17 reviews for Young Sushi Japanese Restaurant
Now compared to some people I'm giving this place a better review than some....I wasn't around for the AYCE and have been to very few sushi places in SD area ...so far this place fits my standards. Our service was alright but the sushi was decently priced and tasted pretty good. The mussel dish we had better at other places in San Marcos. I would prefer sushi at SM but too far so this place will do fine.
Stars may go down once I find a sushi place that satisfies my needs more.... Their spicy crunchy roll was kinda cold so that turned me off. But the spider and california roll was very good. The tiger roll is also one of my faves....
Came here w/ a coworker of mine and ordered:
Seaweed salad- good, it's hard to mess this dish up. They plated this dish with the shredded radish, which isn't really necessary.
Salmon/yellowtail nigiri- fresh and tasted good, however the way the chef cut the nigiri was too thin for my taste. The rice underneath the nigiri was small too, I'm quite the sushi conossieur and I kno what a decent size is and I felt a bit skimped.
Salmon skin hand roll- good, coulda been better if the skin was more crispy.
Spicy tuna roll- hardly spicy, fresh, but again the roll was small
dragon roll- tasty, but small.
The problem with this restaurant is proportion. Gotta bump it up some. The quality is fine, but sushi isn't exactly cheap, and I like to leave knowing I was fed well and worth the money I spent. Yes they offer their rolls at 50% off, but I've also been to other sushi bars that offer the discount w/o skimping on proportion.
I'm actually shocked at some of the poor reviews. I don't understand the absolute "horror" people are feeling since they got rid of their all you can eat. So what? Most of the rolls are half price now. That's still a really good deal.
I've been here multiple times, always receiving good service and good sushi. For East county sushi, this place really IS good. The rice is actually cooked properly, imo...a really good way to tell if you are getting quality sushi.
No, it's not the best sushi you could possibly eat but it's good and fresh.
Try this place, you'll be happy.
And this is directed at Jason T. Who on EARTH would wait 25 minutes to get a menu??? That cracks me up! LOL, you have more patience than I. If you actually sat there without a menu for 25 minutes, you deserved the crappy service you got.
This past Saturday three friends and I give this place our monthly visit. Its pretty close to all of our homes and the 50% off on sushi is very appealing. Since we all are big eaters we can come here and not dig to deep into our pockets. But after that nights experience it will be most likely our last. To start off the waitress seats us and gives us our menus. She gives us about ten minutes to make our selections and returns to take our orders. Pretty standard so far.. well about a half an hour rolls by and we still haven't received anything but water. There were only two other parties in the restaurant at the time so i have no idea what was taking them so long. Then finally half of one of our orders appears! Every five to ten minutes one of would get a roll or two. I waited till i received my whole order since i like having a variety and just not eating what they gave me. Also its pretty rude to have my friends watch me eat so i waited for everyone to at least get something. And to top it off they never came to refill our glasses. One of my friends and I decided to order one last roll before we were done. We asked the waitress for the menu and she gave us this horrible look like WTF! and they she said "you want more??" in a super surprised fashion like if were not supposed to have anymore. I kinda felt like Tiny Tim "can i please have some more sir?".. Afterword's we received our check and we were dumb founded that it was $150 dollars!!!! We started doing the math and each one of our orders was on average $35-$40 not including tax. Then we see written tiny on the check "15% gratuity added".. So we ended up paying $25 dollars extra just on the tip witch was forced on us. Ive never heard of a restaurant adding %15 gratuity on a party of four. For the crappy service i would never leave $25 dollars let alone anything at all.
Young Sushi you have lost my business and hopefully everyone that hears my story also.
I'd rate this place a zero if it were possibly for starters. Moving on:
They no longer have "all you can eat" instead offer "half price" on overpriced rolls, so ignore any "all you can eat" post. Perhaps back in the day that was the thing of this place, but I assure you there is nothing holding this place alive now.
First of all, I attended with a small group of five and one child. Yes, five. There was a large Asian group of likely seven to eight seated next to us, and maybe at most five people at the bar, and in various seats the location wasn't even half full. The waitress who attended us was by far the most rude, pathetic excuse for a waitress I have ever seen. Obviously she was likely the owner or such covering for the missing waitress. None the less it does not excuse the need have us wait fifteen minutes to [ask] what kind of drinks we would like and then take an extra ten getting them, only to then hand us a paper with the available rolls. (Yes, 25 minutes to get a menu.)
We then proceeded to order, while she happily interacted in her language with the table next to us, and seated a family she knew (apparent regular customer) behind us, whom she also decided to speak to constantly. A good fifteen minutes later (40 minutes now) she finally decided to return to us after having met with the rest of the groups some two-three times. By now most of our drinks were empty and for the record [never were we asked to have them refilled].
Take note at this point that she repeated our order perfectly, and somehow even managed to know who ordered what.
Time passes.
A lot more time passes. In the meantime we're handed edamame. Big whoop. Keep in mind with had complex rolls, however also had a barrage of basic rolls like tuna roll or egg sashimi.
The waitress returns at the earliest twenty minutes later (an hour now) she returns to "check on us" notices we have no food, asks what the child in our group ordered, we mention a tuna roll and she immediately randomly brings out only a tuna roll. She then returns with two rolls, (not that we ordered around 12) and hands them out and walks away. It takes another twenty minutes (1:20 hours now) to receive my own roll, which was by far the worst caterpillar roll I've ever tasted. The avocado tasted old and the eel tasted as if it had been sitting out all day.
It must have been at least 10 minutes (1:30 hours) before she returned to us, without any more rolls, to tell us they cannot produce a certain group member's order. She had ordered the item (can't recall the name) which is a giant bowl with rice, which has sashimi piled on top. When asked why, recall this location was not even half full, we were told they must [save the sushi] for other customers. By far the most ridiculous excuse I've ever heard considering WE are customers, and if that were the case she could of informed us of that when she repeated our order word for word instead of making is wait 30 minutes to be informed of such a case. We have to literally ask to see a menu to reorder what we want in place of that, keep in mind we're still waiting for nine rolls in this process thirty minutes later. The group member quickly adjust her order to add on some six rolls. A goldmine in cash for a sushi place, fifteen more rolls to make.
Fifteen minutes pass, she does not return to collect the menu, we go to turn it in instead. She comes up coincidentally as she sees us walking back to our table (still with empty drinks) and asks if we adjusted our order (acknowledging that she knew, take note of this moment) to which we state yes and she happily goes off to speak to the Asian family.
To keep this portion short: A near [HOUR] passes and we receive nothing. The waitress had not even spoken to us since. We have to stand up, ask them where our rolls are, with the restaurant nearly empty, and we're informed that they had not even created ANY of our rolls.
Thanks to such ridiculous management, we promptly left after having wasted hours of our time for three pathetic rolls and an old pathetic waitress.
Never again would I come here and I don't recommend it for anyone thanks to their favoritism and lack of customer service.
Supermarket sushi. There really is no other way to describe this place other than that. It's not horrible, but it's the equivalent to pre-made, hard sushi.
There's nothing overly exciting about the restaurant or the food. And because of that, don't expect me to come back.
ok this is the deal with young sushi, their sushi is really freaking good... not only am i a high end food snob but a major sushi snob.... the spicy crispy roll, the killer roll, spicy washington are my favorite!! but the problem with young sushi is that the owner is such a nightmare... she will talk crap and not let you leave if she thinks the tip is insuffiencent and i tip well, they dont like giving to go packets of sopy sause and complain when we ask for refills... they just have shitty asain attitudes,,, food is good! all the sushi rolls are 50% off but take is only 30% off
This place is way down south so I never even knew anything about it but for thirty dollars you can get the best deal if you're a Kobayashi in the making.
My friends took me here and it's the best sushi place I've been to! You can eat to your heart's content unlimited sushi for about three hours which isn't so bad. Although I must confess our appetites were bigger than our stomachs could handle and so we almost ordered way more than we ate. It's a good thing we shared between the six of us.
The waitress was really nice and it was a great atmosphere i'd go again!
IF you are trying to get the all you can eat for under $30 a person, its good. But you are excluded the specialty rolls. The only thing that I could say I would continue to eat on the menu would be the lobster roll. But other than that its an OK place. The food is ok, the sevcie ok.. it just doesnt stand out.
They advertise All You Can Eat Sushi but it's a lie. I went in there with a couple of friends and paid $20 each for all you can eat sushi. After the first round they cut us off. Apparently "All You Can Eat" to these people means all you can eat without exceeding $20 worth on the menu. They told us we couldn't order anymore because we were going to eat them out of business...Are you serious? False Advertisement?
As far as the food goes...not great at all. Don't try!!! I guess there will never be a decent place for sushi in Bonita.
I went here the other day with a friend and wasn't impressed at all. The decor isn't the best around and the food wasn't really that great. I picked up a lunch special (they charged me the dinner price since it was a holiday). I ended up getting the short ribs and the terriyaki chicken. The chicken was really bland tasting but the short ribs weren't that bad. I tried some of my friend's sushi and was really unimpressed. I'd say pass on this the next time I'm in the Bonita area.
An average sushi place. Nothing stands out about it. It was really cool when they lost their liquor license and had a 50% off all alcohol offer when they got it back. I didn't try their miso but might go back and try it since I just heard they have an "all you can eat" deal now.
I been here once a couple months ago with a friend of mine. The food is very excellent and not very crowded inside. Good selection from the menu. I don't recall the name of our server but she was very nice and provided great hospitality, and also very cute, heh. She was always checking on us to see if everything was ok. I am def gonna come back again.
better than i expected. great yellowtail, but the cuts were a bit small. i usually don't order fancy rolls, but i got the spider roll, which was very good.
friendly, attentive staff. if you order a drink, you get the second one for a buck! sweet.
Very good food, nice clean place, good prices. I have been there a few times now and I'm a fan.
My family ended up coming to this place because it was open during the usual japanese break at 3. The food was really good and everything was served on super sick plates and trays. The waitress was really nice, but didn't always fill up our waters when they were empty. However, she did make sure to place the hot plates away from my son, which most waiters forget to do.
We left really full and satisfied. We wish we knew about the All You Can Eat Sushi beforehand though.
pros...this place is great for sushi and lunch. it is a japanese restaurant, but is a korean owned business. the service here is excellent, they are very attentive and they always check up on you. the lunch specials are good and pretty inexpensive too. the sushi is really tasty and relatively inexpensive as well. they greet you with the traditional shout as you come in and then when you leave as well. great place.
cons...the place is showing it's age. this is the 3rd or 4th restaurant in the same location. the music can be very loud korean music. english is the second language spoken here.
