the second time it was absolutely HORRIBLE. The dumplings have SO much dough on them they were almost impossible to eat. The singapore noodles had about 1000 fishy gross shrimp in it (quantity does not make up for the nastiness here.) I can't remember which chicken dish I ordered, only that it was gross. I will not order from here again. However, if anyone has a recommendation of where to order Chinese delivery in the neighborhood, I would greatly appreciate it!

Of course you will taste better Chinese food. BUT, Yu Shan is a little oasis in the midst of River North since it is the only quick serve and inexpensive Chinese food in the area. They have your typical Ameri-Chinese food selection. They have a couple of ratty tables and chairs but I recommend you get your food to go.

Nothing special. Pretty pricey and mediocre quality. On the plus side it does have an open kitchen.

Total hole in the wall...but that's what delivery is for, right? Plus, if you want better ambience, check out Yu Choy just a few blocks up the street. It's their sister restaurant. Yu Shan has THE best Empress Chicken. I have been ordering from here for years and I think it's delicious.

This is by far the WORST Chinese food I have every eaten ANYWHERE in my entire life. Nothing was fresh. Chicken in the Chicken Chow Mein was soaking in sauce probably for days and it was mushy and disgusting. The Moo Shu had a horrible odor and while I wouldn't taste it, someone else in my party did and had to throw it away as it was totally inedible! The BB! Roast Pork was sitting in a sweet red liquid that had coated the pork and made it inedible. The BBQ Ribs were equally repulsive. Shrimp in Lobster sauce was only fair at best and the Mongolian Beef rated a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best. Even the eggrolls were barely fair! I will NEVER order take out from this place again and would strongly recommend AGAINST anyone ordering from here and throwing out good money for HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE FOOD! WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER....ANYWHERE!!!!

Good, decent, fast-food Chinese food; I heard the place is nasty to go to, kinda like Peppers, but never had a stray hair or bug in my food.
Delivery is excellent as they come in in decent time, and they can never get mad - I once gave them a different address by mistake, but I told them I was incorrect and gave them the correct address; the guy was not too pissed but I gave him another $10 over the normal tip to make him happier.
Their orange chicken is actually spicy when most other places is just orange sweet, maybe. Another good dish is their sweet & sour whatever - they put the deep fat fried pork/chicken/beef in one container, and the sweet and sour sauce with veggies and pineapple in another; a nice touch in my book.
Its no PF Chang's, but still very respectable. -

Boo.
I ordered General Tsao's Chicken... I mean General Tsao's bowl of gravy and bell peppers with a hint of dishsoap. For the price and the area, just make the trek down to Joy Yee's. For the same price, you'll get at least a bowl of soup and an enormous plate of food--their General Tsao's Chicken has actual chicken in it!. Did I mention Yu Shan's General Tsao's Chicken wasn't even made with fried nuggets? Ripoff. -

This place is only good in a pinch. I would not advise eating here unless you are in the area and you cannot do without a feed of some Chinese grub. It is a pity, really, as the staff is rather nice.
