I have been to at least six productions at the Rep, and I have been disappointed only once.
Most of the times the plays were really good. The level of the productions is extremely high, as these plays tend to move to New York before or after showing in New Haven.
Being a student, it was an incredible bargain to pay $10 per play.

This is such a great deal if you are a student... and still a great deal if you are a working professional... especially with their Flex Passes, which allows you to go to the theatre on any night of the week without being locked in to one set of seats on one certain night (though, that is still possible if you want to book that way).

The Artistic Director of the Yale Rep is also the Dean of the School of Drama, James Bundy, and the theatrical offerings being shown are always thoughtful in a message that they are trying to convey... though that message may not always be clear.

I would say that the Rep is sometimes a bit hit or miss in how much you will enjoy the show as a whole, but I think that it would be fair to say that acting is always good, and the design elements (costume, lighting and especially set) are just outstanding and memorable (in some cases, more than the show itself).

I've seen several shows at the Rep thanks to the $10 student tickets that you have to buy in packs but can easily pawn off on friends.  The tickets really are a steal, and I've enjoyed every show (I think that's Tartuffe, A Woman of No Importance, and Happy Now?).  Seats are comfortable, and the shows start and end on time, which is...I don't know why I'm impressed by this, but I am.  All in all a great way to spend an evening.  Just a note, though - if you want coffee at intermission, run.  You can pee later while everyone else in the building is waiting in line for coffee.

Depends on the performance. If you get one of their great deals on tickets, though, you can risk a dud or two and see a lot of really good theater. Or you can carefully read the local reviews - the shows all run for a good long while - but be sure to read between the lines. Not everyone wants to be entirely honest in a small town!!
