I've been coming to Your Choice for years! I've always come here for quick, cheap, take out thai. It's definitely not the best, but it's always pretty good. Be sure to order the crab rangoon!
But watch those doors... they're a bit confusing :)
I will admit we have passed by this place many times and really wasn't interested in dining here only because of the name. It gave the impression of a fast food joint. I shamefully admit I was wrong! On a whim we decided to eat here for lunch. Surprisingly the place is very nice, somewhat small but not so small you feel squeezed in. We started with the Crab Rangoon which was excellent, we had the chicken pad Thai and an entree called Hot Plate (menage of different seafood such as squid, crab and shrimp to name a few) Both were very good. Service was a bit slow but not annoying. I recommend this place highly and never again will I judge a place solely on the name.
The reason for the 3 stars as oppose to giving it a 4 was not based on the food, but merely we felt the service in comparison to other Thai restaurants were not as good. Nevertheless I would dine here again without hesitation.
1) The door is very difficult to open
2) The aroma of the place is weird
3) Pad See Ewe was above average
4) Green Curry with Chicken was terrible. It glowed in the dark, strange!
Owners seem like very nice folks, it looked as if grandma was cooking in the kitchen so my expectations were high. Very disappointing! Will not be back!
Server got the check way wrong, it had to be corrected!
First visit would have been a solid 3 stars.
Second visit was definitely worth only one star -- and that star was only earned through the no bullshit customer service.
The moment I walked in the door, the smell turned me off. I remembered this being the case my first visit as well. Its not the smell of food or cleaning products or even a dirty smell. Instead it reminds me almost of incense -- only a little more subtle and a bit powdery. However, whatever it was, it made me lose my appetite.
For the appetizer, I tried a bite of my friend's spring roll and was so turned off by the taste of the sauce on top that I made him move it out of range of my nose. Even smelling it after I'd tasted it was a turn off -- I believe that speaks volumes.
My entree of Pad Thai is where the experience ultimately failed. It wasn't a matter of my particular tastes. No, this was just plain bad. Even my friend tried it and agreed with my assessment that the noodles were rubbery. The sauce was certainly more successful than the appetizer but nothing particularly notable. The chicken tasted off, which was the clincher in my returning the entree to the kitchen. Totally turned off, I had no intent of them remaking my meal.
The waitress did not notice me set my full plate of food to the side. However, when I told her I didn't like it, she cut to the chase and said "so you don't want to pay for it, right?" In the words of Sarah Palin... "you betcha!"
What? I haven't reviewed this place? Ah, bad luck for you, Your Choice. I've eaten lunch here several times but today's visit stands out.
I've never had a problem with their food, but today they served my friend and coworker the most wretched pad thai. The noodles were rubbery and the chicken was kind of like hard, chewy styrafoam. The Vietnamese spring rolls were okay but the brown sauce with which they were served was awful. I cannot describe the flavor...it was sort of like musty socks and dogfood and peanuts (which was expected).
I got the crazy spaghetti with tofu, which was decent, probably a B but too greasy. I've had other dishes and never a bad experience, but haven't visited in over a year. Perhaps something has changed.
My friend ate only a few bites of the pad thai, and when she complained, the server immediately and graciously agreed to take it off our bill.
They've raised prices since my last visit, which isn't unusual, but their menu conspicuously lacks a set of lunch specials. If they're going to serve crappy food, they should bundle it up more cheaply.
They have the best Crab Rangoon ever! I go here for lunch ever so often with the work crew. The red and green curry is very good. Not too thick, just right. I would highly reccomend the beef with the spicy basil leaves.
At every table they have a bunch of condiments, for some reasont he crushed pepper flakes taste awesome when sprinkled over steamed rice. I suspect they add some flavor enhancer, they claim it is just pepper flakes. Maybe it is just me, I Love the food there. Even the water tastes fantastic!
I equate "your choice Thai cuisine" as a solid place to go for lunch. Service is fast, friendly and efficient. Food is good, freshly prepared and with no surprise. Consistency is what have made me go back over the years when I crave Thai food and I'm not looking for anything fancy.
This is one of my favorite thai places. Their food has just the right amount of flavor and you get to decide how spicy you want it. Just a warning though, it's safer to go more mild and add your own hot sauce later. I love spicy food so I got it the hottest one time and I struggled big time. I think I drank almost a gallon of water by myself during that meal!
The only food related complaint I have is that sometimes their pad thai noodles are too chewy. One time it was so bad that I felt like I was trying to chew through rubber bands!
There's always ample parking, and if you're full afterwards and want to walk around a little, there's trader joe's right next door and starbucks across the parking lot.
I have been eating Your Choice about once every other month for 16 years. (Your choice trivia: it started in the strip mall across the street that was torn down last year for a newer strip mall with a bank (we needed another bank) The original was a converted hot dog joint with those hard red curved booths. It was great.)
4 out of 5 meals are take out. I had eat in just the other night.
Yes, it is a sparse, small room, the server may not speak much if any English, the chairs can be a little uncomfortable and yes if there is a little wind the doors weigh 100 lbs.
I can easily overlook the above and enjoy a good meal. The food is five stars. Small room, yes but lots of windows to people watch. With the server, they know all the items by number and know "just a little hot, please" as you put your thumb and index finger together showing a small opening. Be sure to be clear with your drink order (no numbers). I love that they bring an ice cold beer fast, with a CHILLED MUG, and always with a smile. Heavy door: What better way to do my Scout "Good turn Daily" by opening the door for someone, always sure to generate another smile.
Kids like the skewered chicken with the peanut sauce. I like BBQ pork rice, Pad Thai w/ shrimp, Pot stickers and the Spicey Basil Duck (Duck may not be on the menu, they run it as a special all the time??) and the Broccoli Delight w/ chicken, beef or shrimp (Delight has other veggies in addition to broccoli
The reviewer that said it can be chilly inside in the winter was right so be warned. I second the reviewer that said error on the side of mild, you can always add heat. Whether you eat in or take out, you should not be disappointed.
The place itself leaves something to be desired, but if you aren't really a stickler on ambiance then get your tuchus over here!
Now I should start off by warning you that I am not the Thai enthusiast. The food is amazing, and "really food". There is no taste of mass production, you can actually tell that they use real ingredients and cook at this place, which is often lacking at other similar establishments. The flavors are simple but authentic, and it is truly a great joy to eat here. I recommend the panang curry, and the glass noodle salad. It's out of this world, but you might need a little Orbitz action afterwords. Definitely not a first date type o' meal if you are a stickler on breath. But if you don't care, then it is a GREAT place to have a little asian soul food.
Yum.
I only order Your Choice as TAKE-OUT and the only items I have ordered have been appetizers and CHICKEN dishes. The Chicken is pristine. I have never experienced a "mystery chicken part" in my food. I usually get the Cashew Chicken and it's fantastic. I ask for it "1-star spicy" and it's just mildly hot (just for a gauge). I'll also ask for extra broccoli (which costs a bit extra). Then I skip the rice and get some frozen brown rice from TRADER JOE'S next door (3 minutes in the microwave - it's great!). A bit healthier than white rice and the Cashew Chicken makes 2 meals. A great (healthy?) bargain! Mmmm!
(And you'll have to pull hard on the front door - some kind of vacuum/pressure thing going on in that place.)
My fave thai place up by work! Great food!! They tend to get busy around lunch time so if you get there much past noon, you might be there awhile. My fave is the pad thai. Great thai iced tea too.
When we lived in California we were lucky enough to have the most amazing Thai restaurant a few blocks from our house. We moved to the Northwest burbs two years ago and wanted to cry every time we would try a new Thai place. That is until tonight.
After reading the reviews here we headed up to Glenview to check this place out. It was EXCELLENT! I had the Pad Thai with Tofu and it was even better than my California favorite. The tofu was cooked perfectly. Hubby had the Pa'Nang(spelling?) curry and it was soooooo yummy. We had an order of Crab Rangoon for an appetizer and it was pretty much like any other. Our son had the chicken satay and loved it.
I will definitely be back. As my son said, "Mama, I want to eat here every day!"
Wow, looking at the other reviews I either went here on a bad night or ordered the wrong thing from the menu... I'll have to go back and try the pad thai.
The night I went was particularly cold and, despite the double doors, it was pretty chilly inside as well. It was my first time there so I ordered my standard panang curry with beef, medium spicy. The curry sauce was good but completely mild - no spice at all.
However, the meat was SO bad I strongly considered sending it back (something I never do). It was like they pre-cooked strips of meat without any seasoning and then stirred them in with some curry immediately before serving. The result was tough, dry, flavorless meat that was noticeably cooler than the temperature of the sauce. With it being so cold in the restaurant, my meal quickly cooled to room temperature before I finished half of the bland rubbery mess. At that point I was done and didn't eat any more. Bleah.
One star for my experience and the second star in deference to the other yelpers with the assumption that "Your Choice" was just having an off night.
$25 for lunch... for one. spring rolls rubbery. bamee and bbq pork a portion of noodles my eight year old could finish. very dissatisfied with my local thai restaurant. I will never go back.
I'm downgrading it from 4 to 3.5 stars... We probably wouldn't go here absent the awesome Trader Joe's next door. Not a bad joint if you're expecting something less than the traditional Thai food. The noodles are often overcooked, the soups are too sugary, and the salads aren't prepared with the standard ingredients. Generous portions, though...lots and lots of chicken.
Your choice? You're telling me! I would choose this place over any other restaurant in Glenview. The food is spectacular, not too pricey, and the service is amazing. It's nice inside, even though it looks a little cheesy from the strip mall outsides. The weird thing is the music selection they play which is some sort of radio station, commercials and all. I could do without that. The food, though is amazing and totally worth coming here. Eat the fried cheesecake dessert. Yeah I know it's not Thai and it's probably really horrible for you, but it's so incredible. Your Choice is My Choice too.
My Choice - Your Choice - Everyone's Choice! Definately a hidden gem - not really that noticeable from the outside since it's found in a shopping center, but it's a warm atmosphere inside with authentic Thai cusine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our water glasses were never empty and the food just kept on coming at perfect timing. The portions are huge and definately shareable as family style. The satay is fantastic and you can mix it up - half chicken and half beef; the spring rolls are so fresh. For five people for dinner, soup for five, plus two appetizers and three entrees to share (the lard nar, pad thai and pad see ew is fabulous), the total was only $40. What a steal!
This is sure a hidden gem in Glenview, and the north 'burbs. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere with friendly service. Food is prepared with care, and is delicious. I would suggest getting the spring roll appetizer which is the best I have had, followed by the pad thai which is also the best I have had (first time I tried this dish it was at Your Choice!). Located in a strip mall, it offers the best in casual Thai dining without the huge prices. Go and enjoy!
One of the best Thai Places on the Shore. They have excellent Coconut Curry. The only downfall is they don't deliver.
Excellent choice for Thai food in the northern suburbs. Portions are very generous and they have a wide variety of selections. Curries are especially good here. Atmosphere is non-descript, but that is not the attraction. Prices are very reasonable. We often eat here before shopping at Trader Joe's next door to avoid grocery shopping on an empty stomach.
My favorite Pad Thai ever! Lots of sauce and really great flavor. They have the little tray of sauces that you add to make your own spicyness. One is very unique kind of sweet kind of spicy. They also have some great appetizers. Perfect for lunch if you have to work in the hood or great for dinner if you want to wait out the traffic before heading back to the city.
I think I'd give it really a 3.5. I went here with a friend who just loves the place. I really liked the peanut sauce and the pad thai was pretty good. But I've been here a few times and only liked the pad thai. Maybe I'm not ordering the right thing.
Also, the door set up is just annoying! There's a giant wind tunnel and I feel like I'm going to get caught in it every time. It really slaps shut and then I feel like everyone is looking up at me!
I'd definitely go back for pad thai (and peanut sauce) if I'm in the area for work, but I wouldn't make a long drive there from home.
I'm in between a 3 and a 4 on the place, but with all the crazy 5 star reviews, I thought I'd try to even things out a bit. I went here for lunch with like 8 other coworkers. I was impressed they could pull a table together for all of us, so that's a plus. Their were a lot of novice Thai eaters amongst us, so they got standard sweet and sour chicken, pad thai, or whatever. There food looked good, if a little bland. I got the red curry, my go-to Thai dish. It was large and good, though not as spicy as I would have preferred. The decor is a cross between a family restaurant and a Chinese buffet (there is no buffet, the furniture just reminds me of it). The staff was friendly, and the food was pretty good. I would definitely go here again, though my coworkers prefer their burgers and fries. 4 stars for the quantity of food and the staff, 3.5 stars for the quality of the food, 3 stars for price, and 2 stars for the decor.
