I was skeptical of this place when my co-workers decided to go get some yogurt one evening after a long day at the office. Turns out the decision was a good one. I had the mango flavored yougurt which given that I'm not a big fan of yogurt, it tasted like ice cream (which I love). So in a nutshell, it was absolutely delicious. The blast of tart exploded in my mouth as I licked it up and down, around and around until I could it get in manageable state to finish up the cone.
Would I come back here again? Definitely!
Yogurt Fantasy looks like they were trying to catch on to the fro-yo craze but is doing a sloppy job at it. My friend's yogurt was liquid and the toppings were so limited. It was a regular yogurt shop but just added fro-yo.
Fro-yo girl here. Spotted another tart fro-yo place to check out in downtown Mountain View. The other reviewers mention a tart mango fro-yo. On the day I visited they didn't have that flavor, but they had the original tart and blueberry tart flavors as well as sweet fro-yo flavors (boysenberry, cappuccino). I tried a sample of the blueberry tart and it didn't seem tart.
I had a small cup of the original tart fro-yo with mochi balls ($4.04). Their fro-yo is decent but has a strange texture. It's icy but coarse, almost shaved ice like. I kept tasting bits of ice. They barely filled my cup, so it's not a good value. Most places put enough yogurt in your cup so that the swirl exceeds the cup height by a couple of inches. Here, the yogurt was below the height of the cup, at its tallest point. See the picture that I uploaded. On the bright side, I did get a good amount of mochi balls. Their mochi is pretty chewy and doesn't seem quite as fresh as other places.
They have the usual fro-yo toppings: fresh fruit, mochi balls, and cereal. They also carry Dreyer's ice cream. The shop looks old and doesn't have that same modern, clean look of new tart fro-yo shops that trendy fro-yo girls prefer. $5 minimum for credit cards.
You know you love me. X0 X0 fro-yo girl
Friends of The Girl own this place. They just opened up but as of right now they are closed for renovation before there grand opening. I hope they do well, but I wonder with Gelayo Gusto around the corner and the new Yogurberry opening down the street. We got some free samples, but I shall not let that sway my vote here. The yogurt was tasty, but as someone mentioned earlier it is a bit coarse. Some people like that, but I think thanks to pinkberry we're used to a smooth, slightly tart yogurt.
I'd come here again, but with the existence of Gelayo Gusto it makes it hard. I think the fruit here is SLIGHTLY more fresh than Gelayo, but they don't seem to put as much into it. It's also a bit cheaper too, but right now for the value, I feel that Gelayo is slightly better.
Finally, I found a yogurt place close to my work. I'd like to thank Deb N. for reviewing this place, that's how I found out about it.
After having lunch at Ryowa, I decided to walk to Yogurt Fantasy with my wife to walk off our meal. It's a slightly longer walk than I thought, but it was good for both of us anyway. Plus it built up our appetites for dessert.
This place has the tart yogurt like all the other places I've reviewed (ex: Fraiche), but it tasted more yogurt-y than the others. The girl* there came out and talked to us and explained that their mixture is acutally yogurt unlike the other powder mixes. Ah, I guess I have pretty good taste buds.
I * girl because i don't know what to call her. What do you call someone around your age? I wouldn't call her "woman" because that makes her sound much older than me. I actually feel weird calling her a "girl" because to some that implies younger. Some are offended by "chick" (understandable) and "female" sounds too military / proper. I'm not cool enough to call her a 'shorty' (plus she's as tall as me, rare in asian girls). Oh well, I'll just settle for girl.
Anyway, it was nice chatting with her (she's pretty too, so you single guys enjoy) I got to sample the blueberry yogurt. It tasted pretty good. I also bought the regular size tart yogurt with mochi and lychee. That's a pretty good combo.
She did ask for ideas, and I didn't really have any for her at the moment. I was looking into her dreamy eyes. haha just kidding kathy. anyway, i suppose if i was in charge, I would invest in your interior (make it either high class/upscale or a cool young atmosphere) It is near the end of Castro street so you'll need to differentiate your location as well as your product. the inside feels like a baskin robbin, you need to 'make it your own.' Thank you American Idol for that phrase.
The service was great (we should have gotten the name of the guy who served us because he was a great sport for us cheap Asians), but the yogurt was atrociously bad and a disgrace to tart yogurt stores everywhere.
I couldn't even finish the sample of the original tart nonfat that I was given, it was that bad...the taste was artificial and nasty. As for the mango, it was barely passable, but definitely wasn't tart enough.
Seriously, I really felt like I needed something to wash out the yogurt taste afterwards. Sigh...
So, I would have given this place 0 stars if I could, but since the service was good I added 1 star.
Went at 1pm on Tuesday, street parking is cruddie at that time of day. There is a parking lot in the back.
Ordered the large yogurt of tart original yogurt and mango which was tart too. I liked the smoothness of the yogurts, the mango was creamier then the original. I added lychees, which I have not seen before and mochi bits. Only given 3 lychee halves, they were good sized and a pretty decent amount mochi. Came out to $7.29.
I like the creamier consistancy of this yogurt on the tart original a little more then the iceness of Gelayo Gusto but I like the tartness of Gelayo Gusto more http://www.yelp.com/bi... and Trendy Bean Cafe, http://www.yelp.com/bi... So it is a toss up for me on which I like better. Yogurt is pretty expensive here.
Refreshing my mind and recessing my body from work, on a nice sunny day, I spent my nibble-break walking around the lively Castro St. and I ran into this Frozen Yogurt place for a quick brain-freeze treat before I hit back to my temporary office nearby.
This frozen yogurt place couldn't be in a better location. Where restaurants and other businesses resides, it's one of few spots where you get your desserts and other tasty treat. I was just inform that ownership has changed within the last few months and I thought I would do my best and be one of their loyal fans.
I landed here and got a combination small cup of Mango flavor and the neutral Tart flavor frozen yogurt. The $3.50 treat comes with one topping of any available sort, and I got slices of kiwi on top of my treat. Despite not being the fro-yo connoisseur unlike some frequent people, I thought the treat was ok. The tart flavored one is indeed very tart. And with the sweet tropical mango flavor, the two mixed in well.
I also got an added bonus at no charge. With me, not knowing the city of Mountain View all that well, one of the friendly owner chatted with me and offers a few suggested places to hang out after work. My theory indicates that new ownership would like to start a business on a positive note.
I guess if you are really craving yogurt you can go here. However, if you're not too ridiculously lazy, you can still get your fix at Gelayo Gusto around the corner. This place used to be a TCBY, but I it went out of business. So yeah, here's yet another yogurt place feeding off the trend started by Pinkberry and Red Mango in LA.
Honestly, yogurt shops are going to be just like bubble tea shops. They'll spring up everywhere and people will have their favorites and go their religiously. Anyhow, back to the yogurt... I tend to like the plain tart yogurt with fruit and this place didn't deliver. The yogurt was icy/frosty and the fruit was still frozen when I was served.... not the best experience I've had.
I guess I'll give it another shot at some point since I study at Le Boulanger (next door) a lot.
i really like 2 of their YUMMY flavors, regular Tart and Mango Tart frozen yogurt. I think it's supposed to be similar to Pinkberry's down in L.A.
They also have a nice selection of regular scooped ice cream. Strawberry Cheesecake by Dreyer's is my favorite!
They also have great toppings like fresh fruit and mochi.
They are under new management now so watch it transform in the near future! It's going to be a great place to hang out with friends.
This yogurt is kinda WEIRDDDDDD! You take one bite...and it's ok; you take another bite...and it's hella nasty; another bite..and it tastes like freezer burns; another bite...and it kinda grows on you.
The texture is creamy - not icy. It's not tart - but it's kinda sour like spoiled milk. Once the yogurt starts to melt..it has the freezer burn taste. I think they tried to add the pinkberry flair..but it's not working.
Yah...i'm kinda not feeling it. It's definitely tasting like spoiled milk right now. $3.30 for a small - kinda pricey. The employee is hella nice tho!
Don't waste your time stella!
Got Pinkberry? Nope - Yogurt Fantasy!!
My husband and I recently discovered the nonfat frozen TART yogurt here. It is YUMMY!!! We recently moved up from Los Angeles and sadly had to do without my favorite dessert -- Pinkberry Yogurt. (For those who don't know what this is, it's yogurt with a tangy aftertaste -- the way yogurt is supposed to taste.)
The nonfat tart yogurt here isn't as cold as Pinkberry's yogurt, but it's got the great tangy aftertaste that we love. We also love to add strawberry topping and it just makes the whole dessert delicious! (One thing though, for some reason the strawberries are HUGE and it's difficult to eat the strawberry topping when the fruits aren't cut down to a more normal size. This is just a minor gripe though and we still love this place.)
Yogurt fantasy will be seeing more of us! :)
So happy, just had the tart yogurt with fresh blueberries and granola toping for an afternoon snack. This was my second time there and I took the recommendation from Mel, one of the new owners, who had today and previously suggested the tart yogurt. (Last time had the chocolate mousse yogurt and liked that too.)
Mel pointed out that they had added more new topings and fresh fruit, which today was strawberries, blueberries, mango, lychee, and kiwi. Everything looked really good and I must say that was an amazing snack. Def. going back again soon.
A great place to stop for frozen yogurt and ice cream in downtown Mountain View. There is a nice selection of Dryer's ice cream, as well as frozen yogurt, including tart and mango tart (like pinkberry).
They also have a nice selection of fresh fruit and candy toppings, as well as little mochi-like gummy bits that I absolutely loved and highly recommended. If you ask nicely you can also get yogurt and ice cream in your cup, if you can't decide between the two.
They also have mini Reese's pieces here, which I haven't seen anywhere before but go really nicely with the chocolate mousse frozen yogurt. The service is friendly and quick. I understand they're under new management and making some changes, so if you haven't been here in a few months, you should check it out.
They also have deals sometimes on Tuesday nights, so it doesn't hurt to ask about that too.
Dear Yogurt Fantasy, I heart your yogurt sooo much! Please please please refill your toppings. Especially the almonds. They were a bit stale the last couple of times. That aside, love the remodel, the bubbly-sweet employees, and the location is brillz...
We stopped by this place on the way to get some Starbucks on Castro. I heard "NorCal Pink Berry" being tossed around before, but honestly, I wouldn't know the difference.
What I do know is that the shop-suggested Tart frozen yogurt with real lychee on top was pretty tasty and definitely a refreshing change of pace from your typical American ice cream fare.
EDIT: Okay, so I've been to Pinkberry now. The two places' yogurt is somewhat similar, but definitely not the same. Pinkberry has more of a lemony flavor to it (even in their Green Tea version). Both have some tartness to it, but Yogurt Fantasy's Tart doesn't really taste like any particular kind of fruit. I like Pinkberry's yogurt a little more. However, the topping variety and quality is better here, imo. Review remains at 4 stars.
Walked by this place recently and decided to compare it with where we normally go.
Ordered a regular tart yogurt with blueberries.
- The tart yogurt was slightly tart though a little icy. 3 out of 5.
- The blueberries were not fresh, they tasted like they had been frozen before and defrosted. There may have been one in the bunch that tasted fresh. 1 out of 5.
(1+3) / 2 = 2 out of 5 rating
We prefer Gelayo Gusto around the corner.
this place is no where like pinkberry or the pinkberry knock-offs.
i sampled the tart (non fat) flavor and it was sub-par. it didn't even taste like yogurt or frozen yogurt. i'd stick with the dreyers ice cream here or pass altogether.
Had ice cream for Sunday breakfast here. Newly opened, spacious, and clean. They serve Dreyer's ice cream, frozen yogurt, milkshakes, sundaes. I single scooped it for a small size of the mocha almond fudge for $3.29. Had a taste of the peanut butter ice cream - super sweet. Swirly chocolate and raspberry frozen yogurt was coolly refreshing. Generous single scoops for the hard ice cream but wish they had more flavor selection . . .
You know I can't say its great cause the yogurt was just sort of bland. Not very tart or really flavorful. But the cool part of what I did like about this place was something small but seemed to make all the difference. Normally at places like this, they give you a cup of yogurt and put fruit on top. This place, cupped out the center, put the fruit inside and then covered it back with the yogurt. Sort of made a little safe full of fruit. Sort of caused the fruit to be super chilled. The fruit was better than others though, so I would come back. However again if I'm this close to Gelayo Gusto ... I would rather go there.
The service was nice and polite. We tried the yogurt. There aren't many choices for toppings, mostly candy, no fresh fruit. After moving here from Pasadena, this is no 21 Flavors, it's more like the Tasti D-Lite you find in New York City. On the side, they accidently overcharged our yogurt as ice cream.
