This place is my favorite discovery in LA.
I'm about to go back for the 3rd or 4th time.
The acupuncture students do an amazing job and the cost is low enough (Around $35 for returning clients) that everyone can benefit from their services....
I was able to see a total of 3 acupuncturists in one visit, as they were consulting about my condition (liver problems). They included me in all the discussions and made me feel that I was just as important to my healing as they were, which is not typical in allopathic clinics....
My visits there kind of make me want to study acupuncture.
The needles didn't hurt at all, and the entire process was gentle and easy, so if it's your first time, you will have a great experience.
The waiting room is very comfortable and stylish, and the staff is courteous and kind. -

Clinical intern Elisa Fon has taken great care to be both genial and effective - way better results that I could have ever hoped for in making strides against my severe chronic insomnia.
Parking is rather annoying though! -

Really is a gem!!
Tonight was my first visit and I will definitely be coming back! The staff was wonderful and the treatment was great. I am not expecting to be better tomorrow morning, but in time I know these treatments will help! -

There are folks out there who have stories about a dr who had saved their lives, and now I am one of them. The beyond amazing Dr Wing helped resolve my pneumonia and pancreatis and continues to work on many chronic health conditions I've saddled myself with over the years. I cannot say enough about him, or the clinic. My wife, once a critic and skeptic of Chinese Medicine now swears by the place. Our brave daughter, at the tender age of seven, had a prolonged cough that disappeared after one treatment with Wing (so no excuse on being wimpy with needles-if a seven year old girl can do it....)
The front office staff is awesome and patient. The students at this clinic are attending the #1 school of TCM in the state. Each year, Yo San has the highest number of graduates who pass the super challenging state license exam in Sacramento.
Out of all of the places I've reviewed on Yelp, this one brings out the most emotion because of the incredible difference it's made on my health and well being. Starting next year, my family and I will partake on their tai chi/qigong classes. To go from screaming in a hospital bed to taking ownership of my health is quite an evolution, and it would not have happened were it not for Yo San and Dr Wing -

Yo San University is a great place that allows one to feel at home. It is a sanctuary that provides the expertise of acupuncture and chinese medicine combined with the radiance of spirit. The healing work that goes on in clinic is inspired and will reach into your soul and bring to light those things hiding from yourself in order to facilitate greater healing and wholeness. The people at Yo San and the Legacy of the Ni Family make this place one in which you come away feeling feed physically, spiritually and mentally.

Great school and amazing place. The Clinic is awesome and with staff like Phyllis and a Clinic Manager like Albert Vaca you can't go wrong. Customer Service is great and with such an amazing Academic Institution behind the services, you get the best Acupuncture for the cost as well. Get in and get your healing on!

I can't say enough good things about the Yo San Clinic. I've been a patient there for a little over a year. My wife started going at the recommendation of a friend. The Accupuncturist, The Amazing Dr. Wing, did such and amazing job treating Mindy that I had to go and see him myself.
Initially, I went for Planar Fasciitis treatments. Amazing how two needles can take away incredible pain. Since then, Wing's treatment have cleared up chronic acne (the kind that even Accutane couldn't remedy), stress, back pain and probably a gillion other things.
Really, a fantastic place. The students, practitioners and staff are all really great, genuine people. Special thanks to Becky, the woman who keeps the wheels on the truck and makes me feel welcome every time I'm there.
Now that I've reviewed it, I really hope you Yelpers won't spoil it... -

This place is seriously saving my sanity and potentially my life. I was diagnosed with a 4mm pituitary tumor which has been wreaking havoc on my lady parts. No ovulation. No period. Plus wild fluctuations in my hormones. For 8 months. I was feeling like an unnatural woman. 8 months of western medicine did nothing for me. After 1 acupuncture visit and 4 days of the herbs my doctor prescribed, I was bleeding like a stuck hog. My point, other than to gross out anybody with dangling parts who happens to be reading this and also happens to not know that all women bleed or have bled once a month at some point?
These people are saving my life. On the reals.
Oh and they cleared up my allergies and sinuses. I ain't breathed this good since the year 2K.
It's not true that you have to see an intern. My doctor is not an intern (I think my medical situation is too serious to trust to an intern.) You can see a "real" doctor for 70 bucks or a supervised intern for 50. I hear the interns are just as good. Just not for me. Maybe if I was going for back or muscle pain or something.... -

I love this place. Before 18 months ago, I never had anything to do with Acupuncture and certainly nothing to do with cupping. I actually went to YoSan for other reasons, but shortly after going there, my chronic upper back pain that I had for 25+ years went away in a few months. After that I was going like every 6-8 weeks "for maintenance." It's now 18 months later, but the pain is starting to creep back in. i think i need to go every 2 weeks until the pain is manageable again, then maybe once a month.
Overall, I am so happy with YoSan and so happy to get the opportunity to experience acupuncture and cupping. For me, it's been a real life-saver. -

Love Yo-san! I've been coming here for a couple years now and it's great. Acupuncture has really improved my circulation, amongst other things. It takes times, but with consistency, you will see improvement for a variety of ailments.
The staff is friendly and the students are eager to please and all pretty decent with the needles. I almost always get a different intern when I come, which is usually once a month, and have not had a bad experience. They are always accommodating and make sure you are comfortable.
Once inside the room, you are asked a series of questions about your general health and whatever ails you, then you're ready. Make sure you ask for the heater for your feet....unless it is a really hot day, you will get cold on your cot! The place is very clean, and the tea in the waiting room is delicious!! Pricing is very good, $50 for first session and $35 thereafter.
There's a pay parking lot on the side of the building, about $2-3, but I usually find street parking. Just check the signs, one hour parking, depends on the time of day you go. There's a great Mediterranean place down the street called Gaby's, chicken is great there! -

I moved to Los Angeles in 2003 from NYC and had a heck of a time trying to replace all of my prevention health practitioners. From massage, chiropractic and acupuncture I was not pleased with what I had found in Los Angeles. After years of trying different services from multiple practitioners I began to find a comfort in the individuals that I chose to stay with. Katya Mosely is one of them. I have had issues with pain in my back and knees and I know when someone can pin point my condition or if they are just going through the motions. Katya takes her time to find out your history and habits and concentrates on the specific area that you need attention. She is very knowledgable and has a great touch with her acupuncture placement. I enjoy coming to her for my treatments and I recommend her to anyone interested in acupuncture that I come in contact with. I am very happy I found her.

Great price. $35/visit if you see an intern. They are mostly good and they listen and are attentive. The supervisor comes in and confirms/instructs which points to put needles on. I feel relief immediately after session. Until I can afford expensive acupuncture treatments or when my insurance finally covers it, I don't mind coming here at all. They prescribe herbs too.

Review from Tara C.
Yeah, it probably seems weird to people who really know me, but I gave acupuncture a try, about 8 months ago. I was desperate to fix my insomnia and lack of energy, and thought I'd give alternative medicine a shot. I'm adventurous and figured it couldn't hurt (much) right? Based on Yelp reviews, Yo-San University Clinic seemed like a good place for me to start, since they have low fees, a friendly student staff, and a convenient location. My first visit wasn't bad. The clinic is very peaceful and pleasant, with a delicious herbal tea in the waiting area. I had a male practitioner (forget his name), who was a recent graduate from their program, and he seemed to know his stuff. They ask a ton of questions on your first visit, to understand your lifestyle, diagnose what is bothering you, and then determine the best course of treatment. Then they get out the needles. The irony is, I dislike needles (i know, I know- first my piercings and now acupuncture- I must be a masochist). At least these needles are very tiny. But still, it kinda icked me out. The theory is that acupuncture can open up blocked energy channels which may be causing pain, depression, etc. Let your "qi" flow, and whatnot. The acupuncturist first places the needles in the location he wants, then gives them a tap to stick them in place. Then they might twist them a little to get them in just right. Me no likey. At least that guy was quick and relatively painless. I still felt them, and I even got a tiny bruise on my shin from one, but it wasn't torture or anything. I even thought maybe I felt a little better after that first visit.
HOWEVER, on my second visit, I couldn't get that same guy and had a young woman work on me. Can't remember her name, but she may just be a sadist. She injured a freakin' nerve in my HAND! I felt soreness in my hand for a whole week after that visit! And the needles she put in my head had me bleeding- a lot! Bruises all over! She also had a diagnosis that was completely different from the first guy and just generally did not seem to know her stuff. I was pretty pissed off, but decided to give them one last chance, as long as it was with the first guy. I went back to him, but really I wasn't loving the whole acupuncture thing by that point. Being a pincushion was not making me feel better. The one impressive thing he did was when I had a stiff neck on my second visit, the guy placed a couple needles in a certain spots on my neck and clavicle. Boom- no more stiff neck. Very interesting. But even that nifty trick didn't win me over as an acupuncture devotee. However, this review is not to meant to devalue the practice of acupuncture- I hear it works for some people- but more to review the facilities and practitioners at Yo-San. Basically, if you get someone good, STICK WITH THEM. If you encounter crazy Pinhead-lady, run. -

Jeffrey is the greatest! Gentle, thorough, caring. This clinic is good in general but it is often hard to get back in to see the same person.

I think everyone should try acupuncture at least once, and the Community Clinic at Yo San University is always my first recommendation for newbies to the field. Since I have always been interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and I've been a guinea pig at almost every University Clinic in So Cal, Yo San is still my top pick. For example, some of the other clinics I've visited have "rooms" that are only separated by curtains and since an acupuncture visit is like a visit to a M.D., there are things discussed that you don't even want the doctor in front of you to know... not to mention the 4 nearby patients! Yo San's Clinic has separate rooms with doors, so it is more private. There is also a full herbal pharmacy where you have the option of getting "the old school" paper packet of herbs where you brew it into tea at home or "the new school" packaged herbal formula in easy-to-take tablets. * Note: I've always heard that "the old school" method works better and faster. But, if you know you can't stomach funky tasting tea, save yourself the dough and get the tablets.
A few things to know before you go:
1. Even though you have the option of seeing a Licensed Acupuncturist, I always choose to see an Intern. This is a teaching clinic, so you are actually doing them a favor by offering up your health care woes. They are in at least their 3rd year of study at the University, but they are still learning and establishing their technique. If something hurts or is uncomfortable, let them know! They are there to learn. And vice versa, since they are interns, you are getting a terrifically discounted rate for acupuncture... licensed acupuncturists charge $80 and up for an hour (of which they will only be in the room with you maybe 15 min of that hour.) With an intern, you get their undivided attention, and there will always be a licensed acupuncturist/professor supervising them. Even though the trade-off is years of experience, I still choose to see interns for my treatments.
2. First visit is 2 hours and costs $50. This is where you go over your full medical history with the intern and they ask you all sorts of questions where you will probably be saying, "Do they really need to know that?!?" They do... so fess up!
3. Return visits are 1 hour and $30.
4. When I first started getting acupuncture, I would faint when they would put more than 4 needles in me. I've improved much over the years, but if you are a wuss like me, just let the intern know and they will take good care of you.
5. The needles are typically the thickness of a human hair and won't cause you to bleed. When the needle is inserted, it's more of a "sensation" than a "pain." But, if something hurts, or is unbearable, let the intern know!
It's best to pay by cash or check (the clinic applies a service charge for plastic.) There is street parking, but watch the signs... if you are there for your 1st appointment which is 2 hours, beware of the "1 hr pkg" streets. Good luck & have fun! -

In my opinion this clinic is run by very incompetent staff and management. I was scheduled for an appointment and when I showed up was told my appointment isn't until tomorrow. When I showed up the next day I am told my acupuncturist called in sick. It would have been nice to at least call me and inform me of that and they didn't even try to remedy the situation. They've lost a patient.

Well, I hate to be the bubble burster of the great reviews, but hey, it's how I feel. I was strongly recommended by my doctor to try Acupuncture and at Yo San. There's good and bad to this review.
The good: the student docs try very hard. I am terrified of needles and they were very nice and calm, which in turn made me calm and hey, those needles not so bad after all.
The bad: 1) Sometimes a needle is put where it shouldn't be apparently and it's a little uncomfortable yelling "hello, anyone out there". 2) The real docs couldn't make up their minds on my different visits. One said that I serious heart problems, the other said I had other problems, and then they even contradicted themselves. Look, I don't expect a miracle but frankly they scared me so much I went back to my regular doctor to get another check up. Turns out, I'm not going to die.
So, will I give acupuncture another try, yes, but not here. -

I'm a huge fan of Acupuncture and the healing it can bring for everything. I have practiced TCM as my primary form of healthcare since 1994. I discovered Yo San in 2003 and have been going ever since. I've seen interns and doctors here, all of whom have brought me relief. I've gone in for things like a banged knee, stress, migraines, and the flu. I even did a series of Acupuncture Facials with Alexa (ladies, you've GOT to try this - more immediate and noticeable results than a regular facial!) I've seen private doctors in LA & the SF Bay area, but Yo San's clinic provides me the best flexibility with their hours, lots of doctors/interns, and an in house herbalist so I can walk out with my prescription. It's just great.

I took my pregnant & very morning sick sister here for acupunture. We saw Becky (bc Claire from Mystic Journey Bookstore recommended her) and Becky was AMAZING!
She is such a sweetheart, incredibly gifted with a lovely gentle bedside manner. Her supervisor was also great - a real character, with magic hands for tense bodies.
Becky is also pregnant herself so she came with an extra qualification as far as my sister was concerned.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! What a wonderful nurturing experience! I'll be back for acupuncture myself! -

I went here about 10 times.... at first I was attracted to this place because of the low prices (it was $30 when I went)... if you don't mind being a guinea pig for students learning their trade (you get worked on by interns, who are really very good) then it's a great low-cost option for acupuncture.

Unbelievable experience! First time doing accupuncture, loved every minute of it! Got a same-day appointment (probably not common), spent $50 to see an intern for 2 hours and got an extra 15 minutes because she thought I needed the needles in there a little longer. The upper-right quadrant of my back is always tight and in pain, but now less than half the amount after just 20 minutes with Grace (intern). Supervisor was great and I really felt like they both listened to me and worked on exactly what needed to be worked on. Big bonus is that I can walk here and that paying their fees is cheaper than paying my copay for a Western medicine physician. Have another appointment next week and can't wait!

I've been here at least 15 times and love it. If it was closer to my house I'd go more often but I hate the drive - only 14 miles from me, but the commute takes about an hour each way. I've seen about 6 intern students there and while I have my favorites, I thought they were all good. I have problems from time to time with sinus pain and nothing helps me like acupuncture. The atmosphere is pretty austere, yet pleasant - they usually play soothing Asian music during my treatment, which helps me to relax and thus makes the results better. I love talking to the students because they like talking about TCM and other related spirtitual matters - I love learning new stuff. I'm not a fan of needles at all (have come close to fainting more than once while giving blood) but the needles here have never bothered me and I usually get around 20. The cost is only $30 (another $10 or so for herbs if you need them. They can make the nasty-taking herbs into tablets, which I always have them do as the tea form is unbearable to me). And they've got some free tea (not nasty-tasting!) in the waiting room which is very calming - another plus. I also love the little bookstore next door to the clinic where I got a great ring for applying accupressure to my finger for only $1. After experiencing pain and bruising at Samra U's clinic, I appreciate Yo San more than ever. I always leave in way less pain than when I arrived and I always feel like I learned something new.

I totally dig this place, and it's right down the street from my new apartment. $35 per session. The supervisor always comes in to check on the diagnosis so it's a team effort, and although the students are of varying experience it's always been positive for me. The bad reviews here seem to be from people new to acupuncture. I would never suggest someone who's not comfortable with the idea to go to a school clinic. If you're looking for affordable acupuncture this is a great place !!!!

You can not go wrong with these folks. The best !!! I have chronic phlegm and one treatnment was able to wipe out my symptoms for a few days...where nothing else could. I was able to sing again which I had not been able to do for months. Since it is a chronic problem I will have to make some very big changes in my life...but these folks were the only one's to make it go away completely ...even if only for a few days. Amazing!
