Had a feast with my 4 year old.
-Chicken noodle soup was very satisfying. Tender chicken chunks, thick noodles and some fresh veggies in a huge bowl.
-Fried wontons: my daughter ate 3 or 4 of these crispy treats.  She approved.
-Pot stickers: nice thin pliable dough, satisfyingly juicy meat inside. Slightly too much garlic for my taste.
-Shrimp fried rice. OK.  Other stuff was much better
Service was really nice.  Friendly and prompt.  Attentive without being pushy.  I kept asking for things, and they were totally fine with coming to our table, helping out, and still being friendly.  Nice to feel relaxed and spoiled after a long day.

Yat Sing claims to have the best potstickers in town. Even though Redwood City is not exactly the haven for Chinese food, I think that is definitely a bit bold. Even if it were true, that's like saying "best burrito" in town in the middle of Chinatown; does not really prove a point when there's not much competition. Potstickers are quite decent here though; very juicy with a tender filling and a thin wrap that's slightly pan-fried. However, I am not sure about "the best" because there's gotta be some hole-in-the-wall restaurant that no one has glorified yet where some grandmas are churning out potstickers that taste like they're fresh off the boat from China.

I also ordered the Hunan Fried Prawns which were more like shrimp than prawns and tasted something I could get at Panda Express. Food is not bad, but they definitely cater more to the American taste.

I've been going to Yat Sing 3 since it opened. I knew the owners from their other restaurant near Marsh Road in Menlo Park where I had lunch regularly in the early 90s while working nearby. I usually stop-in between 1 and 2 times a week for lunch at the Redwood City location.

I think the food is very good and always fresh. The vegetable dishes always sparkle with freshness and are not overcooked into oblivion. No MSG is used in any dishes. The chicken dishes are tasty, but I also like the soups--Hot and Sour and War WonTon are particular favorites. Service is always attentive and helpful and prices are very reasonable and fair. Lest I forget about the potstickers, they are the best in the area, no doubt about it. They are handmade right in the restaurant daily, along with other special preparations.

Yat Sing is a reliable source for fresh Chinese food with some particular standouts. If you tend to order the "standard" American Chinese dishes (e.g., Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef) you can expect these will taste familiar to you. Always try the potstickers, and give the soups a try when the weather turns cool.

I despise false advertising, cheapness and alike so my review will highlight this... I was alerted to this restaurant while scoping out Quiznos next door and saw a huge 20' neon sigh stating "Best Pot Sticker in Town" being a real pot sticker expert/addict I was diverted from my normal lunch fair to a nice clean Chinese restaurant with charming wait staff but my pot stickers were dreadful, what a disappoint to me to have a microwave pot sticker that fell apart with no taste... then after that I thought I would try the BBQ pork buns they where only marginally better .....At any rate if you like nice clean Chinese restaurants with charming wait staff terrible food then this is your destination....

I have had food delivered from Yat Sing before and I always thought it was just ok.  Last night I was starving and I really didn't feel like cooking anything. My boyfriend and I decided to drive up Woodside Rd to see what we could find.  We passed by Yat Sing 3 and saw the sign that said "Best potstickers in town".  We thought why not.  We walked in at about 840pm and were led to a freshly wiped table.  The waitress handed us a menu and we of course ordered the potstickers.  We also grabbed the ginger garlic pork and the mongolian lamb.  I have to say that the potstickers were quite tasty.  I'll have to remember to get that from them again.  The Mongolian lamb was flavorful but I really wasn't sure if that was lamb or pork.  It was hard to tell.  The garlic ginger pork was pretty good but I felt that it was a little on the salty side.  Then again, we're talking about chinese food here.

The waitress came over to check on us and asked if we needed anything else because the kitchen was about to close.  We thanked her for letting us know. We didn't realize that we came in close to closing time.  In fact, they were still letting people in at 9pm.

We were very full after our hefty dinner and were very much satisfied.

We grabbed our check and it came out to about 25 dollars.  I felt the price wasn't that bad for friendly service and kick ass potstickers.

All in all, I would definitely come back here again,

Three stars for the mostly decent Chinese food. Bumped up to four for the friendly wait staff and the superlative potstickers - 'best in town' according to the neon sign in the window that drew me into the place (well, to be totally honest - the neon sign followed by checking Yelp).

The potstickers are beautifully crafted (seriously) and fried to perfection. The skins are on the thinner side, and the filling is gingery. In general I prefer thicker skins and meatier filling, but I really enjoyed these. Maybe I'll just get two plates of these for myself next time I visit.

Yes, the pot stickers are delish! My other favorites were the Walnut prawns, and salt & pepper pork! Chicken rolling lettuce wraps were nice too. Where is my hollow leg when I need it?
I was a little nervous when we went in with a young baby... one wrong move and he could have cleared the place out... The employees were all so nice... making faces at him and keeping him happy!
Really, this place was tasty... I think I will be back!!!

Potstickers are super fresh -- but a bit on the large side. Skin is thin and nice though. Comes with white vinegar and chili oil so you can "mix your own sauce".

Ordered the "phoenix and dragon" (or maybe it's the other way around?), which is chicken, shrimp and veggies stir-fried in a brown sauce. It's pretty standard.

I went to try it because of all these good review in Yelp. errr.... but i don't think so.

Tried Kung Pao Chicken and Combination fried rice.

They got the Kung Pao Chicken ALL WRONG, it tasted sooo sour, WTF! no way Kung Pao Chicken has any hint of sour taste, they must think the average Americans like "sweet & sour" anything, thus adding the sour taste.

Combination fried rice was OK, a 3 star

I'll see if I'll give them another chance.

The big neon window display says, "Best Potsticker In Town", and they may have a point; I quite enjoyed the postickers. However, they don't have a potsticker *sauce*, they simply provide you vinegar, soy sauce, chili oil, and let you go at it. Sichuan Delight, on El Camino, on the other hand, has pre-made potsticker sauce that is excellent, a wonderful blend of soy, vinegar, and just enough spices to be very tasty, not overpoweringly hot.

The main dish we got, cashew chicken, was okay, although it seemed like the chicken content was low, and bulk was achieved with carrots and celery (both of which I dislike). The flavor was fairly bland (although admittedly I tend to go for spicier Chinese dishes, my date doesn't do spicy at all), and I was fairly disappointed. My date ended up with an upset stomach after dinner as well (and no, it wasn't a ploy to get me to leave...) although my years of ingesting things only barely classified as 'foodstuffs' seems to have protected me from any gastrointestinal issues.

Very good family place. I have 2 kids and they know us on sight. Great food. I don't like the potstickers and I have tried many times but I just don't like them.

However the walnut prawn is da bomb and the husband adores the schezwan prawns. Also the wonton soup is very good.

Great place and the price is very decent..we have two kids and fine the dinner b for 2,an noodle dish and apitizer are plenty to feed up with a bit left over for lunch the next day.

I love going to Yat Sing in Redwood City. The service is always good and the food is consistently above average. The potstickers are excellent, but not the best in town. I'm a big fan of ordering way too much food, then nibbling on the rest for the next couple of days. I like trying different dishes there as last night I had the Egg Foo Young Prawns - YUM!

Try it, you'll like it.

In the window, it says in bright neon lights, "BEST POSTICKER IN TOWN!"  From that, one could deduce that they have one, and only one potsticker that is better than the rest.  Don't make the mistake of misreading that sign!  Not only do they have awesome potstickers, everything on their menu is superb!  In my previous reviews, I have commented on subpar service by the waitstaff at Asian restaurants.  This place is definately the exception...from the host at the door (Lawrence) to the waiters behind him, all top-notch!  You'll find Lawrence working on Monday and Wednesday nights, but even when he's not in, this place doesn't slip!

Here's what I ordered:
Potstickers (Can't come here without ordering them.  That would be a crime.)
Hunan Chicken
Dry Fried String Beans
BBQ Pork Fried Rice w/extra Green Onions (The BBQ Pork is made in-house!)

Large portions, and very good prices!

If you happen to be in the Redwood City or the surrounding areas, stop by and check this place out.  If you see a young man working at the front, ask if his name is Lawrence.  If he responds yes, tell 'em that Dan sent ya!!!

Good Chinese place. It's no Rickshaw Corner in Foster City but it's good. I've been there twice and had the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Cashew Chicken. I wasn't a huge fan of the sweet and sour sauce but the Cashew Chicken was good.  My husband and his co-workers go there at least twice a week and they love it. My husband thinks it's way better than Rickshaw Corner.

It's a good place for Chinese and I'll go back again. They have good lunch specials and the pot stickers are delicious.

In any culture if you say as good as Mom's cooking, it s a compliement, but especially in Chinese culture.  There you go .   Yat Sing is as good as Mom's home cooking  Mom's was very good.  I like the fact that there is alway parking and tables available.  They take your order as soon as you're ready and they don't try to rush you out.  I also like take home from here because the food is so fresh  (esp. the vegies) that it still tastes good when we get it home.

Good fresh veggies, nice lamb dishes, close to home and lovely for take-out or dine-in.  What a blessing to stagger in here after our moving day and be well taken care of!

True, it's not the spiciest set of tastes on the planet, but that ginger is bright and fresh, and I love it!

Take-out takes VERY little time (10 minutes or so).  Very nice folks.

Yat Sing is my "I want something better than Mr Chau's" Chinese food place. It's within walking distance of my house, the prices for the dinners are manageable ($8-$10 per person) and I have never had a bad experience.

The food is decent enough, no MSG and not oily or greasy like Mr Chau's.  I've had the Deluxe Dinner, The Regular Dinner and the Dinner For The Undecided.

Im going three stars because the place is just "there" - middle of the road, not great, not crappy.

Hmmm. . . . feeling lazy right now and kinda hungry - maybe I'll walk over to Yat Sing.

Edible and decent service.

Stay away from any of the squid dishes unless you like rubber.

Most of the dishes are dumbed down and aimed at white folks.

If you'll notice ,not many Chinese visit the place and probably won't.

If it weren't close by ,I would never eat here.

Black bean sauce items are way too watery and the items like mustard sauce chicken and hot and sour pork are way too timidly prepared.

A better version of Mr Chau's.

Mostly bland and uninteresting.

We moved away from our favorite Chinese Restaurant and were in search of a new place. Yat Sing is around the corner from our new home, in walking distance. So it was the first choice on our quest.

The restaurant is clean, spacious and bright.
The staff is great, very friendly and personable. Very child friendly. The food arrives fast.

We have not been able to try the whole menu. Some of our favorites include
Ants on the tree (Beef with rice noodles), Ginger and Garlic Chicken, Westlake Soup, Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Lemon Chicken - but there is so much more to try.

And the pot stickers? I have no idea whether they are the best in town as our search for Chinese food has stopped at Yat Sing, but they are definitely delicious and worth a try.

Have been here twice and they have the best sweet and sour pork I've ever had, but some of the other dishes aren't so good.  Cashew chicken is mushy and tasteless.  Beef and Broccoli has very little beef and the broccoli is so hard you can cut it (no knives.)  The restaurant itself is roomy and pleasant.

I'm new to the area and was looking for good Chinese. I tried Woodside Plaza location last night and was not impressed. The food is not greasy, but there was nothing that I tried that really stood out. As other reviews recommended, I tried the lamb (4 seasons lamb). It is unique to see this dish on a Chinese menu, but like the other dishes, there was nothing fabulous about it. I love lamb, but the meat was overcooked and could have just as well been beef. I did not try the pot stickers. I tried 4 dishes total, including pork won ton soup. The soup lacked flavor.
Another review commented that the prices on their web page were not updated. I didn't compare item for item, but if the web prices are off, it's not by much. I ordered off the web menu and paid about what I expected at the restaurant.

To each his/her own, so you should try it once to see if you like it, but I was under impressed such that I'm not interested in going back for a second chance. Too many other places to try.

I saw this place while going to Michael's and I'm always looking for good Chinese food, so my boyfriend and I got our lunch to go. The service was quick and from the sign saying "Best Pot Stickers!" we had to order some. We got the BBQ pork fried rice, broccoli beef, beef chow fun, and the pot stickers. (Yes, a white-ish version of Chinese food, but we love it!)

I absolutely loved the food! The pot stickers tasted slightly too garlicy for my taste, but I was holding it to high standards since it was advertised as being the best! It was definitely the best pot sticker I had in a while. The prices were average compared to other Chinese Restaurants. The few times we've had their food, it was always to go, so I can't say anything about their service while dining in the restaurant. Of the experiences I've had so far, I give this place 5 stars. It has been fantastic each time!

Good food, not oily, will do no MSG on request.

The lamb with sweet peas were very good.

The pot stickers were pretty good - they have a neon sign proclaiming "BEST POT STICKER IN TOWN". I'll reserve judgement; this is my first chinese dinner in Redwood City in years.

Pros: Friendly, big, clean.

Cons: I want to stick to the spicier dishes next time.

We love this place! It is one of our regular spots for both dine in and carry out. The service is extremely great...they are fast and friendly.

I am not a pot stickers person so I can't comment on those but I think that I have had close to everything else on the menu . My current addiction is lettuce wraps. I also love the salt and pepper tofu and pretty much every spicy garlic dish (we ask for extra spicy). They accommodate the picky eater in me by substituting green onions for white onions in their dishes.

I end up here occasionally because it's within walking distance of home, but I only come here if I'm in the mood for bland.  The positives are that you can get brown rice, and their vegetables taste very fresh.  I often get the "Veggie Deluxe" and ask them to make it spicy, which results in good fresh veggies with barely any bite to it.  As long as I'm in the mood for that, fine.  Their foil wrapped chicken is yummy and saucy.  They have a mustard chicken dish that I want to like, but somehow something seems missing, and I often feel that way eating here. Good veggies, though.

First one to review this place - although there are reviews of sister restaurant Yat Sing 2.

We just moved to the area and were hoping to find a solid, tasty Chinese place within a short drive - we found it.  As the sign says, get the potstickers.  These guys know potstickers.  Bar none the best I've had, although I will say I haven't been blessed with amazing, spectacular Chinese food to this point in my life.

The sweet-and-sour chicken, beef broccoli, and everything fried rice were all solid, and the leftovers held up well two days later.  That's all I was looking for; the potstickers made my day.

Came here last nite, its just a few blocks from my house and we felt like Chinese. It's definately no Su Hong, but it was ok.  They advertise the BEST POTSTICKERS and well, they are not that great.  For me anyway, they were loaded with ginger! Ugh I dont even like ginger but that's all I could taste?  Then we got the fried wontons and the sweet and sour sauce I swear had ginger in it!  WTF.   We got chow mein, fried rice and super spicy chicken.  The rice was great, the chow mein was kind of mushy and the chicken was good but really spicy.  Service was kind of slow, but the place was actually packed. All in all we might go back to try some other stuff.

If you like P.F. Chang and think that represents "chinese" food, then you will be sorely disappointed and hopefully at some point you'll realize that you have no clue about Chinese food.

If you are looking for a "hidden" place with excellent Chinese food then Yat Sing is the place.  The pot stickers are great and they have excellent lamb dishes (which is unusual for a Chinese restaurant).  The service is fast and good, and the place is clean.  What more do you want?

My best friend raved about this place for a long time.  I finally went and DAM!  Simple the best! I will never eat Chinese anywhere else. I have been to both locations and they are equal in quality.  2 weeks ago it was a cold night.  I went in and ordered and told them i was going to wait in my truck.    They quickly responded, saying they would gladly bring it out to me when it was ready!! GREAT FOOD, SUPER NICE!!!!  Look for the "Best Potsticker In Town" neon sign, cause it is NO BS
