I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love crepes.

I love overly friendly services.

I love the decor. So frenchy. So open. Literally, no windows, with the wind blowing gently into this dainty little place.

This place makes me feel high.

It made me want to bring all my posse here. And then get a new posse and bring THEM here.

I would give this 1 star but then it would seem like I am exaggerating and no one would believe me.  I have given this place 3 tries and the experiences have been progressively worse and worse.

The first was good; We were allowed to BYOB our own champagne and they accomodated that.  Food was good.  Service acceptable.

However every time I go, and maybe its a vendetta against me for some reason (I work in restaurants so I know I am not a bad patron; I'm actually an over tipper and overly patient with servers to a fault).  They are slow, the woman seems nice but then you realize she's A)ALWAYS partial to her euro trash friends and B) condescending as *&^%.  I KNOW what a croque monsieur is, thank you.

The last time I went I literally, no joke, asked for the bill 3 times from the waitress, twice from the "friendly" (ha!) Parisian owner, and had to THEN go up to the counter and ask and WAIT while she wrote out our bill.  Never once did we get a "sorry" - They were for some reason avoiding us.  Totally unacceptable and rude.  I am sure they don't like being asked more than once or twice for a bill, but about 10 min. went by, again no exaggeration, each time.  It was not busy to be that bad of service.  I had a friend in town and it was embarrassing.

Never again.  Save yourself the risk and go to a place that KNOWS service, good food, and friendliness and go to Itzocan.  Even La Gallette, which has the slowest service ever, is better since they apologize for it, the food is WORTH the wait and the owners are the sweetest Senegalese people.  Not typical snobby Parisians. BOO!

Boom. My favorite brunch place.

Owner is really nice and very helpful in picking out the right food. Almost too much detail but in this world, there's never enough.

Food was prepared very elegantly and the vinaigrette on the side salad was zesty and very fresh. I have absolutely no complaints and highly recommend.

Mixed Feelings...

Ate brunch here and though the place was cute and cozy, the truffle croque madame was just average and I didn't taste the truffle. The owner was friendly and the service was good- I'll return to try the crepes.

This place is delicious and refreshingly authentic. I came here for a Sunday brunch after eyeing it for about a month. It is going to be part of a neighborhood revitalization. It is small and cozy, the service is great, and, contrary to one of the two-star raters, they let you enjoy your meal and stay to finish it, without rushing you out the door, meaning if the check doesn't come when you demand it, you can finish your delicious coffee. There is no euro-trash, and the owner of the restaurant is wonderfully hospitable.

Now to the food - the crepes are wonderful. I had the complete (french ham, gruyere, sunny-side up egg). I used to order this when I lived in Paris, and it tastes just as I remember. My friend had the eggs florentine, a croissant (baked on premises), and the pear tarte. All delicious. I also had a chocolate croissant and, yes, it was delicious.

I would recommend this to anyone looking to try something new for brunch. I cannot wait to return!

disappointed!

I wanted to like this place, been eying it for months, sadly, it was a huge let down. Pricey and food is just awful--flavors do not mesh well with each other and I was left wondering if in the attempt to make the food fancy whether the chef gave up half way through the dish--the result: a mish mash of flavors gone awry filled with plenty of imagination but which ultimately lack definition and good sense.

I've been there three times and here is my consistent experience:

-Good food (good menu, well prepared).
-Nice ambiance.
-Weak to mixed service

While they can be friendly and helpful in choosing menu items, general attentiveness is lacking.    Be prepared to nag them for a table, a menu, and the check.

Despite the positives, I haven't returned in a while because each visit requires more nagging and patience than most ny restaurants.

Net story - Yo In...Yo Nag...Yo Out!

Terrible name, I know, but it's an adorable, breezy cafe with a welcoming French owner who basically does everything from taking orders to plating and serving.  I had the "La Complete" crepe, which was delicious and quite filling, if somewhat different from versions I've had before in that the crepe itself was notably crispy.  The side salad that tagged along for the ride was also quite good.  I will definitely return, as I have no excuse not to - it's in my neighborhood!  I can claim that there's a real French cafe in *my* neighborhood! +10 Yuppie Cred, etc.

I love this place. The location is up and coming, the decor is french contemporary, and the music is modern fusion. The specials are ever-changing, the menu is littered with french classics and american dishes with a french twist. The macaroni and cheese is to die for, and the soups and salads are perfect for lunch. The desserts are amazing and everything is made fresh to order. Although I haven't actually had a crepe at this place, everyone I know that orders them absolutely loves them. The portions are decent, although sometimes the prices are a little expensive. Be prepared for an extended dining experience, though, because the service is less than fabulous. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed, and the waitresses convey this sense of calm through their less than attentive service. I keep coming back, though, so they must be doing something right.

The food here is almost consistently great and the desserts are there shining star.  I dream about the raspberry mousse cake.  It's also great that they are a BYOB place where you can take a great bottle of wine and enjoy a fabulous meal for a reasonable price.
My only gripe is that they have raised their prices on some of the smaller items several times in the last few months and it's no longer a bargain, but I have to admit it's still worth it because the food is just so darn good!

The eggs florentine were magnifique.
The eggs Norwegian were tres bien.
The owner is delightful.Very accommodating.Very friendly.
The space is small but has a variety of seating, booth along the wall, small tables and a living room setup in front of the open windows.
Even the bathroom is adorable, with lit candles,a mural and an antique vanity.

The only downside was that because it is so small, when it got crowded, the noise level began to become uncomfortable and , more importantly,we felt rushed to leave. Important to note that it was not by the owner but by wait service that brought us our check and then quickly came around again.Especially bad since we had carried our laptops from waaaaay uptown, thinking we would be able to chill.

Overall, it was a nice place and definitely worth checking out if you are anywhere near the gentrifying Barrio.

4 Stars for the owners.

We had spent the morning at the Museum of The City of New York and had a couple of places lined up for lunch. We first made our way to the East Harlem Café but the area didn't feel exactly relaxing and the Café although very pleasent wasn't shouting out come in and eat so to get to the point we ended up a few blocks south at Yo In Yo Out. The exterior was very welcoming and the co owner (French sisters) was delightful. She asked if we'd been before, we hadn't, so she ran us through the menu and recommended a few things. Even with the church across the street having a evangelical street preaching session we loved the atmosphere and the owners enthusiasm. We had a very nice marinated shrimp salad and a Provencal crepe and ended with a desert taster selection which was delicious. It was also great value.

In full disclosure, I am biased - the folks who work here have an awesome, super sexy French accent. Yeap, they are from Paris but they have smartly and so brilliantly left the supposed attitude at home.

They are a wonderful cafe that serves crepes, salads, coffee and desserts. haven't had anything here that was not decently priced and freaking delicious. Mmmmm.
Notable treats - Homemade tiramisu (traditional), homemade pana cotta, pistachio tiramisu, mmm chocolate chip cookies, pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant).
On the savory front, the mushroom crepe is a full blown winner.

Merci Nicola!
Free wireless unheard of space! French decor (cute guy included). I'll def trek back here from the UWS!

The Chipotle sandwich is dominant.  The owners are gorgeous, lovely people - always go the extra mile to secure your happiness.  I haven't tried any dinner items yet but I'm in there at least once a week for a sammy or coffee.  I was thrilled when this place opened up, the gentrification of "French Harlem" (meme Copyright 2009 by Jiegel) continues!

Itzocan wasn't open for brunch on Memorial Day, so we decided to try the new place with no awning, even though Rachael Ray was on their TV. Yuck.

Thankfully, Rachael was muted, and I'd forgotten about her by the time the coffee came. The adorable woman (owner? manager?) working the register beamed at us and proudly told us about the made-daily crepes and anytime brunch special: choice of egg dish + baguette, butter, preserves + coffee/tea/fresh oj for $8.
Somehow I was distracted from the steal of the century, and I ordered the St. Barth's crepe with portobellos and herbed goat cheese (they tragically forgot the arugula). Pretty good, served with greens, nice tart vinaigrette. The croque madame with truffle bechamel was adequate, but a little disappointing for being the priciest thing on the menu.
The not-strong-enough coffee came with refills and the forgivable price of $1.

Service was lovely and prompt.

It's great to have another decent food option in the neighborhood, and I'm sure I'll drop in again.

I had breakfast at this wonderful new place last week. For a newer establishment in East Harlem on a random weekday in the A.M, I was surprised to see the place half full. The service was very welcoming and responsive. This is the place where you can start waking up from a long night of ...whatever it is that you do that makes your nights long, and read a newspaper or check your email as you sip your tea or coffee and wait for some great food. My morning treat was prepared and served promptly. I ordered eggs Florentine, pancakes, a baguette that was served with two types of delicious jelly, jasmine tea, and orange juice. I was loving everything. It was such a perfect breakfast and it definitely hit the spot. My bill came out to less than $6.00. WOW!
That's what I'm talking about. I'll be back.

A chalkboard framed with little lights sits on the sidewalk outside the large windows of this new French Bistro that has just opened along the ever northward-moving border of El Barrio.  It says "Come in!"  I obey, and now whatever it commands, I will follow.

There's your choice of seating at either the bar (sorry no alcohol here); the plush corner of black couches and sophisticated orange and bright pillows; or to the right at one of the intimate tables for two (that can be joined to make any number you need).  Candle-light and fresh flowers give a romantic and tasteful touch to this clean, earthy, and comfortable small to mid-size restaurant.

The specials that night sounded tempting --there was a salmon dish, a spinach ravioli, and a duck, but unfortunately we were a bit full already.  We did not eat much, but it left our mouths watering for more.  I don't remember the french name, but it was a healthy portion of fresh mixed greens dressed in a honey-lemony balsamic mixture with slices of french baguette smothered in sweet, mild goat cheese.  We also ordered a chacacuterie (sp?) or a sampling of meats that was a delicious meat paté, better than salami-looking meat, and a tastier than baloney-looking meat --this all came with plenty of tangy miniature pickles & a fresh dijon mustard.  All the sliced french baguettes we wanted were carried over in baskets by our handsome and sweet waiter.  We topped it off with $1.00 coffees that had the earthiest sweetest aroma.

The best part: the most expensive dish on the menu is $12.00.  This is food for the people.  I hope they keep it this way!  And this is why I share it with you --it is rare that I write about restaurants because I am selfish, I keep the best to myself.  However, this place is brand new and I was relieved but a little nervous that Valentine's Day was so quiet at this charming new place.  I want it to be around for a while.

I am waiting to add the 5th star after I visit one more time and hear some better music.  On Saturday, it was a mixture of fitting-french jazz and some unidentifiable techno.  Though it's hard for Yo In Yo Out to get much wrong, some joyful and cinematic Ramsey Lewis or even some romantic French accordion would make it near perfect.

Briilant French food!! I've eaten french food in France many times and this is as close as it gets to the real deal. Freshly baked croissants and Brie from the oven. Amazing orange juice and thier coffee and desserts rock. The blonde who manages the place is very pretty too.

I came here on a nice sunny afternoon.  The place was cozy and the windows opened up so we could get a patio-like feeling inside the restaurant.  I ordered La Complete-crepes with gruyere and jabon blanco.  Delish.  I love savory things and it sure hit the spot.  The waitress/owner was very friendly and she really recommended things to all my friends.  I tried my friend's house-melted chocolate milk, and it was fantastic!

In a very serendipitous  way, we stumbled upon this cute little bistro in East Harlem.  We of course were in search of coffee and some little giblets to fill out stomachs. And Yo In and Yo Out was the place to be.  it was packed. Amazing for an establishment who has only been open for 3 weeks.   We got  some baked eggs with OJ and coffee for $7. That's just unheard of for brunch.  Food is good and the price is just right.

Simply the Best.
I lived in this East Harlem for more than 5 years & this is exactly what everyone was looking for. What a great French Cafe, They open at 6am,
you can get the best croissant & coffee in the all block !!
The place by it self is beautifull, very charming, wood tables, a sofa with coffee table, the handsome staff is super attentioned and very plaisant.
The Food is just Amazing. A French oriented Joy.
The menu give you a choice of fabulous Crepes, awsome paninis, and delicius salades, You should try also the salmon with littles veggies (It's a 5*). Of course (you have to) get a desert, fresh made creme brulee, panacota or crepe au Nutella...more & more.
The bagette is as good as it can get and the daily specials changes everyday.
What a great find. Definitivly come back and bring in some freinds.

This place is great!  I'm not sure why people gave it 3 stars just because it's not open at the crack of dawn, but normal operating hours aside, this place is wonderful!  The price is perfect and the food is a delightful mix from the usual pizza or burger options.
