I am a frozen yogurt junkie. This place is the first I've ever had the pleasure of tasting the orgasmic taste of it. Other places have come close to topping it but not yet.
Everytime I visit, the employees are so ridiculously nice I get jealous that they enjoy their job so much. The flavors and quality are honestly top notch. And their prices are awesome! So cheap and I love it being self serve. Went to golden spoon last month and got the tiny size and ended up paying more there than if i had gotten a huge cup and filled it to the top and then some at yogurt Express.
Yesterday was my first time having carrot cake. omg. omg. omg.
I'm still convinced that they grind up carrot cakes in the back because nothing can taste that much like the actual thing.
I can feel my addiction growing. Ill prolly be back there today!
What the hell was I thinking! I was so missing out! That's what I get for being faithful to another chain for so long. I decided to stray a little over a week ago, only because my place had closed and I was in dire need of a fix.
Well what do you know..this place's ghirardelli chocolate frozen yogurt (which they have everyday) is the best damn chocolate yogurt I have had anywhere!
You take your first lick and that oh so yummy chocolate makes your saliva glands react (you know the feeling). Wow, the thing that blows me away is that this yogurt actually tastes like real chocolate.
In the time I've discovered this place with this fabulous choco yogurt I've gone every night except three.
They take credit card, bonus: show your student id for a discount and they have a frequent buyer card.
Note: watch out in the parking lot, tiny and always invaded by idiot drivers who don't know to look back before going in reverse!
I just found out about Yogurt Express on Yelp, and OMG i've been missing out.
The yogurts were all so yummy. I loved the strawberry and the cake mix. and i loved that they have the diet friendly Wow Cow flavors, with 40 calories for 4 ounces. I will definitely be back for those. I cannot believe the yogurt was only 24 cents an ounce, that's the cheapest I've ever seen.
I will be back ASAP (probably tomorrow)
*the only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 was that they don't carry and tart flavors :( or fresh fruit :(
If your mom owned a yogurt shop down the street, this would be it. The owner of this little joint is as good as it gets: Just like Mom. She's there every night making sure everything runs smoothly and her customers are as happy as kiddo's.
If you're a student, it's only 24 cents an ounce or you can just print of a coupon online. OR (my favorite thing to do) you can bring in any competitors 2 for 1 coupon and literally get two for the price of one. My hubby and I have always gotten generous servings and never paid more than $4 total! Now that's a steal!
You serve your own yogurt and pile on any as many or as little toppings as you like. They even change some of the flavors, which you can find on their website (http://yogurtexpress.net). My favorite is the peanut butter...mmmm! No, they don't have tart or fruit...just like Yogurt Mill. Yet, unlike Yogurt Mill, you never wait 45 minutes and it's always cheap. No one does it like Mom!
This the cheapest place to get fro yo in all of SD! The flavors are kinda limited but it's still enough, you'll find something you like! Promise!
Helloooooooooooooooo loverrrrrrrrrr
Is what I said to my blueberry Wow Cow fro yo cone this afternoon after work.
Other fave flavors: BANANA, Marshmallow, Angel Food Cake, Cookies and Cream (the best I've had at any fro yo place) and the PB is delicious.
Minus one for not having the one topping that I've recently become addicted to... mochi balls.
I love that they'll take my Yogurt Mill coupons (buy one get one free) or if I forget that I get a student discount. They take Visa, but no Amex. Also, they stamp a card. So every tenth time you get a free one. So when you need your fix and can't rally a friend up to going with you last minute a free fro yo awaits you! mmmmmm
VERY affordable, lots of toppings. If you eat too much, it will give you a stomach ache which is easy to do because you can vet a huge serving for just $4.
Parking can be a bit of a pain.
I love Yogurt Express! I had always noticed it, driving to and from the gym, and how busy it was whenever. My friends and I decided to try it one December night, and it was fabulous! They have the flavors for the week up on a white board, each flavor with it's own colorful picture, and it is self serve. The most I have piled on has never added up to be more than the smallest Cold Stone. Now I go to Yogurt Express, or YE as I refer to it, about once a week. My friends and I go every Monday after class. But a lot of times, I'll check the online calendar for flavors to see when they have something that I absolutely need and I'll go then, too! If you haven't tried YE, you're missing out!
This is the best yogurt in California!
You pay by weight (24 cents/ oz) and if you have ANY competitors coupon, it's 50% off. You can not beat that deal. Try the peanut butter yogurt with crushed peanuts and chocolate jimmies...delicious.
Make sure that you say hello to Jackie, ie: the yogurt lady.
Their flavors change daily. They always have peanut butter, chocolate, vanilla, and they have one sugar free and 2 wow-cow flavors daily along with 2 other daily flavors.
All of the yogurt is fat free.
I usually write long reviews describing places in detail..... But I mean, come on...no need here. It's frozen yogurt - DAMN good frozen yogurt. You have all the toppings you could want; along with all the great flavors you could want (that they change up frequently).
With that said. I can finally get to the point.
THE PEANUT BUTTER YOGURT IS THE BEST YOGURT I'VE EVER HAD, EVER.........
EVER.
*Salivates*
Peach, Coconut, and Raspberry... YUM!
I swear one time I went with my co-worker they had cheesecake bites too.. but we haven't seen them again after that one day.
Our office moved further away and we still go. People are usually nice. Only bad time is right after school gets out.. then all the kids from the elementary school nearby are going crazy in there.
Good quality, unbeatable price (I sound like a car commercial)
This place is the spot for SDSU coeds and local kids. It's unbelievably cheap and good quality. I got Peanut Butter with Peanut M&M's and a whole lot of it for $3 bucks! Normally these yogurt places make my stomach cramp (ie. Golden Spoon) but this didn't! Wow.
If I'm ever in the college area again, I'll be back for sure.
My daughter and I are crazy about this place. A great place to go to when I want something ice-creamy without the guilt.
I really like the self-serve because, let;s face it. it;s always great to get exactly what you want.
The service there can be a little spotty. (the kids that work there can get distracted.) But it's not a deal beaker.
I'll be back; my punch card is almost full again!
CHEAP!!
23c/oz compared to Yogurt World's 38 or 39c/oz. No Asian flavors like tart though, just things like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc...it was pretty good though and had a thick consistency. Toppings are the usual and I was sad they didn't have mochi :(
This place has been around for forever. I remember going here after sports games on the weekends back in kindergarten and gradeschool. I visited again recently and they are still very good. The chocolate was the best chocolate yogurt in the area, very thick and creamy. PLUS, this place has coupons! great deal for inexpensive yogurt!
Great yogurt, great prices and great staff. Love the WowCow flavors and appreciate the yogurt is always prepared. Plus, it is the best price around town!
In collge my roommates and I had it down to a science to leave home after Friends, get to Yogurt Express, get our frozen yogurt and make it back to plop down in front of the couch by the time Will & Grace started.
Now that I'm a little further away from this wonderful yogurt shop I don't go as often, but when I do go (usually after my dentist appointment next door or after a hike up Cowles Mountain, which yogurt totally defeats the purpose of both), I fall in love with the place all over.
I don't think I've ever spent more than $3 for frozen yogurt (except the time my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I got a larger serving than normal) and am almost always granted the student discount. I also love that they have the frequent buyer card that earns you a free yogurt.
Toppings are always fresh and in good supply. Flavors are nearly always working and pumping out the good stuff.
Seriously this yogurt place is as good as it gets. 23 cents an ounce plus a 25% student discount, newly redone interior, great flavors and toppings....the list goes on and on and on.
The staff is extremely friendly and they do an awesome job with keeping the place neat. They are also receptive to suggestions and criticisms.
They do not do tart yogurt, but only because it doesn't sell well and they don't have a unit that can adequately store Cheesecake bits. Other than that this place is perfect! Flavors are posted online along with coupons for those who are not students (or can't pass for one). Roasted Almond, Cake mix and Butterfinger (with real pieces of Butterfinger) are my favorites.
Be sure to grab a stamp card your eleventh yogurt (which you will likely return for) is free!
I was craving frozen yogurt all day long- I didn't even care where I got it from! Both Sam's Club and Costco were closed by the time my boyfriend and I got there at 6:10 PM and 6:20 PM, and I was getting more and more upset by the minute while my cravings were getting stronger and stronger!
Finally, my bf researched on YELP and came across this place =] Not only is it open until 11 PM, but it is VERY cheap at 23 cents an ounce (with a coupon or student ID)! I saved $0.90 last night with the coupon! Not to mention, they have little sample cups on the side so you can serve yourself samples. I was so excited- I tried almost everything (and pretty much satisfied my cravings, but it would've been messed up to not buy anything!). My bf bought me a medium cup filled with Thin Mint, Boysenberry, and Strawberry flavors. He ended paying only $2.70 (At Golden Spoon, you definitely would have needed to pay $3.50 or more for that amount, especially since GS keeps raising their prices and serves less and less as each year passes by). The employees at Yogurt Express are very friendly, too.
The only con: It's a little far. But I will definitely be back!
So far, of all my experience of frozen yogurt-ing, this is the place to go for frozen yogurt. And the main reason is the price.
I usually expect to pay around $5 for a full container of yogurt at other places like NuYo or Yog-art, but doing that at Yogurt Express cost me only $2! With my student ID, of course.
The guy working there even let us sample whatever we wanted so I just tried out pretty much everything. Most places are pretty stingy with allowing samples. My favorite flavor was the boysenberry.
The one thing I wish they had here were more "cold toppings". They have all kinds of "dry toppings" (nuts, candy, cereal, etc), but I was hoping they'd have more fruits or mochi or coconut jelly. But I really can't complain, since I hardly had to pay anything for it.
Next time I'm just going to get the large cup and fill it up all the way now that I know how cheap it turned out to be for 23 cents/oz.
I say go here if you don't want to drive all the way up to Kearny Mesa or break your wallet.
-K
I love this place! I found out about it from a family friend and when I was in college at SDSU, my sorority friends and I would go all the time. I couldn't get enough of it. The price is excellent. I love that I can mix in my own ingredients and have a different ice cream every time. My first job was at a Coldstone and I loved mixing in different ingredients each time. After I quit, I was not going to pay the $3 for a small ice cream with one mix it. I was so excited when I went to this place. My fiance recently told me we need to go back because it is fun! You're missing out if you have never been there before!
I love this place! They change up the flavors, all the time. And aside from Rocky's out by Kearny Mesa this is a true hot spot! It's really cheap once you get the card, and if you are a high school student or college student you also get a discount, which is always WAY awesome! Its a small place and get crammed with a rush. You create your own custom yogurt creation, add what you want get what size you want, but know that you are paying by weight and that is where it can get expensive.
I have tried a few self serve yogurt places, and by far this one wins me. The people the run the place are pretty nice also. Parking is the downside, its in a small shopping area. But worth the hassle for me.
Good, Cheap, Clean, and Yummy.
My favorite flavor is Cake Mix and I love all of the layers and topping options. I go with a friend and we sit there afterwards and explain our reasons for the flavor decisions we made and the order. We are total dorks and I don't care. Go there and have fun, it's always busy.
You know when you get off a long day of work and crave a tall beer or a good glass of wine?? Well I get off work and crave a nice big cup of frozen yogurt, so Yogurt Express here i come! I leave La Jolla and bee-line it to Yogurt Express (passing by a billion yogurt places in between). MMMMMM. Can't beat the constantly changing flavors and the great toppings. Everyone in there is so friendly too!
My favorite things about Yogurt Express:
1. the price -23 CENTS AN OUNCE?!?! (that really gets me there - every other place is pushing 40 cents an ounce for yogurt that costs pennies!)
2. they change the flavors almost daily - AND they list the flavors of the day online!
What more could a yogurt girl want?!? I just wish it was closer to my house... although it it TOTALLY worth the trip :)
Good, cheap yogurt. That about sums it up. Nothing really remarkable going on here, aside from low prices. Limited flavors, run of the mill toppings, but did I mention it was cheap?
For those who go 3 times a week, this place is a God send. For those with more discriminating palates, there are better choices available (Crave - right down the street, Pink Berry - Gaslamp, Yogurt World - Mission Valley).
Dear Yogurt Express
First off I couldn't believe how inexpensive your yogurt is. This is even with the candy bar crunches that weigh your yogurt down another %. I love the fact that students receive an additional 25%.
Now on to your flavors, I was watching my waistline recently and noticed that your Wow-Cow has about 40 calories/serving. I would have never known it was sugar free if it hadn't been for the posting above the flavor. Now that I am back in business and eating big I love the Angel Food Cake as well as Snickers and Ghiardelli chocolate. The thing here is all your flavors are better than frozen yogurt. I just wish I knew the extra additive that is mixed in to make it so good.
I also love the fact that Yogurt Express is also no-nonsense. I downloaded my own yogurt so easily so I didn't have to worry about someone doing it for me. This also worked well for sampling because I could go at my own pace and try all eight. Oh, by the way sorry Yogurt Express for looking like such a pig, however, I did end up buying 7 mediums with topping.
Yogurt Express you added a little kick to my walk as I exited your place. Thank you for being so nice, clean and welcoming and I will always be returning.
XOXO
amazing little frozen yogurt shop. it's exactly everything [and more!!] i want in a neighborhood frozen yogurt shop. no fancy frills and pretty lights. just a few fro yo machines and a ton of good toppings, plus very nice people who weigh your goodies.
oh, and it's amazingly cheap. 24 cents an ounce?! even cheaper if you have a college id?! what is this madness!?!?
two words: cookies + cream.
best. flavor. ever.
In addition to being ludicrously delicious, yogurt express is affordable, friendly, clean and open pretty late. before the yogurt-flavor-of-the-day calendar i just had to take my chances. would it be a cookies and cream sort of day, or not? now i don't even have to be lucky, just on schedule. i guess if the C&C just isn't your style you could try their other delicious flaors, ghiradelli chocolate anyone? ooh crap, i think i just drooled a little bit.
yogurt express you rock.
Mmmmmm..... Yogurt Express. Freaking delicious MYO yogurt with an impressive selection of toppings and flavors. Usually crowded but you can pay quickly; never a line at the register.
Sticky floor with a dash of East County. But freaking delicious. And the women that run the joint are always way nice.
With the revolving door of frozen yogurt houses in these recent years, I can truly see how Yogurt Express has endured since the dinosaur's roamed the earth. Put it on your list as one of the "East County Gems."
I have been coming here since I was about 10 and it never gets old pulling the old trustworthy frequent buyer card out for a good stamping. Ahh, that much closer to a free yogurt! The flavors are awesome- Angel Food Cake is one the the favs, it's cheap cheap cheap, and the people behind the counter are super friendly AND you get a student discount. Bliss.
Very yummy! Awesome toppings and definately priced the way yogurt should be. Blows any yogurt place in la mesa out of the water
It's ok.. not very much selection to choose from and the yogurt wasn't as creamy as I expected it to be like yogurtlands.
I found myself within a mile of Yogurt Express this afternoon, and based on all the yelpiness it's had going on, figured I had to try it.
YIKES.
This is easy.
This is fun.
This is CHEAP.
This is pretty good yogurt, too.
I wasn't all that big on the frozen yogurt thing when it was all huge in the early 80's, but this time I find myself kinda getting into it. But I refuse to say fro yo...I'm just not nearly that cool.
Tiny place and virtually no atmosphere, but I was pretty much expecting that. Friendly staff, and they accept credit cards with no minimum - always a plus.
WAY affordable, as others have said. I had four bucks cash, left my wallet in the car and grabbed my card instead since I was hungry and also knew I wanted a bottle of water. Imagine my surprise - a medium cup of yogurt with oreos AND a bottle of water (not a tiny Costco bottle either - a real bottle) for $3.47! And I got a punch card which I will promptly lose and a 20% card that's good til the end of the year, which I will try to keep track of.
Mmmm...Yogurt Express. I see myself doing the tapping thing with my cup in the future...
Thanks Yelperoonies!... For helping me locate this gem. I stumbled upon Yogurt Express as I was writing a review. I was surprised at the that over 35 reviews yielded a 4.5 star rating. I had no choice but to check it out.
This was my first experience with frozen yogurt; "froyo" as many of you call it. I'm an ice cream lover by heart but I can tell you... I have fallen in love with froyo thanks to Yogurt Express. This place is great. They had 8 flavors on tap. I really liked the fact that you could take as long as you want when taste testing all the flavors. Me being a froyo newbie, I had a great experience.
Since I am trying to lower my calorie intake, froyo is a great substitute for ice cream. The calories and fat of froyo are really low. The Wow-Cow flavors are only 40ish calories per serving. All the flavor are awesome. Of course my fav has to be ghirardelli chocolate. The angel food vanilla is so good too.
I'm coming back here soon. Everyday, they change a few of the flavors so you will not get bored of the same old thing. To top it all off, there are many many fresh toppings for your froyo. The nana granola topping... uhhhh (bliss expression) damn, I just can't stop thinking of this place.
Thank you Yogurt Express! You've made a froyo lover out of me =)
I felt like eating frozen yogurt. "We must have a yogurt place somewhere in La Mesa," I thought. Duh, check Yelp. After reading reviews for a few other places, this one won because of the self-serve/pay by weight thing. That way, it would be impossible to go home crying because "obviously the girl working there liked my brother more than me because she gave him more," which frequently happens at Coldstone.
The first time I went I got....everything? I was a bit overzealous with the freedom of toppings. I'm used to paying per topping, so I usually only get 1. Now I could get all of them? It was hard to hold myself back. Still, I found myself in the car thinking "why didn't I get the rainbow sprinkles and try the carob chips too?" Next time, Yogurt Express. I'll be back for a third round.
Oh, but the Cookies & Cream flavor tasted like lotion. My brother & sister disagreed...I guess we eat different lotions.
Fro-Yo! This place is your standard self-serve frozen yogurt joint with a row of toppings to choose from. The reason I love coming here is that it's cheap! Plus you get a student discount!
I'm not usually a huge fan of sweet (vs. tart) frozen yogurt, but this place has the potential to turn me around.
My friend took me here for the first time and damn... self-serve, an abundance of toppings (easily 25+ choices), and so inexpensive I almost wept for joy. We got two medium-sized cups, probably 3/4 full of yogurt and a generous selection of topings, and with my friend's discount card it was less than five bucks for BOTH OF US. Hot damn. I'm lucky if I spend $4 on myself for the same amount of yogurt at Yogurt World on Convoy, my usual froyo haunt of choice.
They don't appear to offer tart flavours, but the sweet flavours I sampled at Yogurt Express were subtly so, not sugary in an overwhelming fake ice cream sort of way. But really, bottom-line, you just can't beat the value for money.
My first time here was right after they had opened in the morning. The place was empty, of course, besides me and the cashier, so I was able to browse the yogurt and toppings without the throngs of students that are known to frequent this location.
Although the selection is not as vast as Baskin Robbin's 31 flavors, the ones that are offered hit the spot. Those flavors include, but are not limited to, classic Vanilla, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and an Angel Food Cake option. They even offer frozen dessert options that are low in calories and sugar, and still taste great!
The toppings are nothing out of the ordinary, but very abundant (oreos, graham crackers, gummy bears, peanuts, walnuts, sprinkles..). You're likely to find something to throw on top of your yogurt, no doubt.
If I'm having a lousy day, and someone were to bring me a cup of Yogurt Express's frozen yogurt, I'd definitely have a smile on my face. Delicious.
Next time, I'm going to come at night and see what the experience is like with the crazy college kids.
When I walked in, I noticed a sticker saying something like "yelpers love us" and now I can see why. This place gets 5 stars for the value and taste. No, the selection is not as good as Golden Spoon or Yogurtland but the few flavors they have are great, especially cake mix. I got a medium cup of cake mix and packed it with oreos and it cost less than three dollars, that is using a student ID to get the 25% discount. That is insanely cheap for so much yogurt. A usual cup from yogurtland will at least run you $5. The only downside to this place is that there is no where to sit and eat, so you'll probably be stuck eating it in your car. This is the perfect place to satisfy your late night sweet tooth and you can probably have enough loose change in your car to pay for it.
I have been going to this place for a while now. The prices are very reasonable, and if you are a student, you get a discount. Love that you can serve yourself (no need for getting way too much, or not enough). They have a good range of flavors and toppings. Can't go wrong.
