conveniently located in santana row, the restaurant is nice inside, and service is great.

prices are a bit higher as it is a seafood restaurant, but to me, the food was barely memorable. i had the beer battered shrimp and chimps, and it was just okay. i love mac n cheese, and will order whenever its available, and i had to add salt and pepper to make it tastier.

my mom had the seafood pasta, and she said its better at other italian places.

not really worth the price.

I suppose if you have a craving for fish Friday then Yankee Pier's menu makes it easy to stick with seafood. With plenty of oyster, clam, mixed seafood and of course, fish and chips options, Yankee represents the northern American cuisine.

I had me the Snapper baked in wine and garlic butter sauce sprinkled with bread crumbs. The fish was nice and firm, the sauce was rich but not overly so, and it was a healthy portion. You choose 2 sides to accompany the fish - sauteed spinach and corn with heirloom tomatoes. Both were good and simple sides. Other options included mac and cheese, spaghetti squash, mashed potatoes, fries and slaw. You could actually choose your own fish. The snapper was $19, while trout was $16 and mahi mahi, salmon and others were a little more.

My friend had the Lobster Roll ($19.50), which unlike other places served the lobster in a big Texas Toast instead of a french roll. You also get to choose your side. I thought it was ok but he really liked it. I would have liked more lobster chunks but I guess the meal was under $20 so can't complain.

The waitress we had was super friendly and smiley. She made the recommendation on how to choose what cooking style to match my snapper. So a + for her knowledge.

And of course located on Santana Row, the option of al fresco dining is pretty scenic, as you watch people walk or drive by.

So 3.5 stars for me.

So, why did I come here again?

Wednesday night out on the town and this place looks like a great place to grab some seafood.

New England Clam Boil--
Large enough for 2 people who are moderately hungry.
Fresh seafood and crisp corn.
Not much variety. (Only had 2 pieces of shrimp)

But the service here is smashing.
Bright smiles and clam chowder that will warm any belly.

Maybe I should just try eating something else next time.

Wednesday night dinner wasn't packed, but there wasn't a lot of servers.

Food:
Free butter and bread
Manila Clams with Linguini- light sauce and pretty generous with the clams
New England Clam Boil- the seafood were a good amount. Some mussels were big and some were very small. The clams were an ok size and the sausages weren't bad either. The potato wasn't anything special, but the corn was sweet and crunchy.

Wine:
Knappstein Riesling- good amount of sweetness
Peter Lehmann Riesling- slightly less sweeter than the Knappstein

Service: The waitress messed up on our check by charging us an extra glass, but later fixed it. The wine took a bit too long to arrive. The food came rather fast though. Our waitress was friendly and smiled a lot.

I would come back for more seafood.

I went there a few weeks ago with a friend of mine. We wanted to go to a place we've never been before. We wanted to sit outside but we had to wait for a few minutes.
We each ordered a salad, one was the goat cheese salad and a blue cheese salad.

The goat cheese salad was hardly filling but the blue cheese one was tasty.

We also started off with a cup of clam chowder. Very good.

We also order a glass of wine each. Our meals were almost 30$ each. I wish i could go there more often because I'm sure there are more pleasing items on the menu...but we will have to see.

I've heard they have a good happy hour and oyster special on Thursdays...

Went there with a friend and ordered the following:

Clam chowder: not too bad
Tuna Tartare : it's pretty new on the menu. For me it's nothing special. Just Tuna with sesame oil
Yankee Salad: really good but the blue cheese was very over powering

I wanted to try their oysters, but the happy hours special was over. They have $1 oysters during happy hours.

This is a love hate relationship with me....

I hate that I spend a lot of money here
I love that they have at least good fish and chips. Well scratch the cold fries every time. But the fish is great
I hate that the lobster linguine sucks
I love that the tomatoes are delicious
I hate that the outdoor table service is worst than at a drive in
I love that the weather is nice
I hate that I am tipping for this service when I can just get it to go and sit in the chess area or in our townhouse
I love that the chowder had big bits of potato in it
I hate that our bill is always $70
I love that it's in walking distance via elevator, and the gym
I hate that we seem to always go back, and look at their breakfast menu

See a love hate relationship. I love to hate it, and I hate to love it. I wouldn't recommend it if I were in different parts of the row, but defintely if you live in walking distance from the elevator to the restaurant. I'd go to sino for better food

We went here this past Saturday without prior plans to do so.

( To be honest, we were under-dressed, otherwise we would have gone to a nicer place ) .......but hey, we both like seafood so we figured we'd give this place a try before the Saturday night Santana Row crowd got going.

We stopped in early enough ( 6:30ish ) to avoid the major rush of a Saturday night but they were very slow to seat us despite several open tables. The lady who greeted us moved around like her hair was on fire. Very rushed and not real communicative. No biggie.....I like to talk I guess.

We finally got seated after about a 20 minute wait but the waiter took quite some time to get to us. When he finally did, I ordered a beer, which they were out of, then another. It took me another 20 minutes to get my beer and my wife still didn't have her ice tea! ( ya, whatever.... Can a man get his damn beer??? ) Geeesshhh.....

This type of stuff usually doesn't bug me, especially when you can tell a place is packed but like I said, it sure didn't appear to be that night. I don't know if they are always understaffed or it was just our lucky night........Anyway, our waiter was plenty nice enough but was slow to take our order and not very attentive. We had to damn near tackle him on the way by our table after having walked by a half a dozen times without so much as eye contact so we could ask for a couple glasses of water. Some people are really in the wrong profession ~

As for the meal, we both had a cup of Clam Chowder as our appetizer. We both enjoyed it..... I ordered the Scallops for my main course and my wife had the beer battered cod ( fish & chips ) She said it was really good and enjoyed it ( although she drowns it in malt vinegar so it could have tasted like an old shoe and she'd never know it ;). I ordered Scallops......and they were really good too, although there were 4 scallops in total with the meal. I could sure have used more but I was plenty full with the heapings of mashed potato's and broccoli as sides so no complaints.

All in all, I can't complain about the food. It was decent and about what we expected. The 2 stars represents the service more than the food. I suppose it was good enough for us to give it another try.....maybe it was just a bad day,

i might as well have went to 'long john silvers' and saved me a couple of bucks for the same thing.

oh, and what's up with their margarita in a shooter glass that was likle $11?  UH.  can you say ripped off?

A group of 5 of us came here a couple months back for their Happy Hour at 4:30PM on a Thursday afternoon for their $1 oysters and $1 beer. You can't go wrong there, right? Wrong....

First off, it took about 10 minutes to be seated, which was fine since the outdoor seating seemed a little crowded. What went wrong was that while we were chatting it up, we didn't notice the time go by and it was a good 15-20 minutes before we even got to order. The waiter AND M.O.D. (Manager on Duty) walked by our table a good 4-5 times without even checking up on us. We didn't even have water yet! Horrible! We had to physically go up to the hostess and ask for a server! That in my book is a no-no. However, it did seem they were a little short on staff, but regardless, it's a restaurant and customer service should ALWAYS be the business' #1 priority.

On another note, the $1 oysters varied: some small and some were on the smaller side where there was barely anything on the half shell. And only $1 beer on the HH menu, but decent beer.

With the total coming out to be a little over $10pp, I would have rather spent my money and time on a different HH joint that actually deserved my time and hard earned cash.

We went here for lunch on a balmy San Jose afternoon.  This place is ok, just ok.  I had the salmon over summer squash with a side of mac n' cheese (I think the mac n' cheese was the best part).  The salmon was thin, cooked a little too long and kind of tasty, not too.  I thought because of my allergies-gone-wild that my taste buds weren't in high gear, but my bf wasn't too impressed with his trout either.  Oh well, the service was decent and nice though!

Service is good, My friend and I sat outside for lunch and I felt we received good service. The food was ok but the prices just plain ridiculous, hence the two stars.

I had been craving a lobster roll from my time in Boston and the Food Network. I swear, that network is just one big commercial for food. So I did some research and here i was with a friend ordering it.

A puny sandwich with more mayo than lobster served with overly salty potatoe chips for ...drum roll please...$17 bucks! Screw that..for 17 bucks I can buy my own lobster and the rest of his lobster family.  Sorry, so not worth it.

Lower your prices, yankee pier, and I might come back.  There's enough overpriced, underwhelming restaurants at Santana Row. Just look at Sino and Straits.

we enjoyed seafood outside of the restaurant on a warm summer afternoon.  we devoured the fresh oysters.  shared a mussel dish in a cream, tomato chipotle broth, which was quite nice.  ordered a side dish of sweet corn, tomatoes, topped with bread crumbs.

that side was delicious.  i would have been happy enough just eating that alone.

A few friends came in from out of town and my friend suggested Yankee Pier.  As a seafood lover, I wasn't going to turn down a seafood restaurant.  The weather was fair and we were seated outside.  They had a great deal going on, half off all bottles of wine so naturally we started with a bottle of wine.

The food was good.  I only ordered the cerviche so I can't write too much about their menu.  I have much to mention about their service however.  It was HORRIBLE!  After being served our first bottle of wine and our meals, our waitress never appeared again.  No one asked us if we needed any water refills, if we wanted to order more wine (which we did) or how our food was.  After an hour had gone by, I finally decided to ask the hostess for our waitress.  Apparently she had been sent home because it was a slow night and another waiter came to our service.  We ordered another bottle of wine and asked him to turn the heating lamp on because it was getting cold.  After another half hour, our 2nd bottle of wine finally came out, but nobody bothered to turn on the heating lamp.  We asked the hostess yet again for help and finally we received heat... about 45 minutes after the initial request.

We asked to speak to the manager, he came out very friendly and apologetic saying that it started off as a slow night so they sent a few of their staff home, but then business picked up, and the few waiters that were left were swamped.  He sent us some complimentary desserts for the trouble.

After ordering dessert, I went into the restaurant to use the ladies room.  B*ll SH*t!  The entire restaurant was empty!  Swamped my a$$.  There couldn't have been more than 5 tables occupied that evening.  Needless to say, I was pissed.  Our entire meal had taken nearly 3 hours from start to finish.

To top it all off, the manager had the audacity to ask us if we had intentionally only tipped 10%.  Of course it was intentional!

3 entrees, a salad, and a bottle of red wine (I don't know what, but wine bottles are 50% off for the month of July!) came out to be about $105 before tip.

I found it really, REALLY, REALLY weird that our party was seated immediately.  At 7:30pm on a Friday night.  The Friday before a holiday.  Oh, and it looks busy because people are sitting outside/on the patio, but that's because NOBODY is sitting inside.

I should've known we'd be ignored after we were seated behind this huge pillar.  In the cold.  Away from heat lamps.   It took FOREVER for the waitress to come by.  She didn't check up on us at all during dinner.  We actually had to go chase down some help.  Our drinks were never refilled.  Our waitress only reappeared when it came time to get our money haha.. actually now that I think about it, a different waitress gave us the check.

As for the food, my boyfriend said the salmon was cooked well.. which is great, except a Big Mac would've been more filling.  He seemed to like the artichoke side, but the mashed potatoes not so much.  And my personal theory is that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING tastes better when it's deep-fried.  WRONG.  Yankee Pier messed up on my popcorn shrimp and french fries (that I got charged $5 for..).  Both were soggy and wet.

This was my first dining experience at Santana Row.  I always thought the restaurants were overpriced and overrated with mediocre food.  I was right, at least that's what Yankee Pier makes me think.  I am NEVER going back to Yankee Pier, and I will seriously think twice before I allow myself to be talked into having dinner at Santana Row.

Save yourself the money and frustration and go to Red Lobster.

So I read all the reviews before going to this place last Friday. Hubby had a gift card for YP so we decided, what the hell, let's give this place a try.

We arrived at ~6pm, half the tables out in front were empty, and even more empty tables inside.  Upon meeting the host, he greeted us with a smile and asked, "Inside or out?"  We initially chose outside where he escorted us to a table, gave us our menus and left.  No sooner did he leave, we noticed the traffic along Santana Row was getting a little to comfy with our table. We decided to head back in and request a table inside.  The hostess smiled and escorted us to a table for two.  (I would have preferred one of the open booths but I fault myself for not requesting one at the time of seating.)

Our waiter (David) was a little slow in attending us initiallly so the host came back over and took our beer orders (1.00 beers for Happy Hour).  We were a little disappointed when the host told us there was only one beer that was on the Happy Hour menu.  When the two glasses arrived, they came in short glasses. Still, a bargain and the beer they served was really okay.

We also ordered a dozen oysters.  Now, as some other reviewer mentioned, these oysters are really small.  In fact, a few of them had very little oyster in them.  One of them just had scant remnants of what was, I would have to guess, a baby oyster.  Wasn't even worth dressing it up...we left it on the plate.  For 1.00/oyster, you can buy them at the local grocers and they would probably be 3-4 times bigger.

Happy Hour aside, we ordered beer battered fish, with clams and chips, along with a shrimp louis salad.  Hubby ordered a bottle of white wine.  The fish, though cruncy on the top, was soggy on the bottom, as though it had sat atop the bed of chips for some time under the heat lamps.  The salad had the dressing on the inside of the butter lettuce half, underneath the shrimp.  It could have used a bit more dressing but then again, I could have also requested more...I didn't.   The chocolate cake hubby ordered was devine!  There really is no way to go wrong with a chocolate cake when you have a chocoholic sitting directly across from you, devouring it like he was a contestant on Survivor and your team hadn't won a Team Challenge with food as the prize, for weeks!

In summary,  the service (host/waiter) was very pleasant.  The waiter was amiable and willing to stand at our table and answer our questions.  The food was passable, though nothing to write home about.  Hubby would beg to differ on the chocolate cake.  As others have stated, it's a wee bit pricey.  You could probably get the same meal at Race Street Fish and Poultry for half the cost.

All-in-all, it wasn't as bad as other reviewers' experiences so I'm thinking maybe management has read a few of the bad reviews and have started to make the necessary steps to improve?  I don't know but I went into this establishment with a jaded eye and left the place surprised.

This is consistently good quality seafood.   Probably some of the best in the south bay.   The halibut and salmon are very good.  I always get the yankee salad.   For some reason, I have always issues with the ahi tuna.  I have had it over and under cooked.  Doesn't seem that hard to sear tuna but they can't seem to get it right.

For the love of GOD does this place suck.
.. disappointed..

..waste of time..
..waste of money..
..wheres the server..
...why here?..
..are you serious?!..

The thoughts that went through my mind as I sat in the sun waiting for something to save me from this horrible lunch.

The food was really surprising (in a bad way) I've never seen frozen shrimp used so religiously at a seafood place. The shrimp salad I ordered was the laziest thing ever created. lettuce, thousand island dressing with thawed out baby shrimp on top. The shrimp tasted watered down and slimy. the lettuce was well lettuce.. and the thousand island was THOUSAND ISLAND or a generic knock off.

The clam chowder was decent but I expected WAY more from this restaurant. Our server was down right awful.. I probably saw him a total of 30 seconds within the whole meal. We even paid with a different server.

ahhh so bad..

I am keeping it 4 stars but this update was with a nice poorboy special that under $20 gave the best green salad and kettle chips which were more oil than chip but that is okay the poorboy sandwhich made up for it.

Why are they still missing a star, oh let's see they dished on Yelp. the business cards have no email addresses and ah yes, Hellish expensive menu. I know seafood is expensive but the lobster roll is a staple and making it expensive means people won't buy it. Bad Idea.

Next time I am going to be economy and just get a bowl of chowder and save the remaining $10 for Vintage wine bar.

Lets start out with the positive, love sitting outside people watching and seeing who has the best outfits on their dogs. The service was good, prompt seating and attentive manager who stopped by.

Oh, regarding the food, it was not great at all. I was surprised while eating because a friend said she loved the Fish and Chips. We ordered over $80 in food and shared. The fish and chips had no flavor, the fish tacos tasted like plastic, the deep fried shrimp (all 8 of them) had no taste...I'll stop there, if you don't get it, just think before you go to this place.

I think Yankee Pier has some customer service issues. On one hand, they get that people are allured by happy hour specials, hence the $1 oyster between 3 and 5pm, and hence us going there despite the fact that it's probably one of the least attractive/memorable looking restaurants on Santana Row. If my sister and mom haven't gone there for the oyster special before and told me about it, I would have been like, seafood restaurant where?

Despite the attempt to draw customers, Yankee Pier doesn't really make you feel welcomed. It was like your first Paris trip where you are all excited and loud, and the restaurant owner just kinda looked at you like "you stupid American tourist! Why must I serve you?" Everything was so forced. You wanted oysters? Fine, *sigh*, I guess since I put the specials sign out there, I have to bring you oysters.

What's more conflicting was the conversation I overheard behind me where a diner was apparently complaining about a dish she was served. Now, I won't take sides because they both deserve no sympathy: she sounded like a whiny entitled customer who doesn't know when to stop her incessant rant, and the waiter/manager was, well, you know, totally not in the mood to serve anyone anyway.

It should have been so simple: customer complains, manager apologizes and offers some sort of incentive for her to come back. Case closed. Even if she won't come back, you can at least cut her complaint time to a minimum before she starts to sob about her tragic life in general. Instead, it was:

"I just don't get it! Does the chef not think I'd be able to tell the difference? I know you didn't cook the food, but the chef should know...in this economy where everyone is cutting back I totally understand the need to cut down cost....but this food is just unacceptable...."

And guess what the waiter says?

"Sorry about it. I hope you will come back."

REALLY? That's your best strategy to keep customers?

PS. oysters are good. Four of us had four each. Delicious and cheap!

If you bother to eat here (at Santana Row), splurge for the fresh fish...the Halibut is great, and so was the spinach that came with it.

Don't cheap-out and eat the fish and chips, which have no flavor.
Also, skip the frozen lemonade, which isn't frozen lemonade, but pulverized ice with lemonade in it...when the little beads of ice melt, you're left with watery lemonade.

I've been here half a dozen times over the year, and the food here is the best it's ever been.

I went here with my boyfriend and my friend for dinner one night and I was shocked!  I know we're at Santana Row, but seriously.... $20 for a lobster roll that's not even equivalent to half of a sandwich at togo's and 4 potato chips.

The lobster roll wasn't even great.  Neither was their calamari.  Or their clam chowder.  I dunno, it just seemed like an over-hyped Red Lobster.  And their decor is tackier.

i came here for happy hour one time and it's not that good as it is hyped up to be. The $1 oysters are very very small. it's about the same sized as a dollar coin. the service was pretty good though. we got an oyster with lots and lots of dirt inside, and we asked the waiter if we could exchange it. she said we could and someone higher than a waitress (i think it was a cook or something) came to our table and brought us our replacement oyster. we also ordered the catfish wraps. it's a deep fried catfish piece sitting on a butter leaf lettuce and top with a GLOP of sauce that tastes like thousand island dressing. it was seriously at least a laddle full of sauce! the $1 beers are probably half od a pint. and i got a mango lemonade. it was good but was like almost $5!! i would not come here again for happy hour. maybe dinner or lunch

Yankee Pier is one of my favorite places to eat fresh oyster when I'm not in the mood to drive to SF Pier. I eat here relatively often. Each time, the service varies. The last time I went there, Saturday evening @ 8:25PM, we waited 15 minutes to be seated. After we were seated and looked over the menu, our server didn't show up until 30 minutes later. I was disappointed because we had to ask our host where our server was at. We were seated outside.. so I gave them the benefit of doubts that they maybe busy inside. I went inside to wash my hands and noticed that there were plenty of empty tables...that made me frown slightly, since we made plans to go out afterwards.

I had the ceviche, 12 Select Oysters (mix), and the Manila Clams with Linguini. The ceviche is my favorite dish to have at Yankee Pier. It's a must order for me when I'm there.  I liked citrus-marinated fresh White Sea bass, but this time, it was over-powered by the 'sweet' onions. I hand picked out the onions b/c I couldn't stand it exhausting the taste of other shellfish. The 12 select oysters were good. It tasted similar to Pier 39 oysters, yet price wise, it's a tad steep compared to Pier 39. The Manila Clams with Linguini was a disappointment. The sauce was neither thick nor creamy. It was watery. I wanted to ask for extra parmesans cheese, but could not find my server. I gave up on the linguini.

Overall, my last experience made me re-thinks my decision to drive to Pier 39 or eat at Yankee Pier. Case scenario, it's too late to drive to Pier 39, I would eat at Yankee Pier. However, if I can make the drive.. definitely would NOT go to Yankee Pier again.

*added - a good place for lunch, never dinner.

The Freshest Fish in Town!  The food is excellent using fresh quality ingredients. Seasonal side dishes with fresh veggies.  They have used organic produce in the past, not sure if that still the case.  We always get the fresh wild fish.  Wine list is good.  1/2 price bottles each July.  We've found the service to be excellent, very attentive & friendly.  Oh, I almost forgot, the desserts are awesome!  We go regularly, about 60 visits so far.

the food here is overpriced and ordinary.  i dont' mind paying more for food that razzle dazzles me either in taste, presentation, or creativity factor.  there is none of that going on here, and the service is slow.  on top of that, the seafood isn't even that fresh...which it should be, if that's all you serve!!!!

After several hours of shopping @ Valley Fair, we came here because a friend of ours said that they had $1 beer and oysters for happy hour. Well - I should have yelped this place first because then I wouldn't have wasted my time. There was NOTHING happy about the happy hour here.

We walked in.. the hostess asked us how many and asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside... okay this is all normal. They we ask if we should can have the happy hour special from a table or if we needed to go to the bar. She rolled her eyes and said we can sit anywhere... then took her sweet time gathering the menus and sat us at a table near the window.

Five minutes pass - finally someone comes to give us bread and water.

Another five minutes pass and then someone notices we're not looking @ our menus anymore and that we're looking @ our phones. She tells us that someone will be right with us. Mind you, there is not that many people in the restaurant... I look up to see that a couple who had just sat down at the bar decided to leave.

Finally, we decide to get up and go.. by the time we would be served, happy hour would have probably been over.

Obviously since we left, this review is PURELY for the service... but if you can't treat your customers right once they come in, then they'll never try the food.

Not a place I'll be coming back to.

Three hungry asian girls after three hours of shopping at valley fair and the row = we need food now.  We decided to give yankee pier a try since maggiano's had a 2 hour wait, and because we've all had pretty good experiences here before.  We got there and waited in line to put our name down on the list and I heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us that it is a 25-30 minute wait.... unless they wanted to sit outside.  The couple opted not to but we were ready to snuggle next to the heat lamps, so long as we got some nourishment.

I step up to the hostess and smile.  "Table for 3, please," I say politely, "and we don't mind sitting outside."

She scurries around to gather up some menus and without looking up says "Let me get one party seated and I will be right back."  That sounds fair, no problem.

She comes back and NEVER LOOKS AT US AGAIN.  No acknowledgement that we were waiting for a table.  No offer to put our name on the list.  The manager walked by the three of us and asked if we had been greeted yet.  At this point we'd been waiting for about 15 minutes without any service so we said no.  He told us that there was a wait even for outside seating and that we had to put our name down on the list.  WTF the hostess didn't tell us that.

Needless to say we left and took our business elsewhere.  And by the way, as we were leaving we noticed the entire outside area EMPTY with plenty of seats open.  TIME TO GET A MORE COMPETENT HOSTESS, YANKEE PIER, don't want you to lose MORE business because of your idiotic staff!

i am NEVER going back.

It's decent, really.
The wine and beer selection was definitely better than I expected.
First time I came here I had the fish and chips which were... decent.
I specifically came back here to try their fish carpaccio.
I say fish carpaccio because the week before it was an ahi tuna, and the time I came back it was a striped bass.
Fish was fresh and well seasoned, and the citrus salad it came with was a great match.
The only thing that killed it were a few scales left on the fish which were pretty unpleasant to eat.
I told the server and he was cordial about it.
I don't know... the food is okay I guess but I just wouldn't come back.
Respectable... just wasn't impressed.

Dude if I can give this place NEGATIVE stars I hella would.

Me and a few of my friends came here to have a go at their $1 beer and oysters from 3PM-5PM, and let me just say that those hours were nowhere near 'happy.' The oysters were insultingly tiny, it literally made me think to myself, 'Wait, these are the $1 oysters?' We did try one other thing which was the crab and shrimp dip, that was OKAY.. I'd rather go to Safeway and make my own, and for a lot cheaper too.

The service is highly unprofessional, and I only say this because my friend actually got threatened to get beat up [by a server!!] because he said he liked Mel Gibson's movies. Its initially laughable but when you realize that the guy was serious its kind of ridiculous. Seriously? Its a shame that Mel Gibson  'hates jews' but you've no right to impose your personal views into a conversation that you weren't even invited to participate in.. douchebag. That threat sure takes the cake, and the whole fucking bakery.

Don't waste your time and money. -__-

If I had to describe this place in one word it would have to be "underwhelming."

I met my friend in front of the restaurant and we waited quite a while before a busboy acknowledged us and asked if we'd like to be seated.  The wait was surprising because the place was almost empty besides 3 other tables (around 7:30p-ish).  A few minutes later, out popped the most unfriendliest/bored waitress imaginable.  No smile, no "how are you doing?" --- nothing.  It felt like I was in one of those cliche movie scenes set at a truck stop diner with the disinterested waitress... except I'm thinking that I might have gotten better service at a truck stop.  Not surprisingly, it was the busboy who was the only person who said goodbye to us as we left.

I ordered the Beer-battered fish and chips ($11.95 for 2 pieces), and they weren't inedible, but they were pretty bad.  The cod pieces were pretty small, flavorless, and soggy.  The chips were pretty soggy as well.  My meal came with a tiny side of coleslaw that was more runny than anything else, and the tartar sauce was completely bland.

Now I understand why this place is empty everytime I pass by it.

Yay! i'm a fan.

But only for the $1 oyster/ $1 beer special. I don't think you can get any better oysters than that in San Jose. Please recommend if you do.

I felt so cheap last time, so I ordered the clam and calamari as appetizer as well. They were OK, not all the special. Save the for money for more oysters!

I came to Yankee Pier for Mother's Day Brunch today.  We have come here for brunch for Mother's/Father's Day for a few years now.  The staff almost neglected to give us the special Mother's day brunch menu, until we asked about it.  I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict (ham opposed to the $8 more lobster...which I'm allergic to anyways).  I requested my hollandaise sauce on the side, which they forgot, so I waited a few minutes longer for my food to come back.  I've never had an eggs benedict before.  I'm not sure this would have been the best "first" eggs benedict...but i thought it was actually pretty tasty.  I think the hollandaise sauce makes the dish though.

I was a little disappointed by the portion sizes.  Sure, my meal was satisfying enough, but everyone at the table managed to clean off their plate (which doesn't usually happen).

I came here because I was craving oysters on the half shell. It was incredibly fresh and our waitress was very helpful. I love it when they actually tell you about the items of the menu and give good suggestions.

I satisfied my craving with the Fanny Bay Oysters and had a lunch sized portion of the grilled Pollock fish on top of a bed of sauteed mushrooms with a side of Mac and Cheese.

Great service, very clean, and food is fresh!

This is just one of the many overpriced restaurants located on Santana Row.  Came here for dinner sometime last year and the place was very crowded. Ended up trying their appetizer biscuit, and two fish entrees served with mashed potatoes and some vegetables. From what I remember, the appetizer wasn't very good and both fish entrees were quite dry. My dining partner wasn't very satisfied, and the bill ended up being quite expensive (+$60). Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes, but unfortunately I don't plan on coming back. Overall, the service was fair and the food was edible but nothing special.

We came back.....perhaps for the last time for a long time.....it's not that the food is inedible, honestly it is always tasty - I just take point with the slow lunch service and over priced soup.

Im pretty sure they were short staffed today but it was not as if it was a huge lunch rush...but when i walked in I told the other half I wanted to sit at the bar - always better service at the bar - he said no...mistake. While I was mowing down a bag of oyster crackers we were advised by the waiter he would be right with us.....cool but where was bread and water boy? No where to be found until long after our order was placed.

We got out peel n'eat shrimp - which yes I am glad are back on the menu and they were as delicious as always. Bowl of chowdah each with drop biscuits, good...not the best ever but good....but not 10.95 a bowl good - seriously the only soup that should be 10.95 a bowl is lobster bisque and then what are you doing chugging a bowl of lobster and cream?

So back to three stars we go again - ugh - the pier is making me want to walk right off the end....
