I have been a student at Yoga Now for over a year and can say I am quite pleased with both the space as well as the instructors I have studied under.

Julia, Michael and Patricia are wonderful teachers who are both patient and committed to yoga.  As a student, you are always offered a path to improve yourself, but always at your own pace.  The depth of their personal study is as you would expect, a great bonus for the students.

They offer no judgments and encourage everyone to embrace the the practice that is right for them.

Can't say enough good things about my experience with the classes at Yoga Now.

As an aside:

The Community Class on Sunday is by far a different experience from the regularly scheduled classes and events at Yoga Now.  Since it is their way of giving back to the community, free class, it attracts a much larger following especially under our current economic conditions.  The classes size is substantially larger and as a result, a bit more chaotic and folks come and go during the instruction which can be distracting.  But at the end of the day, it is still the experience you choose to make of it.

While I will continue to take classes at Yoga Now with the instructors that I enjoy, I had some experiences over the past couple of days that have left a bad taste in my mouth.

1) The owner questioned my commitment and basically my integrity.

While I am the first to admit and own my shortcomings and periodic lack of follow through, I have never had a person that I have not met question my integrity.

2) Some woman (an instructor) named Patricia was rude to me and some other paying customers that were on time for our class while her class ran late.

Patricia- just because you say something and then place your hands in prayer position and then smile afterwards, it doesn't mean that you aren't rude!  Several people after the class discussed your behavior.  It might explain why you only had 1 student in your class.  Two words of advice- customer service!

You asked me and my friend to be quiet because you were finishing your class which ran late.  We were not speaking in "outside voices" and we didn't know what was going on.  Your class should have been OVER!!!  We were on time for our class.

You scolded the woman that went and got her mat before class.  She was in tears by the time Michael arrived because you were so rude to her.  It took Michael to calm her down and encourage her to stay.

Then you asked the lady that was just going to set her mat down to take her shoes off before she entered the studio.

Patricia- there are NO SIGNS in this studio that explain policies, procedures or rules for Yoga Now.  If you have never been to this studio or for that matter any yoga studio, people don't necessarily know yoga studio etiquette....and this is the first impression that you leave them with?  WELL DONE!  The only reason that I didn't update with 1 star is because of Michael, Zach, Julia and all of the work study ladies that make Yoga Now pleasant.  Patricia- your behavior is atrocious and unbecoming of anyone that practices yoga!

I came to Yoga Now after the owner, Amy, taught yoga at my gym.  I liked her style so much that I wanted to try her new (at that time) studio.

I came for a Sunday morning Mysore class.  Mysore is the Ashtanga Series done at your own pace.  I didn't have the entire series memorized but Amy was great; she gave me reminders and handed me flashcards of the poses so I could remember.  She also adjusted me in the poses, helping push me to my edge.  I enjoyed that her studio was no nonsense...no cliques and not alot of talking...just people who come for an individual practice and prefer to do so in a group setting.

Community Class Review ONLY

After reading all the great reviews for this class, I'm totally going to give it another shot and am only reviewing the god-awful Sunday Community Class, which, by the way, I won't ever be going to again.

Overcrowded. Most places cap their attendance when the class is comfortably full. They were letting people in and interrupting class at 20 minutes past start time! So on four different occasions, the entire class had to stop what they were doing and shift mats until we were all pretty much right on top of each other. However, we were not disrupted from yoga...the instructor was giving a lecture.

The 30 minute lecture. I wish they had put on their site that this community class was a vehicle for study...I at least would have been prepared for a discussion to take up the first half hour of class. Instead I was surprised by  the lecture on the intricate details of the traditional practice. Plus, the lecture was a train-of-thought, non-linear and just confusing. It's not that I don't want to know, but the instructor was so distracted and veered off on so many unrelated tangents, that it was distracting. And it really did go one for far too long and was way over a beginner's head.

The community class. When we finally got started it was a nice, semi-intense class. Towards the end though, it sort of veered off course and got chaotic. I understand that the class benefits a variety of levels, but  it was all over the place by the end of class. It just didn't seem like the instructor was able to lead a class designed for a variety of skill sets. She didn't give enough instruction for beginners and neglected the advanced folks.

The studio. Finally, the studio is pretty large but the whole place is all one room. Which means that you may be interrupting an ending class if you arrive early and you will definitely interrupt a class if you arrive late. And, if you are one of the three people in my class who didn't turn off your cell phone, you will be interrupted by all that noise.

So, I'll try again but only for a regular class and I really hope that they lock the door after class start time.

So many things about this place kept my practice from being a wonderful, uplifting experience - and that is a shame.

First off, I had no idea about the first class being free.  When I signed up on the website it does not indicate that, and my card was charged the $16.

Then, when I arrived, the fellow teaching the class was apparently new and a substitute for another instructor.  But when I walked in, other than the most rudimentary greeting, I had to figure out for myself what was going on, where to set up, etc.  No one seemed to notice or care this was my first time there and I was not spoken to after the first "hi". Then, at the end, during the "relaxation" segment, the next class came in making so much noise and commotion it was impossible to do anything except focus on them.  But I cant say it was entirely their fault, since there is no barrier between the main room and the entrance, and the sounds just echoed terribly throughout.

I guess I just feel that the whole point of me taking a class in public vs. my own yoga practice at home is to have the instructor offer tips and correct any posture mistakes.  And as I know I am no yoga master, I was a little concerned that he did not come over and make any adjustments nor extend any sort of verbal cue to me the whole time.  So basically I spent a little over an hour doing vinyasas I could have done at home and saved myself $16.

Sorry Yoga Now, I really, really wanted to give you a shot.  You are so super convenient to my work and i wanted this to be a worth-while experience.  But I have ended up just feeling sort of neglected and disappointed.

Michael McColly teaches here.  I have taken a couple of his writing classes and when I found out that he teaches yoga here, I jumped at the chance to take his Sunday morning class, which lasts from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

My first class was free (see, they get you hooked) and each one after that is $16, but you can buy punch cards at a discount.  For instance, they offer one card for $70 that is good for five classes.  Not bad!

I contorted and twisted my flexible limbs for an hour and a half doing a variety of yoga poses:  up dog, down dog, inverted triangle, child's pose, etc.  Every muscle felt so relaxed and fabulous afterward.

What surprised me the most about this class was the deep relaxation portion at the end.  This is not a favorite thing of mine.  It is not easy for me to "clear my mind."  It buzzes day and night.  3:30 a.m. has often found me sitting bolt upright, out of a dead sleep, remembering that I forgot to tell the dry cleaner about the stain on a blouse.   I digress.  But I actually relaxed.  The combination of the tone of his voice, the poem he read (Emily Dickenson--gotta love that), and the serene feeling in the room, allowed my mind to actually go blank for maybe 1/1000 of a second.  No small feat.

On paper, there is NOTHING wrong with yoga.  It keeps you flexible, effectively combats stress, and promotes all sorts of good things like deep breathing and world peace.

Alas, alas, alas...it has been hard to fall in love with yoga.  The studios look like nightclubs; everyone there is thinthinthin; and the teachers put you in positions no human body should technically be able to acheive.  Indeed, these factors do not bode well for a passionate love affair.

Yoga Now has happily negated all my bad experiences at other yoga studios and definitely opened me up to a more consistent and restorative practice.  The room is clean and simple, the classes mindfully curated for students and any and all levels, and the teachers looks like real people who, you know, eat food.

I attended a class for plus size women and absolutely loved it.  The teacher, Yoli, was tall and staturesque and wonderful, and the other women were a delightful range of ages and shapes.  For two rejuvenating hours we relaxed and breathed and stretched and it was truly, madly, deeply AAAAAAAALLLLLLLL GOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I definintely plan to be more active at Yoga Now and will absolutely be a deep breathing and world peace-ing regular at the community class on Sundays.

Wonderful yoga studio with great instructors. Each instructor has their own style, so it is worth taking a bunch of different classes to see which one is best for you. Their prices are definitely affordable ($220 for 20 sessions) and the studio is very convenient to public transit. If you want to try out the studio before you sign on for a bunch of classes, you can take their free community class on Sundays.

I'm new to yoga, but so far, my experience at Yoga Now has been a delight. It's such a quiet, welcoming space, and the instructor is wonderful. It's great for beginners, because the approach is very non-indimidating, and the instructor (Lorelei) gives full descriptions of each pose, as well as alternatives if you aren't up for the full pose. It's also very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend it.

I decided I was interested in taking a yoga class and not the class from Bally's where I was going to be packed in like a sardine with 30 other people, but someplace where I knew I would get good instruction and an instructor who would correct my poses if I was doing them wrong.  I decided on Yoga Now because of reviews on Yelp (although for the other location) and the proximity to my home.  I took the basic class because I am fairly new to yoga and really enjoyed it.  The class I took was early on a Saturday morning and it really relaxed me for the rest of the day.  I will be going back for that class and probably other more advanced classes eventually.  And oh yeah...the first class is free!

a diamond in the rough of calmness amidst a noisy, hectic stretch of edgewater. warm, soothing, and exactly what a yoga studio should be. the teachers are welcoming and the class sizes (with the exception of the very popular sunday community class) are small enough that you get individualized attention.  there was some concern that this location hasn't been seeing as much business as the downtown location, so i really hope they stay around!  the multi-session packages are a great deal and they let you use them at either location, for any class.
