A friend and his wife were visiting Boston from LA for the first time and wanted to go on a tour. They originally told me they wanted to see Harvard, so I sent the link for the Haahvad tour which also advertised the Ye Olde Boston Tour. The response was ok, let's do Ye Olde Boston at 1045. Whatevs, dude.
I've lived on the North Shore all my life and have worked in Boston for 5 years, but I actually enjoyed this tour and learned a lot. First off, it's led by students, which I like. The overweight middle-aged guys in costumes freak me out. They were super cheerful and energetic. It was a touch corny, but not so much that I was embarassed. I also liked the combination of history and fun "gore" facts (like the caretaker of the cemetary moving all the gravestones so he could mow). I wish it was a little longer, but it's nice to get a taste of certain things that you can always revisit. Ends in Quincy Market, so you could easily have a nice lunch out. -

The Ye Olde Boston Tour, through the student-run Unofficial Tours, provides an entertaining sampling of the highlights of the Freedom Trail.
Your energetic guides will point out very historic sites while sharing interesting and fun stories about the city. Don't expect to stay in one place too long, though you will have exclusive access to the South Meeting House -- where the Boston Tea Party was launched. This was the highlight of the tour for me, followed only be their rap in the Granary Burial Ground (it may seem a little disrespectful, but no one's actually buried where their headstones are, so maybe the point is moot).
This is not your typical tour of Boston with a costumed guide; instead, expect corny puns and tales you wouldn't hear from anywhere else.
Steve and Steve did a great job with the material they have to work with and I give them a lot of credit for their performance.
I went on this tour through a LivingSocial deal that was a tremendously good value and included a cup of chowder at the Union Oyster House. Overall, it was a cool and different way to see the city. -

Eh. 30 minutes shorter than the tours led by costumed guides, only a dollar less, and the students who led the tour didn't seem to know much off script. One person asked who a statue was in front of the City Hall building, and the guide said it was John Quincy Adams, despite it very clearly saying "Josiah Quincy" on the front of it.
Some of the bits were amusing, and the kids mean well, but I'd go on a free park service tour or one of the costumed guided tours over this. -

Even though I'm entering my fourth year as a Boston resident, I still found the tour interesting and educational. The tour guides are great and are very informative even when speaking off-script. I have a short attention span and really appreciated the brevity of the tour. The lively tour guides were also great entertainers even if their jokes can get a little corny sometimes. Definitely a great option for families with younger kids looking for a historic tour of Boston.

Just took this tour with Steve and Sam as guides. I am a 30+ year resident of Boston area and 2 friends from Arizona were with me. The tour was fun, interesting, very informative-a big bunch of fun and information.! Would give 5 stars but the people who run the business need to empty their voice mail boxes and start returning emails! I did not appreciate that.. Also, we arrived 10 minutes early, instead of 15 and both guides were leaving the meeting place and I had to run after them and that was a big problem!!
