16 reviews for Yogurt Monkey
There's been a frozen yogurt takeover in Sacramento in 2009.
Yogurt Monkey has flavors like mango, green tea, and cake batter. All of which I tried of course which were all great.
Huge variety of toppings including seasonal fresh fruit, small cheese cake bites, and any flavor of syrup in addition to all of the candy toppings.
At this yogurt place they charge you by the pound not by how many toppings you have so that's a definite plus if you can't make up your mind like me.
Definitely will be back especially because of the hours 11am to 11pm. Nice.
Cheaper than other places.
Mochii has better variety of flavors and isn't that much more expensive.
You pay by the pound instead of picking toppings individually. After you self-serve (yogurt and toppings) you put everything on a scale and pay. They take plastic which is a plus.
The toppings included various sauces, candies, nuts, brownie bits, plus much more.
delicious , good amount of toppings , MUCH cheaper than just about every other yogurt shop
+ Self serve yogurt
- Peanut butter flavor was a disappointment
+ Lots of variety of toppings
- No fruit toppings
+ Conveniently located
- Most of the yogurt is too melt-y and not terribly fresh
I've had much better frozen yogurt, but this place hit the spot for the time being.
The yogurt here was NOT good. I tried some of my sister's, and the strawberry had a really weird after taste. Kinda metal-ish? The only good part was the Twix she put in it. Sampled the pomegranate tart which was okay, not as good as Yogurtagogo. The color of it is what scared me the most, radioactive pink.
There are so many better alternatives to this place, I probably will never come here again. Heck I would even go to Big Spoon (gasps) on a 105 degree Saturday afternoon, and stand in line behind a kindergarten class than come here again. I would even go to Rehab at the Hard Rock again...etc.
Hopefully the place opening across the street is better.
I've been here 2x, and I think it's the second best self-serve frozen yogurt place in town behind Big Spoon on J St. My favorite topping is the toasted coconut, which tastes soooo good on the vanilla yogurt. Unfortunately though they rotate it with the regular coconut, so it's not always available. Good variety of toppings, lots of fresh fruit ones which a lot of these yogurt places could have more of.
Since i went here when it first opened up, i had to look at teh reviews to see if anything has changed.
I'm reading the reviews and alot of people are complimenting on the pomogrante and bannana tart. So i decided to go over there and try it myself.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is to die for. I really love it. It is soo good. It doesn't melt as fast. It is creamy. This is going to be my favorite place to get some pomogrante tart. Oh yeah, the bannana too.

So i went here w/ 3 of my co-workers. The place was really small. The place is brand new and it just… Read more »
One day in the summer of 2008 we drove by this place and I thought, "What the heck is a Yogurt Monkey??" We were on our way to dinner and when we were done and they asked if we wanted dessert, I said, "Why don't we try that Yogurt Monkey place instead?" So a group of us made the first of what would be many, many, many trips to Yogurt Monkey.
My kids and I love the self-serve concept. My favorite flavor is pomegranate, but I also like chocolate and vanilla. These are the "base" flavors and then they rotate other flavors in and out.
I think strawberry is also a base flavor, but it's not my favorite -- I think that one is sugar free? Some other good ones have been peanut butter, orange, coffee, blueberry, and I'm probably forgetting the rest... The toppings are great -- a mix of healthy and not-so-healthy. I do miss the fresh strawberries that they used to have.
My kids ask me to take them here at least once a week -- sometimes more often than that. They have "buy 10 get one free" cards and I have cashed in MANY of these cards.
We visited Yogurt Monkey less during the winter, but we've seen some sunny days recently and so our visits are becoming more frequent. I imagine by the time summer rolls around that we'll be there at least twice a week. I can't wait!
Very good. Pomegranate tart is not radioactive pink as noted by Andee V below - at least not the dozen or so times I've been there - and it is quite delish with chocolate and vanilla yogurt, topped with carob chips. Carob, my fave, as I am a child of the 70s. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
we've gone there before without issues or complaints. today was a different story my husband got vanilla yogurt and all the cereals. while eating his fro yo he found a short and curly in his yogurt cup. ummmm..... ewwwww. and the girl behind the counter says "you're more than welcome to make another." really?? we don't get our money back just go make another and hope that you don't get pubic hair as a topping?? no thank you. that will be the last time we go there.
3 words - Original Tart + Mochi! Did not get 5 stars because most of the flavors were still chilling and runny, luckily the original tart was frozen and ready to eat.
I wanted to like this place going in, but the topping selection and no sugar free flavor availability made me just walk away. Yogurt is going by way of sushi in this town, and I think it's a strange phenomenon. This is not the best place to buy yogurt and one can tell by looking. I am wondering what will happen to this place once the shop across the street opens.
better than big spoon... its somewhere between creamy and pinkberry. the pomogranate with mochi balls is a favorite. nice location for me plus its cheap! for 2 adults and a child we totaled just under $10
Not as good as big spoon, however, much more conviniently located for me. Peanut Butter flavor was really good, toppings selection was good but not great. Definitley not a place to sit & enjoy, get it to go to avoid the sponge bob on the tv & the awkward layout. On the plus side its cheap & good if you're craving yogurt & dont feel like trekkin over to big spoon.
There are very few yogurt places in Sac, and I'm going to say that this is the best as far as they go. The weigh your yogurt is the best way to serve it, and their selection of toppings was great. The yogurt tasted amazing and was thick and silky. If you're in the mood for yogurt in sacramento, the monkey is number 1.
i wanted to like this place. my little sister raved about it to me, but i was not impressed. the yogurt was runny and the toppings left a lot to be desired. the young girl at the register was very nice, though.
