I know, I know. I'm still on the fro-yo caboose even though it departed from the station approx 2 months ago. So passe. Better extremely late than never, right? Wrong, in the case of yoCup. It is reminiscent of Yogurt Bar (a similarly disappointing one star-er) because of the weird icy texture and lack of legit toppings. Sometimes a woman just needs some Whoppers, Heath *AND* Reese's Pieces on her froyo. Only two choices of yogurt (original & blueberry) and the small size comes with just one topping (additional toppings are a freakin' dollar more!).
I got the original with kiwi but after a few bites, the tartness of the original had frozen my taste buds off (or so it felt). I paid just under $4 for a deceivingly small froyo with less than adequate amount of toppings.

Um No.
This place is not impressive.
They're pricey.
They pull that whole Yogurt Bar trick, where they con you into getting the medium size, just you can get the three toppings.
They are skimpy with the toppings.
They have no seating.
And above all - their yogurt just isn't good.
My yogurt had already started to melt, before it was even handed to me. It had no flavor. Literally no flavor.
Empty calories and an empty wallet is all I took away from yoCup.

$4 for a mini yogurt and they were stingy with both the amount of yogurt and the toppings too. There was so much extra, empty space in my cup I think I would've felt better if the container itself were smaller and then filled completely. The people there were friendly but it felt like a ripoff to me and the yogurt was just OK.
It was one of those days, and Jessica and I snuck away from the office for that mid-afternoon pick-me-up -- fro yo! Just back from New York with the lingering taste of Pinkberry fresh in my mind, it was all I could do to contain my excitement as we walked over to yoCup.
I got in line, and hemmed and hawwed a little as I tried to make my decision. The girl behind the counter was clearly frustrated with me, and was pulling the 'tude, but I was doing the math in my head, trying to figure out how much I was going to get ripped off this time.
I ended up ordering the original with strawberries and chocolate chips, which were the only chocolate toppings options. I dug my spoon in anticipation. Bleh. The fro-yo was just okay and the toppings were bland. Next time I'll stick to Yogurt Bar or Icebee's.

Mochi was so early 2008. Since it's now way past the midpoint, I'm SO over mochi.
But I'm not over real frozen yogurt.
And this was a frozen yogurt. Heartier yet not necessarily creamier. Not icy. Not grainy with ice.
The prices reflect one topping for a teaser size, two toppings for a what-ever-they-call-medium and so on. For a teaser regular flavor with blueberries it came to $3.65. Don't forget the frequent buyer card, after like 13, you get a free small.
But here's the catch. The small was pretty small. I'm used to more generous portions where the small is more than I can safely handle. Or more than I can comfortably handle. It's like an Italian grandmother's starter portion that you know you can finish with chutzpah but only if you are offered no more.
This small was like that weird aunt who is in to nouveau cuisine. The Asian aunt who wants to be french and tries her hand at making thanksgiving for all the Asian relatives while enforcing her idealized portions. This results in not enough food among a Chinese family during a time of alleged celebration where the food should flow like syrup onto a hot fudge sundae. If you can imagine the complete shock, horror, disbelief, embarrassment, utter impossible-ness of it all.
And the taste. Have I mentioned the taste? Maybe because there was nothing to mention? What taste. Frozen hearty....nothing. The best part, the part that made me dip my spoon in over and over, was the blueberries. Since it's summer and the berries are in season, I'll buy a pint of blueberries for less than I paid for this lilliputian monstrosity.

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. I decided to give YoCup another go around because a fellow financial district person and I love fro-yo. So I went in and got the smallest size with mochi (and original flavor, of course).
The mochi was horrendous. Seriously. The bits were stuck together, and it tasted as though it had melted in someone's car and the workers there thought "meh, what the hell" and decided to serve it anyway. I even saw the guy struggling with the mochi but he decided to slap it on anyway.
Yick. And (this is a strange pet peeve of mine) my serving looked absolutely messed up. Though other people had the pristine yogurt twist finish, mine didn't seem nearly as well done.
Boo. I never thought I'd LOWER a fro-yo place. Oh - I just did. Go somewhere else...there are so many places to choose from!!

They need more than 2 flavors to compete with the other places. Blueberry isn't for everyone but I like the fact that it's not Green Tea. This place does remind me of So Green with the decor and the sign to the right that explains why it's low fat etc...reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where everyone thought the frozen yogurt was fat free...eek.
They have a girl stand out in the street offering free samples and like a siren's call, lures you in with kiwi and blueberry toppings. Of course I had to investigate after wolfing down a So Green. Ugh, the tummy ache. The man behind the counter was nice enough and within a flash instantly produced two samples. I had the Teaser with 3 flavors-blueberry, raspberry, and strawberries as is my staple.
Because I was a first time customer he upgraded me to a Pleaser with a grand total of $4.90. So much yogurt!!!
The taste: slightly tart, very creamy quality like ice cream. We give it a thumbs up.
There was no line and even on a hot day, they're not slowly reading a label with toppings. They listen, apply and take care of ringing you up in one fell swoop. I call that efficiency. They also have a frequent buyer card to further draw you in. Looks like someone took a business class somewhere...

On a warm sunny day, frozen yogurt is a great treat! I was curious about this place so I hit this place up before worktime. I got the blueberry yogurt with strawberries! I must say it is refreshing and I don't have to feel guilty about eating it, too! Love it!
Wow, my co-worker told me that this place was worth the visit...yeah, I don't think so. The two flavors they offer were both disgusting. I got the teaser which cost me more then a healthy cup of soup from AG Ferrari's. Blueberry with blackberries as a topping. Let's count how many fruits we put on each cup!!! Really? The lady behind the counter seriously put each blackberry on as if she only had 10 to spare and that was it! I took my first spoonful and looked in my cup...wtf??? Hollow yogurt? TCBY is better then this expensive shit. Penguins was the top notch place 15 years ago, but now we are stuck with this crap. Sad world we live in. Tried it, paid for it and learned my lesson. No more for me.

Pleaser 8 oz w/ 3 toppings $5.25
Filler 12 oz w/ 3 toppings $6.50
Flavors & Swirls
Teaser $3.95
Pleaser $5.85
Filler $6.95

Bought a cup of yogurt here, threw half of it in the trash and went over to IceBee for another cup ... how sad is that? LOL... well at least the place is sparkling clean and the guys who work there are cute :-x
The streets have been flooded with froyo.
That is a good thing. Consumers have options and this is the best of the new crop of frozen yogurt retail outlets around here.
Here is why:
- Their base froyo; If you like yogurt and want that bitter bite, than this base is best.
- Topping selection; they have toppings that other places, like Yogen Fruz, don't offer (e.g. lychee).
- They ALWAYS have a low-fat base option (their non-fat is fine but I like a little fat in my froyo).
- Location; never a wait.
- Punchcard; word - the 13th cup o' froyo is free, yo.

I'm always disappointed to be writing a review of my first and only visit to an establishment. This place is a total rip off, $3.95 for their "teaser" sized cup ("small" to everyone else). There were only two flavors today, which was strange considering they have the capacity for four based on the machinery I saw. The actual FroYo was ok and all the toppings looked good, the strawberries I had were decent.
I won't be back since it's overpriced and the fact that I was thinking I should have just gone to the pub and had a pint instead. It would have cost the same and been more fun. I just don't see all these new FroYo places lasting.

I'm not crazy for frozen yogurt, but I said what the hey and decided to give it a whirl. Plus, I've walked by it a dozen times, and have had a sample every time. It's not amazing, it's not horrible, which is why it's "A-OK". Would be great on a hot SF day (ha!). I tried the Teaser (5oz) original flavor yogurt, with chocolate chips. I like that you get a topping with it. They do have a good selection of toppings from fruit to chocolate, some even more exotic (like lychee). It's simple - nothing but frozen yogurt and an array of toppings. I'm sure they'll someday expand their flavors and offerings. I do wish they had a smaller "kid" version. Let's face it, my b-hind could use a 3oz version of everything!
After a quick stop at Nordstrom, a sudden but urgent tart frozen yogurt craving emerged. This is not a rare occurrence unfortunately. Fortunately, thanks to all the current tart fro-yo hype, I knew I wouldn't have to walk far to satisfy my craving, and thanks to Yelp's new iphone app, I found one only a couple blocks away from the Westfield mall.
Convenient: Yes
Good: Sure. But I won't wake up in the middle of the night calling its name like I do for Cantaloop's banana fro-yo (sorry, Bay Area peeps, this place is in Pasadena).
Flavors: Plain (quite tart, which I liked, but my copilot didn't) and berry (tasted a bit like cherry medicine, which I didn't like, but my copilot did: "Maybe I LIKE cherry medicine!!")
Toppings: All the fruit options looked mushy except the blueberries, which we both got and liked. And you can't really go wrong with Fruity Pebbles.
Conclusion: Not an hour later, my copilot and I both craved and indulged our craving for a McDonald's soft-serve cone, so yeah, I doubt I'll be back.

I can't validate yet another frozen yogurt place in the area, especially one that charges $4 for the smallest size (with one topping included). Prices are supposed to go down with competition, not up. The fro-yo battle is not unlike the coffee battle that has been playing out ever since Starbucks, Peets, and other independent purveyors discovered that Americans are unwilling to walk more than a single block for their java. I'm not sure the same holds true for fro-yo.
Yes, the product was fine. But I got a sandwich for lunch for the same price as my yogurt. Something is out of whack. I'll stick to It's-It's and Drumsticks from here on out, or at least a visit to Icebee around the corner where I can get away with a decent-sized, but only slightly inferior quality self-serve frozen yogurt for $2.50 to $3.00.

This place is no Pinkberry that's for sure. I ordered the Pleaser (medium) with raspberries, pineapple and coconut. When 90% of the toppings are fruit, you assume that the fruit is going to be pretty damn good, and not frozen. The pineapple was fairly bland, the raspberries definitely not good, some were still frozen, and the coconut was just wrong. I don't understand, how do you mess up coconut? Also, it was a surprisingly small serving for $5.25. Oh, and when I got to the bottom of the cup, there was a hair. Awesome. I don't think I'll be heading back anytime soon.
A new yoCup on Market! Checked it out with Tracy yesterday and right when we walked in, we were offered samples of both original and blueberry. Original was as good as yoCup on Spears but I didn't really like blueberry. Like I mentioned in my previous post on fro-yo, I don't like blueberries so maybe that's why.
The prices here is more expensive then the one located in the Rincon Center!!!
Original
Teaser with 1 topping $3.65
Pleaser with 3 toppings $5.25
Filler with 3 toppings $6.50
Flavored and Swirled
Teaser with 1 topping $3.95
Pleaser with 3 toppings $5.85
Filler with 3 toppings $6.95
Toppings were the usual strawberry, mango, blueberry, lychee, mandarin orange, kiwi, pineapple, raspberry, blackberry, MOCHii, yogurt chips, choco chips, coconut, fruity pebbles, cap'n crunch, granola, almonds, and graham cracker crumbs.
I chose to get the Original Teaser with Mango. WOW, I love how they didn't dice up those mangoes in little tiny ass pieces like the rest of them fro-yo shops! The mangoes were as sweet as they can get, BIG chunks of them, and PLENTY given. I also added my own MOCHii balls that I keep in a zip lock bag with me whenever I go get fro-yo!
I was disappointed with the no seating inside or outside! How am I gonna devour my fro-yo? We sat outside on the ground, me in a dress, eating fro-yo.

Fro-yo girl here. Call me crazy, but there's something different about the yogurt here and the yogurt at the YoCup Rincon location. It tastes the same but my cup of fro-yo today melted much more quickly (it wasn't a warm day) whereas I was impressed by how it didn't melt at the Rincon Center. Very odd. The obvious difference is the price. A pleaser (medium) with three toppings (flavored tart) is $5.85 (expensive) and it's only $4.95 at the Rincon Center (unless the price has gone up at that location recently). Big difference even though the Rincon Center location is nicer.
They were handing out samples of the two flavors, original (plain) tart and blueberry tart. I walked in, saw how the fruit looked nice and fresh (with fruit chopping in the corner) and ordered my Pleaser (blueberry and plain tart, side by side with mochi balls, blackberries and blueberries). Then I went to that same dirty alley where Matt G./Fro-yo boy enjoyed his treat. I'm surprised they didn't tell me about the bonus card like they did when I visited the Rincon location.
I still like their mango tart (at the Rincon location) better than the blueberry tart but the blueberry tart is good too. They serve the good stuff - thick, dense, soft fro-yo that's on the creamy side but still has that refreshing icy quality. The level of tartness is average. Definitely better than Stinkberry. The blackberries were huge and all my berries were fresh. They were starting to freeze over in the cup.
The shop is larger than I expected given the lack of seating and the lack of flavors. They could squeeze a few small tables inside or add stools - look at how small Tuttimelon on Irving is and they still have stools. Outdoor seating would be nice too.
To increase the appeal of the Market St. location, I recommend providing a flavor here that you can't get at the Rincon Center location, i.e., the new "pink" flavor (raspberry tart, pomegranate tart, cranberry tart). Keep the original tart too, because that's the basic/standard flavor.
You know you love me. X0 X0, fro-yo girl.

While it is not Pinkberry, Yo-Cup does a good job of trying to fill in the big shoes. They offer the same type of toppings and apparently there are rotating toppings as well. I personal go to a place like this and stick with the classic, tart or original, but they do offer an alternative flavor if you so choose. I feel like if you are coming to a place like this, try the original though, that is the gimmick here or the forte' not the other random option available. The claim to fame that they are striving for is to reach that tarty and delicious peak of the mountain that Pinkberry has already claimed.
Again I feel like the price appropriate to the portions, they are more generous than a pinkberry but still smallish. But really how much fro-yo do you really need in one sitting?
oooh yoCup #2!
I'm really impressed with how prompt they were with their samples. Juliane and I walked in and we were greeted by one sample cup of their original tart and another sample cup of blueberry tart. I really liked the original, the blueberry was a little too sour for me since I'm not a fan of sours.
I got their teaser size with lychee topping. Total was $3.65 if I remember correctly. There weren't any seats there so we just sat outside of the store and enjoyed our yogurt since it was a nice day anyways. While we were sitting in front of the store a guy came by with a wheelchair and since yoCup isn't wheelchair friendly one of the workers came out and asked if he would want to try a sample of their yogurt. The owner I believe came out as well and gave him a sample of the original and the blueberry. We thought that was really sweet of them that's why they get a 5 instead of a 4.

With all these new fro-yo places opening, in fair assessment, we can all concur that the city of San Francisco is currently the fro-yo capital of the United States!
"Obviously Matt hasn't been to Los Angeles or New York lately!"
Well eventually I'll go to those cities one day in the future, but I did arrive at yocup's second location (Third and Market St....next to Jeffery's toys).
The newest fro-yo shop, formerly an "Oh la la" coffee shop, has just opened less than a week and is under the same ownership as the successful Rincon Center location. Although the newest location is quite smaller, less bright and no available seating, the toppings and the fro-yo are identical.
There were two available flavored fro-yo:
The Plain Tart is creamy and tart
The Blueberry Tart is "berry" refreshing
I had that Blueberry tart in a "teaser" (medium) size fro-yo. For $5.25+tax, you get a choice of three toppings. I chose the popular mochi ball, blackberries and a drizzle of honey as my trio toppings. Like the Rincon Center, the cool treat was a nice size portion and pretty stiff. But unlike the other location, there are no seating areas, so I needed to somewhat enjoy my treat in the dirty alley between the Jeffery's toys and Grain D'or bakery.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I would love to give the newest yocup 4 stars, but there are no seating. I don't like to enjoy my fro-yo in a alley with the mixture of feces and urine.

With the addition of 685 Market Street, YoCup remains unsurpassed in its quality, service, cleanliness and overall aesthetic appeal.
YoCup's original location at Rincon Center was easily the best tasting frozen yogurt in San Francisco, however it lacks one key component, the location. With the addition of this second location situated on the boarder of San Francisco Financial and Union Square Districts, YoCup finally has a necessary means to create the proper following for its far superior yogurt.
yo yo yo, I am starting to feel a little spoiled...
La Boulange opened and YoCup is right next door. And all of this, two blocks from my cubicle. A dream. A swirly, tart, frozen, tasty dream!
It has been so hot lately and I couldn't resist an offer for an afternoon snack with a coworker. Someone was handing out samples out front and then the owner came by and offered us a different flavor. I was skeptical about Blueberry (I dont like anything blueberry flavored) but this tastes just like candy - without tasting artificial! It was so delicious! We had a quick chat with the owner, Meinoh, who was extremely nice and very friendly and proceeded to order. I was really happy with my frozen yogurt, there are so many pinkberry-esque places opening up and so many of them fail to deliver. I will say YoCup definitely delivers and so far, has been one of the few places that serves tasty yogurt in another flavor other than plain tart (which I LOVE).
We made a promise to Meinoh we'd come back regularly, and considering what an addict I am I think "almost every day" seems about right. Prices are, unfortunately, a little high. But service is friendly, portions are generous, and the value of having this two blocks away from my office supersedes everything!
Thanks for opening this up, I am so excited :)

Some people have tunnel vision, some people have fro-yo vision. I was running on Market Street on one of my crazy urban run Mondays and saw a guy passing out fro-yo samples and my feet just came to a halt. Ahead of me a woman was completely distracted with fro-yo vision. She totally smacked into some thugs on the street. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Not only was she staring at the fro-yo samples, she completely hit the thugs hard. Who's the thug now?
This location isn't as large and eye-catching as its store at Rincon, but of course I'll be back. After all, if you buy 12 fro-yo's you'll get the 13th "free."

Although at first glance, it seems like it's a little on the pricier side, after having been to several froyo places, it is still one of the cheapest of all the frozen yogurts of its kind around the area: SoGreen, Yogurt Bar, Yogen Fruz, Swirl Culture. Also, this place, unlike others, includes the toppings in their prices, while the other frozen yogurt stores charge you for a base price and then charge you individually for the toppings. I realized that that's why Yocup looks like it's more expensive.
You definitely get what you pay for here, if not more. They are generous with the yogurt and they pack on the toppings, and they don't put your yogurt up to the rim like other places, they bring it up higher. Their medium is definitely worth the price (I always need more than one topping).
The workers are friendly and offer samples as soon as you walk in. The toppings look fresh and great, and I love that they chop their fruit in big sizes so it doesn't get all jammy. When you walk out, they say "Watch your step!!" so that you don't fall off of the step that I almost tripped on walking in (I was so embarrassed).
Soft pillows of mochi nestled in a cloud of tartness. Weather report: All sunshine and smiles here. I'm only too happy to welcome another yogurt locale into my work hood.

According to the ingredient list...no high fructose corn syrup, making it healthier than its competitors, but still not really healthy.
With all of the fro yo competition going on these days, you'd think ONE shop would open up with the following ingredient list:
Organic cultured skim milk
Organic cane sugar
Pectin (maybe, if needed)
That's all folks!
...and that the flavoring options would include organic fruit.
Since I was visiting from the midwest I was up early, had gone on a long run, and I was hungry for frozen yogurt and fruit at 10:45 am. The friendly folks at yoCup took pity on me when I arrived a few minutes before the store opened. They cheerfully invited me in. Not only did I satisfy my craving for yogurt I was struck by their excellent customer service.
This placed literally opened the day after Yogurt Bar did. Didn't these people do any market research? Saturated markets???
I know I'm a fro-yo novice but it honestly tasted the same as Yogurt Bar. This place had blueberry which was nice but the texture was runny and icy as well.
My question is why only two flavors? What happened to the freedom of choice? Or perhaps they are making a statement about how there are too many options and we are all paralyzed by the infinite permutations... Oh who am I kidding, they just want to sell yogurt. Dollar, dollar bills-yo!

yoCup #2 just opened on Market Street and the excellent location allows FiDi/SOMA workers to get their afternoon frozen yogurt fix.
What is it about the tart frozen yogurt craze? It's really starting to become an obsession, a daily necessity. As a crack addict would sell everything in his house for a fix, as would I for my froyo. I literally always find myself spending the last of my money on froyo, and counting down the minutes before I can get out of the office and taste that tart & tangy solidified form of happiness. There must be some sort of help out there for this.
This yoCup location has two flavors: original & blueberry, both the tart kind. (They've said they will eventually get more flavors.) The texture is great and more creamy than that of SoGreen's yogurt (just down the street). Taste-wise I have to say I slightly prefer SoGreen's over yoCup's, but the overall experience at yoCup just seems to be more welcoming. The workers are friendly, quick to give you a sample, and the store is clean, but doesn't feel overly sterile. The only downside is that there is no seating if you want to enjoy your yogurt with friends. Gotta take it to go. Standard fruit toppings, mochi, etc. A Teaser (small fro yo + 1 topping) = $3.65.
$3.65 x 365 days = a sad :( bank account but a very happy :) stomach for this kitty.
This place just opened today. We were going out for an 8 mile run (4 out and back). Passed this a half mile into the run. Decided to go out 4.25 and end here.
The employees were very friendly and made sure that we had tried the two flavors that were available (regular and blueberry). There were also people passing out samples along Market street. We got a small (5oz) blueberry with blackberries.
The blueberry yogurt is delicious. Sweet, a little tangy and very refreshing. The blackberries were fresh and complemented the yogurt well. It might have been nice for them to be more integrated into the yogurt.
I do wish they had a smaller size (like maybe 2.5 oz), because the 5oz is a little much for me. But it might be better, because then I won't be tempted to go there just by myself :-)

I don't understand the whole froyo craze that has taken over San Francisco. If you want something sweet and cold, why not get ice cream? And if froyo is supposed to be healthy, why don't they give nutrition information?
I had the blueberry yogurt with blueberry's on top. It was alright. When it started to melt it became watery looking and very unappealing. I would love to know if they use all natural ingredients. In the meantime, give me hot chocolate and two scoops of all natural ice cream from BiRite.
I was really excited when I saw yoCup's store front on Thursday. New frozen yogurt place! Yay! But then I realized they weren't open when I yanked on the door and saw the workers inside staring at me like I was crazy. I am crazy! For froyo! Still, I ran away in embarrassment.
Come Saturday, I'd forgotten about yoCup until I saw the two employees handing out samples on Market and Third. Oooo! Of course I'd like a sample! Thank you! I think I scared the girl a little. I practically lunged for the entire sample tray. I might've even looked like I was trying to cop a feel.
Woefully, I discovered the original flavor was too tangy. Like lemon tangy. Like lemon tangy my face puckered and I said "Ooooo!" in the bad way. I can take Jubili tangy but not yoCup tangy. So sad! This place is much more convenient than Jubili. :(

Good yogurt and friendly service. It was super fast this afternoon -- no line. They're enthusiastic about getting you hooked.
I liked the tartness level and both flavors, and I thought the options were sufficient. I think that having more of the fruit toppings be fresh would be a good idea, although if you pick lychee like I did, I guess canned should be expected. Don't try to wolf it down before getting on Metro because you'll freeze your brain like I did. I'll still be back for more though.
Oh, and it's not cheap. But I assume it's the going price for fro-yo these days.

I have a suggestion. Summer, frozen yogurt. Winter, mulled wine. SF downtown would never be the same again.

After a long plane ride, what's more refreshing than a frozen treat? How about one that's all natural yogurty deliciousness? And happens to be serve by some really nice people who are more than happy to give you free samples and don't mind at all when you take five years to pick out your topping?!
Blueberry with teeny chocolate chips. Mmm-mmmmm.
Minor downsides of note: Only two flavors were offered (plain yogurt and blueberry). Plus, once it started to melt, it melted fast into a sort of super watery blueberry soup.
Yo Cup certainly did the trick in taste and refreshment...hopefully we'll see some on the east coast soon!
