This restaurant makes some of the best honey walnut shrimp you'll ever find.  Clean atmosphere (weird, for a Chinese restaurant) and great crispy fried chicken (my wife's favorite).  A-

Dinner at Yen Yen is better than lunch.  Or maybe it's been so long that I've eaten dinner here that the quality has slipped across the board.  Or maybe today was just an off service.  Whatever it was, my Beef Tomato was not that great.  It was only $6, so I'm not super disappointed, but the won ton it was served with were really cold, stale, and oily.  Also, my girlfriend found a long, thick, coarse black hair in her Seafood Taro Basket.

We've had really good multi-course dinners here in the past, so I'll most likely come again.

This place is a hidden jewel. Great Chinese food and cheap too.  The lunch time special is a fantastic deal especially for out in Hawaii.  They give you complimentary tea while you wait and the wIt is not very long at all.  The down side is that it is a hole in the wall so don't expect great atmosphere.

Yen Yen has amazing food, not bland like some other Chinese restaurants. Their prices aren't bad either for the quality and quantity of food you get. My favorites are the honey walnut shrimp and Mongolian beef though pretty much everything I have tried there has been delicious. The service there is also very attentive and the food usually comes out very fast.

Another hidden restaurant in the Enchanted Lakes Shopping center, Yen Yen is tucked back into the corner on the far side of the Safeway. It's a fairly small Chinese restaurant, but it's good for take out or dine-in.

I enjoy the crunchy chow mein noodles with gai lan. That's always been a favorite and this place makes it as good as anywhere else. The rest of the food is good. The servers are friendly enough too. They do plenty of take-out here.

You might even see the Kailua "Bee Man" here. Who is the Bee Man you ask? Well, one time I came in to pick up an order and saw this van with all kine bees flying about it. I didn't really notice until I parked right next to him. I mean, who looks for bees when finding a parking space in a busy lot?! I noticed his license plate said "Bee Man". I thought that was weird until I entered the restaurant. There was this grubby looking guy dining with his family and a couple of bees flying around him. I was pretty tripped out at this and looked over at one local guy dining as we walked in incredulously and he hilariously looked up at me and smiled, "Bee Man." Both of us almost started cracking up! What is the point of this story? I'm not exactly sure, but I guess if Yen Yen is good enough for the Bee Man, then it's good enough for me.

I have been going here since I was a little kid.  I have to say it is one of the good ones on the island.  The services is great they are a small restaurant so the waitresses are on it when you need water or something else.  I have nothing to complain about the food, everything I had was excellent.

There are several different restaurants in the Enchanted Lake Shopping Center to choose from.

Agree with Brian A that it is another hidden restaurant in the shopping center.

Yen Yen is a very good choice for either sit down or take out.  The restaurant also has lunch and dinner specials.

Restaurant is bright and clean and noisy but is typical of Chinese restaurants in Hawaii.

I've tried the chow fun before and it has always been tasty.  Tonight was no different.  The noodles are coated with lots of flavor.  I think (and I'm guessing) from the shoyu and oyster sauce.

Here is our menu of choice:

Regular chow fun - excellent!  You can also order it with beef or choy sum.  Portion for 4 people.

Taro basket with seafood - Nah.  Don't order this.  It was filled with lots of broccoli and one piece of shrimp, 2-3 small pieces of scallops, 2-3 pieces of squid, small mushrooms.  Not enough sauce.  Not worth the $10+ price.

Chinese Chicken Salad - excellent.  Dressing on the vinegar side but nontheless very good with lettuce, of course chicken, slivers of carrots and wun tun.

Pork with sweet sour cabbage - excellent.  Sliced thin pork marinated with sweet sour cabbage.  Sauce was excellent with rice!

    Rice - typical minute rice.

We arrived at the restaurant on a Friday about 6:30pm.  The restaurant was about half full.  Then when we were done after 7pm, the restaurant was jam packed!

Food came in I swear less than 10 minutes.  Must have lots of people working in the back preparing the food.  We took a peek in the kitchen since our car was in the back.  Yup, there were at least 5 people back there.

Waitress was okay.  She forgot to bring the rice so I had to show her the rice bowl and said "rice please."

She came around twice for water too.

Only one waitress (poor thing) for 12 tables.  Her feet is going to hurt tonight.

    Ample free parking.

    Oh, pricing was affordable.

We will be back to Yen Yen for sure.  Look for the chow fun on the table.

I was able to order off the menu for char siu and choi sum with dry lo mein without any fuss, and it was very good as well as a good-sized portion for less than $7!
