i went...as a plus1...i only kinda knew what this yelp thing was...i have come to the discovery it's crack for people with a-holes...i mean opinions...(please don't take offense...come on...you know the old adage...opinions are like a-holes...everybody's got one...)
my point is...wanting to know more about this sd-city...i have become a little addicted to this site...and having an asshole, i mean, opinion, myself...i feel very at home...
as my first foray into the food of phil's bbq, i will say it was pretty damn good...i favored the mini-pulled pork sandwiches and bbq brisket...no knife required so tender...the other vendors were very informative about their products and maybe i will try that grape-wine-U4ik vodka another night...it is an sd product...(at least i think that's what the promo-chick said)...and i like to support local...
unfortunately, we got there too late and mingled too long for the beer (they were closin up by the time i wised up), but there was plenty of ice cream...(there may have been a scream)...and next time...oh, if there is a next time...there will not be such a morose mistake made...
though i heard talk of previous events being much more debaucherous...i had a good time.....cheers to the organizers...

Somebody wake me from my food coma when it's time to go work on Monday.
Upon walking into the main room and looking up at the LCD TV's in the event center, our hero was undecided whether he was in attendance at a Yelp Elite party or an Obama rally. After smelling the scent of gratuitous amounts of BBQ sauce, tasting the sweetness of complimentary U4rik vodka on his tongue, seeing the Yelp Elite and +1 stickers on people's shirts, and hearing the clicking of cellphone keys as people mobile Yelped the event and texted their friends about it, our hero confirmed that this was indeed another epic Yelp gathering.
PROS:
- Christina R's after party with 3 kinds of milk and a DDR contest.
- Delectable BBQ chicken and pulled pork mini-sandwiches from Phil's, which were very tender and a cut above the rest.
- This event definitely took the cake for the the Yelp party with the best alcohol to attendee ratio to date. Not 1, not 2, but FOUR different tables serving different types of alcohol: Smooth U4rik vodka, Ballast Point, Trumer Pilsner, and Toronado showcasing their interesting coffee flavored beer! The tables were positioned so well that I even managed to score some beer while standing in line waiting for food.
CONS:
- They ran out of my size in men's t-shirts by the time I got there 15 minutes after the event started. Boy does free swag ever go fast at a Yelp event.
What I really wanted was a glass of Phil's BBQ sauce.
First Yelp event of the year kicked off with a plethora of free stuff AND people. If you didn't go, here's what you missed:
-Good, no, EXCELLENT Beer! Among the sea of beer was a jewel (catered by Toronado)...Green Flash. Wow, never have my taste buds exploded into a frenzy over beer. If you never got around to it, I highly recommend.
-Orgasmic food. To be completely honest, I'm not a fan of BBQ. In fact, I pretty much dislike it. Phil somehow created the perfect BBQ sauce that has made me fall in love. It's so good, it should be taken alone! Everything was mouthwatering delicious. Macaroni salad, massive onion rings and the BBQ chicken. After a round of brew, my +1 and I headed back for rounds 2 and 3. Phil knows his BBQ sauce and I will be coming back very soon. Can I get a side of BBQ sauce to go with my BBQ sauce? Thanks.
-Yelpers! Wow! I never knew there were so many of us. I need to get back on my Yelp kick as I didn't recognize many. I hope to be meeting more of you at future Yelp events.
I will revise my original impression of Phils. The reason is that I always ate the chicken. This time I sampled the BBQ riblets and some of their macaroni salad as well as their other offerings of onion rings, pulled pork sandwiches and chicken nibbles.
Now I don't know macaroni salad from my elbow because it's not something I usually eat but I ate some cuz I needed some absorbage to fit in some of my booze. I really thought I did not like macaroni salad. Phil's proved me wrong.
Anywhoo the riblets were phenomenal. My god. I guess I should have sampled their other food before I made a judgment. Eating one dish over and over cannot really make a full rounded review. For that Mr. Phil I apologize.
The other highlights were the Trumer Pilsner beer where the nice gentleman saved me a glass, Todd and I winning the first and last prizes of the raffle, drinking Ballast Point Yellow tail, Yelp Swag, seeing good friends again, meeting new ones (Yvonne);) and once again being apart of the wonderful community of Yelp. Love you Guys!!
Ruggy, you once again are the fashizzle!!!!
Basically I am giving myself 5 stars for making this event rad for myself.
I couldn't eat the meats and they didn't have any Phil's veggie burgers to sample, so I resourcefully stole an onion ring off of someone else's plate. 5 stars!
Then my endless geniosity invented the Coffee Porter Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough beer float. I PUT ICE CREAM IN MY BEER. 5 stars!
Was great to see everyone, love me some Yelpers!
Also got a sweet new tshirt.
And umm, go Obama?
So...the thing is...I really don't go c-c-c-crazy for BBQ and I am still kind of wondering how this joint had folks lined up down the block when it was in Mission Hills...I'm guessing they've never been to Huffman's. YET when Yelpers descend upon a place in such numbers the result is quite magical...SIGH. Yelpers remain some of my favorite folk to mix and mingle with under such circumstances. Such a friendly and motley crew!
It was awesome to have such a wide selection of frosty brews to choose from...well mostly frosty (What happened Shiner Bock guy??).
I put my skepticism (more like phobia) of BBQ sauce aside and tried a few of the items...the "riblets" were by far my favorite....they had a nice smoky flavor and were not super sauce laden or overly sweet which is what turns me off with most BBQ sauces. I also liked the chicken bite thingies. They were surprisingly moist despite hanging out in a chafing dish for who knows how long.
Kudos to team Yelp for another fantastic event!
Shiner is the reason!
Oh and a little BJ is good too. (Ben and Jerry's - get your mind out of the gutter peeps.)
Free t-shirts, BBQ, and Ben & Jerry's Ice-Cream...oh my! Had a wonderful time at Phil's BBQ...we went to the main restaurant and not the new event center, but Christina from Phil's kindly showed us around the corner. It's a nice area...and we got to meet the man himself, Phil! Phil's is such a San Diego icon....I've heard about it a lot but have never had an occasion to go because whenever my friends and family and I do BBQ, we usually do it in our backyards...
We had fun chatting with Merrily, Edwin, Mikey, Giggles, and others...
I was really impressed with the food and the hospitality. Nathasa and Ebrem from Ben and Jerry's were very fun and entertaining...and I learned that they do children's parties...I already told all my friends who are moms...the vodka people were nice enough to give Jackie and I juice even though we weren't interested in the vodka (I don't really drink). I love that Phil's BBQ is such a family restaurant...some yelpers even brought their toddlers!
Great onion rings...I have a nephew I will want to take here just for the onion rings...I told a bunch of people about Phil's yesterday night and what a fun time we had and now they want to take their families too! Seems like people don't want to do BBQ exclusively in their backyards afterall! :) Thanks Ruggy! Yelp is helping me hit all the places that truly define San Diego!
The slide show of the new presidency, the fact that is was recently Lunar New Years, the very "American-ness" of a BBQ, and the vibe of such a friendly gathering really made me feel really grounded and happy to be part of something positive...something that helps businesses and people build community.
I'll be sporting this little red "I love yelp" shirt around town for sure...I even got a small stack of "you've been yelped" cards to leave behind with my tips...
Great event Ruggy! Thanks to all the great vendors who gave us free shit to imbibe, lick, shoot, and nosh on all night long.
The only drawback was that dude Noah from KPBSs Wonderland was there. Man, am I the only one that gets so annoyed as shit by that guy?
Hhahahaahhaah!
It was nice seeing all the long time Elite Yelpers. Mikey P and I really enjoyed doing love laps and meeting all of the new names & faces.
Few things I would like to complain about...
- too many different choices for beer = took me a while to try them all and by the time I finished all I forgot my favorite already and have to go back 2nd round to try them again
- U4rik vodka taste so good = i'm prepared for itchy arms (i'm allergic to vodka) =[
- buffet style food = unlimited onion rings and BBQ creates greasy hands
- ben & jerrys = too good to resist, I'll forget my diet just for one night
- Caffe Calabria coffee drinks = caffeine overload for the day...
- packed w/ awesome photogenic yelpers = losing sleep with headache trying to sort through pictures
ok i'm lying, I have no complains, I LOVE the event! it just keeps getting better and better. =D
Okay in my mind it's around 4 stars, but my heart is saying give it 5.
For once I'll listen to my heart. Haha
Upon entrance, we were greeted by phil's bbq anniversary cups, and yelp tee's. I'm still elite '08 hoodieless. :( It's okay.
The Ben and Jerry's people were extremely nice, one is the manager of the seaport Ben and Jerry's and we made small talk because a lot of Morse high alumni work there. The girl who was also there was great and greeted my +1 Chris by his name because his name tag was clearly visible, I was amazed when she greeted him by name. "How'd she know your name?!"
ahh durrr.
Yum chocolate chip cookie dough on a sugar cone...I should have gone for seconds.
Once we got our ice cream a line had formed for the food.
Oh the food, the oh so good food.
Chicken, pork, onions rings, macaroni salad, and of course bbq sauce.
Om nom nom nom.
+1 for not running out of food, considering Phil's BBQ restaurant was a hop skip jump away.
Said hello to all the familiar faces. Squeezed through every nook and cranny to get from one place to another.
U4rik, Ben & Jerry's, Toronado, Caffe Calabria, more beer were all situated around the event center.
Being one of the first few people there we were able to get a table so we wouldn't have to stand and eat all our yummy food. Being short and having to stand to eat in a crowded room and getting bumped into = disaster. After eating we gladly got off our butts so other people could sit and eat.
If you didn't see me after (insert time here) is because my friend and I left a bit early..sometimes I get ____ when there are too many people. Sure it wasn't comparable to the crowd at the open Yelp event at basic, but it was just one of those nights.
Oh yea, Edwin should have brought Felix. I probably would have stayed and played with him.
THANKS AGAIN RUGGY!
I'm ready for the next one, k thanks.
I had two kinds of pig and 5 kinds of beer tonight.
You can join me in Ruggy J's pound-pulverizing diet and watch the pounds just melt away.
Wee Ha ! another elite event and as usual Ruggy nailed it !
Great company , excellent food , the pulled pork mini sandwiches were so good as was the riblets and chicken I love the BBQ sauce it was very tasty. The U4RIK vodka was amazing and the friendly gal was pouring them generously she was quickly becoming my best friend at the event.
Of course my two other best friends were there Ben & Jerry so I had to pay them a visit. I did not try the beer or coffee but they both looked good. It was good to see all my friends and a lot of new faces. I cant wait for the next one. Good Job Ruggy and Hazel you guys are amazing !!!
Great 1st Yelp for the year...now that we are spoiled, we would love to go to every event but I know we want everyone to enjoy the same thing too.
Bravo for the various stations for beer, coffee and a favorite by all besides the bbq was the Ben & Jerry ice cream, i know everyone had ice cream and I had the raspberry sorbet on a cone! Rocking!
Nice Yelp t-Shirt, good company and good food. Hope we can fit more people in the next event cuz we want more. If I promise to review 20 new places before the next event, can that guarantee my admittance!!!
I came from Blago land so quid pro quo always the Windy City way!
Hope to catch more of you online and next events Ruggs was the social butterfly. And this event was the Fly!
Lastly - Thanks to all the sponsors, I miss Phil's since it moved to Point Loma.
Great venue! Great food! Great drinks!
Thanks Ruggy!
GREAT first elite event of the year!
I came tonight thinking I would know people (I met some peeps at the bite event) but they were nowhere to be seen and my partner in crime, Michael R. was missing. I'm painfully shy in approaching people, so I did the 'I'm part of the scenery' stance in the beginning until some people appraoched me. Phew. I HATE starting conversations with people. lol. So thanks you guys for taking me out of the middle school dance loner flashback memory I was having.
The food was really good! I'm on this new BBQ kick after eating at Smokin Mo's up in Orange County last month so I'll definitely be back to this place!
Free ice cream is always a plus. :)
Went easy on the booze since I'm still on antibiotics from surgery. Didn't wanna wind up streaking through the party.
Free t-shirts!!! Full of win.
This was awesome and I hope to make more Elite events...and next time I hope to mingle mingle mingle.
Why, oh why do these events only last two hours? I needed at least another hour or so to responsibly sample all the awesome local beers that were offered. Add to that the Yelp swag, local beers, plentiful Phil's BBQ, Ben & Jerry's treats and all the fun new peeps!
Also good to know for future reference that Phil's has a separate special events venue.
Ruggy and the awesome sponsors have done it again!
Elite events are becoming enormous, but at the same time not losing a hint of their awesomenity.
Awesomenity 1: Greeted by (well ... after the initial greeting at the check-in) by a table with two beers available (Shiner and some most excellent delicious Pils that I cannot recall the name of) and NO LINE! wow.
Awesomenity 2: Having two more tables with delicious beerness available that were next to the line for food. BRILLIANT (and delicious). The beers were amazing (provided by Ballast Point and Toronado). I had the 30th St. Ale which is quite delicious.
Awesomenity 3: The food. I had never eaten Phil's. It is all that I had heard about. Truly delicious. I am not a BBQ expert, though, so I cannot be taken as a commentor on authenticity, just on deliciousnessity.
Awesomenity 4: The Yelpers. I loves you.
Peace,
m
Thanks to my recent foray into the world of other meat products, I ended up with a plate full of pork products. I had a mini-scoop of macaroni salad, a couple of onion rings and (at the guy manning the chafing dish's advice) dumped a river of bbq sauce over the lot.
I am salivating, right now, thinking about that sammich. Dude it was seriously SERIOUSLY yakworthy. Hell I'm trying to think of a way to talk the husband into going there for dinner tonight.
Combine that with Trumer Pils (of which I was gifted two bottles for today's beer & a book porchside enjoyment), a new yelp tshirt (much comfier than the last) and a take home portion of ben & jerry's? Good, good times.
Thanks, Ruggy!
This was an awesome event. Yelp San Diego has got the new year kicked off the right way. Thanks Ruggy!
I haven't seen Ruggy all that many times without a hat or skull cap of some sort. That was quite an event, a lot of effort went into it.
It was great to see friends, and I was especially pleased to see Arnie fro Cafe Calabria.
The food was excellent. Now I wouldn't say that it was better than the ol' skool BBQ joints in Arkansas, but for SoCal, it is top notch. I loved everything on the menu. I was gluttonous and went back for seconds.
My First Yelp Event was super cool and hella chill.
Met some really nice people. Thank you Warren for being my welcome wagon.
I loved the hunks of meat from Phil's and Ben and Jerry's Ice cream.
My +1 really loved the Vodka made out of grapes.
Can't wait until the next one...Hey..where was Melanio?
This was my first Yelp Elite party and I had a phenomenal time. The BBQ, brews, booze, and Ben & Jerry's were all fantastic and Ruggy was a great host. It was great to finally meet the local legend himself and he sure wears some slick shoes!
I ended up taking 2 laps around the event center to try everything and finished off with a double works sundae at the B&J booth. I hope everybody got a chance to try those pork ribs. They were divine!
If this first party of the year is telling of future Elite events [and I expect that they are], I'll definitely be coming out to every single one. The guys at Phil's BBQ were awesome, served some awesome grub, and provided an awesome venue for this event. It was awesome!
Food: 10/10
Service: 10/10
Price: Free!
Atmosphere: 10/10
holy dil hornesby,
They are releasing a Lemmy movie?!?!?!?
Anyhow, back to drinking BBQ Sauce.
Two Thhumbs Up. WAYYYYYYY UP!
Nice party Ruggy!
I had some BBQ, the little sandwich had a weird paint taste, that I didn't like. But the mac salad was actually good and I'm not usually a fan of it. The little bits of beef and chicken in the sauce in the chafing dishes were rather tasty and I liked the sauce not being too sweet.
I talked to some new people, some people I already know, I looked for Marwin, "Why YOU NOT THERE MARWIN?" I asked Ruggy, "Where is Marwin?"
I had some sorbet by Ben and Jerry's.
I had some beer, one was Shiner bock, the other I think was the Calico from Balast Point, which I love their beers so YAY.
Then to end the evening off I visited the Cafe Callabria folks, we talked about how I'd seen their little coffee making show on Wonderland, then the owner told me he likes the Vancouver Canucks so now I like him even more ;) I was a tad disappointed they didn't have soy since I'm lactose intolerant, but heck they always carry it at the store.
Did anyone feel like they were in the party room at someone's apartment complex?
My first Yelp Elite Party. What a FUN night, great crowd, excellent food from Phil's BBQ and the endless booze for all the Yelper's who loves free alcohol.
Cafe Calabria = excellent Latte, was delicious
Ben & Jerry's = Cherry Garcia with caramel plus mini m&m's (I can't resist). It was yummy.
Ruggy you're the BEST!
Thanks to Melanio for the + 1.
my first elite event opportunity! definitely a great welcome into the clan...esp since it was at Phil's and it was my first time there as well. Everything was super organized, as I've seen in the past with other events, and the company was solid. Great beers to try...stellar BBQ (ah man, that was quite possible the best BBQ chicken of my life) and evil evil Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream sundaes.
"Oh I see you have sorbet? hm...well thats probably a bit healthier for me I should have that...On second thought, I'll have the chocolate chip cookie dough, with fudge, M&M's and whip cream. thanks."
ahaha...go big or go home.
Overall, great time. I'm already anxious for the next! And I love that the people I ran into or met there were back on http://yelp.com right afterwards like me. you guys are my family =) computer-aholics for life!
and yes, I'm already sporting my new yelp shirt. yelp pride dude.

And hell ya I need to experience the real deal at Phil's BBQ restaurant. It's really cool that Phil was there and spoke to everyone!
Nothing I can write will be different than anyone else's write-up so I'll just share my favorite part of the night:
There actually is a Phil and he's a cool guy.
The food and the staff were great! The Phil's people were insanely friendly.
I was not expecting so many people there, who knew there were so many Elites! Didn't really get to meet any yelpers, but still had a great time stuffing my face. I could eat those little pork nuggets until I explode like Big Trouble in Little China.
Due to some health issues of late I didn't get to partake in any of the booze which really sucked. Some beers there that I really like too. But not going to work hung over today is nice.
My GF had a great time, and loved the food and Ice Cream. Excited for the next event and hope to be in some better health so I can enjoy the booze.
I like free! I really do, but lets be honest i didnt really eat the food, i nibbled but i was there for the drinks.
Getting to put faces to names is always great. I just i spent the majority of the time Toronado Trips. mainly because i knew the guys working the taps. Jack White president of Ballast Point was on site handing out awesome bottles of Yellowtale Pale Ale, Calico Amber the the Mariner Black Porter. Awesome! Cafe Calabria and their coffee was also yummy!
Thanks http://Yelp.com for another wonderful event!
My first Yelp Elite event was at Christmas when Ruggy brought me in as Santa Claus for all the Yelpers. I had such a blast I could not wait to earn my Elite status and be invited as a guest to the next Yelp Event I was eligible for. And you know what? Ruggy does not disappoint. I have known the man, the myth, the legend for almost 9 years now and I am always impressed by his hussle and drive to make sure that people have a great time! Ruggy I hope you understand how much you are appreciated! Let's run down the clients that were in attendance to hook up the Yelpers last night?
Ballast Point Brewery - They had sample cup status on many of there beers, and although my favorite is the Yellowtail Pale Ale, I am a new fan of that Amber Ale they have. I even got a chance to talk to the salesmen and setup a tour of the brewery since I want to start some home brewing of my own.
Toranado Bar - With an Amber Ale and that decadent Coffee Beer they were definetly representing North Park and I cannot wait to try this bar that has been on my list of places to try for awhile,
Ben & Jerry's - First of all we all know about BJ's. Right fellas? wink. But B & J now have a on the go ice cream station available for parties and weddings. How awesome is that! The girl hooked me up with the "works" and I was highly appreciative.
plus a coffee and vodka sponser, as well as Shiner Bock beer, it was a great night for free food and drink! Plus you get Phil's BBQ on top of everything!? What an awesome night. I was able to bring a friend and she had a blast as well. Thanks to all involved, and thank you Rugman!
My first yelp event. of many more to come.
good beer
local Vodka(U4RIK)
Ben&Jerrys sorbet(with sprinkles hot fudge and m&ms)
yelp shirts, pens, bags, stickers
dining out magazine and
live music.
oh. There was also Phils BBQ, finger lickin' good
yelptastic!
and props to people who love food. Forgot who but I learned about Sorbetto. now just need to find that place in Little Italy that serves.
As big as my mouth is on this thing, I get around a ton of other Yelpers and I turn into a shy wallflower. What the hell is wrong with me? Oh yes, for I am Yelp Elite NOOB.
Otherwise... nice set up, great eats, good sips and the Ben + Jerry's chick rocked. Free swag and killer onion rings. All the makings of a good time.
I guess I need to get to know more people cause I only recognized like 2 people and I had no set last night.
Another fantastic elite event Ruggy!
Phil's event center was packed, so many people milling around, talking, drinking, eating. The chick at the u4rik vodka table was cool. She made up some tasty concoctions for us. The beer was great too. Free alcohol is always a good thing.
The reallllllly good stuff was the food. Phil's is so mouthwatering. Great bbq, the chicken, the pork, the pulled pork sammich. all lip-smacking good. I really liked the macaroni after I mixed it up with the bbq sauce on my plate. mmm. Also, holy crap fantastic onion rings. I didn't try the buttermilk ranch sauce though my +1 said it was yummy. I'm an onion ring purist. ;) They were really great though, crispy, flavorful, homemade.
Then top it all off with Ben n Jerry's. They had my favorite, Cherry Garcia, and I was able to end my evening with a nummy ice cream cone. We should have ice cream at all the events :o hehe.
I got to meet a bunch of yelpers, I'm finally starting to recognize people from their pictures! And apparently some people know who I am too! lol. Warren yelled "PENGUIN GIRL" at me to get my attention. hehe.
My only complaint, which isn't even a complaint because it's free schwag and I should shut up and be happy; All the fat people sized shirts were gone before I got there. I couldn't even find a guys t-shirt to snag. grr! Next time, next time. :p
I so want to give this 5 stars, but there were a few things that could have been just a touch better... :: ducks to dodge tomatoes::
We showed up just minutes after 6 and all the shirts were gone. Boo. But I did score some reusable shopping totes and I love them! We started off at the vodka table but I don't really do hard alcohol so I sipped, frowned, and passed to the hub. I was on a beer mission, and my nose floated me over past the coffee station and over to the coffee porter. I was in heaven, sippin on a nice frosty beer latte. And conveniently enough, it was right where the line to the BBQ ended so we figured we'd dig in.
Wait wasn't bad at all... food looked great, and as we salivated on the way out of the porch, we walked in to find absolutely no place to eat. With a beer in one hand and a plate in the other, we were in distress. We ended up parking it at the water table, scooched some things off and made a little place to set our food down. I felt like a loser in the back corner but whatevs, the macaroni salad was killer! And the bbq sauce was spot on.
I agree with Shelli, I felt very cramped. Within 5 minutes of posting up at the water table, some other folks got the idea too and we were quickly taken over by a huge crowd and stuffed even more into the wall/windows. I couldn't breathe and our neighbors weren't very nice so it was almost a buzz kill. I made the move when we finished eating, over to the DJ when he started playing the acoustic set. Rockin! I pretty much stayed by the Toronado table all night dancing to the dj dude and chatting up the vendors. There was also a very cute baby I could stop watching... I love babies!
I just may be a bigger Yelper than I am a talker, so I am a little shy in person...and I really didn't feel like too many people were very inviting. Was it because I'm a newbie? Do I just not know the "right" Yelpers? I was kind of hoping to go home with a lot of new friends, but I guess 2 or 3 will do! Thanks for chatting me up outside Chris C. and Francis P.! And the vendors seemed much more approachable than the crowd if you ask me... everyone kind of had their own friends already but I guess that comes with frequenting these events and get togethers.
Over all, great party! If I didn't like my own company so much I probably would have been a little disappointed but I'm not. I'm ready for the next one, hopefully there is more room to float around and I get to know more folks while I'm there! And though I didn't get to personally thank you, busy boy Ruggy... you put on a lovely event. Thanks!
Great grub, great brew and great peeps.
The vibe was very positive, everyone was smiling, having a good time, no attitude.
Good Will Yelping!
How can any event where you get free BBQ, ice cream, beer beer and more beer, mixed drinks, coffee drinks, ice cream, a cool t-shirt, and you meet nice people, be anything less than a 5?!
Once again I think my savior and lord, sweet baby obama for letting me be a part of this!!
(Anyone else think the chicken was dry, though?!)
Being this was my first Yelp event, I didn't know what to expect. I was reluctant on going with a prego wife and 3 yr old at home, but she gave me the night off. All I can say, i'm glad she did because I had a great time.
The short story (since you can read the rest of the reviews):
Great venue, Awesome food, Tasty beer, Cool peeps and just a great vibe all the way around.
I was only a "+1", but I will have my bro drag me to the next Yelp event.
Thanks Ruggy for putting on a great event.
Hmmm how did my first Yelp event go? Let's see.
Delicious meaty BBQ. Ballast Point Yellowtail (quite possibly one of my favorite beers). Heaping cherry garcia sundaes from Ben and Jerrys WITH SPRINKLES. Euphoria Vodka (which I didn't partake in, but it was nice to know it was there for my none-driving yelpers). An awesome guy who looked like STEVEN SPIELBERG playing Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. Meeting the famous Phil and almost (ha) meeting the infamous Ruggy (such a popular fellow). And one of the most amazing cappuccini I've had outside of Italy provided by Cafe Calabria.
Does it get any better than that?
I think not.
My only con was that I didn't meet many Yelpers, but I think that's my own fault. Next time I should make an effort to be more socialable!
Oh the blueish/purple YELP shirt I snagged is pretty sweet too!
After finding Phils BBQ "Event Center", different from the main shack- we had a good time. I really liked the country feel of the venue. Wood walls, a big fire place...all we needed was snow! Walked in and scored a nice glass from Trumer, nice brew btw. Got a nifty little Yelp shirt- and when I say little- I mean little. Come on Yelp- we EAT food! We are not all smalls, even the mens sizes are itty bitty. The grocery bags were bigger than the shirts ;).
Phil's BBQ is double D'licious. The beef nibblers, giblets?? MMMM and the onion rings..mmm mmm mmm. Ben and J's, how can you go wrong?? Plus I think the B&J chick wanted me.
Very nice event, venue and pep's! Thanks Rugmister.
