You immediately notice not the food...but the service!

They thank you for coming in and tell you when you leave that they hope you enjoy it.

Ordered the half teriyaki chicken on rice and small soba(http://www.yelp.com/bi...). $6.00

Rushed back to the office to eat it...I could have just gone with the soba. It was flavorful without having a salty or overly seasoned broth. The chicken teriyaki has diced scallions and a small side salad with a slice of orange(http://www.yelp.com/bi...). I found the teriyaki sauce to be a little on the thick side. I prefer a slight note of teriyaki( http://www.yelp.com/bi...) or a thinner sauce.

Great selection of seaweed salad, endamamae, nigiri rolls, snacks and drinks(http://www.yelp.com/bi...).

Solid lunch in the FiDi!!

Had high expectation for this place due to the solid 4 Stars, but this is just A-OK for me.

Got the half order of Udon with everything and California roll, for $5.20, pretty good deal.

Udon texture is pretty good, I like it.  The broth is super salty, I had to add some hot water in mine, but that did the trick.  Good amount of seaweed, fried tofu, one piece of fish cake.  Pretty good value for the price.

CA roll tasted pretty good, ordinary, again shouldn't have high expectation.

Overall, it was just ordinary.  $5.20 I'm full.  I'm just not impressed.

For similar type of restaurant, I would go for Sushi Bay instead.  And yes, they don't have half order udon, but they have half order bento :)

I love yo yo's. The cheapest lunch place in FiDi, but unfortunately it is a bit far for me. Otherwise, I'd be here every day without fail. Half sized soba/udon is only $3! Two pieces of inari, $1.50! Best place ever!!

Also, the husband wife team totally kicks butt. I've never waited very long in line. Ford's assembly line should take lessons from them.

Eating my soba as I write this -- this place is awesome,  Soba is packed full of goodness (fresh tofu, dried tofu, seaweed, fishcake).  The broth is not too salty - just perfect.
The service is awesome.

Other food - Their calamari salad is delicious.
The first time I went there I got the chicken teriyaki, which I didn't like too much, but I keep coming back for the soba.

Quick and yummy udon noodle soup! The large noodle soup (with everything) is tasty and don't even miss the fact that there is no meat! Also picked up a 6-piece sushi roll (california and unagi) - all this for $7. I will definitely be a regular! Service was super fast and friendly.

Half sized container of soba (or udon) for only $3.00?? I'm there!

Tasty--veggies, fishcake, tofu, and yummy, yummy hot broth.  (Also there is fried tempura on top, which I thought was gross, because well I don't like things that were once crisp to get soggy in my food, i.e. soggy cookies previously dipped in milk kind of thing.) *slurp slurp*

12 pieces of sushi (mixed variety) for under $6.00? Count me in... savory goodness! It was not hot, nor was it ice-cold.  Quality was great!

Yeah, my lunch was around $8 but it was oh so so good! :D

Total hole-in-a-wall place.  Owners = friendly, efficient and nice!
(They have other fun Japanese snack items too!)

Pay with cash! You won't regret spending a single red cent!   (Great find in the FiDi!)

Yo!

If you want authentic, affordable, and appetizing Japanese food, Yo Yo's is the place to grab a quick meal.

You can get the soba hot or old, udon, and California rolls (in big or small orders) and be out the door in a matter of minutes.

I've had the cold soba with the California rolls for about $5. Today I got seaweed salad and California rolls for $4 even. What a steal! Meet up with some friends to grab some fast, fresh food and walk over to a comfy spot to eat, as there is no seating in Yo Yo's.

Be aware, this place is cash only.

Such a great place for a quick lunch.. in fact I really miss it since i am no longer in the area.  The soba and udon are super yummy and really cheap.  My favorite (which I really miss) is the cold soba.. it is soooooo good and instead of the chili mix that they use to spice the hot soba, they put a dollop of wasabi in it!!! yuuuummmmmmmm

One of the best soba noodle soups I've ever tasted (it's a favorite menu choice and I order it out often).  The broth is rich and tasty. Salty? Well, of course it is. That salty goodness drives the flavor of each of the ingredients. If you're salt sensitive, you probably shouldn't eat soups out.

I can't imagine how anyone could rate this little gem based on their take-out sushi. It's so not the point of the place. I'm not going to rant here, but I challenge the nay sayers to try the soup!

Oh, and not for nothin', but the proprietors are among the nicest people serving food to snotty office workers in the Financial District. There, I said it!

One of my coworkers is a regular at Yo Yo's -- I've often seen her at her desk with a tall plastic container filled with steaming udon noodles, and I have to admit that I was a tad jealous. I figured that I would rally the forces and get a small crew of people together to make the quick trek a couple blocks from the office to check it out.  There was a slightly intimidating line out of the door, but it moved briskly. Before I knew it, I was standing at the front counter..torn with indecision (even with the fairly simple menu).

I ended up ordering the large portion of cold soba noodles in a light broth.  It was served with a slice of fish cake, some bean curd and cute lil' fried tempura batter balls, with a healthy dose of wasabi to kick up the intensity.  Oh, and I couldn't help but get the seaweed salad too, because it was insanely cheap!  And it was honestly, as good as what I've gotten at sit-down restaurants for 5 times the price!

Altogether, I only spent $6.60, and I had enough food for 2 meals...granted I wasn't particularly hungry today for some odd reason.

Yes, I'm going to be starting on my new Yo Yo diet! :)

Recipe for looking economically indisposable to five hungry execs:

4 California Rolls
4 Smoked Salmon rolls
5 Seaweed Salads
3 Edamame packs

1. Take sushi rolls out of individual packs and arrange on a clean, shiny platter. Arrange the supplied ginger and wasabi chunks in a puffy green and peach pattern.
2. Place edamame from all packs in a nice bowl, with an extra empty bowl next to it for shells.
3. Put seaweed salad into a bowl and mix with fork for that "freshly-tossed" look and add a fork for easy scooping.
4. Serve with a fresh pot of green tea to complete the gesture.
___________________
Total: $29.95

Outcome: Impressed compliments, possible raises (though not likely), job security for at least another week.

And then for feeding yourself:

1 veggie roll
1 edamame pack

1. Eat straight out of the plastic container, because you don't have to impress yourself.
--------------------------
Total: $3

Economical success!

The food is so yummy! It's super cheap for those that are on a budget and you do get what you pay for..so don't expect too much! The portion is huge and you can get a full meal with drink under $5!

I most definitely recommend it anyone who's in a rush and want something tasty and quick!

Had lunch here yesterday with an ex-FiDi regular and got some delicious soba noodles with everything in it. I recommend sprinkling a hefty amount of their chili powder that they have on the counter. My friend and I grabbed the only two seats and table available because we were too tired to walk to the park, but the generous helping of noodles gave me my second wind after a long day of shopping! I'll definitely be back in the near future and become one of those regulars they remember the names of.

Super Fast! I was literally in & out in less than 2 minutes.

There was no line today. I ordered udon and got some sushi. The sushi was just okay. I thought the salmon was fresh, but it turned out to be smoked salmon. I guess I should have looked more closely. Anyways, the udon with everything hit the spot for me. They put a lot of seaweed in there which I like, but the soup is really salty.

Overall good food and cheap too!

The only thing I recommend here is the soba or udon soups.  I've had the sushi and it's pretty average - something you can get at a Trader Joe's or upscale Safeway.  However, I'm still giving Yo Yo's four stars because they have a uniquely tasty soup, which I suspect contains msg but it's so good it's worth it.

The people that run the shop are super nice.  I once didn't have cash on me and forgot my wallet, so they told me to "just owe them for the next time."  That is genuinely good service.

It also takes about one minute to serve up, which is fantastic if you need to grab a quick bite to bring back to your desk.

The best thing about this place is the nice walk I get from my office on California St.

The second best thing about this place is the wakame salad at $1.75 a pop.

The third is the 1/2 order of Udon(or Soba) for  $2 and some change.

The fourth is 6 piece Cal Roll for $2 and some change.

The fifth is a giant daifuku (I would do anything to sit in a tub of An complete with mochi balls) for $1.25.

5 stars = convenient lunch = dreams of red bean paste mochi bath.

You 'Can't Play with my Yo-Yo'
don't try to play me out
don't try to play me out!
Remember that song--it was da' shit--just like this place is.

One bad thing about having a long holiday break from work is that I actually missed some of my daily lunch hangouts. The good thing is that I was able to visit some long lost places that aren't near my workplace, but still...

Thus, I dedicate my first review in 2009 to Yo Yo's. This place has lifted my spirits when I have been down, fed me when I was close to broke. Thanks to Yo Yo's for great lunches in 2008 and looking forward to many more this year.

I was craving some soba in that yummy broth with seaweed and fresh tofu as I was walking my freezing butt to work this morning. Oh and the marinated squid is sooo good, too. Goes perfect with the noodles.

I've also added chicken teriyaki to my noodles and sometimes grab the edamame for protein as well. The seaweed salad is as good or better than at other Japanese places and it's only $1.25!

Today there was a long line (because it's so damn cold outside) but we got in and out in 10 minutes max. Great price for great food and service!

This place is good if you just want to grab something quick and cheap for lunch.  I usually grab two things, and it'll still come out to just $5!

It's a small mom and pop shop, so don't expect a sit-down area.  It's a grab and go joint.

Their menu consist of about 5 things (give or take): udon, soba, teriyaki rice plate, sushi, and side dish (ie: edamame, seaweed salad).

The udon is decent, if you just want some noodle and soup.  The ingredients is nothing fancy.  Just seaweed, noodles, tofu and some fish cake slices.  But it does the job if you want something warm and comforting.

Their sushi is not too great......

I've never tried the seaweed salad, but from all the reviews, it looks like I'll be giving that a try soon.

Nice couple that runs the place.  Very fast and polite.

Authentic Japanese food - soba, udon, teriyaki, and various sushi rolls - served with impeccable customer service for cheap!  Yoyo's is a FiDi lunch staple.  You can get a filling, tasty, and healthy meal for around five bucks.  Can't beat that  The broth is quite flavorful, with crunchy little tempura flakes and seaweed to complement the miso flavor. A true mom-and-pop operation, the owners do everything themselves, super-efficiently and always with a smile.  The antithesis to snooty, expensive lunch spots in the FiDi!

Tempted to give this little hole-in-the-wall a try, after reading various reviews on yelp. Ordered a 6-piece sushi consists of 2 smoked salmon rolls, 2 cali rolls, and 2 unagi rolls-- all for just $2.45
The portion is just right for a girl who needs a light lunch, and I must say, the sushi is not bad at all.
Since I didn't try anything else on the menu, I'm giving it a 3-star first.
Look for my reviews in the upcoming months...

If you are trying watching that waistline like me, and can't afford Jenny Craig, I suggest the Yo Yo's lunchtime diet.

When I don't bring my lunch I just go to Yo Yo's. Even if it's 2 or 3 days in a row, I'll still go to Yo Yo's. It's DIRT CHEAP and so delicious. (The extremely low price makes it taste deliciouser)

For a low-cal but filling lunch :

Large Soba with Fresh Tofu and extra Seaweed (seaweed has next to no calories btw)

or

Small Soba with Fresh Tofu and extra Seaweed + a seaweed salad / edamame OR a 6-piece veggie sushi.

I rarely spend more than $6 and everything tastes fresh and the husband/wife team are super friendly and they try to memorize your order.

This place is yummy. The udon is fantastic. Listen to the owner and get everything in it. It's so much better than the udon I eat at restaurants. The sushi was alright. Same as other places. The seaweed salad was a delicious. The owners were really friendly. If you plan on coming and eating here, think again. Its a pretty small place so it's more of to go. I like that theres not too much items on their menu, otherwise it would take forever to order. A bad thing is that theres no open or closed time in front of the store. I came again at 4:00pm and it was closed ='[.

For lunch I got  1/2 order of udon, 1 order of udon, 6 pieces of california roll. and a seasweed salad for $11. Super cheap for 2 people. =]

I've been to Yo Yos countless times and have never figured out what makes the udon and soba noodle soups so addictive. I've never asked the wife and husband owners of this take-out place if they use MSG but part of me doesn't want to know the answer to that question.

Yo Yos is the best "bang for your buck" for lunch. The only other place with a better deal is Subway and we all know how that can get old fast... I would recommend getting the Udon soup without tempura as it gets soggy in the soup and any of their rolls. Don't expect the best sushi ever but for a soup and sushi combo of $5, you really can't complain! They also have wakame salad, chicken teriyaki and a decent assortment of drinks and japanese snacks.

Tried their hot soba with all contents and a seaweed salad.  The noodle texture is not top-notch, but the soup is quite tasty.  Overall felt a little too oily on my lips.  Maybe I will skip the tempura balls next time to see if it helps. The seaweed salad is very good too.

Just like the other said, the price is unbeatable.  My rating is more like 3.5 stars. Still have to try the terriyaki chicken and sushi next time to give a complete verdict.

Hands Down the cheapest place in the area...the customer service (as other Yelpers have noted) is top notch - the couple that runs the place are so adorable and sweet.

The soup is my favorite - it's all made to order and ToGo only - perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat.
I wouldn't say that it's the best sushi that I've ever had - but it's much better and cheaper than any grocery store product.

I've never seen anyone pay more than $5 at this place - but the owners treat you like their most important customer every time.

NOTE: The Udon has a fish based broth...so it's not vegetarian friendly even if you get just Tofu or plain with Bean Curd.
However, their Tofu Inari is delicious and PACKED full of rice.

This is another one of my stops on the "I'm waiting for payday to arrive, but didn't bring lunch to work today" train. Yo Yo's cannot be beat when it comes down to prices for the food.  This is easily one of my fa

The udon is definitely the way to go.  I usually grab a large udon with everything and put a little bit of pepper on it.  When I'm really hungry I'll grab a California roll or something.  The rolls are great, especially for the price and I definitely like to support the little mom and pop versus Safeway down the street.  Plus, the prices are cheaper than Safeway.  Most recently, I tried their chicken teriyaki bowl/plate and I absolutely enjoyed it.  I brought it back to work so that I could eat at my desk (busy day) and 3 people in the office asked what that great smell was and ended up going to Yo Yo's too.

I am definitely a fan of Yo Yo's from the food to the prices and the friendly owners.

At first I was pretty pumped to find a new lunch spot in the area. Great bang for buck compared to other local spots. But it didn't sit too well with me afterwards. The little balls floating on the top of the soba soup? Those are tempura balls. They will give you a stomach ache. Going to give it another go with just soba, seaweed and tofu with no extras and see how it goes!

It really doesn't get better than this.  1 roll and 1 order of wakame salad and I walked out with my lunch and my wallet just $3.95 lighter.  It's such a steal.

Service was fast, efficient and the owners were super nice.  One lady walked in and asked if there were more wakame salad and the lady that worked there apologized and thanked the customer for reminding her to put out more food.  OMG, this type of service in a mom and pop store.  They deserve extra star for that.

Chicken teriyaki is a bit dry, but the portions are big.  Selection is few, they only have some sushi, wakame salad, chicken teriyaki, udon and soba.  I think that is their entire menu.  But I really can't complain.  It's not like I come here everyday, but once a week, I think I will drop by to have some salad and sushi!!!

Right next door to my office, friendly owners, average quality food, and super super super cheap prices.

Their soup dishes are great for the prices (under $5 for a 1/2 or full size).  They have VERY basic sushi rolls (inari, kappa, california).  It would be more appealing if the sushi packages were placed in a refrigerated compartment instead of sitting out on the counter all day.  It doesn't stop me from ordering the sushi, though-- it's SO cheap and I've never had a tummy ache.  I also love their wakame salad.  It's just as yummy as any gourmet sushi restaurant.  I've never tried the teriyaki, but I'm always in a line of people who can't get enough of the stuff.

Customer service is impeccable.  The couple who run the place are absolute sweethearts, never make a mistake, and are very speedy!

Writing this review is making me crave some Yo Yo's.   I think I'll grab some for lunch today... toodles!  =)
