Smaller than I expected... though this is supposedly life-sized. Heh heh.
You'll have to walk your bike up to it, the security guards take their roles seriously as resident Stormtroopers. One rolled out from the bushes and commanded me to walk my bike. -

Quite possibly one of my SF favorites, simple as it is.
It's not too busy if you want to check it out, but do avoid Sunday afternoons. -

"When you look at the dark side, careful you must be ... for the dark side looks back."
With words of wisdom like these, how can you not love admiring a life size statue of our boy Yoda just steps inside the Presidio?! If you give this anything less than 5 stars, you must be Satan. -

There is nothing cooler for a geek gal like myself than to find a zen place in San Francisco with Yoda looking over you. How cool is that?
Yes, Star Wars I love. Afraid to admit I am not. -

How do you write a review about a fountain? LOL
Boyfriend is a Star Wars buff, so on our bicycle ride from Golden Gate Park to Presido Park I thought I'd surprise him with this "attraction." Let's just say he went nuts! hahaha it was priceless :) -

I had no problem finding the fountain. Just enter the Presidio entrance from Lombard and turn at Letterman. Just drive up to the security guard and ask to see the Yoda fountain.
As everyone else said, it is 30 minute parking. If ILM is open, you can go in the lobby, look around, and take pictures of the book case, signs, and statues.
I tried to be as respectful as possible and got that in return. the receptionist was great but did tell me that I could only take pictures and tour the lobby. The rest of the building was off limits to general public. I told him I understood and asked if I could take pictures. He said, sure. I then thanked him.
The fountain, itself, is nice. But, what sets it apart is the surrounding. Here is Yoda in the midst of some beautiful and exotic plants and trees. The setting really is cool. Walking around the campus will reveal statues of various film makers and contributors of technology to the arts.
It is an amazing setting. I happened to roll in around lunch time, so the ILM and LucasArts magic makers were coming out on walks and smokes. I was surprised at how young that crowd was.
It's a great experience for a Star Wars geek, as I am. It's a must see if you are in the area. -

Kinda hard to write a review SOLELY about the fountain even though it is an AWESOME fountain!!! So I'll sneak in a review about ILM since I got a tour on Friday!!!
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I am a self-confessed Star Wars geek. Toured many parts of ILM with a VERY nice guy who offered my friend and I tour. Got to see some awesomely cool things. I have a broken ankle (and a pinched nerve from hobbling on the broken ankle) but that did not stop me from the tour and I was high on pure joy :)
Obviously as a non-employee, I see the place only as a giant factory of cool and fun. With pretty interior design and the best decorating job ever! Who wouldn't want a Han (or Jar Jar) in carbonite hanging on their wall?!?! But pretty sure even the most over-worked employees would have to admit they work in a really cool place :)
My husband and several friends asked when I was submitting my resume (I wish!!!) :)
And the views from inside are gorgeous - Golden Gate Bridge and Palace of Fine Arts. And on a blue sky sunshiny day (not always guaranteed in SF), the Yoda fountain sparkles :) -

Yoda rocks and he deserves to have his own fountain!
Be sure to check out the surrounding area. Walk straight down the path from the parking lot, instead of going left towards Yoda. You will see a statue of this film maker dude.
Behind the dude is an awesome view of the Palace of Fine Arts.
There is also a beautiful park area, with well kept lawns, trees, a creek and lake.
It's just sweet... Check it out!!! -

As a huge Star Wars fan I decided to make a pilgrimage to this fountain. It was slightly hidden, but easy to find and personally I think going on a quest to find it was more fun than if it were super easy to find. The surrounding area is very peaceful and quite. The whole LucasFilms area was very pretty. There was even a Starbucks nearby which was nice to visit on a typical cold foggy SF day.
Anyways, the fountain is pretty mush one of the coolest things I have seen in the city. I like how it's not well know because there aren't always a bunch of people around so it is quite and a little more private. When my friends and I got to the fountain I played the Star Wars theme as we revered in the awe of the fountain ( yeah I know, I'm such a nerd). I overheard a tour guide say that the Yoda on the fountain is a to scale replica of the Yoda from the original Star Wars movies.
Must see landmark for all Star Wars fans :) -

We found the Yoda statue!!!!!!
Very hidden.... don't Google map Lucasfilms, just Google 1 Letterman Drive instead. The beautiful "campus" does not have any Lucasfilm signs so don't be scared to drive into the private business lot. Just let the security guard at the gate know that you are here to visit Yoda and they will direct you to the proper parking side. If you are lucky (I wasn't), the lobby area behind the Yoda statue may be open and you can walk in to see some more Star Wars memorabilia and take pictures of the LUCASFILMS sign... or you can do what I did and take pictures with my awesome camera through the lobby windows. For sure you will see Boba Fett and Darth Vader. -

As Yoda once said:
"Size matters not. Judge me by my size do you?"
So yeah, don't judge the fountain by its size, but enjoy this hallmark of "local flavour" on the grounds of ILM/Lucasfilm, in the beautiful Presidio.

HMMMMMM awesome place- this is.
We had seen this landmark on the TV show, The Amazing Race, and had to go see it after our trip to the Walt Disney Family Museum. The fountain is about a 1/2 mile away from the Disney Museum.
The fountain is located in the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the court yard in front of the lobby. Don't be afraid of the security gate as you enter the parking lot. The guard just asked us why we were there and then gave us a parking permit and directed us to the fountain.
As Yoda would say, "fortunate, you are", because the lobby was open and we got to go inside and see the statues of Darth Vader, Boba Fett and other Star Wars memorabilia. It was fun to see the "Lucas Arts" sign on the wall as well.
The grounds are gorgeous with a neat view of the Palace of Fine Arts. There is a Starbucks located in the court yard area of the complex and is open during the week.
It was amusing to see all of the action figures and other "geek toys" resting in the windows and on the desks of the offices.
There are no formal tours and the place isn't real public friendly but if you are an avid fan of Star Wars or other George Lucas films, then you will appreciate just walking the grounds and being close to where it all happens. -

Good place for photos especially for star wars fans. They have a yoda fountain and a darth vader and boba fett inside. Thats pretty much it though so dont expect to spend more than 10 mins here. The park around this area is nice though so maybe you can spend another 10 mins to enjoy the scenery around lucas studios. UPDATE: the building is closed on the weekends so only the yoda fountain is available for pictures during the weekends.

It was a cold, windswept day as I approached the fountain...
ME: Are you the great and wise Yoda?
YODA: My name that is...wear it out don't.
ME: You're smaller than I thought.
YODA: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you.
ME: What the hell is the Force?
YODA: A quarter.
ME: A quarter?
YODA: Quarter you must gimme.
I throw a quarter into the fountain.
YODA: Quarter you expect me to get from below?
ME: You want me to fish it out?
YODA: Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind.
ME: So you really think I have Jedi potential? Gee, has anyone told you that you sound just like Miss Piggy?
A clap of thunder erupts and the statue no longer speaks. Apparently, the Force giveth...and the Force taketh away...and don't take hallucinogenics on an empty stomach. -

Totally awesome! For any Star Wars fan visiting SF, then you must head over to the Presidio to see the fountain of Yoda!
Parking at the fountain is limited to 20mins. There may be other places to park near the campus if you want to stay a little longer.
The lobby inside was open when I was there, and it is also a must see to see more memorabilia. Just be respectful when walking around because it is still a place of business. -

Some gems aren't found in a tour guide.
The Yoda statue stands guard in front of the Letterman Digital Arts Center, which is near the Lombard St. entrance into the Presidio. The 23-acre campus retains the name of the Letterman Army Hospital that was demolished to make way for G.Lucas. Look for the guard booth for directions:
Me: I'm looking for a Jedi Master.
Guard: Oohhh. Jedi Master. Yoda. You seek Yoda.
Me: You know him?
Guard: Mmm. Take you to him, I will.
Not exactly like that, but he'll point you to the Sci-Fi shrine.
The life-size Jedi stands elevated within a small fountain with sheets of water cascading from his perch. The Force (of water) flows strongly. It's a serene place surrounded by a pristine landscape and a Starbux around the corner. Could there exist a more romantic spot for a first kiss? Mmm. Just a thought, wouldn't it be whack if Yoda's eyes were security cameras and the IT geeks were having a big ha ha over all the nerds that flock there? Not me, other nerds.
There's a small cache of Star Wars memorabilia displayed within the building lobby behind the stone-faced Jedi. Darth Vadar, Boba Fett, light sabers, others. If you're the Sci-Fi type or your out-of-town guests are, then this is for you. May the Geek be with you.

What can I say.
It's Yoda.
He's on top of a fountain.
And to quote my friend Randy, "It's not every day you see Yoda on a fountain."
That said, it was after hours and quiet in the parking lot. There was ourselves and one other group of geeks who came for the photo-op.
Still, gotta see it. -

How can you not give this place 5 stars...
I came with my girlfriend to pay my respects to my old master...its been some time since I've visited Degobah and the swamp land has been industrialized to a modern city. The new inhabitants have even built a nice crypt with a statue in honor.
Come, rub a penny with your loved one and make a wish together or ask Master Yoda to bless your union. Or you could just take tons of .jpegs in most savory poses...wadDUUUP

Dear Mr. Lucas,
Thanks for taking a shit on my fair city. First you destroyed the Star Wars franchise and now your defiling some of the most beautiful land in the fricking world.
But In Golden Gate Park, they put up statues to Schiller and Goethe. yeah I guess a muppet who spits eastern mysticism did far more that Goethe. You should have saved that shit for Anaheim.
But I guess every IT(diot) fanboy love this shit and it will be oozing with joy to visit this place like pilgrims to Mecca. What do you expect from a Trojan. Go back to Marin.
EDIT: As someone mentioned to me in a private message: "It would have been cooler if it was a statue of Han Solo in frozen in carbonite." Hell Yeah. If it was Han Solo in Carbonite this review would have been 4 stars. -
Review from Greg G.
I feel like i need to preface this review by saying Yoda is awesome and there isn't a character created past or present who is as dope as him...
However, this statue was a little underwhelming...
Like everyone else, i had a little trouble finding Yoda at first. However, i think this is because the fountain is so small that you walk right past it. When they say this is a life size replica... they mean it. I don't know what i was expecting... like a grand Yoda shrine or something... but it's really a simple, small fountain.
The cool part is going into the Lucasfilms lobby located right behind the fountain. In there you'll find two life size statues of Darth Vader and Boba Fett-- kinda cool. Also there's a bunch of other Star Wars stuff any fan would enjoy checking out.
I would give it 5 stars just for the ol' "Aww man it's Yoda you gotta give it 5 stars" sake.. but i think 4 stars is more than fair. I'll just say this, when you go, expect to stay less than 5-10 minutes... you'll take your picture, and say to yourself, "That's it?" -

It's pretty incredible that Yoda got a fountain. Not that he doesn't deserve it, but that it's right there, in a public park just a two minute drive from my home.
I can't decide, but I think this is my favorite piece of the Star Wars Universe currently inhabiting our day to day lives. -

"The wha?"
"You know, in the Presidio..."
"umm.."
"*sigh* where the Yoda Fountian is."
"Oooohhhh, COOL! So you work for George Lucas!"

The weather Saturday was almost perfect and I went for a nice walk in the Presidio just to go see Yoda. I knew he was around Bldg B, but still couldn't find him at first. Had to ask around, but then when I finally saw him and the fountain, I was really happy! Definitely worth the effort.
The fountain and sculpture is so nicely done. The perfect height and Yoda looks to be actual size or life size. Yoda is beautifully sculpted and is so life-like and believable that I found myself walking around it to view it from all angles. Never knew a statue to look so wise, yet so cute and adorable.
My friend noticed that others had tossed coins into the fountain and she gave me a couple, so like others before me, I made a couple wishes and tossed some coins, just like I recently did at the Palazzo in Vegas.
The Yoda fountain is very well done...for me, it was definitely worth the trip to find him. There was a certain calmness, a peaceful serenity standing there in front of him. I don't know who the artist was, but they totally captured the essence of Yoda perfectly.Listed in: Only in San Francisco

San Francisco is a sci-fi city and this is one of our temples.
My only wish is that they could have made a little slice of Dagobah for Yoda to stand in, and situate him better with his teachings (principly from "The Empire Strikes Back"). Yoda here is in an austere concrete fountain, not surrounded by greenery and nature, one with The Force. He is elevated above your height, which is a bit incongruous with his teaching "Size matters not".

I'm pretty sure this fountain would only impress die-hard Star Wars fans, as it was definitely smaller than I expected. But if you're into that sort of stuff, you should also check out the plethora of Star Wars props in the lobby immediately behind the fountain.
Oh, and you're not allowed to use the restrooms inside. When I went, some lady yelled at me and said I was trespassing. Damn my bladder. -
