Yolk is clearly the best part of an egg. Which is why I, like many people, must gravitate to a shop that goes by the same name.

If you happen to be at LaMill..check out this local shop. It's that yellow yolk colored boutique located just down the street. Obv.

They have a nice selection of fun kitchen/home decor items, as well as a smattering of accessories, children's stuff, unique greeting cards, books, the works. It's a nice place to find interesting, attainable gifts for the girl on your list who has it all.

I snagged a bunch of my favorite brand of candles, Voluspa and a few decorative items for my apartment. They sell this great line of olive wood kitchen products made by Bannouras which I love. The wood markings are to-die.

It's pretty surprising how much product they are able to stuff into this little space, but by god, they did it.  Whenever I am in the Silverlake area, this will be a must-stop shop that I hit..right after I get my fix at Intelligentsia, of course.

    I want everything in here.

    Everything.

Fantastic shop in Silverlake right next door to Lamill, great for gifts.

It is a small shop packed with fun housewares, books, children's toys and clothing, as well as lots of other miscellaneous items.

I was admittedly surprised that items weren't more expensive than they were, which is nice.  Don't go raising your prices now that I said that.  :b

Great little shop filled with many treasures. Very unique selection of gifts and home goods.

The kids section is also stocked with many things I've never seen anywhere else.

Only downside is that the unique items come with unique price tags. Some items are reasonably priced while others are probably a little too high.

I get it though. Small shop in a trendy area. It's gonna happen.

I say go there; Find something you can't live without and take it home.

maybe i hit yolk on an off day, but i didn't find the salespeople particularly helpful or responsive. the store was cool, for sure, but prices were totally wild - some items were very reasonably priced and some were shockingly high. i'd pick up a candle and expect the price to be anywhere from $10 and $60. and a lot of things didn't have price tags.

that said, it is definitely a cool shop. i'd go back if i wanted a unique birthday gift, bridal shower gift, or something for that crazy aunt that you know we all have.

Cute hole in the wall in Silverlake! I didn't even notice this place driving bye to LaMill coffee. My girlfriend had noticed this place walking to the coffee shop. SO we had to check it out!

They have the most random things in here! But I love it!. Picture Urban Outfitters toys and novelties section but as a whole store! LOOVE!

They have their sale section area with great deals! $2 reusable luggage tags! sale on candles and lots of random things!

I purchased disposable drinking cups with different noses as designs. No immediate purpose at this time, BUT! when you're drunk and buzzing with these cups, they will be hilarious!

I used to be the girl who showed up late to baby showers, a little disheveled, with a gift in a reused shopping bag, with white tissue paper jammed on top of it all.  Sure, it's the thought that counts, right?  It's just that, sometimes, I wouldn't really finish the thought, I'd just zone out a little and... **trails off**

Then I finally hauled my ass into Yolk - a excellent little store with lots of toys for hepster bebes (NOT made in China - important!) and a lovely, bright-colored selection of housewares/decor items with a Scandinavian bent.  Most of the items are right in my giftable price range, although the women's clothes and jewelry start to get a little spendy.

And here's the kicker for lazy old me.  They gift wrap. DEAR GOD THANK YOU. I AM SO LAZY but I want to be a classy lady.  No longer will I be "that girl" with the sloppily wrapped gift, who also showed up late, with frizzy hair.  I'm working on the hair at least.

Yolk is the place where designers (of all genres) go when they die and go to heaven... Or if they have kids/need a gift for a kid or baby.

It's a store that carries fantastic baby/kids items, yet also stocks cool gift-like things that adults would covet. From adorable toys to super high-design pillows to cool notebooks, this place has it all. It's curated really well, so there is great stuff from Finland and NYC, and yet also offerings from local designers too! We heart that!

Cool Trivia Tid-Bit: It was used as a chic location in the movie "I Love You, Man"

Yolk is the place I would buy all my friends Christmas presents if i was rich.
I am sad to report that I am not rich. This means I will not be able to buy my niece the adorable felted baby hat we saw. ]Now maybe you are wondering why, if I can't afford anything in the store, I would give them 4 stars. The reason is this:
Yolk is a giant bowl of awesomeness covered in a sweet syrup of cool, and topped with whipped cream and a cherry.

I drove by Yolk the other night and saw a tagger tagging it. He did it on the front glass, which I thought was weird because it would be easy to scrape off. Then I remembered I needed to review Yolk on Yelp.

Yolk is a shop I would probably never go into by myself, but I've been here several times with my lady and really like it. The devil is in the details here. They have great style and a great selection of everything from pillows, to candles, to placemats, to books, etc. A really cool place to buy gifts for people who wear dresses and high heels (aka Transvestites). Women, too.

I absolutely love and adore this little store nestled along Silver Lake Blvd.  I remember when I first discovered this shop, I walked around, marveling at all the unique, design-saavy pieces.  I can always rely on this store to find the perfect gift for any occasion.

I have noticed a few changes under the new ownership.  It's a little more cluttered with items that I might find at some of the shops on 3rd Street (soaps, candles, etc), but I still love it nonetheless.   The owner is super nice and friendly and they offer a variety of special items, ranging from cute baby clothes to stylish costume jewelry to modern dinnerware.  If you love graphic design like I do, you will truly enjoy all the interesting patterns and graphical elements that make these pieces so exceptional.

Imagine if Shepard Fairy, the rolling stones, and babies r' us all had an orgy with a box Crayola 64 count. This would be their love child, except the baby stuff is tucked away in the back (a safe distance from the rock n roll).

This place reminded me of the first time I stepped into a (forgive me Yolk) urban outfitters in 2001. Everything was so cool, everything was fresh. Yolk revived all these feelings for me. From the wall stencils, to the pillow cases, to the world map place mats this store is gorgeous, unforgivingly hip, and completely chic.

Everything in here is worth buying. Each item you  pick up is fun, colorful, smart, and fairly priced. You can find a $1000 dollar coffee table with 3 dollar trinkets on it. A fair amount of quality local made furniture and the most amazing book selection.

*** I went into a rant which can be read on my blog that is not exactly yelp appropriate http://daveyooner.blog... ******

Read if you want i don't care. Yolk, I love you man.

Great shop for gifts or that not so necessary gift to yourself! I was particularly fond of the ink blot tea set, but at $230 I couldn't justify it right now. There are more reasonably priced items though, and a lot of merch, so it's likely to have something to please everyone with a little sass and a lotta style.

I agree with Sarah F. who noted the excessive and unnecessary line of candles that take up space that could be better suited to open up the floor plan.Loved the sacred heart wrapping paper, lace-like wall mirrors, and sake cups with little animals on them.

Also a great stop for unique presents for a loved one who has just had a little munchkin (aka baby).

Yolk is a groovy little object design shop in Silver Lake. Groovy house-wares and childrens stuff. This weekend they are celebrating their second (or third) aniversary on the block. To celebrate they're having a party that includes a showing of some brand new BLOK pieces created by my friend Rebekah Potter. Her stuff is very groovy and if you don't see something you like, you can easily comission her to do personalized bloks.

If this wasn't enough of a reason to stop by the Silver Lake blvd. strip, there are several sales going on at the other shops including 10ten.

Really---if money wasn't the issue, you would be walking out with bags full of cute stuff for your house. They have a lot of artsy fartsy items that I adored, (such as books, cards, sketchbooks, etc) and even cuter necklaces that I was tempted to purchase. They have a lot of cool furniture/homey items that can easily add a flavor to your love nest. I shall be back soon, Yolk!

    cute but dangerous!

the perfect "mom and me" shop for hip moms. srsly. even though I have no kids, and live nowhere near southern cal, if I did, we'd (my fake child and I) be coming here.. like daily.

as it was, I happened to be in LA for work and my bestie recommended stopping by. unfortunately my wallet didn't second the suggestion as about 10 minutes after walking in, I was walking out about $150 poorer. still, no regrets on my purchases. in fact, very pleased. the owner's got quite the eye for all things unique and lovely. picked up a gold bracelet, ring, and an amazing tobacco, leather, and wood scented candle for our apartment. pretty sweet souvenirs if you ask me :)

p.s. it's directly next door to LAMILL (some of the best coffee I've EVER had). gotta give props on a 2-4-1.

Finally, I could find a nice shop that carries good design stuffs. But a bit expensive. They have also Lamy fountain pen, Finland contemporary fabric maker Marimekko stuffs (this maker is too girlie for me, though), nice small gifts. I hope they have more items.

I'm just wondering, why this kind of shop is carrying baby products?

Okay, so I don't know how this store used to be (see other reviews), but I sure do love how it is today. I went there just before the holidays to fetch a gift for my wonderful more-than-a-crush, and I was happy to find that they still had one left of the gift that he'd been eyeing but hadn't yet bought for himself. When I brought it to the counter to set down while I continued to shop, they cheerfully offered to wrap it for me while I waited, and were extremely gracious and fun to chat with. I scoured the rest of the store for other gifts, found a few great cards and some adorable wine gift bags, and admired many of the other fun and rather unusual items they featured. I know I'll be back again for more shopping excursions, or just to stop in and say hello after brunch at the Back Door Bakery down the street.

I noticed this store while driving in LA after having a bite to eat up the street and I had to stop here because I had seen Yolk featured in Lucky magazine. The store was just as I had imagined. There are so many cool and unique items for your home. I love the candles and stationary. We ended up buying a wooden toy for my son. They have an awesome collection of toys for the little ones. They even have really cute unique baby clothes. I recommend this store for anyone who is trying to find a special gift, or if you want to add some flavor to your home. This store is awesome!

The type of place you hope to find on Yelp: A perfect little hole-in-the-wall friendly design savvy favorite neighborhood find, that otherwise you'd never be privy just googling. It's become my one-stop shop for classy gifting: (think chic kitchen gadgets, housewares, jewelry, etc), witty designer stationary, trendy toddler threads and eco-friendly toys - and they gift wrap beautifully. Venturing out to Monkeyhouse toy store last week, I stumbled upon Yolk and at first sight, my eyes were buggin out of my head with the feeling that I was 5 years old in a toy store.  This place IS INTERIOR HEAVEN!  Marrimekko everything everywhere!!!  Everything was mostly from Finland, Sweden, & Italy.  For such a small store, it is chocked full of housewares for bath, bedroom, kitchen, and even baby clothes and toys.  I really had to pay attention to the prices as I was rabbing everything I laid my eyes on.  It's definately not cheap, so I sadly had to pick the pieces I loved the most and walk away.  *tear*   But I am so happy to know that when I do have some extra cash, this is where I'm going to blow it!

Yolk has been a great place to shop both when Melanie owned it and now with Maria. The space itself is enjoyable to be in and what i like about it is that you can spend any amount of time you would like and leave satisfied. I noticed some reviews here act like you might actually HAVE TO LOOK to find something..personally this is what i like. I would hope one wanted to take some time to look for a gift..now i get that we all have time constraints..and if that be the case i have no doubt that if you asked any of the staff at YOLK you would be in and out in minutes feeling confident with your purchases. So enough whimpering..
Its an awesome place with new things you have not seen and good old staples. I like the "imports" i am seeing there from Scandinavia a lot! i guess i dont have much to complain about in the way of YOLK as its unique, friendly and a neighborhood plus to Silverlake..grab your coffee at Backdoor and walk over to YOLK to browse...x-mas shopping  is easily taken care of..whatever your budget...

An odd kind of store in an odd kind of street. I went to Yolk, as it is the only place I know of in the Los Angeles area that carries "noodler's ink" (for you fountain pen freaks. It's an odd kind of store with knick knacks and misc. toys and trinkets you wouldn't find anywhere really but yolk. The check out area looks like it's in the middle of a nursery school. The staff was really friendly in helping me look for Baystate Blue Ink which wasn't on display but luckily they had one in the rear, and the person helping me didn't hesitate to go look for it. Even though the conversation was brief, it was probably the most un-awkward conversation that i've had in my life when it came to a purchase, like I was buying some from a friend rather than a store. Nevertheless, I was also told that if there is a color of Noodler's ink that I wanted but they didn't carry, that they would order it for me. The transaction was topped off with them asking me if I wanted my ink giftwrapped and them placing the ink in a bright yellow yolk-colored bag. The crap that accumulates in every day life definitely makes you appreciate places like yolk, quite different.

I love Yolk. I have a habit of calling it "Egg" by mistake, but that's my problem. I won't repeat all that has been said here about its tastefulness, Swedish accents, great housewares, etc., although that is all true. I will only emphasize that its kids' section is no afterthought; it's phenomenal -- although those Plan toys it carries have become breathtakingly expensive -- and the best local place I know to pick up a shower gift. My one Yolk-related complaint -- and here I am in disagreement with many of you -- is that the people who work there have never seemed overly friendly to me. Their attitude is what I'd have to describe as diffident, although usually they'll warm up if you work on them a bit. Since I'm a big fan of customer service I'd love this not to be the case...but what can you do? It is Silverlake, after all. God forbid anyone should be effusive.
