Best food in harbor springs. It is $$$ but is also 5 star.
Private club, but really excellent cocktails and food.
I've been lucky to be invited a couple of times and have my fingers crossed I will be invited again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer W.Covington, OH048Jun 24, 2019

If you're in the mood to put on a dinner jacket or dress up in heels, the depot is a lot of fun. The dining room is the beautifully restored old one-room train station, with wood paneled walls and a horseshoe bar with plush leather bar chairs. (If you're obsessed with Hemingway, this station is where he & his family would catch the train to Petoskey on their way to Walloon.) Despite the heavy wood and library-like interior, the space is light and bright in the evening before the sun goes down. Summerers abound here -- everyone who comes in knows just about everyone else.
The food is certainly some of the best in the area. The chef (formerly the Crow's Nest chef/owner) makes the best perch in northern Michigan. Crab cakes could have used slightly less breading and my martini could have used a little more vermouth. Overall, the menu is more creative than usual in this part of the world -- there's ceviche and grilled artichokes and oysters and pheasant but no whitefish, for example, which is a total relief. Every restaurant in town serves the same (delicious, but boring) planked whitefish.
The service is warm and cheerful and attentive. This is a well-trained, seasoned staff who know about the food they're serving and do everything possible to make you happy. Thanks, staff!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chad C.Detroit, MI12565Jul 24, 2012
The place to go in the Harbor Springs/Petoskey area when you feel like dressing up a little. Men, all you need to do is bring a jacket. And even if you don't, there is an outside area where casual is king...if you can get a seat during the short summer season up there.
You've found your spot if you want to impress family or guests. The place is laid-back swanky. The intimate place is first-class all the way...I mean brass-appointments-on-the-urinals first-class!
Great cocktails are to be had at the impressive bar, along with a knowledgeable staff who aim to please! A great addition to an area where fine dining has not been so fine.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Shelly K.Phoenix, AZ631111Aug 1, 2012
This place was horrible. It started with the waitress who was slow, rude and needed to clean her nose. ( seriously disgusting) I ordered perch and we all called it trojan perch( rubber) I ordered a steak after and it was $28 for a tough unflavored steak. We were with a party of 8 and everyone was pretty disappointed. The caprese salad was so tiny and expensive. The Pier is much much better. This place was over priced for bad bad food. If possibly to give a 0 I would. Yuck

Guaranteed, this place won't exist in two years. The words that come to mind are pretentious, condescending and insulting. Never mind that they require gentlemen to wear jackets, some people prefer that everyone looks the same. The big problem is that they charge a 20% gratuity, regardless of the number in your party. They even charge 20% gratuity on the sales tax. Don't order multiple bottles of expensive wine because it will cost hundreds to have it brought to your table! I will never go to this restaurant again, but I'm sure they don't care.

Who knows 2 people said good to go, then told by hostess you can't come in with out a jacket

Lovely, old school dining experience. They've completely renovated the original depot and it's all glitz and glamour with rich wood walls, lush carpeting and elegant white tablecloths and leather chairs. Sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail, or relax in an intimate table set with gorgeous china and glassware. The highlight is finely crafted foods from a heavenly lobster bisque, to splendid salad choices (mine was a butternut squash) to fabulous entrees such as perch, walleye, lamb, ravioli (exquisite!!), even bison filet. Lovely, attentive service. Wine list is reasonable. We originally had not dined here as we heard it was rather snooty and exclusive. Not at all true. Very enjoyable. We'll be back.

Men are required to wear jackets which is ok since the dining room is a very comfortable temp. The service is excellent. The food was outstanding. I had the potato encrusted white fish. Great. Even the sides were outstanding. As stated in other reviews, it was an excellent old school dining experience. Everybody had a great time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write how your experience was. It is truly appreciated!
This time of year(after Labor Day) it is not required to wear a sport coat, of course some still do.
I just wanted to address that issue in case it was holding somebody back that just read the review.
We hope to see you next time you are in town!! - Kristine R.West Bloomfield Township, MI49695May 28, 2013
Mediocre. Brought wrong bottle of wine to the table. Bread was store bought, and not a good kind. Butter was served practically frozen. Beet salad was good. Portabella stack, which the waitress said was a fabulous vegetarian option, was ... Bland and nothing to write home about. Husband had the filet and loved it tho. Atmosphere is great. Hummers are amazing!!!

Hello, and I am sorry to hear that you had a mediocre experience. I am aware that the Heitz Martha's Vineyard was brought to the table at first instead of the Caymus Special Selection. It was mislabeled in the wine cellar and immediately got taken care of as I recall. Yes, the bread is store bought from Crooked Tree Breadworks, I am sorry you feel that way. We will research the temperature of the Plugra butter that we serve, thank you.
I am also sorry to hear how you felt about the Vegetarian item, we truly have had others think differently. In the future, please let us know immediately so we may bring you something more to your liking.
Thanks for the Hummer compliment.
My name is Lori Stark, We hope to see you again. When calling for a reservation, please ask for me, we would love to do something special for you.
