Hopefully you don't go into a Japanese restaurant in a strip mall and expect what you'd expect at a really nice hibachi place.

If you do come in with reasonable expectations, you will definitely enjoy Yo Shi.  When you're looking for a break from the brats you've been grilling all summer, you can definitely come to this place for a nice ~$20 meal that includes soup, a small salad (with awesome ginger soy dressing), fried rice and your choice of protein that the hibachi chef will do up right in front of you in the true hibachi way.  He wasn't the slickest hibachi chef I've ever seen (missed his hat with the egg shell a few times) but he kept us well entertained (and well fed).

    We left happy.

Given the location of this restaurant, we should've aimed for a different cuisine. But we ended up here...and it's a long story as to why.

At the end of the meal, we agreed that this place should've opened as a Chinese restaurant, because their fried rice, chow mein and steamed dumplings on the side weren't that bad...or at least better than the rest. The California rolls tasted like the pre-packaged ones with horribly flavored rice. The miso soup was left untouched after one sip. The sashimi was fairly decent, but questionable in texture.

There was the enka music playing in the background, but they couldn't even spell the words on the menu correctly.

We tried Yoshi even after reading the reviews. The food is very fair. Some of the fish seemed like it had been frozen.  The tuna was ok, but not enough to go out of your way to try.

Take a pass and go somewhere else.  Anywhere else.

The first time I ever ate sushi was at Yoshi and I was not dissapointed.  Although I haven't ventured far from the sushi bar menu other favorites include the seaweed salad and the appetizers.

The booths are nicely covered, for a little extra privacy, IF you are lucky enough to get one.  The service is always great and they are very accomodating.

It loses a star for the prices--a little to high for the quality.  It may seem like you aren't spending a lot but the bill quickly adds up before you realize it.

It also loses a star for atmosphere; the restaurant is oddly set up and the pictures that surround the walls of birthdays and anniversaries are a little hokey in my opinion.

Definately worth it but not top notch.

Despite the strip mall setting, Yoshi is great.  Delicious, fresh, creative rolls.  Favorites include the Crazy Donny and Franz roll.  But my favorite menu item is the Tuna Sashimi Appetizer in spicy sauce.

Other reasons for a thumbs up - they do carry-out and are open until 11pm on the weekends.

I live in Chicago and the only thing I feel I miss out on when visiting Yoshi is an overpriced drink menu.  Definately go!

OK Yoshi is located in a strip mall along with Walmart and Aldi, if you're expecting Japonais you are going to be dissappointed. However, for a change of pace in the middle of Delavan, Yoshi is a good spot to try. The resturant itself is pretty cramped but has two hibachi tables and a number of small booths with curtains. I've had many differant meals here and I can highly recommend the Franz Roll, the Udon Soup and the sashimi entree. I was not so fond of the hibachi entree but I'm not a big fan of that anyway. The sushi entree was a little weird when I had it (warm which grossed me out). The owner is very friendly and the service has always been good. It's a good place to go for something differant than bar food or cook outs. They're good for take out too.

For the Midwest, for Delavan, this place deserves 5 stars.  I was beyond shocked to enter this establishment and sample cuisine that wasn't reminiscent of grocery store sushi.  Fantastically fresh, a lot of work is put into making your sushi and dining experience memorable.  The last two times we have been here we have had lovely service;  we asked for suggestions based on what we liked and our server never steered us the wrong way.  It loses a star for the cramped layout and strip mall location.

A great fun find in Delavan. Good food and service at a fair price. We were surprised to see it wasn't busier here, but regardless-we had a wonderful time! We will be back again and again!

You Know, this place is not as bad as the first reviewer stated.  If you are looking for truely authentic Japanese then yeah, this is probably not your joint.  But, given that you are in Delavan, WI and this is the ONLY Japanese restaurant in the area, they do a pretty darn good job.  The Hibachi grill is a good time, went for my sister in-laws bday party.  The Chef did a really good job with cooking the steak (fillet minot and ribeyes) to everybody's liking, good decent quality cuts.  He also did good with the shrimp, not overcooked.  The Chicken was overcooked and in result turned out dry but all in all he did a good job and the meal was delicious.  I had some sushi as well and it was pretty good.  I think the rice was a bit overcooked, a bit too sticky and bloated, when you go to take a piece of the roll you had to really work it to separate it from the next piece.  It shouldn't be that difficult but I was not disappointed.  I had a great experience and will go back.
