Yogacrush alert...Jenn W's vinyasa class was amazing.  I have been trying to find my yoga focus by trying several different styles with many studios throughout the country...ashtanga, hatha flow, power yoga and enjoyed all, however Jenn W's vinyasa style left me feeling intrigued, challenged, inspired, and ready for some of those poses I was intimidated by.
The studio was large and quickly filled with yoginas and a few yogis.  I was located in the middle of the room between an expecting lady and the most flexible person ever I found that they in a way gave me support to try more, do more, be more.
I am anticipating my next business trip to Austin so I can frequent this class again.

Namaste!

I've had unlimited class at Yoga Yoga now for about 2 months, so I figure I've experienced enough to write a review.
I've mainly gone to the Star classes, meant for beginners. They offer a lot of classes at fairly convenient times. I do wish their beginner series classes were offered earlier than 7:30 pm, though. I'd like to try one.

The Ashtanga Star classes are really challenging (I'm covered in sweat by the end).  Hatha feels easier, but it's really just more relaxing overall- it has its challenging moments too. I haven't tried Kundalini or Hatha Flow yet.
I've generally enjoyed every class and feel like I've learned something new in each one. Yoga Yoga feels really comfortable, the staff and other members are friendly, and it smells wonderful in there. I suppose it's the tea, which is very yummy.

Overall, Yoga Yoga has been really amazing in helping me feel more calm and centered throughout the day. The mind-body connection, rather than just being about getting some exercise, has really influenced me positively. I've started reading more about yoga and meditation and eating healthier. I've also started going to classes at least 4 times a week, just because it makes me feel awesome afterwards. I'd say that I'm quickly becoming a convert.

I used to love YogaYoga, but that was before I discovered other studios.   When some of my favorite teachers left this summer, I decided to branch out.  I did not like how YogaYoga responded to my inquiry of why these teachers left.  I've tried a lot of classes here and find it's hit or miss.  While there were and are still some good teachers at YogaYoga, I have now found my yoga home elsewhere and am glad I was forced to branch out as there are some beautiful studios and very skillful teachers elsewhere in this city.

I did prenatal Yoga here and it was great! It helped out alot durring my pregnancy. I recomend it to any pregnant person. My teacher was Alice and she is wonderful! Before you start everyone says their name, what week they are at and if anything hurts or is out of place. While she directs you throught the class she tells the people that should do it a different way because of the pain they are having.  She is great! I love the Chai we get afterwards. I always felt soooo good afterward!!!!

I love going to Yoga Yoga. All the studios are beautiful especially their new one they open on 360. I rather do yoga at a studio than doing yoga at a gym. To me the instructors here at Yoga Yoga are very knowledgeable and passionate about the teaching and philosophy of Yoga. I have taken classes with numerous yoga instructors here. I really love the classes taught by Wayo, Ana Pilar, Everitt and Angie.

If you are a beginner, I highly recommend taking a Hatha beginner series class with Ana Pilar because she has a great sense of humor and is very knowledgeable.

By the way, the serve tea after you work out which is a major plus.

I was curious - and nervous - about yoga.  It had always sounded kind of appealing, but I guess I had a stereotyped image in my head of what yoga people were like.  And it was nothing like what I'm like.

Stereotypical yogi:  Long, lean, calm, zen, coordinated
Me:  Short-ish, not so lean, very anxious, a bit spastic, and not so coordinated

I heard about the Beginner's Series that Yoga Yoga offers through a friend.  There are a few different types of yoga offered through the Beginner's Series.  I took the Hatha course.  $99 for class twice a week for four weeks.  Sure it sounded like a good way to get exposed to yoga, but I was still nervous...are these REALLY beginners in the class?  Even if so, are they going to all fit my stereotypical yogi?  Will I be coordinated enough to handle these poses??  Hmmmmmm...

The Beginner's Series actually turned out to be really awesome and just what someone like me needed as an intro to yoga.  There were a few people with some yoga experience in the class, but by and large most had never done yoga before.  There were all sorts of people in the class - young and old, large and small, male and female.  ANYONE could be in a beginner's class so don't think you'll be out of place.

The instructors (Wayo was our main instructor and Aubrey was his main assistant) were great about explaining the poses and helping each student get into the poses correctly.  It was a very comfortable environment and I felt it was very easy to ask questions or ask for assistance.  The instructors really want it to be a good experience for you.

If there was one thing I didn't love about the class it would be that there was a little too much time (for my taste) spent EXPLAINING the yoga instead of DOING the yoga.  None of it was really touchy feely or new agey, but I would have preferred less yoga talk and more yoga action.

So...if you are considering yoga but have been intimidated by taking a yoga class, the Beginner's Series at Yoga Yoga is for you.  I'm really happy I tried it out.  I haven't stuck with the yoga as much as I'd like to since the class has been over, but I certainly feel that if I wanted to attend another beginner's class there, I'd be able to.

I just finished The Beginner Series a few weeks ago. I'm fairly new to the yoga practice and this was a good start. It was casual enough that we could ask questions and talk about things, but also yoga-y enough that we could get in the yoga zone.

There were all shapes, sizes, age and levels in the beginner series--some were brand-brand new, some just needed a refresher. It was a good range of people that I was always somewhere in between.

If you're gonna go, make sure you like your teacher. Things are flexible enough that you can go to another class if you want to.  Wayo was our instructor and I was totally in heart with him. He was a little spastic and crazy, but he really explained things in a way we could understand.  We had a sub a few times and I didn't like her as much, but other people may have. You gotta go with what works for you!

You can also buy "drop in" passes and go to any class you want (the * classes are good for beginners). Unfortunately, I didn't get to try other ones, but I am anxious to get my practice going for real.

I loved the tea afterwards. You simply must try it!

The front staff was helpful and friendly and were there to offer suggestions from what classes to take to what mats to buy.

Whether you're new to yoga or already have a good practice, I recommend Yoga Yoga to get it going.

Namaste.

UPDATE: I went here with a couple of other girlfriends visiting from out of town and had a great experience.  We took a hatha class wity Wayo, who was great.  I appreciated the fact that he demonstrated every pose before we jumped into it.  It made me understand what I should be getting out of it better.  I added a star because of him.

************************************************** **************************

This branch of Yoga Yoga is located in the Westgate Shopping Center, around the corner from Central Market.  You can do your book shopping at Borders, do your yoga class at Yoga Yoga and grab a healthy snack afterwards at Central Market.  Convenient!

I took a Hatha Flow class last Saturday with some girlfriends who were visiting from out of town.  We filled out the new member forms, plunked down the single class fee ($16), grabbed our mats and headed to the classroom.  The space is really nice: spacious, lots of natural light, clean and airy feeling.

The good things about this place ended there.

The instructor was not great.  She was snippy.  She reminded me of the drill sergeant Russian ballet teacher I never had.  At one point during class, the woman next to me whispered that she didn't understand the pose that we were supposed to be doing.  I whispered, "I think you lean back -" and the instructor barked "NO. You do NOT lean back".  Um, ew.

Also, the class was not as dynamic as I thought it would be.  I usually feel like a million bucks after a yoga class, be it hatha, vinyasa or ashtanga, but instead I felt kind of tired.  I was sorely disappointed.

Since I know that the quality of a yoga class greatly depends on the instructor, I am willing to go back again to give the other classes another try.  They should have a cheaper way to try the classes out at the studio.  The most affordable option is to purchase an 8 class pass for $99, which amounts to $12 and change a class.  Not bad, but not good for a place that isn't stellar either.  If anyone can recommend a great instructor here, I'm all ears.

The good:
Nice studios, no mirrors, lots and lots o' classes. Fab (overpriced) mats, bolsters and blankets and some other cool gifties. So many teachers that if you try enough, you WILL find one you like. Tea.

The bad:
People, take a good hard look at your business model, please. Poll your customers to find out what they are willing to pay for, pay your instructors (who you charged assloads of money for training) a living wage, and stop canceling my favorite classes with my favorite instructors. Do not charge more than the market will bear, and cut back on administrative staff if you're having a hard time hitting your numbers.

Also, please stop playing insipid, one-chord whispery synth music where some chick with a bad American accent is singing in what is supposed to be but bears no resemblance to Hindi. It really, really bugs.

Thank you.

To be honest with you, I really didn't want to like Yoga Yoga. It has always come across to me as the Yoga 'chain' in Austin. So, I got a gift certificate for a class for my birthday. Now, keep in mind, the only yoga I have done regularly is Bikram (as Camron R. puts it, 'you must be a masochist to get into this stuff', see Yogagroove review)

Anyway, I went in for a Hatha class. First of all, the main yoga room at this studio is REALLY nice. Lots of room and natural light. It's easy to forget that on the opposite side of the windows there is a shopping center. I really enjoyed the class, it was an excellent balance of strengthening and stretching, with just enough relaxation. After class, they serve Yogi tea that is amazing.

So I decided I would go back and take a restorative class. WTF? I guess some people are into this, or maybe I'm just not open minded enough for this, but I was a little irritated that I spent $16 to take a nap and have a cup of tea. We seriously only did 3 postures in the hour and fifteen minutes I was there, all of which involved laying down with blankets and boosters. And I admit, I almost giggled when the instructor said she was going to play the gong for us. It turned out to be nicer than I expected, since my only experience listening to someone play the gong was a drunk little Asian man banging it during Karaoke night at DK sushi.

There are several other classes I want to check out, so I will definitely be back, but you'll only find me at the more physically challenging classes.

Nice facility at Westgate that offers KUNDALINI! The best kind of yoga for Plastic man's alter ego, that focuses on breathing, emphasizing the "Breath of Fire" - a mind trip of short intense breaths out your nose for minutes at a time.

Great instructor, Christina (Nirinjan) not crazy about the carpet floors, nor the free-style dance they encourage you to do towards the end.

Other than that, they let you zone on the floor out after the workout, all tingly from the exercises, third eye all ablaze an' shit, and with the gong resonating, it's an experience.

This time is needed to slow the shit down and let the mind wander.

Tea and biscuits at the end, and a 30 second walk to Central Market to keep the clean living thing alive.

16 bucks a session, much cheaper if you try one of their package deals.

Many different types of yoga are taught here, but one of the very few in town that offers Kundalini.

Allison reminded me that I wanted to write a review of Yoga Yoga!

When I decided I wanted to try yoga a few years ago, a friend of mine and I signed up for the beginner's Hatha class at YY South. We went twice a week for four weeks and it was $99. In this series, we learned different breathing techniques and the fundamentals of poses, how to make the poses fit our needs using props like blocks and straps and blankets to get our bodies in the right position for the pose.

After these 8 classes, I moved on to regular Hatha classes. I kept up with it for a while actually, switching to the Westgate studio since it was closer to my house.

I can't say enough good things about Yoga Yoga. I've taken other classes at other studios and no one seems to match the thoroughness of Yoga Yoga and the explanations and help that the instructors give.

Unlike Allison though, I love the restorative class when I've been particularly "twisted" by stress and sleeping wrong. It is only 3 or 4 poses, but I find that I can get really deep into the stretch and relaxation and meditation that this class offers. It's not for everyone, but sometimes I need it if I'm on sensory overload.

My next venture at Yoga Yoga is to take the beginner's Ashtanga series and to try a Kundalini class as well. Yoga Yoga is really connected to the yoga community and offers many special sessions and visiting yogis and such as well. And oh yeah, the tea! It's fantastic!

I've been going to Yoga Yoga for two years now and it's the first time I've ever been able to stick with any exercise.  The spaces are very nice and everyone is always very friendly.  I love the number of classes that are offered as that allows me plenty of flexibility in attending classes.  The large number of classes also allows for a great variety of teachers.  I've skipped around to lots of different teachers and managed to find a number of them that fit with my learning style.  Jessica G, Angela D., Ana P., and Mandy are all fabulous and super helpful.  I have had some teachers that I didn't care for, but those teachers had their own fans, so I'm sure it's just different preferences.  If you only go once and don't enjoy your teacher, I recommend trying another one.  They are all different and vary in their focus, degree of spirituality, and amount of demonstrations.  If you're only interested in the occasional yoga class, then a gym that offers yoga may be a better fit.  I use the unlimited pass at Yoga Yoga and go often enough that each class works out to less than $10.

Yoga Yoga has a great studio space, with lots of natural light, that ultimately makes you forget that you're in a strip mall.

I took a hatha class ($16) and really enjoyed the experience despite the price tag.  The instructor was excellent, warm and friendly, and he really made me feel like he was giving everyone in the class some personal attention.  The class moved at a pretty good clip and I worked up some intense "inner-heat", but it was what I needed during the holiday season.

Unfortunately, the class was jam-packed and I was almost up against a wall.  It was a little distracting to be bumping into things and people during the class.
