You's has very flavorful and fresh dim sum. None of the signs are in english and the workers don't really speak much english either so be ready to smile, point and nod. I went for lunch and tried the shrimp har gow, pot stickers, siu mai and steamed pork bun. The har gow which were made with nice sized fresh shrimp, not the frozen then thawed shrimp you generally encounter, were the highlight of the meal. The lady also slipped a couple extra pieces in my order which was a nice surprise. Overall You's is good dim sum and a great $5 lunch!

Um I never ate here but I went to another restaurant down the block at night with my boyfriend and we passed by this place and something in the window moved that caught our attention. We decided to look in and saw two HUGE FAT RATS running around!! uh.. yeah so after that I don't think I'll ever eat there..

Ok, here's another place I've walked by a million times without giving it a thought. Thanks to a nice lady I met on the bus, she brought my attention to the place as a very good inexpensive joint for an alternative quick lunch. Yes sireee... she was very correct. Stopping in on a day off and wanting to eat before going to my fave place and proving I'm a Yelper in good standing I'd decided to give it a try.

Really good looking pork buns, (toasted) and chicken teased and flaunted themselves before me... as well as the various artifacts that make up a classic dim-sum lunch. Settling on pot stickers, a metal bowl of bok choy and mystery meat and rice I also grabbed a lechee drink to wet it all down with. Not only was I surprised to see a bowl of very good seaweed soup, or something similar included but you could have knocked me over with a feather upon discovering the whole shebang was just five bucks. Whew!

After sitting, I noticed the place was very simple. Mostly formica and tile but very clean and well maintained. Pot stickers were toasted perfectly and truly tasty with just the right amount of spices and chomp to the crusts. The bowl with the mystery meat turned out to be seasoned pork ribs and some really good rice that reminded me of the brown rice I cooked when I had a rice cooker. Soup? Just a good addition to an already complete meal. I don't think MSG is included as I'm not woozie.

I'd like to give this place a 5 star review, but its just a humble Chinese fast lunch stop. They don't do anything wrong and the food is good. Nothing stellar but just a good and quick fix for your hunger while on the go. Yes, I'll be back. I'd also like to meet the nice lady on the bus again... she's the only female within my age range I've thought of as interesting in quite a few years.

Now, will somebody please let me know if one is supposed to tip in a place like this???

That one lady that sits closest to the window is still there, and she still gives me extra food on my orders.

I haven't been buying lunch in Chinatown for quite some time now, but I found myself here on Monday afternoon.  The lunch time crowd had disappeared already around 2 PM so I walked in and asked the lady for 2 steamed rice noodle rolls and 6 shrimp har gows (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).

When I returned to work and opened up the plastic container I found 3 steamed rice noodle rolls and 7 shrimp har gows.  The har gows have about three small shrimps in each with a tiny bit of filler.  I had one plus two rice noodle rolls with bits of dried shrimp and green onion and that filled me up.  That means I can have a little dim sum in the morning also.  Not too bad for $4.20.

It's good if you are on the go.  If not, there are seats.
Cheap and the food is good for the price.
Aggressive, Aggressive, Aggressive - words to live by while ordering or you'll be there 4-Eva!
All round most everything is decent there.

If you are looking for Man Tao though go to Louis' across Broadway eastside of Stockton.

Absolutely the best baked Char Siu Bao I've ever had!  How do you not find cheap, delicious dim sum in San Francisco?  I think this place is one of the better ones.  I like the selection of dim sum better at some of the places in the Richmond and Sunset Districts.  Their pork buns, however, are amazing!  You won't find a place that makes these tasty buns better than here.  Trust me!

You HAVE to be a ruthless customer here. I remember one time I was literally standing there for ten minutes trying to get the cashiers attention. When she finally saw me, an old lady cut RIGHT in front and pushed me out the way and took MY turn!!!!!!!!! Then the next few times, I had to act like an old lady too in order to get my order through. Besides the hustling here, their dim sum is quite good. I love their Har Gows(shrimp dumplings) and their beef siu myes. I normally don't order fried things from take out places because they're always cold and greasy. Their steamed taro dumpling is good too. Only if you like taro and grounded pork. So remember, next time when its crowded, PUSH to get your way through... I'm serious.

A true hole in the wall dining experience. Don't expect great service or aesthetically pleasing food presentation. Don't even expect it to be served on a plate. Don't expect your English to get you far. Just point to what you see and like and nod. Can you even see your dim sum being made in the back. Five dollars will fill you up.

You's Dim Sum offers the best value for your money in Chinatown (that's saying alot!)  if you like Dim Sum and lots of it.  It's also relatively close to Downtown SF which means less of a hassle making your way through the daily crowds in Chinatown.

Everyone I know loves their baked BBQ buns (about 80 cents) and they are big enough for a small lunch. Other things I enjoy are their plump shrimp dumplings and chive dumplings which are filled with sprouts, chives, shrimp, pork, and other yummy things.  The ladies behind the counter are efficient and fast,  you will walk out of the store in less than 5 minutes with a pink box of hot steaming goodies all for about 10 dollars which *depending* on how hungry you are will last between two or three days.  You can freeze the BBQ buns and they taste fresh when you microwave them.

You's Dim Sum provide the basics for a more than reasonable price and fast service, I'll come here anytime for Chinese fast food when the occassion calls for it.  This is a great place to pick up some goodies when visiting friends or relatives for a nice surprise. : )

OK, so usually I don't mind dirty food. While in Philadelphia, I eat dirty food from dirty food carts all the time. But this place is DANGEROUSLY DISGUSTING.

We're not sure whether they were lacking running water the day we went, or what, but the plates the waiter used to put my friend's spare ribs on were not even CLOSE to clean. It's like they literally took the plate that someone just ate off and didn't clean it at all, and gave it to the next person. There were bits of food all over it (not just food, CHUNKS of rice and meat) from the last customer to eat off the plate.

Personally, I'm glad they didn't give us plates to eat OUR dim sum, just a piece of plastic wrap and plastic fork on a dirty tray....

As far as the food goes, it was alright. I spent the rest of the day worrying I'd get sick....

It was pretty cheap, though.

When I'm in Chinatown, I always hit this place up for some quick and cheap dim sum. That being said, the food isn't exactly top quality. Their steamed buns are usually really dry and the meat or sweet fillings inside are definitely not the best that I've tasted.  The good thing is that they have a ton of different kinds, from chicken and vegetable to lotus paste buns, plus you don't have to order it in plates so you can have as many as you want, from 1 to whatever. It's super cheap and you can easily get completely full for under $5. Aside from dim sum, they also have ready made stir fry Chinese food and Zongzi. My boyfriend loves to get their already frozen zongzi to take home and stick in the freezer so that he can take it out for a quick dinner. The ladies that work there are actually really nice and when you order a lot they always slip in extra things. I think they feel bad for my bf when he orders 10 zongzi because he can't cook so they just give him some dim sum too, even if he doesn't order it. If you like quick and cheap dim sum, this is definitely your place.

Omigod. Food here is so freaking dirt cheap!!! I LOVE the BBQ pork buns here... (60 cents!) When I lived in San Diego, I'd fly or drive back up and bring these babies back down... and horde them in the freezer until they were all eaten up within a week. Thankfully.... I'm glad to be back in the bay area... and so much closer to my juicy fluffy BBQ Pork bun... The potstickers were mediocre... they were little oily grease bombs. I also like their plain coconut buns.... fluffy with a touch of coconut cream! MMmmmmmmmm.....Their dim sum are gargantuan... like mutant sized!

I was going to give them 4 stars... but docked for for the disgusting bathroom. Seriously. It REEKED. If you can't even sprinkle some Comet or pour some bleach on the bathroom that everyone uses (including employees) I'm slightly worried on how many health codes they're violating in the back kitchen... in the meantime... I'll continue eating everything that gets a good steaming or a good frying.

Hard to beat for the price.  I load up here when I'm in the city.  The Char Sui Baos are big, tasty and meaty.  The shark fin dumplings are delicious.  Probably my fav is the Lo Mei Bao.  (It's sticky rice wrapped in a thin won ton skin).  I don't the fried dim sum, since they don't ride well.  But when I eat in, I'll get the Ham Soy Guk and the Gai Choi.

I really do like an old chinese lady who my and my friends lovingly call the Dim Sum Nazi.  Although she has a somewhat dour look on her face, she's really kind of sweet, (in a dragon lady sort of way).  I miss her....

OK, so this is where my sister likes to go when she visits me.  I have to admit the food is pretty good.  But, I hate being yelled at and given the stink eye by some little, old Chinese ladies.  I also hate having to eat off of a nasty tray with a piece of plastic on top and with one single napkin to boot.  Tell me why can't these hole in the wall Chinese restaurants just give a plate and a couple of napkins?  But, I go and I eat there because that is what my sister likes and the food is good and cheap - I will just have to remember to bring my hand sanitizer and a paper plate next time ;-)

This is our Sunday Dim Sum hangout! The prices are super cheap! The amount of food you get is amazing! I have to admit the restaurant very very casual but it all makes up for itself for the quality of the food and the price. Our favorites are the shrimp har gao and the shu mai. All I can say is this is one of the best damn Dim Sum places in the Bay!

Out Of all the dim sum places that... I have been to in the San Francisco Chinatown Area... You's Dim Sum is a pretty good place to buy your dim sum items as a snack or to take it to go on a road trip... I have been here many many times to buy my favorite dim sum items... Although like on the other yelp reviewers from some of the other people who had yelped about You's Dim Sum and had this to say about You's Dim Sum it does get really crowded at tmes and also some of the people would push their way in or cut in line... Which is true and it does happen alot especially when the time clock strikes at 12:00 p.m. lunch time!!! Most of the times when... I usally come to this place and if... I see You's Dim Sum really packed with alot of people like a can of sardines... I would come back at a different time when it is not so crowded... My most favorite item at this You's Dim Sum besides the dim sums that they have my other choice of this place would be The Chicken Rice Bowl!!!

How can you not like going a place that screams health code violations and shouldn't even be open? Well, a lot of people hate going to places like this...But I guess it's a Chinese thing because we love going to places that are crowded and full of people and could care less about the floors...Well, not all the time. You's is one of those times.

I love the place for mainly a couple things. The extra large pot stickers that are crunchy if you catch them on a good day, the beef siu mai that are also on the big side, and the prices. Not the cheapest but still great prices for the food you order.

And I am such a glutton for punishment. There's this old lady that always screams at me. It's been like that for more than a couple of years now. Everytime I walk in she would scream at me when I stand up at the metal counter, always calling me goddamn fat ass in chinese. Which is fine by me since I am kinda on the large side. But she always smiles when she does that so I know she means well. A nice lady all in all. Ahhhh...I'm pretty sure she will still call me that even if I slim down...

the baked Char Siew Bao is not filled up inside and most of it is fat :( and the skin for the other dumplings are WAY too thick! and i hate the fact that i need to eat off a nasty tray sitting next to a nasty toilet with a food tong as key ring.. yes a whole food tong...

on the other hand.. the ladies are nice to me, contrary to other reviews.. maybe it's coz i come in a business suit and i speak cantonese.. i wouldn't come back again though... sorry

I dropped by here based on the good reviews on Yelp.  Was looking to get my little hands on their infamous baked bbq pork buns.  One reviewer said this store is across the street from Louie's Dim Sum. It's actually across the street from Gold Mountain.  After slowly walking along Stockton and dodging little ol ladies in their walkers or rolling packbacks, I couldn't find it.  I finally walked to the end of Stockton/Broadway and looked down, and lo and behold, there they were!

Dim sum ranges from 3 to $1.40 (for non seafood) and 3 for $1.50 (for stuff with shrimp like har gow).  The baked bbq pork buns were about 80 cents each.

I didn't find the ladies behind the counter to be rude or brusque.  They were actually very nice to me.  Maybe because I can read and speak in Chinese?  I bought 6 buns (don't want to commit to a dozen if it ain't good), 6 potstickers and 3 egg rolls.

Even though the baked pork buns were expensive, they were really heavy.  So heavy that by the time I got home, my arm ached from lugging that big pastry box around.

The pork buns are more bang for the buck.  You can actually split it in half and eat it in two meals (this comes down to 40 cents per meal!).  DH said this was the best pork buns he's ever had.  Pork is lean and very tasty.

Egg rolls are good.  They look like what egg rolls should look like (unlike Good Luck dim sum's which now resembles lumpia more than egg rolls).  The egg roll is filled with napa cabbage and bits of pork.

Potstickers are yummy too.  They make their own skin so it's much better than store bought skin.  Filling is lean pork w/ napa cabbage (not the typical daikon that other stores use).

I didn't eat in but upon a cursory glance at the sit down tables, it looked clean.  Not as grungy as everyone else was saying.

Definitely worth the trip.  This is a great dim sum take out place!  A bit more pricier than Good Mong Kok but oh so good!

Talk about an authentic Chinatown experience! The menu is entirely in Chinese so know what you want before you go! (The Yelp recommendations below saved us!) We had the Char Siu Bao (pork buns), shumai (beef and shrimp), and Shrimp dumplings. All were delicious. We had quite literally a heaping tray of dim sum for $7.00! Definitely worth braving ordering from the snarky women that serve! It definitely isn't as dirty as most people say it is. Take out is always an option if you think it's that bad. Definitely recommend it!

Cheap.
Barely hygenic (and I use the term very loosely)
Yummylicious

All these describe You's. There's not much to say that hasn't been covered by the other Yelps, so instead, I'll divulge the unauthroized secrets of how to maximize your experience at You's.

1) Go with an asian front man (or woman). Come to think of it, I'm chinese, and they still ignore me 50% of the time. uh... Moving on...

2) Don't get your own napkins. The napkins are located right next to the cash registers. I wonder why they get jumpy when you try to get the napkins yourself.

3) Know the difference between Chinese and Mandarin and Cantonese. The staff at You's speak Cantonese. Learn the appropriate key phrases for "thank you" and "how are you" at the very least. A language guide is beyond the scope of this article. Google it or something.

4) Order in cantonese. It gets you that certain respect. It's very subtle, barely a flash in the eye. Conversely speaking, ordering in Mandarin loses cool points.

5) Or better yet, learn to flirt in cantonese. I've gotten free samplings and extra food by flirting shamelessly with the not-so-hot ladies behind the counter. I have no self respect, but I GET FREE FOOD!

Well, there you have it. Five simple ways to rock your next meal at You's. You can thank me later.

Like everyone said...it's a mess in there, the ladies are ambivalent if not outright rude, and it's a PITA to park and get to.

But the food...oh man...the FOOD!  Their baked char siu baos are THE best, hands down.  Other take out dim sums (either in Chinatown or on Clement) may be "almost" as good, but really...nothing is better.  The meat is not fatty, the sauce is not overly sweet, and there is more filling than there is dough.  When we're visiting from SoCal, we usually buy 12-16 to bring back home and shove in the freezer.  The white see thru dimsum with the chives are great, as was the har gow, siu mai, and others.

One item we wern't too happy with on the last trip was the pot stickers.  We thought they were too doughy, with little meat.

Oh and if you're going for the baked char siu bao, make sure you get there before 2:00.  We made the mistake of going there late and surprise...none left.  We had to go to one of the other places in Chinatown (can't remember the place), but while it was a solid "not bad", it was no where near the ones at You's.

You's may not pass with the Board of Health, but their Pork Buns get an A with me.  I went there after reading several Yelp reviews and it was really good.  The ladies are not as mean as everyone makes them out to be.  Hands down a great place to go for dim sum and the price makes them taste even more delicious!  I got a bag with 3 shui mai, 3 potstickers, 3 mystery (I didn't know what they contained) dumplings and one beautiful Pork Bao for $5.65.   That 's a dirty bargain if I ever saw one.  Definitely a good place to go if you need a quick, cheap bite.  Ordering to-go is key.

I come here all the time because its on my way to work, near the 1 bus line, and its cheap! But then again, what isn't cheap in Chinatown?

Coworkers and I typically get the pork buns and xiu mai.  The pork buns are tasty enough and they offer both steamed and baked ones for 60 cents each.  Personally, I think the xiu mai are too salty ( but they're def a good deal as they seem to be on steroids).  I also love to get the ma la gao (the brown cake), bai tang gao (white sugar cake?), and luo buo gao.

You know when you go to Chinatown and try to order something from a place like this, you gotta yell louder than that short lady next to you yelling in Cantonese.  I try to fit in and yell loudly and say my orders quickly.  Since the workers move quickly I can barely keep my eyes up with their hands, sometimes I end up with more than I want.  Its happened to me a couple of times when I ask for one piece of cake and they give me three.  Good thing about that is its only $1 or so more. Bad thing is..I eat 3x what I order in one sitting.

This place is convenient with good prices and the ladies behind the counter are very nice, but I'm also pretty sure I get a mini stomachache after most visits here.

Its dirty and dated but they make awesome dim sum. I always get mine to go (I work close by) so I haven't enjoyed the *pleasure* of dining in. But the dumplings are warm and crispy with a light ginger aroma floating out of them in curls when you bite into them and the Bbq pork buns are sweet, sticky and fluffy. The little old ladies always give me something new to try while I am standing there - so I can't be mad at them!

It's dirty, the ladies are mean, and sometimes they charge you a little more than what it should be or I get short changed. But it's super CHEAP!!!!

I've been coming here for a LONG time. Many years now. Almost everything is 3 for $1.20 and it tastes good. While I've never been so lucky as another Yelper who got "extra" pieces, I still like this place.

I usually get the bbq pork bun, har gow, seu mei (spelling?), crispy taro root, radish cake, egg rolls, I forget what else. But I've never once had anything bad tasting or any "hidden surprises".

I don't suggest eating here as other reviewers have mentioned in their opinions/experiences.

"What you want?!"

This is how I'm always addressed by the impishly mean lady behind the counter at You's.  She has a sour, scrunched-up face and I used to think that she just didn't like me, but I've noticed that's how she greets *all* of the non-Cantonese-speaking customers, so that made me feel a little better :)

I usually just get the shrimp (har-gow) dumplings and some congee porridge (theirs is actually really hearty and filling, not watery at all).  They also have good egg-pancake things and chive dumplings.

FYI: This place is FILTHY.  It's effin' delicious, which is why I go, but it's filthy, which is why I get my food "to go".  I've seen them collect the trays that people have been eating off of, and *they don't always wash/rinse them off!*...hellamuthafuckingross!

get it to go.

3.5 stars - great price performance.  Ok, price is as expected in Chinatown as most similar places charge alike but their overall quality is better than most.   And please, if you are too "prissy" then this place (or most other Chinatown joints) ain't for you so get over "cleanliness and service" - you are getting a full order for 1/3 to 1/2 the price!

Back to the food - yes, their baked BBQ pork buns are the bomb!  It is packed and weights a good 1/2 pound, I swear!  It is definitely plenty for lunch.

Other goodies we have tried:
shrimp dumpling - not bad
beef siu mai - i like it, only joints like this have beef siu mai
pork siu mai - not bad her, better than most places
leek/shrimp dumpling - tasty
pea shoot dumpling - not bad
corn dumpling - not bad
spinach dumpling - not bad
sticky rice bun - tasty, not too many places has this - it's basicaly sticky rice in a very thin wrapper - if you like sticky rice, try it!
shark fin dumpling - no shark fin, of course!  it's like other pork dumplings, can skip
chiu chow dumpling - not bad, this is another special one that is not offered everywhere - besides the ground pork, the special ingredients are roasted peanuts and preserved radish
white sugar pastry - too doughy

Update: I went for take out the other day and the ladies gave me extra har gow as well as extra chive dumplings. Very nice of them! Not sure why, but it made me happy.

As others have said, if you are willing to overlook the fact that it probably isn't the cleanest place in the world, you'll probably enjoy it if you like dim sum. Everything is fresh and that's what counts. I'm actually too scared to know what type of health department score this place has so for now, I'll just keep living in denial!

Great place for cheap dim sum! Recommended.

Me: I'm hungry for some dim sum, but I don't want to go to Yank Sing or Tong Kiang.

Stomach:  Feed me dim sum or I will make you pay.

Me: How about You's on Broadway?

Stomach:  Get your ass moving to North Beach before I make you keel over from hunger.

Me:  I only have $5 in my wallet.

Stomach: What?  You're still here?   What the f**k?

Me: I can order 3 of those shrimp things, 3 of those beef things, 3 of those scallop things, 3 of those egg things, and steamed pork bun for $5, what a bargain.

Stomach:  I don't care if you feed me 3 day old bagels, it's 1:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon and I'm starving.  I swear to god if you don't drive to Broadway I'll make you puke green bile for days.

My best friend's family turned me on to this place, they have the best Dim Sum to go in the city, and super cheap too!  I love the shrimp dumplies so, so much!  If I'm ever in the city, I make it a point to come here to get to stuff to go.

I agree with the other reviewers, don't bother eating your stuff here, it is freaking gross in there!  But hey, what did you expect from Chinatown?  Oh yeah and it helps if you go with somebody that speaks Chinese, but pointing at what you want seems to work just as well.

They have very tasty pork buns, pork & beef dumplings, thousand year old jook, and pot stickers!!

The Shrimp dumlings are just ok! I would order it just because I'm too lazy to head over to another dim sumplace in chinatown.

The ladies that work there are sweet! They are to the point, what do you want, young lady?? :-)

Filthy place with great friggin' dim sum! Five dollars with get you filthy-full including hot tea or sugar-cane drink. Everything is very tasty here. Be aggressive when you order, or one will never be served. Don't be shocked when they serve the food on a piece of thick saran wrap on a crusty tray. There was a time (ten years ago) when their food was three items for a dollar and that's the only phrase the ladies behind the counter knew. Don't arrive too late in the afternoon when all the good stuff is gone!
