A quote from that 70's show with my own twist to it....

"I found out, the thing I love most is bacon. If I could, I would run across the beach right into the arms of bacon".

Yes, that, is me. I love, love, love, bacon. I know it's not "good" for you, but there's just something different, euphorically if you will, that gets released when I'm nom, nom, noming away on a crisp piece. You can say, it takes me to my happy place.

Even though the location of this event was going to be at least 70 miles 1 way, and battling traffic to get here, I did not care, nor did I show mercy once I did enter the confines of Yelp bacon gluttony.

"Sample" burgers from 50/50 (serving the 50/50), Bacon - Mac n' cheese, chocolate covered bacon (which wasn't that bad and I actually liked it), free beer, and meatballs - yes, I ate those all were really good.

The things I didn't like, the Bakon vodka was just wrong. I didn't taste any bacon, but instead was almost knocked out by pure alcohol. Not hating on my Vegan friends, but what was the point of serving fake vegan bacon sammiches? *shrug

A great time, I can't believe how crowded it was, but it wasn't that bad compared to other events where there's just a sea of people. We even got to see Weird Al.

***Ode to Yelp OC's Sizzlin' Bacon Bash***

Eating bacon MORE THAN makes my day
And that's why Yelp's Sizzlin' Bacon Bash drove me insane!

Because there was so much delectable bacon
So much that Yelp thought we should be taken!

To a VIP preview of the OC Fair
For 6 different restaurants to showcase awesome bacon recipes, for all of us to share!

    Like bakon vodka chocolate martinis
And can't forget those bakon vodka bloody marys!

Not to mention, chocolate covered bacon
Sure to draw out any sweet-savory desire, that is latent!

I really loved Beachwood BBQ's bacon mac and cheese
Eating a few helpings, sure was a breeze!

Slater's 50/50's famous half sirloin bacon burgers
Really got my stomach to stretch a lot further!

And I also loved Hi Time's wine tasting
The Mr. Keg's beer tasting added to my buzz in the making!

Old fashioneds at the Makers Mark booth!
Fried Oreos for those sweet tooths!

When it came to more meat selections, they did not skimp
Jay's Catering satisfied with Bacon wrapped sausages, BigMista's BBQ brought on the bacon wrapped meatballs, and Mariscos Puerto Esperanza with their bacon wrapped shrimp!

Big Mista's even made candied bacon
And Mother's Market meat-like spinoffs, even satisfied those vegetarians!

Photo booths make it even more fun
Funnel cake eating contests had us feeling like we weighed a ton!

Overall, fun times at the Yelp's Sizzlin Bacon Bash
And as usual, this event didn't require any cash!

Except when we wanted to appreciate the bartenders and staff
Whipping up those drinks nice and fast!

I loved hanging out with yelpers, old and new
And especially want to thank Hazel Q!

    5 Stars!

Hope to see you all again SooOOn! *wink*

I rolled over and hit snooze half'a dozen times... eyes closed... drifiting in and out of bacon-infused dreams... I could almost taste it...

    oh wait - I did!!!

Last night's event was every bacon lover's and fair foodie's fantasy... from the booze to the breadth (of palatable goodies)... there were full bellies and smiles all around.

First stop for me and mah lovely plus 2's -  the Hi-Times table, where we were able to try a few vinos. I love Hi-Times and feel fortunate that it is right down the street from me... it is my number one go to when I need a bottle of bubbly or wanna impress friends with my limited knowledge of wine. (Hey - I know LOTS about the 3 or 4 that tickle my fancy).

Then we moved on to Mother's Market (another favorite local market!) - the scramble they whipped up was my favorite of the evening... light, filling, and fabulous flavor. I even surprised myself with the veggie bacon sammich... I'm not much for taupe "meat" but it was surprisingly tasty and hit the spot.

From there we decided to mosey outside and grab a table and attempt to socialize with yelpers as we grubbed (and attempted to try a few more goodies).

It was a bit chaotic and hard to figure out what line was for what... so we didn't get a chance to try much more... by the time we figured out where to get a bloody mary, sadly there were no more... lucky for me a fellow yelper had two, and let me have one... and I believe I am now a super fan (and potential spokesperson) for bacon vodka. Yum!

The chaos of the evening didn't give me the opportunity to chat with many of my fav yelpers or to meet new people but all in all it was a sizzlin' good time!

    You had me at "bacon"

I mean really... that's all I really need for this review.  But alas, I will elaborate.

I think Hazel is secretly trying to kill us.  I mean, who would've thought an Orange County Fair VIP preview event would be such an awesome idea for an Elite event? *raises hand*  Add on the copious amounts of bacon that was present that night and it was only a matter of time before someone would collapse because of a bacon overload.  Fortunately that did not happen.

Seriously, we even had our own little area.  I forget what that little place where we were is called, but it was perfect for all things bacon.  From zucchini weenies from one of the fair vendors to burgers from Slaters 50/50, everything was awesome.  The lines were CRAZY, but each of the vendors held their ground and their cool in dishing out the food to a large group of demanding Yelpers who love bacon.  There was also bacon mac n cheese, bacon wrapped meatballs, bacon candy, chocolate covered bacon, event faux bacon blt's.

Red Cheese Photo Booth Rentals set up in the corner to provide us with that old fashioned, room for one and half people press-the-button-and-smile photo booth experience and Maker's Mark giving us a first taste at their upcoming Bacon infused vodka. Yes, you heard me... bacon INFUSED vodka.  I didn't get to try any but some people loved it and a couple people didn't really like it.

As with all Elite events, some highlights:

    - Seeing lots of my regular Yelpers for the 2nd consecutive night because a lot of them were at the 007 event just the night before.
    - Meeting a couple of new faces.
    - A supposed funnel cake/pile of churros eating contest that I apparently was MIA for that it was no surprise Kevin C won even though he AND Debbie were looking for me.
    - The burger from Slaters.  Half bacon, half beef patty with avocado, a fried egg, and chipotle aioli.  I went back enough to make 1  1/2 burgers.  Seriously.
    - Weird Al Yankovic.  Seriously... he was hanging out over by where we were.  A lot of people took pictures with him.  He was nice about it.
    - "Oh my God I love your shirt!  Can I take a picture with you?" http://static.px.yelp.... (I have no idea who it was.... A Teresa? Or something?)
    - Bacon, bacon, and bacon

    Hazel... you're awesome.

I'M sure that everyone has seen the movie Forrest Gump.
If you have seen it then you know who the character Bubba is. He is the guy who recites all the different shrimp recipes to Forrest while their in boot camp. Well after last night I feel like the Bubba of bacon, I have never seen so many different bacon dishes before. In Bubba fashion here is some of the ways they served up the bacon,
Chocolate covered bacon,                 Bacon Mac and cheese,
Slaters 50/50 Bacon burgers,           Candied bacon,
Meatballs wrapped in bacon,            Shrimp wrapped in bacon,
Bacon wrapped in hot dogs,             Vegetarian bacon and eggs,
Vegetarian bacon sandwich,            Chocolate bacon martinis,
    Bacon Bloody Marys,                           Bacon vodka
    That's about it....

But bacon was not the only food offered at the event. The carnies provided us Yelpers with some deep fried Oreo's, deep fried zucchini wrapped in a hot dog, chicken kabobs, and funnel cakes.
There was also a nice abundance of alcohol including different wines, beers, margaritas, and Marker's Mark whisky.

Since it was my first event I finally got to meet some of my fellow Yelpers in person.
Austin S, Holly W, Ivan R, Al C, Marlon E, Ruggy J, and Peter L just to name a few.
Even Weird Al Yankovic crashed the event.

Thank you Hazel for putting on such a fun event, I can't wait for the next one.

As always, Miss Hazel rocks! I thought for sure I wouldn't go to the next OC elite event and then I heard the theme.

    A
    C
    O
    N

Okay, I'm in! And it was totally worth the 1 hour car ride, the 30 minute check-in and the lines for the goodies. I had so much fun!

I loved how at least 5 people asked me where the booze was. Um, do I really have a sign that says, "Shauna knows where the booze is, ask her!"

Well, of course I did know. I had a couple of Maker's Marks on the rocks and a couple of Bakon Bloody Marys. Mmm, you can't go wrong with Maker's! I was a bit apprehensive of the Bakon vodka but it was pretty good as a Bloody. I tasted a bit of Brett C's Bakon chocolate martini and I gotta say there was no love for it. Not like the bacon chocolate bars that were floating round. Now those are freakin' amazing. How did that bacon stay so crunchy covered in chocolate? Something to ponder while sipping more Maker's (and the fab Syrah that Hi Times brought).

I also sampled the mac and cheese from Beechwood. Very creamy! Then I got in line for the M'oink balls and bacon candy from BigMista's BBQ. Oooh, very yummy. I somehow missed the bacon-wrapped shrimp and the deep-fried oreos. Damnit. I knew there was vegan bacon in the house so I decided I wouldn't eat it. Why bespoil my appetite with that...um, fake'in (my attempt to spell fake bacon).

As I stared at the long lines for Slater's 50/50, I wondered if it was really worth the hype or wait. Fortunately, someone walking by gave me their burger! Yay!! It was great! Even better I didn't have to wait for it. Ha!

I really had fun with the Red Cheese photo booth. How many yelpers can you cram into a photo booth anyway? I think we had about 6 people in one once. Hey! Whose hand is that!?

It was super cool to see Ruggy and Marisol from SD yelp! And of course, all my LA and OC yelp buds.

And you know how big yelp is? They even have freeway signs directing traffic to the Fair! Woohoo!

Chocolate covered bacon are you freakin' kidding me?!  If you've ever asked, "where's the bacon?", I'll tell you at was at the OC FAIR last night.  HOLLER!

My personal favorite was the bacon wrapped little sausages.  OMG a little heaven.  And they had meatballs (no bacon, right?!) that were marinated to perfection and tasted so good.  Leave it to me to like the balls and sausages.

What really made last night was the people though.  I met a lot of yelpers I hadn't yet seen in person... let me tell you guys, "wait, do you model?" because you yelpers are hawt.... especially the lady of the hour, hazel, who made this all happen.  Thanks Girl!  And how did we get so lucky to bring 2 guests?!  Mr. Q, you are one lucky guy!!!

Thanks for the good times.  Ivan, thanks for the beer and for bringing my girl!  Mel, it's about time we met in person.  You are like my long lost yelper twin.

Ugh..... I literally have a bacon hangover right now.

This was my 1st yelp event and I was blown away by the generosity of yelp! Who knew that by writing reviews about places would get me into a private all you can eat bacon party with all you can drink bacon cocktails! Wowzers!

I started with a bakon vodka bloody marry. It was good but I couldn't really detect bacon flavors.... neither could my wife, but it was still a tasty drink.! For food I had the mac-n-cheese which was so-so, the fake veggie bacon which was surprisingly good.... I wouldn't eat it with a side of eggs, but on a sandwich it was good. Next I had a Slater 50/50 burger. My wife Donna D was nice enough to brave the line while I chilled... Man these were good. I have to check out the restaurant one of these days. My favorite thing here was the meatball lady... She had 2 flavors of bacon wrapped meatballs and a spicy candied bacon piece that was effen amazing. I could of eaten fistfulls of that stuff, oh wait, I did.

As if this weren't enough already, I had a fried Oreo, fried zucchini stuffed with a hotdog, and a chocolate covered bacon chaser. I really don't know how I'm still alive. Maybe this is just a dream and I'm in a coma. Anyways, the fried stuff was awesome but the choco-baco didn't do it for me. I literally felt my body telling me to stop, I knew if I ate 1 more bite I'd regret it big time.

It was great hanging out with Allan A. and meeting Al C, Laura S, Nick H, and of course Hazel Q.

Thank you Hazel for putting on such a great event! I can't wait to go to more!

BACON BACON BACON BACON BACON BACON!

Oh yea, on a side note. We checked out the Weird Al 3-d show. I am so blown away by the 3-d technology. This stuff was in super hi-def. Funny show and I'm glad I saw it, but don't think I'd brave the lines for it when the fair is packed.

What can I say that hasn't been said before, YUM! I will dedicate my review for props to Hazel. She brought a ton of cool vendors under 1 roof to satiate us Yelpers and it captured all my senses! Plus, there was plenty of food and drink to keep me happy all night long. Really friendly vendors too, they were really into what they do, yay! Scored a corner table outside to chill at, woohoo. Anyway just a run-down vendors that Hazel organized for us all:

    Beachwood BBQ
    Slater's 50/50
    Hi Time Wine Cellar
    Mother's Market
Bakon Vodka courtesy of Maker's Mark
    Big Mista's BBQ
    Red Cheese Photo Booths
    Mr. Keg's
Chicken Charlie (kebabs, deep fried oreos, and zucchini corndogs)

So, I'm not what you would call a bacon fan...but still, somehow, almost everything I tried was delicious...

    -spicy and sweet bbq bacon
-bacon mac 'n cheese (gotta love Beachwood!)
-Mother's veggie BLT and egg scramble
-chocolate covered bacon strips (a sight to see!)
-bacon avocado burger (belle of the ball w/continuous line)
    *burp*

The Bakon Vodka bloody mary was my favorite drink!  I need to get me a bottle of that stuff!

Little cups of beer....bigger, little cups of wine....and of course, stiff Maker's Mark concoctions!  Thanks Fran and Corazon for keeping me company in that loooonnnng cocktail line :)
    *hiccup*

I felt special getting a sneak preview of the fair....seeing everyone doing last-minute set-up...Weird Al zipping around...fun, fun!

This was my first OC Elite party and it was awesome!  I loved the theme from the get-go and was thrilled to see all the bacon action.  We started the night with the corn dogs with zucchini and friend oreos.  Then went on to try some Hef beer (forgot the brand) and bacon mac n' cheese.  Then, while waiting in line for the bacon burger, we tried the vegetarian bacon BLT and the bacon covered in chocolate!  I think the best thing that I had all night was the bacon chocolate.  I could have done without the vegetarian BLT though.

The next festivity was the funnel cake eating contest!!  My dear Kevin C. won yet another eating contest :)  Also got to meet Weird Al at the end of the night.  What a successful event!  Thanks Hazel.

** This review is dedicated to Edward B. whose first comment to me was "You don't review anymore!" Wow - calling me out and everything! So with that, here's your review and eat some bacon too!

An event of this magnitude deserves it's own theme song - so here it is: http://www.youtube.com... . Now that we are done with that, let's talk about the main event: BACON!

My 3-time Yelp Elite friend Tony L. (everyone add him as a friend if I introduced you - http://www.yelp.com/us... ) was visiting from San Francisco (yep, the Yelp headquarters) and had never attended a Yelp event (what's wrong w/ this guy?)

This event was opened up to Yelpers of all kinds which deemed this event, the largest and crowded one that I have been to.

    I loved:
    - the photo booth: Didn't know how to work it in the beginning. But the tech was nice enough to help us through the process.
    - the mac and cheese from . More creamy (like alfredo) than cheesy, I would have gone back for thirds and fourths of those
    - the wine from Hi Time. The vendors were really nice and I gotta give them credit for trying to educate their patrons on the wine. All in my mind was: hmmm.. red or white?
    - the beers from Mr. Kegs. Nothing beats a cold beer on a hot, hot day.
    - the fried oreos and the zucchini-wrapped corn dog (meat- check, vegetable - check, carb - check) from the fair vendors -- when in Rome...

    I enjoyed:
    - the 50/50 burger. The line for this was the longest, though I didn't know what they hype was about. Tasted a lil dry and like a regular burger to me
    - the chocolate-covered bacon. Who knew that they two could be married in a tasty matrimony? Salty's yin is to Sweet's yang.

    I should have passed on:
    - the BAKON vodka drinks. I don't like bloody mary's so I opted for the chocolate martini. It tasted more like creamer and a lil salty from the vodka. Ewww... sorry, I'll keep my non flavor-infused vodka.
    - the meatballs. Kinda had too much kick to them and they were dry as well.

I was sad that the funnel cake was for the eating contest; I wanted a sample.

Great event and I believe my mission was accomplished to open Tony's eyes to the wonderful world of Yelp Events.

I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.  I really did.

OC Fair?  Bacon?  All in one breath?  I willed my eyes to focus, I forced my heart to stop pounding wildly.  I had to read it again, just to make sure.  No, my eyes were working just fine.  OC's Sizzlin' Bacon Bash at the OC Fair.

My imagination ran wild.  Two of my favorite things in the whole wide world, coming together all in one night?  The drool immediately pooled in my mouth.  OMFG I LOVE YELP, my mind screamed.

A few clicks later, my +2's and I were IN!  Actually, 'twas +3 (thanks, Wes!  E loves you!).  All week, I bragged to everyone I met.  "I'm going to the OC Fair - BEFORE IT OPENS.  I'm going to the OC Fair - for a BACON EVENT."  I was the envy of all.  I'm sure they all regretted teasing me about my Yelp addiction.  Crying tears of envy, for sure!

We arrived a bit late (I've been having a crazy busy schedule lately), but it didn't matter.  Parking was free and plentiful, and we checked in and got our wristbands in a heartbeat.  We ventured inside and made a beeline for the zucchini weenies.  Holy cow, so good.  Then we sampled the fried Oreos.  I don't like fried Oreos.  But for some reason, these were THE BOMB.  I ate three.  Then I had the kabobs.  Holy cow, they were delish!  Then I had another zucchini weenie.

I was so absorbed with the buffet line of these scrumptious goodies that it didn't register at first that the area was EMPTY.  Why would an Elite event be so empty, I started to wonder.  That's when I realized, I was mingling with non-Yelpers.  They didn't have name tags - they had badges.  Oopsie!

We wandered around the fairgrounds to find the spot where everyone was.  Lost and confused, we were getting a bit frustrated when a mysterious stranger sort of overheard me grumbling, "Where the F are all the Yelpers?"  Embarrassing.  Yep, Hazel.  I found out way later that he was your brother (I think).

Anyways, the kind gentleman pointed us in the right direction, and it wasn't hard to miss the PACKED barnyard structure.  Yelpers galore, and... THE SMELL OF BACON WAS WAFTING IN THE AIR.

    Nirvana.

We quickly made our rounds, digging into the bacon chocolate (not as good as I thought it would be), the 50/50 burgers (I don't like guac/avocado, nor do I like eggs, so I took the burger apart and ate the patty... three of them), the free flowing alcohol (seriously intense!), the bacon mac & cheese (good, good), the bacon turkey sammich (errr... not as palatable as the other options), the churro/funnel cake chimera that Wes brought us, and whatever else was at hand.

Full?  For sure!  Satisfied?  INCREDIBLY!  I FRIGGIN LOVE BACON!  Ask anyone.  Gross as it sounds, I buy pounds of bacon at a time, and I cook them up and eat them like chips.  WHATEVER.  It's good.  In Cancun, I used to force myself to wake up for breakfast (who the eff wakes up for breakfast while on a drunken vacation?!) just to get down to the buffet, grab a giant slab of bread, and load it with about 50 pieces of bacon and take it down to the beach to snack on.  Yeah, they didn't allow to-go containers, but I got around that one real easy.  Again, the point is... I love Bacon, and I think I have a SUPERCRUSH on Hazel for scheming up this event.  A SUPERCRUSH, I tell ya!

Hazel, maybe we can make BACON EVENTS a monthly thing... or a weekly thing... or heck, let's go for gold and make it a daily thing.  I'm so there.

    ---
    EDIT::

Wes said, "You forgot about the suckers who waited in line again for said "burgers" that were mutilated, the funnel cakes, and the soda refills. :P"

Yes, it's true. Although I stood in line with everyone for the burgers (even though they'd already gone once. Haha), a great majority of the eats and drinks were hand-delivered to me by these awesome people.  So a huge THANK YOU to Wes S, Ryan N, Ivan R, Kevin F (I'm not sure if I really wanna thank HIM or not, but I'm gonna be generous), Jason H, and a few other peeps.  A "Thank You with a Question Mark" goes out to Bong E and Frank K for... gathering info for us... They weren't exactly SLICK ABOUT IT, nonetheless, they tried.  Haha!

    END EDIT::

    Full of bacon.

Full of things that were wrapped in bacon.

Full of things that had bacon in them.

I don't think I can eat anything that has bacon in it for a while.

Seriously though...everything was great....I do secretly wish I had a bit of room in my tummy to try the 50/50 burger.

It was great seeing everyone come out of the woodworks for this! And seeing everyone bent over in agony cause of how full they were :)

I always thought...one can never have too much BACON. Damn, definitely have to take that back, because I had way too much BACON at this event. Who would have thought that I could ever be over BACON'd.

First off, great location...the OC fair, I got to brag to my non-yelper friends that I get to go to the fair before it even opens!! Take that!

Secondly, the theme was BACON...it just doesn't get any better than that.
Little wienies wrapped in BACON= 5 stars
    50 ground beef/ 50 ground BACON burger = 5 stars
Mac n' Cheese with BACON (I think there was bacon in it) = 4 stars
Giant Meatballs wrapped with BACON = 5 stars
Just a piece of BACON = 5 stars
Crispy BACON dipped in chocolate = 5 stars
BACON infused vodka called BAKON = 4 stars (it was just too weird for me)
Zuchinni-weenie corn dog = 4 stars (come on now, it should have been wrapped in BACON or something)
Deep fried oreos = 3 stars

Thirdly, there was a cool photo booth from Red Cheese!! Which by the way was getting a bit stinky near the end. But was fun looking at people take silly pics.

And lastly...the joy and company of fun yelpers. Truly...this yelping community is filled with cool, fun people!! There were so many people there it was a bit overwhelming...but so glad to meet some new people.  I had such a great time.

Thank you thank you thank you...HAZEL!

AAAAAA, I have a tummy ache. But it's all my fault. I ate my fill of bacon this, bacon that (mac & cheese w/bacon, chocolate covered bacon, 50% bacon burger, zucchini corndog, bacon wrapped sausages, and more).

There was something for everyone, even if you weren't a meat eater. Mother's Market offered vegetarian sandwiches and other dishes. If you didn't drink, there was a soda fountain. More of a dessert person? Strawberry funnel cake and deep fried oreos. You say you want a photo taken of you and your friend? There was a photobooth there. I looked bloated in my photo from eating so much at the event, of course. :)

I was pleased to see tons of Yelpers I knew there. And there were a lot of Yelpers and non-Yelpers I didn't know for good measure. For those of you who introduced yourself to me, that was great. I liked that a lot. Everyone was having a great time.

Oh my...I think I'm going to pass out from all the food now.

I go to about 1 yelp event a year.  Not because I don't want to but because I'm shy.  No really.  I am.  With new people.  Once I know you for 2 min I'm all good tho.

Anyway so my good friends Roo-Mi told me about this and I appreciatively showed up as their TBD.  :)  (It even said so on my name tag!)

My favorite thing of the night was the chocolate covered bacon.  WAY better than Mo's bacon bar, since the ratio of bacon:chocolate at the bash was absolutely PERFECT!!  I even made some at home the following week.  Genius, people.  Absolutely genius.

It was great meeting all you awesome fun people and I hope I get to go to more Yelp events in the future.

I'll be the girl wearing bacon earrings.

Did anyone notice the construction sign on Fairview that said "Yelp and VIP entrance on Fair?" That was cool, I zoomed by too quickly and totally didn't get the picture of it.

This was not a normal event for me, I typically get there early but I got there exactly ontime at 7pm. There had to been 200+ Yelpers in front of me and about 100+ in the back during that time. Yikes!  So in not so typical fashion, once I entered the fairgrounds, I recon for freebie food with my father in law. He has low blood sugar and immediately we took care of that.

There were freshly fried potato chips, zuchini weenies, chicken skewers, bbq beef sandwiches from Juicys http://static.px.yelp.... (BTW, that was the best thing all night!) , cotton candy, fresh lemonade, fried snickers, con dogs, kettle corn. All good stuff. Oh wait? Where in the world were all the Yelpers? Crap, this was the food for the VIP folks wasn't it? Thank goodness I still saved some room for more.

So entering the fairground towards Weird Al's 3D show, (which I didn't go cuz the line was incredibly long but I got a pic of him) there were all the Yelpers! So many of them!  Good seeing you guys again, Linden, Ryan, Ann, Dave, Jason, Stephanie, Erica, Malon, David, Rhett, Rob. It was so crowded in there, I basically took my chocolate covered bacon (which was really better than I expected), my beer, my mac and cheese from Beachwood BBQ, fried Oreos, and pretty much was full to the max.

I walked to grounds a little bit afterwards, checking out what they had to offer for the people the next day. I have to say, it all looked pretty good. I will have to check it out one of these days. They have these "We care Wednesdays" which in can get in for free. Here's the list...

I'm bacon'd out. I had no idea it was possible, but I've reached my limit.

The bacon sampler dishes were awesome, I missed the 50/50 burgers because I was too stuffed from the chocolate covered bacon, the spicy bacon, the bacon wrapped meatbals, the zucchini weenies, etc.

I will have to go try them at their restaurant.

This was an awesome event, the fair grounds looked awesome, I will definitely have to come down here again just for the fair.

The mixed drinks, I had mixed feelings about. The chocolate bacon drink was a bit off, but the bacon bloody mary was pretty good.

To Hazel, I have to say: AGAIN! (c:

Bacon, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
-bacon whiskey (in a delicious bloody mary)
-bakon vodka (also in a spicy bloody mary)
-chocolate covered bacon (now you know what to get me for Valentine's day)
    -bacon wrapped shrimp
-bacon hamburgers (one of my new favorite burgers)
-weenies wrapped in bacon dipped in syrup (pigs in a blanket...of bacon!)
-fakin bacon (I can't believe it's not bacon!)
-bacon mac 'n cheese (two food groups covered!)

How do you counteract all of that delicious artery-clogging goodness? With plenty of beer and wine, of course! I enjoyed the Hef on tap as well as the Syrah from Hi-Time.

    Bonuses:
    -deep fried oreos (sinfully delicious)
-zucchini weenie (zucchini stuffed with a hotdog, fried like a corn dog)
    -photobooth
-mixing and mingling with all my favorite LA and OC Yelpers.
    -Weird Al!!!

This was an amazing event, and big ups to Hazel for putting on this momentous bacon-tastic shindig! You're the queen of bacon!

Yummy guacamole, egg, bacon burgers with pumpkin mayo were awesome! No wonder the lines were long. So worth it! Chocolate bacon... Not so much. Nevertheless, that salty sweet concoction did not leave a bad taste in my mouth. I had a good time at this event. Thank you Hazel for another fantastic event! I look forward to the next one.

I love fair food. My arteries don't but to hell with them for one day (or two/three days) I did get lost in the beginning though, but it was not a problem. My friends and I saw food right when we walked in and went straight to it. I figured out once they started packing up that it wasn't the Elite event haha! BUT, I did get to try the chicken kabobs, zucchini weenie, fried snickers, fried oreos and potato chips with nacho cheese and bacon. So the misdirection was not a bad thing at all. =)

The Red Cheese photo booth was a great touch! So much fun! I have grown to love photo booths more and more. They're seriously having a huge comeback not only at fairs but at parties and weddings. My photo booth picture was immediately posted up on my facebook as my profile pic. Neat-O! =)

The Good:  Bacon, bacon, bacon, and fried oreos.  Wow, I have never seen so many Yelpers in one place!!  I thought there would not be enough food but WRONG, there was a ton and I mean was because nothing was left by the end of the night.  Everything was awesome!!  Truly a epic night and HQ did a kick arse job, thanks.

The Bad:  The line to get in was horrible, it took over a half an hour.  A small price to pay for  a night in bacon heaven.

The Ben:  The pig candy was the highlight for me, drool.  Got to meet a ton of new Yelpers and catch up with some old timers too.  Bonus:  Weird Al sighting and he took pictures with a ton of Yelpers.

Yet another 5 star event Hazel!!

Bakon Mary's- Interesting, needed more oomph
Bacon covered sausge- my fav's, dipped in a sweet sauce!
bacon covered meat balls- mmm good!
Bacon mac and cheese - Who doesnt love mac and cheese?!,
Slaters 50/50 bacon cheeseburger - awesome, and well worth the wait!
Bacon covered chocolate- a little too over the top but amazingly enough, good!
Facon sandwiches?!? interesting, not my cup of tea, but great if you are a vegetarian
Dont forget the deep fried oreo - Little bites of heaven, who doesnt like an oreo, ok, clogged arteries here I come!
zucchini weenie... Let's say that was something interesting on a stick! great taste, erm... ok, thats all I'll say

The people is what really made the night. Hanging with Mariah C and her sidekick Anthony aka Robin(yes thats how he introduced himself to me) and the sweet Lily A (watch out for the quiet ones!!) I dont think I laughed so much!

Photo booth picts were fun and interesting!!
    Great times, great people!

Oh and I got to meet Weird Al Yankovic.. I have a picture... just need to remember who took it.. What a way to end the night!

Was it just me or when I heard about this event, the Beggin' Strips commercial came to mind?
    http://www.youtube.com...

Great spending time with Tara C, Javier J, and Ariel P! We were one of the first ones in line outside the fair so luckily when we entered Baja Blues, we did probably 1/2 of what was offered without any lines!

Maker's Mark and Mr Kegs were good drinks. The Bakon Vodka drinks were okay as the bartenders were still working out the kinks of how to make the drinks in the beginning. They even catered to the vegetarians with fake bacon BLT with egg and potato side dish. Can you say, "fungus strips"?

The Slater 50/50 was probably the best item of the night even though I couldn't really taste the half bacon mixed in with half ground beef. The line was out the building! I managed to grab 1/4 of a burger each but I guess the strategy is the wait around until the end like Austin and just be like, "Huh? You have a entire leftover burger? Yeah, I'll take care of that for you!"

Thanks so much to Hazel aka Bacon Hostess for getting together all the vendors to make the delicious event possible!

What an amazing event! The free food, free booze, and free admission to the OC Fair were more than I could ever ask for. I really felt like I was on the VIP list.

I have to admit though that I would never have found the Yelp party in the midst of the carnival rides and food booths if it weren't for my Yelper friends. There weren't any signs to direct me...

The party was packed with Yelpers. The lines to get food were surprisingly not that bad...except for the 50/50 Burgers; they were long but well worth the wait because the burgers were delicious. The burger patty was juicy and tender. The pumpkin sauce was surprisingly good. I never had anything like that before. It was sweet but not too sweet and it went well with the bacon and burger.  Not to mention their white Belgian beer was a great compliment to the burger...YUMMMMmmmmm. 50/50 did an awesome job of convincing me that the next time I want a burger, I'm heading over there!

I liked that in the midst of all the bad food we were eating at the fair, Mother's was there! Of course Moms always knows best because they bought organic chips & salsa, vegetarian sandwiches and omelets. The salsa was super spicy but delicious! I hoped it helped me burn some of the fried food in my stomach =)

The chocolate covered bacon was interesting. I would never have thought of that, but then again, you can dip anything in chocolate and it's almost always good (except when you have bugs dipped in chocolate. That concept scares me).  The chocolate covered bacon was surprisingly okay. It was a mix of salty and sweetness...and I thought it didn't taste all that bad. The best analogy I can think of is chocolate covered rice crispy with salt sprinkled on top. I only had two or three bites before I was done with my experiment though...

The photo booth was AWESOME! Oh man, I had a lot of fun taking pictures and seeing other people take pictures. I'll definitely be using redcheese in the future!

Thank you Yelp for throwing such an awesome party. It was fun and I'm glad to have met other Yelpers too. You all rock!

I brought Minda W. as my +1, and as usual, I have to give a shout to Tam N, Jacky P and crew for scoring the awesome corner table.  Vanessa N, for braving the bacon despite a weak stomach, and Khoa L for getting me over my fear of heights on the Sky Ride.  And might I add that everyone there was super nice and friendly to my face?  Thanks!

I don't want to over "bacon" my review, but I can't help it.  Some people think bacon comes from pigs.  I think it comes from the bacon Gods.  One piece of meat cannot taste so good and provide so much joy to my taste buds.  I seriously loved the meatballs, the mac&cheese, Slater's 50/50 (which I'm going tonight BTW), but most of all, I found a new love for chocolate covered bacon.  Rich fatty bacon covered in decadent chocolate and sprinkled with salt?  I seriously would roll around in a pig pen to experience that all over again.

    Thanks Hazel!

Yelp popped my cherry, I had never been to the fair before! Even though I have lived in the OC my whole life, for some reason I never made it down to the OC Fair!!

This was a great way to break me in. Not too many people and free food! Since we could bring 2 guests this time (awesome!!) I brought my BF and my BFF Steff, since it was her birthday - i'm such a cheap friend!

When we got in, we immediately hit the free food near the entrance. Steff loaded up on cotton candy, her favorite, and Kev attacked the deep fried snickers. We headed back to the Yelp area, and on the way we had a run in with Weird Al.

This was a Bacon themed event, and I don't do pork, so I refrained from the food, but BF and Steff tried different things. BF was bummed that they were out of Bacon Vodka, but oh well!

Steff and I took some pics in the photo booth, and I grabbed some free wine from High Times. We took seats out on the patio and hung out for a bit.

All in all, a great event!

    Bacon covered meatballs
    Bacon with Mac n Cheese
    Bacon with Burgers
    Bacon with Sandwiches
I'm tired you get the point there was lots of Bacon!!! Then there was the alcohol... That is a whole other story... I'm still thinking about that chocolate covered Bacon... YummY!!!

It was a night of fun and frolic with all my fellow Yelpers :) It was great running into old and new Yelpers... Overall a great night and the bonus was Weird Al!!!

Let's just say that the phrase "Chocolate Covered Bacon Changed My Life" would not be an understatement.  The creamy sweet chocolate plays off the crispy, saltiness of the bacon to perfection... I will just never be the same.  The girls manning that booth were not stingy and just mayyybe I smuggled some home in my shnazzy yelp grocery bag.  Mayyybe.  Ok... probably.

I was distraught when I thought they were out of Fried Oreos, until a dapper young man dramatically presented me with the LAST plate of them.  Fried oreo man, I LOVE YOU.  I even did a little "yayyy" dance to share my excitement.  Yes of COURSE they were excellent!  The only thing that can make an oreo better is to fry it.

Slaters 50/50--I loved how you took the time to tell me every ingredient in the burger, including the baconnaise and pumpkin sauce on the side.  It was better than a bedtime story!  Let's just say, you HAVE my business.

Met some way nice yelpers (one even gave me her yelp bag when I asekd where she got it because they were all out), enjoyed the bountiful food and drinks, and now officially having a bacon hangover.  Great job Hazel and co.!

Review #94 of the Sizzlin' Bacon Bash.....so it's all been said already!!
My first Elite event and it was a cool one!
So many people... so many lines!!
It was so big, I missed some yelpers that I was hoping to run into. Just never saw them. How is that possible!?!

My favorites were the 50/50 Burger and Bacon Mac 'n Cheese!
The 50/50 Burger was actually better than the two I have had at the restaurant. Now I need to go back and try a whole one again with egg on top! YUM!
Couldn't get enough of the Bacon Mac 'n Cheese with breadcrumbs!

They ran out of Bakon Vodka right as we got to the front of the line!! Bad luck.. Bad timing!!

So enough about the bacon...........what about the Funnel Cake!?!
I'm pretty sure I ate a couple pounds of Funnel Cake!!
OMFG!! We need a "Funnel Cake" themed event!.... chocolate covered funnel cake, deep fried oreo funnel cake, funnel cake flavored vodka, Slater burgers topped with funnel cake.... etc!! =)

Thanks Hazel for a really cool event! What a lot of work to put that together!

(One weird thing... I must of got a bad bacon covered meatball?!?!... because the one I tried was really nasty! Couldn't even get it down after shoving the whole thing in my mouth. It was like one of those nasty 'food challenges' on a reality show, which I lost because I had to spit that shit out!)

Oh yeah almost forgot, the food was awesome, going to take my wife and kids there for the weekend and try everything again!  I like the Slater's 50/50 Burgers by Design, I'll be checking there place out.  And, also the photo booth was great too, I think it's called Red Cheese?
