Love Yangs, I order  from them at least twice a week. Never have had a problem and delivery is always really fast.  The Singapore noodles and the egg roles are amazing! I usually order an appetizer and a large entree and I have enough for lunch the next day.

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life... and I've had some bad Chinese food.

The sweet and sour sauce is that jelly pink color and the chicken was fried in to ball like substances.  The beef and broccoli had a similar dark brown jelly goo....  basically it was just made with bad ingredients and cheap products.  Not authentic at all... don't expect much from this place.

First time here tonight. It's a small restaurant with a take-out desk at the door then dine-in space with about 10 tables to the right. Typical small, crowded Chinese restaurant. But the food is really good. I had the veggie egg rolls (awesome), pot stickers (even more awesome), and the Singapore noodles (equally as awesome). Food was fast, hot, and fresh. It's just a door or two east of the redline stop on Roosevelt, super easy to get to. But the area is raging with bums and random weirdos that apparently have nothing better to do than watch you walk into restaurants.... Kind of a shady block. But heavy police presence here too. Definitely a go-back... Frequently.

I want to love you, Yang's, I really do because I love Asian food - even the fake Chinese food you do so well - and you're so conveniently located equi-distance from my house and Chinatown. Alas, you raised your prices and the service has all the charm of a jaded undertaker.

I had the squid and broccoli lunch special for $7.50. The squid itself was perfectly cooked -  all five slivers of it and about as many florets, drowning in the cornstarch and food coloring sauce. Husband had a chicken dish which looked decent (so if you must, stick to the chicken).

And to those nice enough kids at the front serving people: please crack a smile and say please or thank you once in awhile.

Sometimes you crave Americanized, greasy Chinese food. Yang is a great place for that. If you want something more authentic, then take the Red Line one more stop to Chinatown. The prices are reasonable, and the bubble tea is good.

I often call my order in while I'm on the bus to/from work, as it's on my route. My order is always ready in 5-10 minutes, so I can be on my way. They do have a small seating area if you want to stay and eat.

Two negatives: the staff, particularly this one younger, good-looking guy, really hate their jobs. I have never seen any of them smile. Also, I hate when I eat shrimp, and they haven't been de-veined because you can feel the crunchiness of the dirt and poop and whatever else is in there. Gross.

I don't think I've ever written a negative Yelp review- I love to spread my love for great Chicago restaurants... I thought I would try Yang for myself despite of all of the wretched reviews. This was a horrible mistake!!!

Cheap greasy Chinese? Sounds good to me. No, there is a seriously fine line between cheap eats and garbage. We could not eat more than one bite without a knowing if we continued we would be violently ill.

Walk in from the EL and you are in an even more filthy place. How bad can fried rice from a Chinese take out place be? Bad enough to make you throw up in your mouth from the texture and flavor. Crab Rangoon was creepy fish flavored cream cheese and the Chicken is just as scary as the other reviews describe. You know the sick taste of your mouth when you're really sick? That's how Yang's tastes in a Chinese way.

I didn't know it was possible to offend me in such a way with cuisine. Run!

Got Yang's after a concert on the way home a couple weeks ago.  It served it's purpose, but there is certainly better takeout Chinese available.  Great location right off the el, but this is likely also the reason it is overpriced.

It doesn't have the freshest ingredients, and it is definitely Americanized (which has its own merits, admittedly).

If you want something quick and easy, go for it.  If you have a little extra time to spare, try elsewhere or get delivery for a similar price.

Yang would've gotten a three at best, were it not in my apartment building. You can't beat taking the elevator down in pajamas to grab food 10 minutes after you order it.

That being said, this definitely isn't the greatest Chinese ever, but not bad for the price. You just have to know what to order. Orange Chicken here has onions and peppers and is nasty. The sesame chicken has neon pink sauce that sketches me out. But what everyplace else considers orange chicken, Yang calls General Tso's.  And their General Tso's chicken is very good. Especially when a small lasts you 2 meals and is $5.50

This place is the ick! Being Chinese, I'm ashamed to say, sometimes, I crave "bad Chinese food." Yang is really close to me, so bad Chinese food is just around the corner....

Yang, being one of the only Chinese spots btw my place and Chinatown, I decided to give it a try. I ordered a number of things, maybe 4-5(What?? I need variety), and I'd have to say mostly it was a flop. The Singapore noodle dish was not bad, but on the bland side. The grossest thing was, halfway through my meal, some of the dishes started congealing. It was like Jello jigglers, but the salty brown soy sauce version...ewww! This one curry dish was as if it was dyed yellow, but had absolutely no actual curry flavor.

The solution: I hate wasting food. I'm a true believer of "fixing" it, before dumping it. So I strained the food and washed off all the brown Jello jiggler evidence and recooked it. oOOh, not bad! So yeah, unless you want to strain everything and then recook it, I would say, "Do not go to Yang! Go directly to Chinatown!"

After this experience, I've decided to revise my craving of "bad" Chinese food to "non-authentic" Chinese food. Yeah, that's definitely what I mean.

Every now and then - on a Weekend - at work, I'll order from Yangs, because they, quite frankly, make the BEST Crab Rangoons I've had in a long time!  sure they were a bit greasy, but nothing some time on a paper towel wouldn't cure -  and CRISP? oooOOooo yes!

I also like their LoMein  because it's made with little noodles - not the thick squarish noodles I get at other asian shops. You get a TON of it, it's easily two meals worth!

I've never eaten at their restaurant - but the delivery is good.

I dont understand the bad reviews...  you get what you pay for!!   This is a nice little chinese 'hole in the wall' in a very busy location.

I ordered from there three times, initially reluctantly, and each time the food was great!  The hot and sour soup is good, and I also had the schewan beef once and chicken another time.  Potstickers are excellent.  This place gets 5 stars because it accomplishes its mission. Simple, cheap, excellent chinese food.

The goodness that is Yang can be summarized in two words: egg rolls. If you crave that infamous concoction of crispy shell coupled with tangy cabbage-y filling, then Yang will satisfy. Their egg rolls have just the right amount of grease, crunch and filling, plus some sort of secret ingredient that adds a nice nutty flavor to the roll. (Husband and I think it might be peanut butter.)

Beyond the delicious egg rolls, everything else is your average take-out Chinese. We've tried nearly everything on the menu and it's all okay - it will serve just fine when you need that quick Chinese fix. But don't expect anything unusual or unusually good.

Im not sure what happened to this place because it went downhill FAST.

When I first moved here, I ordered Yangs and was really happy. I was stressed about moving to a new city and worried there would not be a good Chinese place close to me. Yes, I know, I need to get a life, but good Chinese is important to me.

The first few times I ordered it, It was good, cheap and had quick delivery. Their eggrolls were like crack. The next 4 times, it kept geting progressively worse with long delivery times and food quality. Once, I had a huge blowout with the order taker/delivery driver. I'll spare you the details. The is the kind of left overs you just throw away. The  food is not worth wasting calories on.

The very last time I went there, I ordered an eggroll and WonTon soup. Both were unedible. The eggroll tasted rancid.  The soup was BAD.

I have been Yangs free for about 6 weeks now and I am feeling a lot better because of it.

Went here last night and was very happy with it (except the part about having to scream to keep from getting the bathroom door opened on me despite it being locked!)

The quality of food was very good - I wish I had tried the egg rolls since for me, that's one of the main things important to me in a good Chinese restaurant.  But we had the pot-stickers, and starting from there, wow's that a lot of food!  We split an order of mooshoo chicken and had vegetable friend rice, and was more than happy with the dishes.  As two people, we barely could make a dent in the food.  I wish we could have taken it to go, but since we were going somewhere right after that, we didn't want to have leftovers in our purses.

If I'm ever in the area, I would most definitely go back.  I was very happy.  For the quantity of food, the prices were definitely reasonable.

Terrible. Take the Red Line one stop further south to Chinatown. Pass it by. This place is bad.

I passed it often going to the El and wanted to try it. What a disappointment. I read the newspaper clipping taped to the door touting their pork. Ordered that & beef chow fun: both were awful. The pork tasted bland despite the red dye color added to look like flavor. The beef in the chow fun tasted gamey. That's the closest thing I can think of to describe the taste. I ate two bites and tossed it. I tried eating more of the pork but it was not going down well. Quit shortly after.

With so many good places in Chinatown, next time I will surely make the extra effort. You can even get delivery from Chinatown. Don't waste your taste buds here!!!

This was a wretched experience.  The egg-foo-young was a gross wet mess and the fried rice and noodles were dried out.  Most of our order went into the trash and we all agreed that as long as we never ordered Yang's again then there was no point in blaming the person who suggested that we order it in the first place.

    It was me.

The thing I love the most about this place is it doesn't try to be something that it isn't. It's basically one step above fast food, and the prices reflect that. The pork-fried rice is pretty good, and the green-bean and pork is also quite good. I tried a couple other dishes, but none stood out.

Basically, if you go into Yang's looking for decent and cheap food, you'll come out happy. For what it is, it's not bad at all.

I really wanted to like this place...especially since it's only a couple blocks away from where I live.  I was so excited thinking about having somewhere so close when I craved Chinese but that excitement quickly was lost.  I love food A LOT...I even get excited about airplane food (and now I'm so sad that they only give you snacks instead of microwaved deliciousness), which it seems everyone detests.  However, we ordered a few dishes and I have to say...the steamed rice was the best out of everything.

And I was still hungry because I couldn't force myself to eat anymore.  Wow, how often does that happen with me?

Sometimes the potstickers aren't too bad but how hard is it to screw up something that's frozen that you have to nuke?

Actually, they can.  Because the couple times I tried them, they were only lukewarm right out of the carton.

Is the food here really that bad? Now, coming from someone who has a tendency to give restaurants a second chance, my answer would have to be a definite YES.

The food here is not Chinese, no way Jose, McDonald's Chicken McNuggets smothered in gelatinous sludge thats supposed to be sweet and sour sauce is NOT what I call Chinese. Avoid this place and walk over to Tamarind instead if you want real Asian cuisine.

I have been to Yang's a few times and for what it is Yang's is a wonderful place.

Their location at the Roosevelt station of the el is great - under the tracks.
I have the impression their business is mostly takeout but there is a small dining room with table service.  The fifties style furniture and the up scale china plates in the dining room are perfect.  The place does have rough edges but they are part of the experience.

The General Tso's chicken is to die for.  I drool thinking about going back there.

Plus: Amazing Chicken Wings, Great General Tsao Chicken, Quick Delivery, Price and Longevity

Minus: Everything else on the menu (especially the rice), charge for extra sauce packets and fortune cookies (I mean really... do you need the 10 cents?), cold staff, the regulars (questionable is putting it nicely), the smell and cleanliness - I mean you get what you pay for.

My recommendation: Go to Chinatown - its only a mile away and one extra stop on the Red Line

This is a hangout for neighboring Columbia College professors and students grabbing a cheap meal.   The no-frills, basic lunch specials come with fried rice and a small salad of sprouts for under $6. Try the orange chicken, or anything with string beans.  Service is courteous and efficient.

The real drawback of Yang's is the owner/manager, who has zero  interpersonal skills.  She can often be heard screaming at her staff or yelling into the telephone at delivery customers.  I'd suggest getting your lunch to go.

    Wow, no love for Yang!

I walked in there STARVING today because it was near my hotel and it was either eat there or scavenge at the BP station across the street.  And I wasn't quite gas station hungry.  However, I think I enjoyed the food much more after 9 hours of traveling and only my itsy bitsy airplane bag of pretzels.

I agree that the hot and sour is crap.  It's the kind that's bright orange and has no flavor and no thickness to it.  Yucks.  But this city is windy, that's no joke. So my cold ass ate most of the spicy vinegar water with tofu chunks and flavorless egg.

If I could give the potstickers a rating I would give them 5 stars -- those mofos were yummy!  Big and fat and filled with yummy meat, and the ginger sauce was reeeaally good.

I don't know why I got the orange chicken, I'm not into breaded crap.  Starvation messes my head up.  It definitely looked like you get more food eating there -- my half full huge, styrofoam, environment-killing carryout container looked comical.  The food was blech, though I did like the salad, consiting of sprouts, julliened carrots and peapods, and a little sesame.  But it doesn't matter because I didn't eat it anyway.  Big eyes and little tummy.  Plus eating yucky food is so not worth it.

I bet those crab rangoons are good -- this woman was fursiously making them when I picked up my glorious grease fest.  Ohh, the guilt.

So why 4 stars?  The potstickers are damn good.  Just don't order anything else.

I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone, unless your taste buds are dead and you like texture, not flavor. I had the broccoli and beef lunch special, which was basically chewy meat, overcooked broccoli and a pile of old looking sprout salad. Take those ingredients, add some tasteless brown gravy, et voila - you have a truly unsatisfying meal.

Someone before mentioned the service - how bad it is. Yes, the waiter was sullen and rude, even though I was one of only four people there at lunchtime.

Very good and very big portions. The BBQ pork was very good and gave a lot for the cheap price. I had a bowl Egg Drop Soup and the bowl was HUGE. I was scared that the food would not be good and small portions, but that was not the case. The restaurant is located right by the Roosevelt Green Line for easy access.

The wait staff was very good and brought your food quickly. I would prefer for them to have a better selection of tea, but the tea that they had was good.

If you want something cheap and a skip from downtown State St. Check out Yangs.

I agree with other yelpers' on here.  When this place 1st opened it was OKAY.  Uh, now I can't even bring myself to get soup there.

A couple of months ago I was super hungry so I stopped there when I got off the train and ordred a small won ton and an egg roll.

I paid in cash and the owner told be 5 mins.  Well, this is no joke after 15 mins of waiting, I went up and asked if my order was ready.  Once again the owner told me 5 mins.  After another 5mins I asked again, this time not to nicely.  The owner said flat out "too bad im busy other people spend more money then you".

Another waiting customer heard this and said it was the last time she'd ever go there.  I was in shock - I took my food and told her I'd never be back - and since they I haven't.

DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR GO TO THAI SPOON ON WABASH MUCH BETTER.

Maybe if it was Thanksgiving and I was in some The Christmas Story kind of scenario with all of my family staring at my with hungry eyes and a completely empty refrigerator and the only place to get food in the whole city was this place MAYBE i would get a delivery from here.
    That is a big MAYBE.
I would probably walk to some far far away land like Schaumburg and brave the elements first.
How do you screw up an egg roll?  Just curious because that had to take some special skill.  The reason we ordered from here was the fact they had sesame shrimp on the menu which is hard to find.  the shrimp were inedible and believe you me- you don't want to tempt your fate with eating bad shrimp.  Plus- it was sweet and sour.
Needless to say I had pizza for dinner Saturday night as the shrimp went down the trash shute with something posing as an egg roll.

This place has gone seriously downhill in the year that I've been coming here.  Tonight's dinner confirms that I need to find a new chinese restaurant nearby (or that delivers to me).

The beef in the beef and broccoli was undercooked (gross!!!) and the sauce was quite slimy.  The sauce for the general tsos chicken was completely bland and the chicken wasn't crispy (hey, if I'm going to eat fried chicken, let's actually fry it...).  A very underwhelming greasy meal that really wasn't worth the calories.

I don't think I'd ever eat-in Yang's. The crowd can be a little iffy some time (especially and night) and frankly I'd rather just eat the greasy food at home. I love Chinese food but with Chinatown not too far away I'd rather go there for authentic (and quality) food. Yang's is a decent alternative because its cheap and they deliver. Every once in a while I'll have a hankering for cheap Chinese food and I'll sidle up to this Roosevelt Road staple.

Egg rolls are decent, noodle dishes are good especially the Singapore noodles with baby shrimp and pork. The entrees like Kung Bo and Sichuan dishes though are another story...they are DRENCHED in sauce. This is another reason I usually order it all to go -- I drain the sauce!

    Good? It's ok. Cheap? Yes.

Takeout - Cheap, fast, yummy, and good portions for the price. It's rather small but it's a take out/delivery kinda place anyways.

Sit Down - small dining area, staff was friendly and helpful. There is a bit of a price markup to sit down though.

There are two redeeming qualities about this place, hence the two stars.  One is that it is quick and dirty.  You can place the order, get ready to go, walk over and your food is almost always ready.  I say dirty because if you ever looked through the swivel door into the back, it is pretty dang gross.  And don't even think about walking past the back door between the building and the Roosevelt stop.

The second redeeming quality is the dumpling appetizer.  We always get these, because no matter how bad the other dishes are...these dumplings are great.  You start off well, but you end badly.  I've only had a few decent entrees.  Most of the time, we end up throwing the meals away and wishing for more dumplings.

I order from here often because of the proximity and the dumplings.  I always try different dishes, but they all seem to be so-so to gross.
Example#1 - Shrimp with Lobster sauce.  The jello-like substance in the sauce is absolutely gross.
Example#2 - Order the same dish three different weeks and it tastes different and looks different each time!
Example#3 - My friends came over and ordered the Cashew Chicken.  They try this dish all over Chinatown and my friend's family used to run a Chinese restaurant.  They weren't even sure that you could call the dish Cashew Chicken.  I think they tried to take it home and wash off the sauce and redo it.  It was so bad they just threw it out.

Okay so I bagged on this place, but I keep on going there.  I guess I'm insane.  But you get freebies!!!  Spend:
    $10 - two sodas
$20 - free crab rangoons (greasy but good)
    $30 - sweet & sour chicken

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would.
I've tried to eat here a few times (I always give places a second chance).
NOT a good idea in this case. The older woman at the counter was one of the rudest people I've ever seen. Not only to the customers but to her staff! She would yell and scream at them in front of customers...Which made me feel totally uncomfortable!
I don't know how this place stays in business. Maybe because of it's location next to the Red Line? That is the only reason I can think of!
The people that are giving this place a good review..have you ever eaten "good" Chinese food? Apparently not!
The food was TERRIBLE!!! I literally threw it away...ugh...I can't believe I tried this place twice..what a mistake! I cringe every time I walk by this place.
I don't see how they could do anything to get this to be a decent restaurant!

Yikes! There's a pretty wide range of reviews of this little place, from "I love it" to "I hate it". Not sure what all the hubub is about, but my experience with this place was perfectly fine.

Granted, I was in probably 4 years ago and a lot can change in that time period. I stopped in here with my date after we visited the Field Museum and we had a perfectly nice, tasty, inexpensive meal. It was not incredible, nor was it terrible. It was tasty and satisfying, however. The service was polite and quick as well.

I'd like to stop by again sometime and see if they've really gone so far downhill? Maybe they changed chefs recently or something?

Horrible experience. They messed up on our order and didn't bring our "free 2 cokes"  Asked the delivery guy about it then called, they said they'd bring it right over.  40 minutes later... nothing.  Called again to find out what was going on.  Found out they had no intention of bring it.  They lied so I can sign the credit card slip.  I live very close to this joint... they could have either offered me a gift certificate or brought over 2 cans of coke.  Come on, how much can that really cost?  Now you've lost a repeat customer and many more potential customers.

I hate businesses that do not understand the importance of repeat business.  Good luck, I'm taking my business elsewhere.

    Was this review …?

Trust me if I could give this place no stars it would get that -

You take your family out for a dinner to enjoy and your family must sit there while the Owner yells at the top of his voice at the entire wait staff.

The food was okay - but the Owner needs to learn how to actually treat people. Tried to call and complain and he hung up the phone on me... Not the first time as i watched him hang up on another person calling in about the food not being right.

    DO NOT GO THERE

I felt a bit iffy about this place (thanks to fellow yelpers), but it is so close to the Roosevelt stop, i decided to try it out.   Anyhow, the reviews were not lying.   I tried the chicken with assorted vegetables, it was only so-so.   One major problem i had was the amount that was given.  For nearly $9 dollars, i would think that  I would get more than an extra small serving.     Not only that, but the sauce was very gooey and gelatin like.   I was really reluctant to eat it...

I can only say two good things about this place:   Prime location and unpretentious.    It doesn't set out to be more than what it is, such as Tamarind.
