Came here with friends to watch the Arizona v Oregon game. We were quickly seated and got to watch the Pac-10 football game and the replay of the UCLA bball game. sweet. Pac-10 sports are always fun to watch.
We were quickly greeted by our server, Raul. He was very knowledgeable about all the beers and gave us some great suggestions. I think everyone enjoyed the beers he suggested. I had the blue seadog.. or something like that. it was a blueberry tasting beer. It reminded me of a blueberry muffin. =]
For dinner I got the Country Fried Chicken. The chicken breast was huuuuge and the mashed potatoes were awesome. yuuum. it came with a cream sauce that tasted kind of off. It tasted like sweet cream with no other flavors. However, everything tasted good when eaten together.
I was amazed at the great service with out busy the restaurant was. I'm sure we will be back.
Went here with a few coworkers before the Lakers vs. Bulls game. Apparently, Yard House has the world's largest selection of draft beer. Not exactly your local average sports bar, people!
Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that it would be a 15-25 minute wait for a table, but it ended up being more like 5-10 minutes. Nice! We were seated outside, which was my preference anyway since it was a bit stuffy inside.
The beer section is at the front of the menu (obvi). I ordered the Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse. Apparently they used to serve yard-long beers, but don't have them anymore... the largest size you can get is 1/2 yard. The food was actually pretty good. I had the Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza. Also tried the Mac & Cheese Squared, which was great too.
In short, amazing location, extensive beer selection, good food, friendly staff -- it all adds up to a great place to hang out with friends. Parking is expensive though.
Parking info at the L.A. Live garage:
$5= First 4 hours, with cinema validation (ticket purchase necessary); $5= First 2 hours without cinema validation;
$5= Each additional 1/2 hour (or fraction thereof, $25 maximum)
$10= Flat rate for cars entering after 9:00pm
This Yard House is one of the restos in the LA Live complex and seems to get extra business on pre-game nights. A group of us came here for a pre-Lakers game dinner since you can't beat the 'across the street from the Staples Center' convenience.
Wait time was about 25-30 mins and as quoted. The place is incredibly loud. Menu is your standard mixed fare in this type of resto with appys, burgers, fish, meat and salads. The group had a variety of things from burgers to rice dishes. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable - about $15-20 a person.
Tables are nicely spaced, huge and quite comfortable. Food is average in taste but comes quickly. Their claim to fame is their huge selection of beer on tap but I'm not a beer drinker so can't comment on that.
Definitely just A-OK in my books but a safe spot for a pre-game meal.
Great selection of beer.
Orange chicken was really good. Great flavor and not over the top on the orange.
Great place for happy hour and good place to go to enjoy a laker game if u arent going to the staples center. They have one of the greatest selection of beers with i think over 250 on tap. The waiters are nice and the food is good . Its a great piece of La live and just an overall great experience every time i go
My dad and I went here before a Kings game at Staples Center (he already beat me to the review) and I have to confirm that this is hands down one of the greatest locations to prepare yourself for a good hockey match. This is within walking distance of the arena, simply walk across the street and *poof* you are there.
The Happy Hour is ridiculously awesome as far as price and variety are concerned. My dad bought us food and we must have paid like, 20 bucks or something, and he had a beer.
I wasn't feeling too well so I didn't partake of the massive selection of beers being funneled from the ARMY OF KEGS made visible through the window looking in towards their back room, which may seem silly for me to neglect considering that the place is named after the crazy yards of beer you can buy.
However, what I did enjoy was the incredible selection of food items on their Happy Hour menu including such totally awesome items as seared ahi sashimi, a tower of onion rings, garlic fries, buffalo wings and other sports STAPLES (see what I did there?). The price was seriously great, at last check it was only a few bucks for an item off the appetizer list and the entrees included a set of four sliders that we split.
The environment was filled with the energy of dozens of friendly sports fans at the edge of their seat regarding the tiebreaker baseball game being broadcast on the big screens, and the service was friendly. I'm going to a Kings game tomorrow night with co-workers, and naturally I'm insisting we hit up this place again so I can devour half of the items on their happy hour menu... and of absolute importance, I'm not having to drive home. Rock on.
Overall = 95% fail
Service = 95% fail
Food = ?
Cliff notes:
After being seated, the wait staff became invisible, which made me feel the same way.
When the food finally got there, I was was so freaking hungry and frustrated, I just wanted to wolf it down and GTFO.
Details:
To be fair, I was not involved in arranging the event, so I can't say if anything could have been done better beforehand. I attended as a guest.
We were a party of 20 or so adults with 3 kids. We were seated promptly upon arrival. It was all downhill after that. Little did we know, but they sat us on a slippery slope that got steeper the longer we were there.
The customized (and limited) menu was a nice touch. It impressed the children, and made me feel as though we were expected.
We waited about ten minutes for our drink orders to be taken. After about ten more minutes, the drinks started to arrive. Two servers appeared, each serving 5-6 drinks. They both left, each taking ten more minutes to return with the balance of our drink order.
I began to feel uneasy about the service.
Countdown so far, 30 minutes, and the drinks have finally arrived. Well sort of. One in our party didn't receive his drink order the entire time. The servers were reminded of this at every opportunity. Despite their being very apologetic and promising their prompt attention to his order, it never arrived. Never.
I kept an eye open for a server. The coffee was decent, and I would have liked a refill. None could be seen. Well none that would cast a glance toward our table.
They allowed us another 10 minutes to savor our drinks (sarcasm, most glasses sitting empty upon the table).
No one asked us if we want another drink. No one looked our way. No one stopped by to say that their tip is guaranteed, so they'd be busy sucking up elsewhere where it will do them more good.
At this point I have finished losing confidence in our servers.
They arrive to take our food order. Due to a limited menu that we each have had 40 minutes to study, things are moving along. Whoa, a snag. We have children. No food substitutions allowed. No children's menu.
"I'm sorry miss. but this six year old girl will not touch anything on this menu.", I say smiling, "Can you bring her some spaghetti with a red sauce?"
She replies, "Sorry sir, but the other menu is not available where you're seated, and by the way, we have no red sauce."
I say, "Oh okay, then she'll have nothing."
Awkward silence.
She says, "I'll ask the kitchen." She then helps finish taking the food order.
Ten minuted elapse. (Have you noticed the pattern here?)
She returns with happy news. The child can have plain spaghetti. No sauce. We order it. I'm afraid to ask for butter or anything else.
I was loathe at that point to ask for a coffee refill.
Ten minutes elapse.
Ten more. Not a server in sight.
I go in search of a refill. I hover around the entrance to the kitchen, coffee cup in hand, unnoticed for a full minute. I enter the kitchen, and observe. The crew is frenetically slinging the various hashes one direction or another, barely slowed as they wince to the angry-tense exhortations of a guy in a white dress shirt (not me).
Coffee finally secured, I return to my seat.
Ten minutes elapse. A server is waylayed. Under interrogation, she 'confesses' that due to us ordering some meats 'well-done', plus the kitchen's desire to serve us all simultaneously, our prep time needed to be extended.
So I'm thinking, "It's our fault presenting a limited menu to a large party, and some of them having the gall to order food prepared to their liking."
Then ten more minutes elapse. The food starts arriving. Ninety minutes have elapsed. Everyone is served, except the six year old. Two full adult plates return to the kitchen, unclaimed. A reminder to the server, 'plain noodles please'.
I forget what I ordered. I'm sure that it was some meat item, cooked medium, with a starch side-something. I was simply too bored and hungry to care.
At the end of it all, everybody got what they wanted. The restaurant got paid to serve an order on their terms, with a built-in gratuity. The customers got to leave.
I'd like to think that both sides will learn from this, but I doubt it.
This is not a bad spot for dinner. On a Friday night there was no wait, albeit the ambiance in the restaurant is quite loud.
I ordered some sort of fish that I can't even remember at this point. Ah, it was swordfish. I probably wouldn't order it again. My friend got halibut, and I thought that was much better, although he had stomach issues afterwards. :/
Great place to watch a football game. A few friends and I were craving some calamari during half-time of the USC-ND game, so we went over to Yardhouse to eat some appetizers. We sat out on the patio and ordered 2 appetizers to share, along with one draft beer float each. I didn't have one, but apparently, they're absolutely amazing.
The service was extremely, EXTREMELY friendly. When we sat down to watch the game, there was no sound, so they quickly went to turn on closed captioning so we could follow the plays. Water was refilled constantly, despite the volume of customers inside. The waitress was friendly and went out of her way to help us find out how the other games were playing out (Florida was tied 20-20 when last I checked. I asked her when we asked for more water, she didn't know, went inside, gave us the final score, then went back inside to grab a pitcher of water).
Great service. Decent food. Great place for gameday.

Review only for happy hour.

We went to the Kings game at Staples Center last night. Once again, Staples is my favorite sports venue. What a great arena. The place is clean, impeccably maintained and very well-staffed. Nevertheless, like any other stadium, Staples rapes you at the snack bar. You practically have to take out a second mortgage just to buy a few hot dogs and sodas for the kiddies. And don't even think about getting yourself a beer. Seriously, they should pour the drafts into sparkling, golden goblets with the prices they charge for beer. A buxom wench in a bustier should kneel by your seat and wipe your chin for you with a satin hanky. But noooooo! All Staples gives you is an empty wallet and stomach left growling. What can you do about it? Don't eat at Staples!
Go to the weeknight games early. You beat the rush hour traffic and you can get in on the happy hour at the Yard House until 6:00 PM. I usually don't like chains, but the Yard House has a million-zillion beers on tap. All of those pretty, pretty taps behind the bar... it's like I died and went to beer guzzler heaven.
The Yard House has their pizzas, most of their appetizers and a large selection of brews on sale for 1/2 price during happy hour. My son and I got some sliders with a huge portion of garlic fries, an onion ring tower and a couple of beers for just over $20 bucks. Hell, all that food would set you back $50+ at Staples and wouldn't taste nearly as good. The service was also very good. We didn't wait long for anything and the waitress was appropriately attentive. I love the beer selection, but it makes it tough to decide. I ended up with a Stone Ruination IPA that really hit the spot after a long day at work.
The Yard House's huge dining room is filled with dozens of flat screen TV's. They had the Tigers v. Twins game playing while we were there. I almost hated to leave before it was over, but I didn't want to miss a second of my first hockey game of the season.(Great game. Kings won a nail-biter and there were two fistfights. Go Kings!)
The Yard House is a quick walk through the mall to the Staples Center entrance. We'll definitely be there to fill up our bellies before the next game.
Met some friends here before a concert at Club Nokia. The place is next to the soon to open Four Seasons Hotel. Although part of a big chain, it has a good vibe. Service was excellent and quick for such a big restaurant. Everyone (6) enjoyed their meals and there's a huge selection of beers, including samplers, available.
A good place to hang before or after a movie/concert/event in the LA.Live/Staples mega complex. Parking is not cheap nearby unless you want to walk a few blocks. If you can find a meter in the area, its free after 8pm.
Made the mistake of going here when there was a Kings game. The place was packed to the rafters and it took 20 minutes to get a drink. Due to the crowd, I decided to go elsewhere for food but I have eaten at the YH in Irvine and it was quite good. The menu here is identical and likely to be as good.
Friday afternoon. having a little munch after a whole week of classes. but not wanting to over indulge until dinner?
COME ON OVER TO YARDHOUSE FOR HAPPY HOUR.
certain appetizers and pizzas are HALF OFF.
and you might think meh.. it's not going to be the tasty ones. but oh no.. you still get a wide variety of choices.
My frat bros (and sistas) went as one of our fellowship events. and it was a hugeeee group of people so they didn't want to sit us altogether. lamee. but it was better in some sense because we were able to get those huge booths for like five people in each booth. spacious. grandiose. and delicious. oh and still a personal atmosphere-- whatever that means.. :))
anyways so there were three guys and two girls in my table and we ordered four appetizers-- which were PLENTY.
we ordered the calamari, buffalo wings, spinach dip, and the onion ring tower. (YES. we like everything fried!)
the bill was exactly $26.00-- tax and tip included. see how cheap it is?
yea so im tellin ya.. go on over and take advantage of their happy hour. awkward time of day but for all you yelpers~ i know we're all down to eat some good food whenever and where ever. :))
by the way! yard house is a part of dine la. so take advantage of that too! :))
I've said previously that the Yard House is a great place to watch a Lakers or USC game, and that the surf and turf burger was very good. 4 stars...
But now I've gone to late-night happy hour. Monday through Wednesday, from 10 pm until closing, the prices are a godsend. $4.00 for a Mirror Pond pale ale? Yes!
$6.50 for Bearnaise sliders (w/ fries)? Yes! (Seriously, that's like the same prices as Jack-in-the-Box sliders)
We felt like chowing down, so us four got a buffalo chicken pizza (custom order), pineapple and ham pizza, bearnaise sliders, calamari, chicken strips, and buffalo wings. All that for less than forty bucks. Are you kidding me? I might just come here every week!
PS. we have a secret parking spot to avoid that ridiculous LA live pricing. Sorry that I can't tell you, but it's easy to find if you drive around for a little bit (think around Pico...)

Good place to watch a USC or Lakers game. During NBA playoffs, it was pretty crazy in there.

Annoying waiters. Kept calling me chief, bro, and dude. Maybe that's their thing but the phony attitude seems so, phony.
Ordered the BBQ bacon and cheese (well). Very good burger! The BBQ had a sweet but not overly sweet bite to it. Very yummy! The fries were shoe-string sized. Good but not worthy of any major mentioning.
Great beer selection! Had a pint of Yard house's pale. Good stuff. Followed that with Blue Moon's pumpkin ale. Fail! That was a sad pumpkin ale!
The bar tender happily swapped it with Sam Adam's October fest.
I'd visit this place again if the opportunity presented itself.
It's a quick ride to this Yardhouse from K-town so when you have the munchies on a Sunday night and looking for a chill happy hour (10pm-close) this spot isn't bad. . . .3.50-4.50 beers, half on pizzas, appetizers and sliders. . .everything thing was dank. . .quick friendly service and they never seem to mind when I build my munchies inside their restaurant. . . eclipse and snakebite are good beers. . . the spinach dip, sliders, jamaican wings, fries, chicken nachos, and bbq chicken pizza were very dankhizzle. . . enjoy this spot it gets super cracking sometimes! . . . so I had this review waiting to be finished so here it goes. . . I've gone back to the Yardhouse since I started this review and I think I've tasted a great majority of their beer- very dank. I dig their lobster dip and and guiness blend they have. . . Favorite drinking spot at LA Live. . .aight i'm done, ciao
LOVE this place. It's an American restaurant that offers a bigger selection of food than most other American restaurants. My visiting friend and I came here three days in a row the week of the American Idol 8 finale tapings, and each time the staff was gracious and prompt despite the fact that the restaurant was mad busy. The lunch special -- the usual half/half soup/salad/sandwich/pizza for $8.95 -- is a great deal. I always get the crab cake sandwich (INCREDIBLE) and the clam chowder. Also, as everyone else has said, go for happy hour! Half-priced appetizers = food heaven. My favourite was the Korean bbq beef. I wasn't a huge fan of the buffalo chicken strips -- too much over-fried batter.
Only reason I'm giving it four stars is the menu's rather pricey if you're not there for lunch or happy hour, and parking at LA Live is a bitch. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you park in one of the garages.
The beer selection alone deserves a 5 star rating. It's AMAZING! Try some of the mixed beers, they've got some interesting combinations that are definitely very good.
Happy hour is by far the best time to come here. The appetizers are amazing. My only problem is that many of the dishes are chicken dishes. Literally everything is chicken. I don't think there's any pork, chicken, or fish available. I'll have to double check next time.
Lunch and dinner here are also good. Burgers are very good, and the dinner plates are decent too. Nothing spectacular, but again, the beer makes up for it.
I was loft hunting in Downtown and the USC game was about to begin and we were trying to decide where we should go. We thought about ESPN Zone but from my experiences in Downtown Disney the food is blah unless you are getting a burger so we decided to go to the Yardhouse.
I have been to several Yardhouses so I know the menu. The biggest difference from one to another is really just the location.
We tried to park off of Chick Hearn Way but it was the Emmy's at the Nokia Theatre and they were charging $20 for parking in the W Garage so we went to E Garage off of Olympic. It has $5 for first 2 hours and $5 each half hour after and we were not going to stay for the entire game.
Let me just say...if you are a USC fan this IS the place to come. This place seats a couple hundred people and almost everyone was wearing the SC jerseys.
I had an appetizer for dinner...the Chinese Garlic Noodles with Shittake Mushroom which was really good except for leaving you with some nasty breath. My SO had the turkey sandwich which he did not care for.
There were a few UCLA fans in their with their SC friends that loved when SC screwed up and threw it in their faces but in the end SC won....Fight On!

This place has one of the best happy hours in LA. I come here a lot during the Sunday-Wednesday 10pm-12pm happy hour. You can get even the gourmet Belgian beers like Gulden Drak for only $4-$5 which might actually be cheaper than Bevmo. Besides the 160 different beers they offer on tap, they have some kick ass appetizers on the happy hour menu. The spicy tuna roll is nothing like you've ever had. There is no rice. There are different layers of vegetables, edamame, and spicy tuna, shaped like a cake.
There is only one really annoying thing about the Yardhouse and maybe I can't blame them because they are a big chain and they have to cover their ass: They will card you till your ID wears out even if you look like you have grandchildren. Don't ever go there without a valid ID unless you don't plan to drink.
The most impressive part about the Yardhouse is the attentive service. Last time I was there for dinner with a friend, our medium and well-done burgers had gotten switched. I have had past experiences in other restaurants where my burger was far more cooked than I wanted and I didn't enjoy the meal at all because I didn't speak up. So this time, when we told the waiter that the burgers had gotten switched, we were treated like kings. Not only did they fix us a whole new set of burger and fries with the appropriate patties, they gave us a huge discount as an apology. Even the manager came out and apologized for the mistake. Rock on.
We've eaten at Yard House Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Pasadena/Glendale, where else... oh! Newport..... I'm sure there is another one.... I've been to a lot of Yard Houses!
I LOVE the Yard House, I love the music, the huge bar, the beautiful people, the booths and the FOOD. It's consistant and very California. We celebrated my DH's b-day at a Yard House and I was able to request special music ahead of time! very cool! anyway, the downtown yard house is ritght on up there. My favorite salad is still my favorite salad and the service is top notch. we can walk to this establishment, so I suspect we'll be back. They have a patio so we can take Bridget as soon as it cools off!
Really nice place, beer selection is amazing, atmosphere and TV setup is perfect for watching a game, but the food was soo soo bad. I understand it was game night and they were busy, but that's no excuse for a hamburger bun that was half baked. The burger tasted like it had all the gunk of the grill stuck on it. Someone at my table even gave back their food because it was dry. I really had high expectations for this place. When you pay 15 bux for a burger, you expect it to be better than Carls Jr. Let me just say not even the fries were better.
Moral of the story...don't go on game night unless you just want a beer.
We needed somewhere to eat after going to the Anime Expo, and that wouldn't mind that people were still in their cosplay goodness, when we landed here at the suggestion of a LA localer.
I, having never heard of this chain, was actually pleasantly surprised. It has a very swank and hip decorum, a TON of beer to select from and not bad food.
We ordered the jambalaya, ribs, and garlic noodles. The jambalaya rice was meh. It was this long grain, extra skinny type of rice that they just served in the center of the sauces. I guess for my jambalaya I always expect it to be mixed in, and soaking up the sauces, so I was a bit disappointed with that. But the ribs and the garlic noodles surely made up for that. The ribs were tender enough for a chain restaurant and I think I could eat 10 plates of the garlic noodles as the flavor was soooooo good.
Finally I had like 2 framboise here? Yeah seriously, at a beer place I ordered framboise. But I wanted something sweet, and the framboise here was like friggin' ambrosia from the gods. It was sweet and had this perfect rosy color.
I like good variety of beer, nice decor and their bathroom which was very clean.
We can watch any sports on lots of TVs.
It was too freezing in our table and service wasn't good.
Food was OK, but some are very spicy. Big portion.
I've been to a Yard House before in Arizona and enjoyed it thoroughly for the sports bar on steroids atmosphere + the unexpectedly-delicious food.
Located at the L.A. Live complex, this place looks ideal for a pre-, during or post-game burger + booze, specifically their yard of beer. I was also surprised by the random art on the wall that didn't seem to fit the beefed-up sports bar aesthetic. Just like before I was surprised by the quality of food. I had their BBQ Bacon + Cheese Burger, with its Rum BBQ Sauce + roasted garlic aioli. It was an amazing slab of bar food. The myriad plasma TVs everywhere allowed us to watch everything from basketball + football to fishing + golf. If I was there to pound back a few after my team won, I'd sure choose the Yard House.
I don't usually order delivery in LA, but I did this day. The food here was delicious. We got tradtional burgers, fries and onion rings and they were all amazing. I was surprised to see that nothing was soggy. Usually burger buns are always soggy from the moisture or sauce, but this was the cleanest 1/2 lb burger i've ever eaten! The onion rings and fries were perfect too!
Do people come here outside of happy hour? Granted, as a recent USC graduate, I roll with a crew of cash-poor students, but I've never of anyone going here for lunch, or dinner, or anything but appetizers and beer.
And, really, why would you? Only last night, during my fourth or fifth visit, did I open the menu past the second page... And it looked kind of boring and overpriced.
Back to the happy hour, though... The beers (all 118 or whatever of them) are $4, the martinis are $6.25, and the appetizers are half-priced... Oh, the appetizers! The sliders are some of my favorite burgers (and they come with deliciously crispy and thin fries), the sushi "rolls" are playful and oversized, the Hawaiian poke stack is delicious, the onion rings are delicious, the egg rolls are delicious, et cetera, et cetera.
The only thing that could improve the happy hour, in my humble opinion, is a listing of featured or recommended beers... 100+ choices can be a bit overwhelming and the servers are good but not great at helping you choose something to suit your tastes.
PROTIP: If you are a nice and friendly person, you can usually get your server to extend happy hour at least a few minutes past deadline... But, then again, this isn't much of a protip since being nice and friendly will generally help you get things in life.
Totally dig it! Great food, love the lunch special (huge portion) and all in all good atmosphere. I've never had to wait for a table - huge place. Friendly staff. Yay! I'm a fan! Haha.
I like this yard house! Happy Hours are always fun here and I like that outdoor patio they got going. Food is you know, Yard House food -- nothing fancy but the energy here is full of young professionals hoping to have a good time. If you're debating between here and ESPN Zone, definitely come here! Good times!
Wow... the Long Beach YH has about 200 reviews, and the Pasadena one has about 300... this one already has over 110? Sure didn't feel that way walking in.
Granted, this place is built for those capacity packing nights that they have something crazy going on at the Staples Center, or for eventually when this area becomes a pretty crazy area to hang out...
Otherwise, I think the big draw back for most is the hassle of looking for parking. 2 options. Get here before 6, for happy hour deals... Get here after 6 and score free meter parking in the area. My option was to park at the apt building of a relative nearby, and walk over... though unfortunately we got off work too late to make happy hour...
Anyway, nice to get the good consistent food... without the typical wait that you find at YH's around. Probably a pretty fun place to watch anything that might be happening around Staples Center with all those people who weren't able to score some last second tickets. If you're like me, one of the better spots since it isn't too crowded yet.
Following my own advice, Yard House is a good place for drinks and fried food.
We stopped in for happy hour last night. Unfortunately, happy hour is only from 3-6 so we barely squeaked in for a round of drinks. I did appreciate the waitress telling us 5 minutes before it ended so we ordered up another round. Happy hour is actually anywhere in the restaurant which surrounds a massive bar. Just check in with the hostess first.
Our server was a vivacious young thing who carded us, telling us truthfully she has no idea how to tell people's ages. I suppose their rule is to card if they look 35 and under.
We ordered the blue crab cakes, seared ahi tuna, Hawaiian poke stack and the garlic noodles. I tried out the Mangolicious and the Ruby Red martinis. Both weren't too sweet so I liked that and I liked the $5.75 Happy hour price tag even more. Appetizers are half off.
Blue crab cakes- we were given two on a bed of lettuce. Nice presentation, pretty good sauce but the cakes themselves were definitely the highlight with lots of crab and not a lot of filler. Cool!
Seared ahi tuna- there were 5 or 6 slices. Pretty good and Jeff S liked the crust on the sear, stating the spices were like a good steak seasoning.
Hawaiian poke stack- awesome presentation though not very user friendly. I pretty much ate the top half and Jeff ate the bottom. I liked the veggies in it though. Some pieces of the tuna was stringy but overall, not bad.
Garlic noodles- I know I read there was parm in it...but the shitake mushroom made me think "Asian." Not a bad combo actually but I didn't taste the garlic.
After we were done, the server brought our check and disappeared for a while. We finally had to flag down another server to take our bill away. Even though the X Games started yesterday, the place wasn't over crowded. We got seated right away. Don't get me wrong, it was busy though but not busy enough to warrant our missing server.
I'd come back for happy hour but I'm not sure I would come for a regular meal since there's a billion other things in Downtown LA to check out. And of course, at LA Live itself, there are many, many dining options.
Yard House is tucked away in the corner. If you enter from the main gateway, you'll have to walk past every restaurant to get to it. It's easier to walk up to it from Olympic, past Trader Vic's and pop into it from the side.
3.5
The service is great. I dont really go there for the food ( which is pretty good) but we go for the beer. They have an enormous list of beers .. it's a great time during happy hour and check ou t the different stuff they offer.
street parking there is a bit of a problem but there is a parking structure right next door for $5.
I've been to a few yard houses and despite being very similar in decor I do enjoy some better than others. This yard house in downtown is in the late twenties/early thirties age range. Compared to the other yard houses, I did not like the layout as much. I like going to yard houses and mingling with other people and I feel this is more conducive to just hanging out with with some friends. Although I love doing that too, usually at a yard house I like to be more sociable.
Tip: For yard houses in general, the whole yard may look fun, but its a pain! The half yard is much more versatile.
"Happy hour" here is essentially "happy day" - it's something like Sunday-Wednesday until close, and generous hours the other days of the week. Chances are, if you go here, it's happy hour. Also, this place is huge!
Nice imported beer for 4 bucks and tasty martinis for 6, plus servers that know enough about the extensive drink menu to make you some pretty killer recommendations. Lots of tasty half-priced appetizers from all sorts of different food genres, not just typical bar food. Generous servings also.
They wouldn't let me order two beers at a time (I wanted to taste test between Miller Lite and Bud Light), but they let me order a half-priced martini even though it was technically past happy hour, so that evens out.
I don't drink much anymore, but I always get excited when I go to place that has a lot of draft beer. And the Yard House has plenty of it (even though I have seen more somewhere else). I'm basing this review off my experience going there for dinner. I haven't been there during happy hour, which looks pretty awesome.
The burgers are pretty good, and at 1/2 pound pretty sizeable. They're a little pricey, but what can you expect at a place like this? The selection of beer is pretty good and they even do some beer blends. The prices aren't too bad. The desserts are really good. The fresh warm brownie made me think I was in heaven. The service was good, though the servers seem to have too many tables to keep track of, the atmosphere was nice (although it is odd for a place famed for draft beer to look so fancy), and you can actually hold a conversation in there.
I'm definiately planning on going back during happy hour sometime, and will probably return again for dinner some day as well. It's worth checking out, but be prepared to blow some money.
I have to admit this review might somewhat a little bias. I came here to meet a great friend for happy hour and a few brewskis (Bittburger Pilsner)... Yummy! What a coincidence that the night we meet is on the same night of GAME 1 of the NBA Finals =) Which ended up being on of my favorite LAKER experiences in my life (that's until I decide to kick down and buy Laker tickets).
The place was rocking before, during, and after the game (although we left early to beat the crowds). Located next to the Staples Center and Nokia Theater, the Yard House was a perfect location to enjoy the company of old and new friends. It's a bustling area for people watching & mingling. Although the place was packed (standing room only), we decided to stay at the bar.
Our server/ bartender(s) were great always checking on us... The food came out fast and hot! I was extremely pleased with their restaurant I always share my experiences with my friends.
Our meal consisted mostly of appetizers: (happy hour specials) peperoni pizza, spinach-artichoke dip w/ chips, buffalo wings, onion rings, etc.. The bar & beer selection were abundant and always flowing.
I'll be back... Laker fan or not, you should too =)
A turkey club that I had for lunch is making me feel really sick right about now. I suspect the cooks whipped it up on spec and let it sit out until someone ordered one. It didn't taste good going down, either. Terrible.
The beer is, I'm sure, good, and they have many varieties. Appetizers are solid but not amazing.
I will not be going back.
i came here for one reason only. a yard of downtown brown. and quite honestly this is the only thing that saved the yardhouse this time. getting a bartender's attention was a chore. and i hate wearing wristbands, ugh.
i've been to various yardhouses around, i ain't knocking on the food on this one, just the service.
cheers.
One day, my friend was thinking "I should plan a very inconvenient dinner in a very inconvenient location on the most inconvenient day." So he sent out a mass email to have dinner at Yardhouse by the Staples Center during a Lakers Playoff game. And because we are saints, we endured the inconvenience of being his friend.
Arriving a half hour before game time, my roomie and I parked our car in the Nokia Live Center for $25. Yeah, such a great effing deal. Interestingly enough, there were enough hoochie mamas around the well-lit center to start an import car show. But to my roomie's dismay, the Yard House was filled only with sausages.
We were quickly seated, although the waiter took about 10 years to start taking our order. Apparently they have a good selection of beers but I don't know much about brews. I also saw about a couple dozen kegs in the back so I took it as a good sign. The ahi appetizer was delicious and refreshing, but the ahi salad was sad in comparison. The salad's tuna was overly peppered, and the slaw concoction left a bitter aftertaste. Surprise, surprise...the chicken nachos were greasy (not that it ever stops me from getting seconds). The slider cheeseburgers were plain, and likely to taste better from Jack in the Box. Or maybe it's spending less money that tastes so good?
What's with the recent hubbub with baby burgers anyway? Was there a boom in the midget population that I wasn't aware of? Whatever the reason, I'm glad they're here (sliders, I mean).
Ummm..midgets are cool too, I guess.
Great place to come after watching a game at the Staples Center. I highly recommend this place over ESPN Zone, food is much better, ( I had the Thai Chicken Pizza, which had a spicy kick to it, but not to spicy and definately not to greasy either ), wider beer selection, and the best part if you come here after a game, is the happy hour from 10pm to close. Oh yeah, almost forgot, the crab cake appetizers were pretty good to, it came with a mago papaya salsa . Definatley much better than ESPN Zone.
