I have mixed feelings about Yoberri. On one hand, it's creamy, cold, and refreshing. On the other hand, it's very tart, and doesn't have as many topping options such as Berry Chill. (I'm a big fan of berry chill because they have girl scout cookie toppings.)
A few nights ago I stopped in, the shop is tiny, but very clean. The server was friendly and offered me a sample; I chose plain with berries. I'll go back, for sure, but I actually live closer to Bobtail Soda fountain and would probably most of the time rather have a small scoop of the real stuff. But that's just my humble opinion.
It was ok, but nothing really special. only one flavor (vanilla) and limited toppings.
I personally prefer old school frozen yogurt which is creamier.
Service was friendly, and I enjoyed sitting at the window counter and people watching, but I doubt I will return.
I feel like Yoberri is the quieter, more reserved and laid back sister of Berry Chill....
The concept at Yoberri is the same as all the others....good for you frozen yogurt, with good-for-you-slash-interesting toppings. The difference between Yoberri and Starfruit/Berry Chill/Yogen Fruz/etc is that there is only one flavor of frozen yogurt, and there are not as many toppings.
I will say, what makes this place is that they have all different kinds of fruit. Many fruits I've never even heard of. So if you are a fan of fresh fruit on your frozen yogurt, this is the place for you.
Also, since this place isn't packed to the capacity limited (yeah, I'm talking about you Berry Chill on State with the loooong lines) it's more relaxed and the workers at Yoberri are accomodating and kind. It doesn't feel like an assembly line at Yoberri, and you can actually find a spot to sit down.
I would recommend Yoberri...it tastes great and is a little more calm then all the other Fro Yo places.
While delicious, they've got nerve offering a buy 10 yogurts get 1 free card! What's ridiculous about the offer is that each yogurt has to cost at least $4.00. A small, with one topping, doesn't cost $4.00. If you want to fatten up, Midwest style, $4.00 won't be a problem but if you're goal is to stay fit, this card is not for you. A buy 10 get 1 free card, without the dollar limit, might encourage more customers away from Red Mango, which is just a few blocks away AND it's just as tasty AND they've got several flavors!! Think about it Yoberri....
I LOVE U YOBERRI!
my boyfriend and i visited both berry chill and yoberri, and i must say i was VERY dissapointed with the berry chill. YOBERRI KICKS SEVERE BUTT! its LOTS more laid back, very chill place. and the frozen yogurt is the best i've ever had. IF U WANT A GOOD HEALTHY SNACK AT A COOL QUITE SPOT PLEASE VISIT YOBERRI!!!! unless u want a loud pretentious assignment like place on a super busy street then ny all means berry chill is right for u, but you'd be missing out on some amazing stuff.
Best froyo I've had period. Better than Berry Chill, Starfruit, Red Mango, Pinkberry, Yogen Fruz, Cocomero, and probably any other place I'll ever try. So good that I eat the froyo, not the toppings - thats saying a lot.
Taste: Creamier and more tart. No as watery like Berry Chill. I know BC is the big thing in Chicago, but honestly its on the low end of the froyo spectrum (Starfruit being last place, of course). Its more tasteful than Red Mango. RM is creamy, but has no taste to it. Its most similar to Pinkberry.
Service: Always nice people there. There's a younger lady that is there a lot - I think she's the owner. If you get toppings, she always fills you up. The other guy that is always there def skimps on them.
Small with 3 toppings is a little under 5 bucks. The -1 star is for price. I mean, i guess its expensive everywhere, but meh.
Yoberri is really great. The only drawback is that they only have one flavor as opposed to Red Mango and Berry Chill that have several. The fruit is always very fresh and the staff is very friendly. I'm definitely a regular here.
One of my faves of frozen yogurt joints:)
So I consider myself very knowledgeable of the frozen yogurt frenzy having been in NY all last summer where the frenzy is HUGE. This was one of the first places I discovered to have the real deal of frozen yogurt and I love it.
The atmosphere and location are a definitely plus. The staff is always helpful and friendly and they do an excellent job of topping your yogurt:)
I would say its on par with Yogen Fruz or Red Mango as far as actual taste. So its a pretty good experience;)
This just happens to be my fave, because its the most mom and pop of the yogurt craze.
After an awful attempt over at Red Mango, we drove down to YoBerri instead. It was quiet, friendly and clean. The guy behind the counter educated us on the YoBerri "low-down" and we made some choices. Unlike Red Mango, the toppings are more expensive BUT they give you more and their overall fro-yo prices are cheaper. Great magazine selections.
Overall, a great place to relax, unwind and have some frozen yougurt!
Nice little place to stop by for mid-afternoon cold treat or after dinner cold dessert. One of my girl friends brought me here... It was first time to come to this place... actually first time to come to any frozen yogurt place. Better than ice cream (thinking about healthy diet) and it works as well as ice cream, so I like it. The place is small but clean and the counter right next to the big window is nice.
Just as I mumbled to my friends, it's not anything like Fro-Yo in St. Louis...just a wanna be apparently! And don't even mention Berry Chill because that frozen yogurt is nasty with it's sour taste, YUCK!
While Yoberri has a nice decor and friendly staff, there is nothing all that exciting about it except it's key location ending in a tiny shop with little seating. You pay a fair $2.50-ish price for a small cup of plain yogurt (choice of small, medium or large) because they get you by charging for each topping (.75 cents each). Then if you think about getting 2 toppings, you might as well bump it up a notch to 3 to get your moneys worth ($1.75 for 3 toppings). They sure know of to make their money--Brilliant! The flavor was not all that great...And I wish they had actual flavored frozen yogurt versus only plain. I had added raspberries, black berries and chocolate syrup to my Yo: The black berries were not ripe and the chocolate syrup I think was Nesquik.
I probably won't be back but it was worth a try!
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Delicious tangy yogurt topped with fresh fruit or some unhealthy goodies if you prefer. I love the fruit, but since it's pretty low cal, I usually opt for dark cocolate chips or Oreos! It's a really refreshing treat, especially when it's hot, but it's a shame this cute little place isn't very busy. The Red Mango in Evanston is always bustling with lines out the door, and I feel the quality is fairly identical.
In short, delicious, real (low cal) yogurt, nice staff, worth a trip over.
My studying has suddenly become Yelp-friendly. I drove by this spot by pure luck after class Saturday mid-curse at the hundreds of drunk St Patty's revelers who were trying to flag down my car. And no, it's silver blue, so I'm not really sure where they got "TAXI" from.
After 7 hours of organic chemistry and 10 minutes of fending off drunk Chads, I pulled into a metered spot for some frozen yogurt before I had a serious meltdown.
The millions of BC, YoBerri and Starfruit comparisons on here are amusing. For all intents and purposes, this place is the same as the rest of the froyo boutiques in Chicago. It's more tart and icy than creamy (and fattening) ice cream, boasts non-fat stats with similar carb/calorie counts... and like all fro-yo, it grows on you. At $3.50 for a medium, YoBerri's reasonable.
I was pleased to see the variety of toppings: lychee, mochi, heath bars, etc...a little disappointed in the single flavor of yogurt, but not too surprised. They do regular non-frozen yogurt for parfaits too, which sounds semi-interesting and semi-like the dish on the dollar menu at Mickey D's.
Minor gripe: they don't have a website for me to stalk, which is a little annoying. Come on YoBerri, get with the times! All in all, I'll probably go to UFood Grill for my froyo instead - it's tastier, which is really what matters at the end of the day, right?
I crave frozen yogurt everyday...for reals. I also tend to be a creature of habit, but I was happy to branch out from my favorite go-to places to try the newest kid on the block.
There is only one flavor, vanilla, and it tastes like real yogurt except frozen...as opposed to a wannabe ice cream. It gives it a little creamy, a little tart, a little strange yet yummy flavor. They have a good selection of topping from your normal kind (oreos, chocolate chips), cereals (I love this trend), and fresh fruit cut up into small pieces (excellent because you get a piece of fruit with every bite).
They get extra points for the fantastic staff. The two people that were working here were so friendly, patient, and funny. They welcomed us as soon as we walked in the door, had genuine smiles on their faces (not the kind that read "I'm only smiling at you because they're paying me to"), and thanked us as we exited. It's customer service that makes all the difference when it comes to places like this that have a lot of competition in the neighborhood.
I had a small vanilla with mangoes and strawberries (around $5) and it was a nice little treat; it was a perfect addition to a lovely Sunday afternoon.
Let the fro-yo wars begin...
I love this stuff because this is what frozen yogurt is supposed to taste like - not that sugary, chemically stuff that was hot in the 90s. But these prices are really too high for what you would pay for in LA or New York. If it were cheaper I would allow myself to indulge more often. I hope a Pinkberry or Red Mango opens in the city soon.
I'm slowly becoming addicted to fro-yo. I really like the product at Yoberri. I love that tangy flavor that some people hate. that's what makes yogurt, YOGURT! I also love all the berries. After eating the berry toppings here, it makes me wonder why the hell berries like this don't exist at normal ice cream places. I hate that strawberry-slime topping you get at a standard ice cream shop. Yoberri understands this! I haven't tried any other toppings except berries. I really wish this place were closer....but then again, I'd spend some serious moola here, so maybe not. I have friends who get fro-yo every day, and after eating here, I can understand that. It is a truly guiltless, yummy meal. And after I eat it, I always feel good!
They are opening a yogen-fruz that is a more convenient location for me, but I wish Yoberri would open a location in Lincoln Square!
OK. Small amount with high price.
The service was very friendly.
I tend to like frozen yogurt, but this was almost borderline frozen chemical taste. The peanut butter chips were not the tasty option.
I had the strawberries and oreos, which were delicious.
I'd rather go get real ice cream.
Thank the Heavens for Yoberri, my own personal saviour this weekend!! I really wasn't aware that fro yo was a seasonal thang until I tried stopping by Berry Chill yesterday only to find it closed 'til March. Ugh. Next up... Starfruit... Also closed. F*&k!! What to do? Where do I turn? Why, to Yelp, of course. A frenzied search-bar entry of 'yogurt' thankfully led me right to the door of this cute little Lakeview spot.
I know you're questioning why I needed a frozen cold snack in the middle of a blizzard and yes, I get that most of our neighborhood Italian Ice joints always close down for the season which is understandable... but fro yo?? Nuh Uh. We need that in the winter too!! Why?? Well, for anyone dieting or calorie conscious fro yo is a total staple in the snack and dessert category - and sometimes the lunch and dinner category too! Just a little something to tide over the cravings of a screaming sweet tooth or fill an empty belly on something other than tempting, fattening crap.
Yoberri hit the spot in so many ways... the toppings I love were all there although admittedly they do fall short in the flavor category. Original is all you're going to get here. Where's the green tea, yo?!
The kids behind the counter were super friendly and even hooked me up with a solid hefty helping of extra toppings in little cups. Score!! I'd normally complain about the fruit being cut too large (it was) and the music being blaring and godawful (I'd rather not 'Let it Rock', thanks) but how many complaints can I really have when they are the only spot in the game to bite the winter bullet and stay open just for me (uh, and you)?? Yeah, not a one.
Stopped in today looking for something to feed the kid I nanny...he's been a little sick and won't eat a thing. He says no to everything and since it's my job to keep him alive, I thought I better do something, and quick!
The man working explained that they have the one flavor of yogurt and that it's a little tangy but then you can put any of the toppings on it. He gave us a sample which was much appreciated...did I mention the kid hasn't eaten anything and I wasn't about to buy something for him and have it go to waste. Anyway, I liked it and the kid liked it so we bought some. Just a small dish which was $2.76 I think. Ended up not getting any toppings, even though they all looked really good (all the fruit looked very fresh) just in case the kid didn't like what I picked.
Moral of the story is: kid at almost all the frozen yogurt.
Yoberri is the hero of the day!
I'll be back but next time I'll get some for myself and try some of the toppings...I'm thinking chocolate and raspberries!
So call me crazy for coming here on a cold, blisterry night... yet that's exactly what I did since i'm such a froyo freak! I happened to stumble upon Yoberri and give it a try on my way home after checking out a couple bars that might be good venues for my bday party coming up.
I was of course the only person there upon arrival. The interior is small but cozy. It almost feels like a mini lounge w/ all the music blaring in the background. I was surprised at the lack of flavors (only vanilla), and scarcity of toppings (not nearly as many as pinkberry or berry chill). The actual yogurt is good, but ranks behind pinkberry, berry chill and starfruit, and probably tied w/ red mango considering the two taste very similar. The yogurt is noticeably less tart than the three I mentioned above.
Definitely worth a try, but I probably won't be back considering Starfruit is right next to me, and berry chill is all over the place now, which I like a whole lot better!
I came here on a warm and humid Tuesday night. There was no line and only 2 other people in the store. I guess the fro-yo mania hasn't hit Chicago like it has NYC and California.
If you've ever been to Pinkberry, this is basically the same thing except the fro-yo is icy and not creamy. But it has the same tart flavor that you would expect from fro-yo and typical toppings.
I know some people have said it's expensive but compared to the NYC prices that I'm used to, this is rather affordable.
Oh, the fro-yo wars. I think we've reached a point where it's no longer an issue of quality, it's a matter of preference. In my humble opinion, Pinkberry is the best ("5 star") and yes I know we don't have Pinkberry here in Chicago, therefore Berry Chill wins ("4 star") for now. Fine. I don't like Yoberri as much as I like BC, so I shall be awarding it 3 stars. That doesn't mean it's a bad product, it just means that there are only 5 stars and I have to rank these bad boys somehow.
- If you like icy (versus creamy) and not very tart, go for Yoberri.
- If you want more flavor options than just "plain", go to BC.
- Yoberri is slightly less expensive, but not by much
- BC has a larger topping selection, which includes Girl Scout cookies.
- Yoberri has better seating and you don't have to stand in line for 20 minutes waiting for your dessert
- BC has color-changing spoons which you can wash off and reuse (or maybe I'm the only one who does this)
- Yoberri uses styrofoam bowls :(
- If you're looking for an ice cream substitute (ie more on the creamy/sweet side), go to Loves or Treats
Hope that helps!
The yogurt here is really good! Ask for a sample and see for yourself. They only have one flavor, unlike some other places. But I love this yogurt.
The fruit is cut much larger in comparison to Red Mango and Berry Chill. But the toppings we had were nice and fresh - LOVE THAT. The chocolate chip pieces were so very disappointing - I had to remove them from my cup! It was like they were old or something...like bad chocolate. So go with the fruit toppings or other toppings - better choices I think. We've had strawberry, mango, lychee, and cereal toppings - all those were awesome.
The place needs some more decoration...maybe they are going for the minimalistic look, but it really just looks unfinished and like they just opened.
Other than that...I love my fro-yo and will eat here again if I'm in the area! Tied for FRO-YO first place with Red Mango in my book!
Like all yuppie frozen yogurt places, its a bit pricey, considering it probably takes them 3 cents to make a gallon, but in relation to Red Mango or Berry Chill, I thought it was pretty good.
I like that the yogurt is not too tart, not too sweet. I know some people like their yogurt a little more sour, so if that's the case, Yoberri may not be for you.I felt I could eat the yogurt by itself, and the fruit was pretty fresh and sweet.
I shared a large cup with mango, strawberry, and mochi. My mango was really ripe, despite it being the middle of February. I also felt the portions were right, some places (like Red Mango) are very stingy with the fruit, where they give the same amount of fruit on a small and large cup. With Yoberri, they gave pretty generous portions.
Even though it came out to be about 8 dollars, it hit the yogurt spot. The decor is pretty sparse, and they coud add more seating, but maybe that's just how they want look. Although, looking back at it, maybe I'd rather spend that 8 dollars on a real meal...
I've been eating here for about a year and I actually really like it! I'm personally a long time fan of Red Mango (before it came to Clark St. I ate it in Seoul and NY) but Yoberri's yogurt tastes just as good and sometimes better (it's less creamy and a little more tart than Red Mango's). It's definitely WAY better than Berry Chill and Pinkberry.
I only wish they would work on their physical space a bit. There's really no decor in the dining area and the vinyl sign in the front seems like something temporary. Although the yogurt's good, I think they could do a better job of drawing customers in and having them stay there.
Ok, I get it, it's not ice cream, it's yogurt-- it's supposed to be tart. I actually like the tartness. I also like that it's not some sort of chemical soup like normal (TCBY) fro-yo. What I don't like is the milky/watery texture of it. I eat ice cream and fro-yo for its creaminess, which Yoberri just doesn't have.
I guess if you're just craving something cold, sweet, and kind of healthy this might satisfy you. Personally, I'd rather go to DQ and enjoy my dessert, and then spend a little more time at the gym.
This place is pretty solid. The frozen yogurt actually tastes like yogurt, not like watery ice cream. They only have vanilla yogurt and then you get to pick toppings. They have candy, oreos, sprinkles or you can go healthy with fruit. Their smoothies are pretty good too, much sweeter than the yogurt on its own. The prices are reasonable and the medium size is pretty big.
Yoberri's frozen yogurt is delicious, and they have a good selection of toppings...but I've gotta piss in everyone's cornflakes here with a few complaints:
1) When I order a medium, I expect to get close to the eight ounces of yogurt that is shown on the menu. I don't think it's too much to ask. Instead, I got a two-and-a-half inch HOLLOW swirl that probably only weighed three ounces at most. Maybe I'm just a cheapskate, but if I'm paying six fucking bucks for your dessert product, I want to be given precisely what's advertised. Don't skimp.
2) Styrofoam? Are you kidding me? You're charging that much and you can't even pony up for more environmentally responsible serving dishes? Give me a break.
3) I know taste is subjective, but this place plays horrific music. If my stupid swirl hadn't been hollow, I still probably would have scarfed my serving down just as quickly because of the godawful noise pollution invading my brain. I'm not asking for Black Pus, but would veering away from the bad techno and putting on some oldies (who doesn't like oldies? oh, you don't? you're not my friend anymore, you loser!) hurt anything?
My point: It's good, but it ain't THAT good.
There wasn't a lot to differentiate Yoberri from Berry Chill, although I thought the fro-yo was better tasting b/c it was more tart/tangy, less sour than BC.
Good topping selection (look for the fresh fruit--blueberries were amazing!)--pretty much anything you can think of and then some. But they only have plain yogurt, no flavors. Something to do with their no additives mission.
Interior: What is up with these fro-yo places and their need for minimalism? I felt like they should have been serving uber-trendy sushi rather than frozen desserts. Too sterile--not a friendly place to hang out.
Staff: Coincidentally, I thought the staff could have been the same people that served at Berry Chill--uninspired and slow. If you're going to be slow, you should at least be engaging/entertaining. Especially when the customer has nothing but minimalist furnishings to look at.
Its expensive if you bulk up on toppings. I stuck with a small one topping, which for me was very satisfying and under five bucks.
Lastly, for a place that's trying not to pollute our insides, their use of styrofoam is unconscionable.
In general, YoBerri was refreshing, but not something I'd want to eat all the time. Sometimes, nothing satisfies like some B&J Americone Dream.
So I decided to try this new-fangled frozen yogurt stuff. When I walked in, the employee was very nice and courteous to all my questions. He also let me have a free sample, which was nice. An extra star for happy service.
As to the product, I forked over 5 bucks for a small frozen treat. A bit too steep for me. The actual product was nice, the raspberries were very good, and it was hot out, so the coldness was very welcome.
Will I be back? Probably not.
On a frozen yogurt tour of Chicago, Yoberri was my second stop. It was quite disappointing - the frozen yogurt was a taste the owner brought back after tasting it in Italy. It's supposed to be icier, but I just thought it was too icy.
The toppings were interesting, although the raspberry topping was a little sour (half of it was blended and added back into the regular raspberries). I would rather go to Berry Chill.
Okay, I'm from Los Angeles, where the fro-yo wars took place. Frozen yogurt, the tart and sweet variety that Asians favor, is what I'm talking about. In Los Angeles, it's available wherever you go. So I was bummed out that frozen yogurt was not as popular out in Chicago. But suddenly, with the advent of the pinkberry Amex commercials, fro-yo places started opening up in Chicago. I was hesitant to try them out because I didn't want to get my hopes up.
But I'm becoming desperate for some delicious, frozen swirls. So, I stopped by Yoberri; it's conveniently located in my neighborhood. It tastes delicious; not as good as Red Mango, mind you. But...it's really expensive considering what you're getting. For $6, I can get a helluva lot more at Red Mango or Pinkberry, or any other fro-yo place in LA. Why is there a premium charged at Yoberri? Looks like I'll have to pony up some cash to satiate my cravings...at least until a better fro-yo place opens up.
Damn, if only Red Mango opened up here in Chicago; Evanston is too far away!
In my on-going yogurt obsession I thought I would try yoberri tonight.
Pluses:
---slightly cheaper than berry chill
---closer (for me)
---near several yummy looking restaurants that I want to try and yelp sometime soon
---magazines to read that I'm usually to embarrassed to buy (hello In Touch)
Minuses:
---not as additively tart as Berry Chill
---serve in styrofoam
---not as many toppings or as interesting choices as Berry Chill
In conclusion, YoBerri was not significantly worse than Berry Chill, I just didn't love it quite as much. However, I am sure that I will be back at YoBerri soon mainly because it is close and I will have to go somewhere for my fix.
Had Yoberri for the first time last night. I totally agree that the taste is delicious, and the fresh fruit was excellent. And FRESH. Which is good, when you're supposed to be getting fresh fruit.
At the same time, I must agree with Deanna M. (though I'll try not to piss in your cornflakes the way Deanna did) that I also got hosed on the amount of yogurt in my cup- I had the exact same experience, the hollow swirl.
Also (and not to totally parrot Deanna), it's true....WHY THE HELL ARE THEY USING STYROFOAM?!?!?! Seriously....we're not living in the 1950's. I understand pricing constraints, but if you're charging 6 bucks for a cup of yogurt, serve it in something more environmentally friendly.
They ought to have the common sense to fix this stuff up. Their product is good enough that it would be a shame to not go back for these reasons....
I vote for Berry Chill...at least they dont swirl the yogurt into an air filled/centered cup like Yoberri...alas, YB is closer to home and sticks to good fresh fruit in greater quantity than BC.
Starfruit and Red Mango are still on my list.
of course, PinkBerry is the absolute standard...too bad this in not california...
you'll find me at yoberri in the meantime b/c its close and healthy and fruity
I tried Yoberri tonight for the first time. While I appreciated it very much given that I was hot and sweaty after my workout, I wish that they had chocolate flavored too. Not to be picky :). I did get lots and lots of much appreciated sprinkles, but I sort of wish I could have icy chocolate goodness too...
I also don't understand the $.95 (or is it .97) extra for 1 topping and $1.75 for 3 toppings even though they give you the exact same amount of topping (either lots of 1 or some of 3)... it makes no sense, but whatever. I'm sure I'll still go back, I'm a sucker.
I don't want to do it, but I'm gonna... compare Yoberri to Berry Chill.
Pluses for Yoberri:
-Easier to find parking
-Cuter interior
-Can accommodate slightly larger groups
-Closer to me =)
Pluses for Berry Chill:
-Better tasting yogurt
-Generous amount of toppings
-Friendlier service (when I was there)
-Quicker service
Yoberri is great for convenience. I'm not sure if there are any other fro-yo places up north, though I'm sure they'll pop up soon.
If you're craving frozen yogurt, Yoberri is a good place to go for an instant fix. The yogurt didn't taste as creamy as others, but the fruit is really fresh. Selection isn't as great as some of it competitors. Both Berry Chill (State & Ontario) and Star Fruit (Division & Wood) have several yogurt flavors and more toppings to consider.
Ehh...nice place, very minimalist, and they are very generous with the fruit, which is much appreciated.
However, my first yogurt experience was at Red Mango, and this place does not come close =(...the yogurt was more icey and not nearly as creamy
too bad...since theres no Red Mangos in the city
