I've done Pinkberry, I've done Tuttimelon, I've done Clear Optometry (San Mateo). This place is by far the greatest addition to froyokind. The yogurt offered here is a mix of more typical sweet yogurts as well as tart versions. This rating is based solely on the tart versions: tarty, fruity, light, deliciousness.
I love how you can add your own toppings, as much or as little as you want. I prefer a 50-50 ratio of yogurt to toppings, which is something you are hard pressed to get at other yogurt places.
Go eat your yogurt heart out! yummy!
A trip to Davis is not complete without a trip to Yolo Berry!
This place is a little small, and i don't think they have AC, which doesn't help, as it's ALWAYS packed, but once you get your yogurt, toppings, and get out of there, there's always somewhere to sit outside and enjoy!
I've never been here when it isn't busy, which is definitely a great sign. They have a good selection of both yogurt and toppings and I can't find any fault with this place!
Froyo is a must after most dinners out with my friends. Yolo Berry is awesome because they always have a good selection of flavors and an array of toppings. I like that I can serve myself depending upon my mood and hunger level, and despite a line out the door, the cashiers move really quickly. My only complaint is the seating area. It's a little awkward as it's in the center of the dining area, so there doesn't seem to be much privacy. I would suggest getting your dessert to go and walking through the park.
Don't forget a stamp card for a free frozen yogurt after so many purchases.
Super yummy! They always have 4-5 flavors available (the tart original is still my favorite) and then a countless number of toppings - candy of all sorts, syrups, hot fudge, fruit... And it's all self-serve so you can make your own insane concoction. The shop is crammed and always busy, but that's a good sign. I stop by on each Davis trip - even got the 'frequent flyer' card. I'm bound to get a free cup in the next couple of years or so :)
I love this place and I always make sure to go when I'm in Davis.
I prefer this place over the other yogurt places in Davis for many reasons:
- the staff is super friendly and I love their customer service
(they are very generous w/ the stamp card)
- the building has a lot of character (inside and out)
-101 toppings (think of all the variations)
-self serve, pay by the ounce (cheap)
- the owner is originally from Davis (support local businesses!)
It is cramped inside but I've always been able to find a spot to enjoy my yogurt outside (even on Picnic Day). I'm kind of glad I don't live in Davis because if I did, I would go here way more than I should.
I like mom and pop shops, and I did like the face that this place felt "home grown". The positives are that it was clear how to serve yourself and the cute cashier was really nice and friendly.
As for my complaint, and its a small but important one, is the fact that both my friend and I both had some stomach issues afterwards. I am thoroughly convinced its because of the fruit because I saw it out in a corner with flies flying all over them. I only had one strawberry but he had several fruits and had to stop in the middle of crossing the street, hunched over with an unusual stomach ache. I attribute it to a lackluster care to sanity in the fruits department.
There are sooooooo many toppings available here. It's like a candy shop! The yogurt consistency and flavor (yum, pistachio!) is solid. Good prices. Open late. Not much sitting room inside, but plenty of places outside to hang out. All good things!
I was heard making the genius remark, "Hey, this tastes like yogurt," before I accidentally dropped my sample cup on the floor. Really, Farrah? I wouldn't have ever guessed!
What I actually meant to say was that the particular flavor I tried tasted like store-bought yogurt. I tend to like the more tart flavors when it comes to frozen yogurt, but still, it was good. The condiments are almost overwhelming. There's so much to choose from. Where do you even begin?
Just -1 star because it's pretty small and gets extremelyyyy crowded. I'll probably be back after I finish off my Yogurt Shack giftcard though. :P
Am I at a house party? No. I'm just at froyo joint.
Yolo Berry is a frozen yogurt shop set up in a house. Every night, music blast from the open windows and groups of students loiter the lawn with cups in hand.
It is self serve with about 5 different flavors and a large aisle of toppings. Yogurt flavors include rich and tart, ranging from boysenberry to cheesecake. They have tons of toppings ranging from chocolates to gummies to jellybeans. This is the first frozen yogurt place I've been to that has jelly beans. They also have homemade flavored mochi as well as the normal mochi. There is strawberry, green tea, coconut, and more. Most notable about this place other than its physical appearance are the vats of hot toppings. They have hot fudge, caramel, cherry pie filling, apple pie filling, and more. The sad thing is that they do not have much fruit and whatever fruit is out does not look fresh.
39 cents per ounce.
There's nothing totally wrong with this, but seriously, being a San Jose native, where the fro-yo places are trendy, cheaper (30c/oz), have a better atmosphere and much better flavors, it's really hard to write a favorable review for this place.
The thing I find the funniest about this place is the selection of toppings, though we actually sat there and counted, and unless every color rainbow sprinkle counted as an individual topping, they fell short of 101.
Their selection is reminiscent of a pay by the bag candy store, coupled with the dessert aisle of a buffet, which isn't a gripe by any means. However, I couldn't help but throw questionable looks at the larger and heavier items on sale. I feel that anyone buying whole cookies, apple pie filling, jumbo whoppers, chocolate covered nuts/pretzels/strawberries and the like by the ounce is getting ripped off, but to each his/her own, I suppose.
Ehh this place is ok...I used to OBSESSED but now that Cultive is self-serve and has tons of tart flavors that are absolutely delicious, I don't go to Yolo berry as often. Yolo Berry yogurt always melts before I finish it, and they don't have that many tart flavors... I also want to see more yogurt flavors instead of toppings. oh, and i miss their old staff! they used to be super helpful and friendly but i don't see them any more... :(

I can't stop praising this yogurt place. I had a sample of snickerdoodle today...a little too sweet… Read more »
Yoloberry is the place to go for an afternoon crave cruncher or an after dinner snack. Yes it is healthier than ice cream and sometimes we make ourselves believe we can eat more of, but who can resist some good frozen yogurt? A snack for all seasons and all weathers.
I like this place because they allow you to sample flavors as much as you like. That sounds kind of shady, but come on, I know you all do it. I admit, one time I was too full to buy a whole one so I sampled a few and that was my dessert. They change their flavors quite often, and have specialty ones that aren't that bad (i.e. mint, cheesecake, random fruits). This place also offers a smaller cup next to the cash register if you want to do portion control (and it weighs less). I would of course recommend the original tart flavor because it's OG.
Their original mochi is pretty good, but sometimes there is a lot of flour that they don't sift off. Their flavored mochi was the craze in the beginning, but I Feel they don't have much flavor. The fruits are the MUST GET. They often have a good variety (mango, kiwi, strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, pineapple, raspberry) but make sure it's in season.
The only thing I would suggest is cutting the fruit smaller because a big chunk of fruit and a spoon of yogurt is not the perfect balance.
Cheers to froyo!
Wow, they had like 4 flavors of mochi balls....awesome!!!!
The yogurt was kinda disappointing to me though. I got my usually plain tart, which was a little on the icy side and a tad bit to sweet for me. Cherry on Top in Orange on Chapman is my fav.
But the condiments...wow!!! I don't think I've ever seen a place with that many.
One bad ding though: Dead roach looking bug by window. The place was pretty clean, so maybe it just found it way there recently. Oh, another thing, place is pretty tiny...get's super crowded and stuffy.
This will be my to go place for frozen yogurt while I have school in Davis in the Fall. I have already been here twice in my 3 days stay. The tart is pretty good, it reminds me of a cross between the tart-ness of Jubili and the texture of Tutti melon. I do like it creamy and very tart! The sorbet is very good! I always get the tart with the sorbet. They do have a lot of toppings but most of it is like sugary things and a very small selection of fruit. It is cool that they have pie filling as a topping! The workers here are very friendly!
Ok. I think this is the 2nd best yogurt place I've tried. Their original tart is comparable to cultives, but just isn't as good. Their other flavors are kind of like soft-serve, but their Very Berry Sorbet was delish! I got a mixture of these. They have a lot of variety as far as toppings go, and man, they need different sized cups because those cups are HUGE hahaha. I just read someone's review saying the people behind the register have smaller cups, but oh well. I like their original flavor mochi. And they have chocolate covered gummi bears. I could really just get a cup of candy and be happy. hahaha.
I'll definitely come back when I'm too broke for cultive (which is often. hahaha)
Don't come with a big group. The place is tiny.
FYI, there was a filipino restaurant that occupied the space here before.
Yolo Berry is a cute little froyo place with every possible topping you could ever think of, from strawberries and pineapple to chocolate pretzels and whatnot. It's amazing.
I personally just like original tart, which is actually tart, with whatever fruit they have and some mochi, but I'm sure the other flavors are just as good.
Yay for froyo.
If you're choosing between the now multiple yogurt shops in Downtown Davis go for Yolo Berry...
You will not be disappointed. The price is right. They are always switching out yogurt flavors (the two times I have gone I was excited there were different flavors). There are 6 flavors at a time and 100 toppings to choose from. There seems to always be a sorbet option for the non-dairy people. The mango sorbet is superb. The toppings are healthy- tons of fresh fruit, granola, etc. There are also candy choices for the sweet tooth people and multiple syrups. My favorite toppings are the mochi balls- multiple flavors! Mmmm so good. The green spoons are cute. I wash mine and re-use them at home. Everything is very clean and fresh.
The main reason I fall for this place is community. Unlike the other two yogurt places (Cultivé and Yogurt Shack) Yolo Berry is NOT a chain. The owner used to be the manager at Peets coffee (another plus) and he spent a ton of time renovating the old house the shop now occupies. He left Peets (I was sad, because he knew my drink my heart) and started this business. I appreciate what he has done- he tries to offer the community healthy yogurt options and uses a house for his shop instead of one of the fancy buildings right in the center of down town davis. The house is cute- still has it's original windows and hard wood floors. Hopefully within time he'll know my yogurt by heart :)
The location is perfect- right across the street from Farmers Market!
Over all I am so happy this yogurt shop is in Davis and will only go here. Support your local business!!!!
Tasty yogurt. It's funny to see frozen yogurt coming back into fashion.
I had the original tart, which was nice and sour. I can't tell if its fermented or if they just add acid, but in any case, it is really good. Add some chocolate covered almonds and fresh fruit and you have a dessert worth leaving the house for.
With so many combinations of flavors and toppings, I'm compelled to go back.
3 stars if you're looking for tart yogurt, 4-5 if you're into sweet yogurt or candy.
Yolo Berry is a little shop near campus, and it is absolutely full of toppings! In fact, I took another cup (it is self serve at 39 cents an ounce) just for candy. There are gummies, chocolates, malt balls, candy corn, etc. I ended up getting chocolate covered bananas, chocolate covered strawberries, and yogurt covered raisins to gnosh on.
There were six flavors, including cake batter and chocolate, but only one was tart (original). I got the original tart as well as orange burst sorbet. My Froyo tasted almost like a creamsicle! The original tart was decent but I do prefer more tartness in my Froyo. I did like the sorbet.
As far as toppings go...if you're a toppings person it is somewhat overwhelming! Candy candy candy and not just candy but syrups and homemade mochi. I got green tea flavored and plain mochi (no flavored mochi this day) and found them nice and chewy, though the green tea didn't go that well with my froyo.
There are also brownie bits, cookie dough, peanut butter cups, etc. I got this unidentifiable cut up cake-stuff. OMG it was so good. Reading other peoples' reviews, my guess is that it was cheesecake. Maybe that's why it tasted so familiar.
The fruit selection isn't as great. No berries =(. They did have fresh mango, pineapple, kiwi, and banana, but it was nowhere as great as the South Bay selection of fruit!
Total damage: $3.05 for Froyo with toppings and some candy! http://static.px.yelp.... Not bad.
If I have the chance to return, I'm probably gonna just take a cup and fill it with dry toppings...Nom nom nom..
Where was all this when I was there 10+ years ago? Oh god, I'm dating myself. So many yummy places in Davis now, especially this place!
I was there with my sis and dbf late Friday night and I was soooooooo glad to see HARD HAT. YUM!!!! Lots of interesting toppings to put on your yogurt like swedish fish, sour gummy stuff, etc. I'm a boring person so I just went for the hard hat and mini peanut butter cups on my vanilla and kahlua yogurt. YUMMMM. Next time I'll stick with vanilla (see, that's how boring I am). I was so excited that my proportions were off so next time I'll put more yogurt than hard hat so it wont melt. :)
Cute little place. Not much room for many tables and chairs, so if you one of the unlucky ones in there on a cold winter night, you might be huddled in the corner eating your yogurt. The 3 of us were lucky to grab some chairs that night. Phew!
Oh, it's $.39 per ounce, I thought it pricey since the ones here in the south bay are like $.35 or $.36 an ounce, but I guess there aren't many yogurt places in Davis.
Yoloberry is probably my favorite froyo place. They have tons of toppings and they rotate their froyo flavors too.
My favorite thing about Yoloberry is also my least favorite. It's so cute and small and looks like a little house but...it can also get really crowded because of this and your froyo may start melting while you wait in line or scramble around the crowd to get your toppings. But it is super cute so it's cool :)
Oooooh I love me some yogurt. To be specific- I love tart yogurt with regular mochi and lots of fruit.
Yolo Berry gives exactly that and it's a bit cheaper than competitor Cultive.
But beware froyo lovers- self serve yogurt has a lot more bacteria on the part left on the machine, from the last customer...which gives Cultive a little more advantage.
All in all- I love froyo. Yummmmm.
Wow! Everything about Yolo Berry Yogurt is excellent.
First of all, its cheap because you pay 39 cents for an ounce.
Second, they have 6 flavors of yogurt to choose. They have both sweet frozen yogurt and tart yogurt in delicious flavors (cheesecake, mango, original tart, cookies-n-creme, Kahlua, chocolate, etc). I like the cheesecake, mango, and original tart.
Third, 101 toppings to choose! All the candies, cereals, nuts, chocolates, sauces, fudges, mochis, and fruit you can have. You can really make what you love. I especially love the cheesecake bits. I think you can buy the candy in bulk here, I bet the candies are cheaper than Sweet Factory.
Fourth, somewhat a good location. It is right across the street from central park and not a far walk from UCDavis campus.
I would definitely recommend this delicious frozen yogurt joint to someone.
I'm the type of person who usually chooses sports cars over hybrids, and ice cream over frozen yogurt. There are exceptions like the Prius, and of course, Yolo Berry.
Despite the fact that I think frozen yogurt is generally overpriced and trendy, Yolo Berry offers affordable froyo and toppings, which is currently priced at 39 cents per ounce. I usually avoid buying many toppings, making my full cup of froyo roughly $2.50.
The manager is very nice and generous. He once gave me extra stamps on my Free Yogurt Card.
I still don't like frozen yogurt, but I love Yolo Berry.
If I never tried Yogurtouille or YoCup, I might have given this place 4-stars...BUUUUT I did try Yogurtouille and YoCup...and they pwns Yolo Berry. Once you try the best (to my taste, at least), other places just don't make the cut. The tart tastes bitter and slighty milky to me...the cookies and cream was ok--light but chocolate-y ... BUT Yogurtouille's french vanilla and chocolate taste better! (hm...how do I describe...its light but still very flavorful?)
The cool thing about this place is the selection of toppings and their customized mochi flavors. I ended up just getting a cup of candy (skittles...taste the rainbow! hellza sour belts...gummi-o's...gummi bears...) for $2.65? It was tight...
Came here last weekend when I came back into town and I had pretty high expectations coming from my friend's who were still going to school in Davis. Honestly when I saw this place I thought it was just a house but once inside they had a lot of toppings to choose from and the fact that it was only 38 cents/ounce which is pretty darn cheap. I got the raspberry one and didn't want to try the other one's. They do have a good selection of toppings but nothing I usually put on my yogurt since most of it was candy. Well after getting my yogurt which was around $3 and my bowl was 3/4 full I was kinda disappointed. It wasn't tart and too creamy for me but still good. The one thing they're missing is mochi topping which would probably bumped my rating to 5 stars but until then they are a 4.
Yolo Berry is fantastic! They have an amazing selection of toppings - much better quality and quantity than Yogurt Shack. I've only been twice (in a matter of 3 days) and there were already new toppings on my 2nd visit. They say they have 101 toppings and I wouldn't be surprised; there's everything from several hot and room temp sauces (apple pie filling, hot fudge, caramel, etc.) to fresh fruit and 3 flavors of homemade mochi, as well as of course a generous supply of different candies. The yogurt was good as well and they have 6 flavors to choose from (these were also different on my 2nd visit).
The ambiance is also nice. The staff is friendly and helpful and continually trying to improve the store. The manager asked me for any topping suggestions and is working on getting my favorite candy. The store is a bit small but there are several tables inside and I love the brightly colored walls. I really don't think I'll be returning to Yogurt Shack (simply not as good) or Cultive (way more $$ and fewer choices), even to finish off my buy 10, get 1 free cards (btw, it's buy 8 and get 1 free at Yolo Berry!).
Yoloberry is admittedly the best place to get froyo in Davis, but when your only competition is Cultive and Yogurtshack, you don't have to try too hard. It is satisfying on hot summer days, but cannot compare to places like Yogurtland or Mochi in Sacramento.
The middle ground between Swirl and Yogurt Shack, slightly tart yogurt, but with toppings you actually want to eat. It beats Yogurt Shack by actually having tasty yogurt, in my mind that's a big plus. The yogurt isn't quite what I would call 'tart', but it's not nearly as sweet, nor as heavy as your typical frozen yogurt. They also have a wonderful and delicious assortment of toppings, a good many of them you would have to be crazy to put on your ice cream (Swedish fish I'm looking at you).
It's a damn tasty experience for sure
A cute little place right in the smack of downtown, Yoloberry Yogurt is a cool place to get some refreshing yummies. A tad expensive, like the other frozen yogurt places in Davis, it will range on average to about $3-$4 per person. They charge you by the weight of your cup.
Overall, it would be a great place to go with friends or on a date with that special someone, particularly on a warm spring or summer day. They had four or five yogurt flavors, including a Mango Tango dairy-free sherbert for those who are lactose intolerant. Then they have lots of toppings, from candy like chocolate covered gummy bears to cake-like toppings like brownie and cheesecake bits to fresh fruit like kiwis, strawberries, blackberries, bananas, etc. Then Central Park is right there, so take a stroll, sit down on a bench under a tree, and savor your yummy goodness.
Ever since I've tried the original tart here at Yoloberry, I've never gone to Cultive or Yogurt Shack again. It's the best out of the 3 yogurt shops in the vicinity. They change their sorbet flavors every 1-2 weeks. It's always super crowded. I always get fruit on the bottom and then swirl original tart and the sorbet on the top to avoid melting =) Filling up my 3rd buy 8 get 1 free card!
Yoloberry is the place to go if you have a sweet tooth and want cheap frozen yogurt. They have unique flavors (sometime unappealing), but I'm always able to find something I like. Out of all the froyo places that I've been to, they have to best mochi (tastes fresh and not tough to chew). Even during their peak hours it's easy to get in and out quickly with the self serve.
I like this place a lot, definitely go here.
There's good flavors, it's self-serve, there's lots of toppings that you can put on yourself. Get some different flavored mochi, cheesecake, and fruit.
The place seemed pretty cheap too. But maybe it's because I went on the grand opening and there was a discount.
Last time I was there I think a cute Asian girl was working too and that always makes the room better.
wowowow I was overimpressed with this place. It is super duper CUTE, and the hospitality is good. They are more than willing to let you try whatever flavor they wanted, and this is my favorite type of yogurt shop because :
1) You can get it yourself for 39 cents an ounce
2) There's sweet yogurt (which is like ice cream sort of) OR tart yogurt, so it depends on what you're feelin like
3) They have candy and syrup, but they also have fresh fruit + mochi
I will def continue coming here... it is way super duper cute, not to mention its behind the park so its one of the few places in downtown with lots of parking up front...The management is professional and has a positive attitude, and they have everything I could ask for in a yogurt shop..yes!
Hits: best location/best price/ most cute Yogurt Shop in Davis. 6 flavors offered, including sorbet / tart / pumpkin (very sweet) & other normal creamy-yogurt flavors. TONS of toppings.
Misses: flavored mochi reminds me of flavored chapstick or something.
yogurtland's bastard brother! found! in davis, ca!
and, goshdarn can you believe it, they even have the mochi bits!! and in melon and strawberry flavor too, which is actually kinda whaaaaa??? but they're aight.
mango and banana flavors are my pick. i love that they play music outside. and they give out yoloberry yogurt temporary tattoos. and the yoloberry guy is really nice. i wish this place existed when i was still a student at davis. i would have lived here during the summer daze.
yolo berry has a cute environmet and they change their flavours every now and then. they have tons of toppings and its cheaper than the other froyo joints in davis. however it's still pricier than yogurtland (i would have given it 4 stars if it was cheaper). finding a place to sit it tough bc they dont have much seating and it can get pretty crowded. compared to cultive there are way more toppings and the quality of their frozen yogurt is tastier than yogurt shack's.
I was super stoked when I was in Davis that there was a place to get some epic frozen yogurt. They have rotating flavors and old favorites. I'm super classic and go with tart original and some fruit. This place has every candy, syrup, sprinkle, cereal, fruit and....Mochi? Yes, they have little mochi cubes which if paired right, produce a great mouth experience. The staff was nice, the place was clean, i can see it getting crowded in the summer. This is one of the best yogurt places I've seen, and will be back!
As I don't eat the toppings, I can't comment on them. Rotating flavors, which for the most part taste great. I come here when it's freezing cold...it's that good. Plus it's cheap as dirt :]
If I'm in the mood for something tart, I head over to cultive...but for anything else, I come here.
Bonus for having a bathroom...and matching the spoon / wall color.
Holy moly, do they have A LOT of toppings! It's like candyland in there. It was my first time there, and I got the strawberry flavored yogurt. There were so many toppings, I couldn't really decide what to put. I just kinda put a few of everything on it. The yogurt itself was tarty and not watery...if you know what I mean...and the flavor was just perfect, not too sweet, but sweet enough. The toppings ranged from mini peanut butter chocolate cups to yogurt flavored pretzels. They also have different types of syrups you can add. AND THE MOCHI WAS MMMM. Usually it gets all hard and nasty, but it was chewy. :) Next time I drop by Davis, I'd totally come back here.
I went here on a recent trip back to Davis. I had the chocolate and pomegranate flavors which were both very tasty. When I moved on to the toppings I felt almost overwhelmed with all the choices but in a good way, it was like being in a candy store with all the different choices! I liked the fact that they just let you put whatever you want on your yogurt and then weigh it to figure out the price. I liked it even better thanks to my friend who had a free coupon :) I only wish this place (and the other fro-yo places) that are open in Davis now had been there 2 years ago when I was a student....I would have been quite the patron especially since it is located right next to the farmer's market park and smooth as silk day spa and a short walk from campus.
