Nepalese! Nepalese! Nepalese!
We enjoyed such a great meal here at Yeti. I wanted to get away from the oh so standard of American beef, chicken or pork (I don't do fish).
Yeti's interior decor is very welcoming and comfortable. We were asked if we wanted to sit in a particular location that had the air conditioning blowing on it, due to a bit too much smoke in the open kitchen. We opted to wait a few minutes, and then sat at the table, after the A/C turned off. Unfortunately, as we quickly learned, the A/C comes on each time kitchen fires up. . . and it blows quite forcibly down on two of the tables. I find this to be something that needs to be addressed by the management/owner if he intends to utilize those two tables. We stayed seated as long as possible, but quickly just could not take it anymore, and asked to be moved. Which our server quickly obliged when another table was available.
Now on to the meal. . . It was simply fabulous! We ordered the Saag Gosht and the Tandoori Chicken, with some garlic naan and rice to finish things off. Excellent flavors from both dishes. We were tempted to order more food. But, just the two along with the bread and rice, were more than plenty. Service was very very good, and obviously from the issue above, very accommodating.
I would consider giving Yeti a full five stars if it were not for the experience with the A/C. Hopefully, the owner understands the need to fix this situation. Two tables lost in a very small restaurant, is a big issue.
Let's just say I'm obsessed! Went last night for the third time in a month. Just love it! The staff is great and inviting, always on top of things. The owner is the best...he always makes an effort to say hello and check in.
You must start out with the momos. So tasty...and the sauce that comes with it is amazing. Best naan around...we always go for the cilantro and garlic naan. I tend to go for the chicken saag while the boyfriend goes for the chicken vindaloo. Great heat and flavors...we just can't get enough.
Already planning our next visit. Enjoy!
This is another restaurant that I love and find myself thinking about my next visit. The flavors are wonderfully balanced and the meals nurishing. Definitely worth eating there if you're in the area. It's located in the Jack London Village in Glen Ellen which is a great location, too! Leave some time to walk around so you can visit the cheese monger and the chocolate store, among others.
If you're looking for some spicy Nepali/Indian adventure in the wine country be sure to check this place out. Its a great family run restaurant with friendly ambiance. Start with the succulent momos served with beautiful presentation. Don't hesitate to ask for wine advice as they have plenty of selection to choose from and good knowledge about pairing it with the spices ( which can be very difficult indeed!).
We sat on the patio on a beautiful afternoon and enjoyed some tasty meals with a nice glass of chardonnay.
I was here about a year ago for my brother's birthday dinner. I wasn't impressed or disappointed. Our server helped us as much as she could by explaining what everything was and how people normally order. We ordered so much food it was ridiculous!! lol. I will go back again but it's gonna take me a while due to all the flies that were in the dining room...felt dirty...I'm hoping that part has changed.
Not a lot to say about this place... the food is just ok, nothing to write home about! the location is ...a little out of the way but beautiful the staff friendly but the food is mediocre south asian...I would skip it if you are craving this sort of food...there is so much better out there...and less expensive!
Delicious. The food is balanced and flavorful. The wine list is perfect for the restaurant, great Reisling( goes beautifully with the Tikka Masala). The Samosas are tasty and the Lentil soup, yum!! The people are friendly and attentive.
We sat on the patio overlooking a little creek, nice and peaceful. A great place to go I had a wonderful experience.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!
I love/need indian food and would consider driving to Sonoma from the south bay (if truly required) to eat the food at this place....IT IS PHENOMENAL!!
We stayed in Sonoma over the weekend and if you've been there you'll know that options are well....limited. We drove by this place (almost missing it) and decided to check it out.
Ambiance is simple and elegant...wood interiors, you can sit in the wine room itself if you prefer. Conversations dont carry as far and the service was impeccable.
The naans are freaking huge...the wine selection is great and the vast selection of great indian and nepali food is simply tasty. Its not flooded with spice and the humility of the owners and servers who treat you like guests in their living room definitely adds to my fondness for this place.
If you're ever 'itching' for good indian food and are within 20 miles of sonoma, please check this place out. You will not regret it!
We stopped here for lunch on Monday and were grateful they were open (not too many choices in Glen Ellen). The chef and servers were very nice and efficient, checking on us regularly. The chicken tikka masala was excellent--moist and flavorful--and the tandoori chicken lunch plate was a good deal. Yes, it's more than you'd pay at an Indian restaurant in the Bay Area, but you know what? They're in Glen Ellen, with nary an Asian market to be found. I am willing to cut them slack on the higher prices due to their location.
Plus, it's a much nicer environment than what you'd find in most Indian restaurants on University Avenue--with the good weather we had, people were even sitting outside on the deck. I just hope they're able to make a go of it and stay in business, because I'm sure local residents are eager for something different.
I was going to give Yeti a 3 star rating, but for two reasons, I bumped them up to four. Reason #1: The biggest, fluffiest, bestest naan I've ever had. Holy delicious! Reason #2: The chef shook both mine and boyfriends hand after our meal (small restaurant, he can see when everyone is leaving), wondered if the food was prepared to our taste and liking, how our service was and wished us a wonderful and safe evening. I thought that was a very classy touch.
We were here on a Thursday evening and the place had a decent amount of table tops full. I noticed a handful of people come in for take-out as well. Most people seemed to be local "regulars."
The service here was OK. I had to ask twice for my water to be refilled. Nobody greeted us at the door, we walked in looking like a couple of idiots into the main dining area and stood amongst the tables while the patrons around looked at us like we looked as awkward as we were feeling. Finally somebody said "All the tables are open" and pointed toward the back of the restaurant. Our table was off kilter and shook the entire meal. With the exception of people who chew with their mouth open, nothing annoys me more than an unstable table.
I was shocked they didn't have tandoori salmon on the menu because that's what I went there envisioning I would order. No such luck! And that did disappoint me. I ended up having the tandoori prawns which were OK - the onions and peppers on the platter needed to be done more leading me to think the platter wasn't hot enough. The Dal soup was good, very creamy, which I wasn't expecting, but it was $6 which didn't seem worth it. Boyfriend had a lamb dish which was scrumptious. The naan was really outstanding, which I know I mentioned before but it was THAT good. I promise.
To me, anything bread-like is a vessel for sauce. I slathered up my samosa with the tamarind sauce and wish I could have licked the plate. Yummy, yummy sauces here! The mint sauce was a bit too spicy for my weak tongue.
All in all we had a good experience here but I would hesitate to go back because of how pricey it was. You can get similar food and better service down town.
I've gone back multiple times since my first review, now that I live in Glen Ellen. The restaurant has really developed since the first time we ate there. The chef is amazing, always recognizes and greets us. & they've really stepped up their spicy food game. So i'm changing this to 4 stars.
I was really excited about this place opening, but I have to give it three stars.
The wait staff is a little inattentive.
The food's okay. It's pretty pricey, which I guess is to be expected for the location.
however, both times I've requested my food 'so spicy it could make you cry' and neither time did they deliver. in fact, it was VERY mild.
the non curry fare and appetizers are pretty good. The naan is huge and fluffy.
Go here if you like food with very little spice!
Yeti is so good it brought me out of my Yelp hibernation. I haven't Yelped since my baby was born in February (and believe me I've had plenty to yelp about - God has blessed me with a baby who is lulled to sleep by the sound of menus hitting a table), but I just must to share Yeti with the world...
Here is a short and sweet review: beautiful, tranquil outdoor seating, DELICIOUS food, extensive menus (including many vegetarian options) great beer and wine selection, and reasonable prices... what's not to like?
OPENING SOON.
Located next to Bluegrass Bar & Grill. Jack London retail center, Glen Ellen.
The Owner is Narayan. He has been working on the fixtures, building interior, equipment, and getting permits since January. The project is almost complete.
He showed me the menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very ambitious!
If you eat northern Indian cuisine, you will recognize almost everything on the menu. Rogan Gosh, Dal, Curries, Naan, etc will all appear. Spices will be sourced from the family store in Berkeley. Narayan says he will sell retail spices and Nepalese condiments. He also plans to hold cooking classes. This guy is a whirlwind!
Narayan has worked in India as a chef in 5 star restaurants. So I'm hoping for great things to happen here.
I'll re-write this teaser notice after opening day so I can give you a run down on the food & ambience.
Tried this charming Indian restaurant last night with my two granddaughters who are 8 and 10 ... they're becoming experimental with food these days and I've always loved many types of ethnic food. We ordered the chicken curry and chicken tandoori along with the garlic/cilanatro naan ... absolutely the best naan around and both dishes were excellent ... the chicken was moist and very flavorful. The eight yr. old told the wait person it was "the best food she ever had!" no more chicken nuggets for these kids ... they know better now! Our service was good and the environment is really nice. Have to go back for lunch because the setting by Sonoma Creek is just beautiful!
We went again. We had lamb shanks (good), organic green salad (good), chicken tikka, mamos (or something like that - they are veggie potstickers (not that great...not bad, just nothing to write home about ) rice and one glass of wine, 2 teas.
Two of us spent $68 + tax and tip = $86 WAY too expensive. It was good, not great, but good. Good food, good service, chef came and asked us if we were satisfied, very gracious, but it's just too expensive. Everything is a la carte. Someone said in a review, everything is expensive in these parts. We have lived here 25 years and nothing is this expensive here. These are city prices, not Sonoma County prices. Don't get me wrong, it was a very nice experience, if you can afford these prices. And, it's not like it was so great that you were OK with spending this. For a nice romantic evening for 2 you'll like it. Hence, 3 stars again. Maybe we'll try lunch next time, but will check the prices more thoroughly before we go, if we go.

Really nice place. We sat outdoors. Good service. We had lamb curry, rice, plain nan, and their… Read more »
Very good Indian-type food. Naan was tasty, huge, but thick for my taste. All curries were rich and complex. The chicken in my tika marsala was a bit dry. The Saag paneer was rich and tasty. The seating was awkward (small tables for the large, hot dishes, and one of the tables was so close to the bar that I asked to move to another one - the edge of the bar jutted out about head level), but clean and pleasant. Pretty impressive to have this place in little Glen Ellen. We will certainly go back.
Although they were not thrilled we brought our dogs, they did let us sit in front of the restaurant with our dogs. Even though the seats were not great cause we sat in the direct sun in 90 degree weather. I got a bit of a sunburn but it was well worth it. The eggplant dishes were fabulous and the naan was so yummy. They have lots of vegetarian dishes to choose from and the service was excellent.
I am giving Yeti 5 stars because the food is as good as I have at any Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. In fact, the sag paneer was the best I have had anywhere -- the cheese was so creamy and fresh-tasting, unlike the usual tofu-like rubbery consistency, and the coriander was very distinct. The best naans I have had in the Bay Area as well. Was eating with my kids so didn't get to try very much, but I will be back. Not cheap, and halty service (hey, it's in the country :)), but really excellent food. A big surprise for the location.
