I'm giving them 5 stars based on one employee but might come back and give them 1 star for my interaction, or non interaction, with all the other employees.

The layout is great in Yale. Plenty to see and displayed perfectly enough to confuse one with an amazing array of one better than the next pieces and so on and so on. This is the what I needed to see, choices.

First employee encounter going up the stairs and entering the door, a "receptionist". My wife and I entered, the receptionists head dropped immediately down with zero eye contact. God I hate no eye contact! We moved on through down the left wall passing employee after employee all on the phone or doing something work related. They do have lot's of staff. We moved further to the back where the under counter refrigerators were and found everything without any help from the unhelpful non eye contacting Yale sales force.

3 people that were Yale employees were talking around the area where we wanted to look, we opened doors, looked at them, no eye contact. We opened more doors, again, nothing. 3 Yale people making plans for some vacation or something so it seemed. I didn't pay attention to them the same they didn't give a shit about me. How sad. I must have looked like a bum off the street panhandling for some information as they dispersed without any assistance.

We walked toward the front, people moving about and not a friggin person said one thing to me or gave me eye contact. NOT ONE! We walked up to the "receptionist" who still didn't move from her post of ignoring us... but our invisible shields were still in tact as we quietly tip toe'd past her alertness to guard against intruders. Thank goodness our invisible shields blocked her from seeing us!

I got in the car, called Yale and asked for a live warm body.. I got this woman, sounded like a young girl, named Sonja who was eager to take my sarcastic and bitter tone which somewhat disarmed me. I told her my story (I am not 100 percent sure she wasn't one of the 3 making vacation plans as my wife and I shopped for under the counter refrigerators.) She apologized for the waste of a receptionist (my words, not hers) at the front door and said everything right to me. I asked if I should set up an appointment and she said we didn't have to but if we wanted to come right back she'd be more than happy to help.
Told her I couldn't but she quickly told me her hours she worked and she'd be happy to either set up something the next time we're in Boston but wanted to assure us we didn't need an appointment and we could come in anytime. She sent me an email follow up with some very pertinent information about what we were looking for with links and gave us product reviews. She wanted us to have the information for me to make an informed decision. That's the best anyone can do.. I loved it. She left me her contact information and an associate who could help me if she wasn't available.

Sonya totally FOR NOW redeemed Yale. I will be back in the Boston area in a week or two and can't wait to stop in and look deeper into their selection of products they have.

Currently, I would give Yale Appliance and Lighting ZERO stars if I could.  I'm incredibly frustrated with Yale.

I purchased a washing machine from Yale about 3.5 years ago.  Since then, my washing machine has been serviced 4 times!  The latest repair was 2 days ago.  I tried to use my "repaired" washing machine today and it didn't work.

I've been extremely patient.  4 repairs in 3.5 years for a brand new washing machine.  I believe that enough is enough.  Now they're just taking advantage of my patience.

Clearly, they have sold me a lemon.  I hope that Yale will do the right thing and replace my washing machine with a new one.  If not, it will be very clear to me what a DISHONEST business Yale Appliance is.  If this situation isn't fixed, I will NEVER buy anything from Yale again.

We came to Yale to look at light fixtures and I was very impressed by the store's interior layout as well as the high level of customer service.  The store had a very good selection of lighting as well as a very nice appliance and kitchen section, so we will have to come back for re-doing the rest of the house.  As for the thing we came for, we found the prices on their light fixtures to be very pricey, but I think that was because they were name brand.  The light we liked was $880 at Yale and we went to Lowes and found almost the same style for $180---I'm sure the quality at Yale was better we were just looking for something simpler.  Will definitely be back the next time we are in the market for something that Yale carries.

Oh and those fresh baked cookies at the entrance, amazing!!

    Yale is awesome.

My mother has been renovating her condo and was told to come here for any appliance and lighting needs. We obliged, thinking we'd just end up going to home depot once we were actually ready to buy. Boy, were we wrong. Yale has by far the best service that I have every come across. Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, patient - it makes shopping here a fun experience, not a pain. They even matched all the prices we had received from the home depot!

We ended up buying all of our appliances, as well as all of our lighting here. Could not ask for a better experience.

Yale, once again is 100% Awesome. Continually they  take care of me like a truly well respected customer and not just another number. Exceptional knowledge on their products made it so easy to purchase.

Yesterday I was in the store and was given so many different options. Steve (the owner) was so professional while informing why I wanted my particular product and the reason I would benefit. Thank You Steve. You advise was awesome.

Thanks Again for such a pleasant experience. I will definitely be back and will be telling all of my friends and colleagues about YALE!!!

YALE  -  YALE  THE  GANGS  ALL  HERE ! !

3 DELIVERY GUYS SHOW UP 1/2 HOUR EARLY !!!

    ---  (  ON DECEMBER 31st  )  ---

Yale's office - Having called to tell me they were running early and ask if it was okay to come by earlier then expected.

YOU BET, we were extremely grateful for both the advance call and their coming by early on New Years Eve.

Our washing machine died on Tuesday. I called Yale on Wednesday.  Spoke to Rob.  He immediately nailed down the very best model for our needs.  (100 BUCKS CHEAPER THEN SEARS)

Basically there was only one that would fit.  It was a Kenmore that we'd bought from Sears 10 years ago.  Rob informed me that the Kenmore was made by Frigidaire, he immediately checked his warehouse, confirmed that he had one in stock.  An exact match to ours which was history.

I called Yale because I refused, refuse and never again care to experience SEARS HELL ever, ever again.  Sears knows every possible way in the book to screw you.  From delivery to repairs to parts to incorrect / over-billing SEARS HELL is just that.  The entire organization is D.O.A.  Asleep at the wheel and they don't give a crap.

THESE 3 BRAWNY YALE GUYS........  Immediately upon arrival one Yale guy inspected the route through my home with me as the other 2 unloaded the washer on the street.  Removed all of the packaging and set-up everything possible outside my home.

#1 guy Steve guided the 2 other Yale guys up my 120 years preserved oak stairs so as not to make a single scratch or mark.  Every turn, every angle, every lift, every aspect of the delivery was supervised and not a single rub or bump or scratch of nick occurred.   During the entry the washer never for a single moment touched my property.  Never touched the floors, walls, stairs, rugs.  Didn't touch the ground until it reached its final installation destination.

I ASK YOU........  THINK FOR A MOMENT.......  3 expert, fun, helpful brawny guys to deliver one single washer that weighted less then 50 lbs.

If that ain't the pinnacle of customer service.......  THEN I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS.

It sure ain't the way SEARS did it, does it, or knows how to do it.

We've now got about 60% of our properties outfitted with Yale appliances and as time marches on we will continue to rely on Yale Appliances.

I HAVE GOT TO ADD that of the 5 of my clients whom I have referred to Yale over the years  - -  ALL 5 NOW SWEAR BY YALE APPLIANCE.

IN A WORLD WHERE MOST BUSINESSES succeed at failure YALE APPLIANCE IS A WELCOME BREATH OF FRESH AIR.

YALE - YALE  --- Hail to Yale !

Oh yes..........  5 stars awarded with supreme pleasure.

Oh yes by the way............  Tip the guys.  They will have earned it.

After writing a quick tip that Yale was more expensive than the place I decided to purchase my appliances, I received an e-mail from the CEO, Steve.  Steve inquired which products I found to be more expensive and asked me if I knew of the rebates Yale had.

I was very impressed with the fact that someone from Yale actually cared enough to reach out to someone that hadn't even purchased from them, with a kind inquiry & additional information.

There wasn't any hard-sell language or an attempt to sway me through badgering.  Just someone that cared about their business & wanted to know how to improve it.

I will certainly go to them for my next appliance purchase & give them a chance!

Is appliance shopping considered fun & exciting?
A majority would answer in the negative. It is mostly out of necessity.
Retail is a challenge when you are purchasing something & the salesperson may not be very informative or not really care.
Not the experience you will get a Yale.
They are locally family owned and operated.
The experience is above and beyond what you will have at a box store. The staff is friendly, informative & don't treat their work as a 'job'. They have career sales people.
The selection is vast. If you need to touch and feel something, they have the most live kitchens in New England.
For Bostonians, appliance shopping may not be on the top ten list of purchases, but when it is, go to Yale where what you are really buying is great service.

I had to buy a washer and a dryer, this is easily the most depressing thing that I have ever had to spend money on and time thinking about. Seriously, is there anything less exciting? I have never felt more domestic and flaccid in my entire adult life. Maybe, just maybe a colonoscopy or cleaning out the gutters or calling a home inspector would be more of a dreaded thing to do. I've been dreading this, and I hate sales people so I've been avoiding the painful 'so, what's it gonna take for me to sell you this little honey right here' talk for way too long.

Well, I went to Yale last weekend and at first impression I really wanted to vomit on myself for even going to visit a 'appliance showroom'. The place was bustling with sales folks with clipboards and shoppers with measuring tapes who also had clipboards. What's with a ll the fucking clipboards? This place is admittedly, pretty awesome. I just hate crowds and shopping and stores so this whole bright and shiny place was just a lot for me to handle. The little lady had to stop me from getting all Rain Man in a corner a few times, but that's another story.

Gah. Well, we found the washers and dryers and found the exact one we wanted. It took us a few trips to customer service to find a sales fella to help us 'wrap this baby up' but we eventually found one. I have to say, he wasn't bad and did not try to up sell me at all. He respected our price point and also respected the fact that I didn't want a stupid Yale Appliance credit card and he gave us our delivery and removal of old appliances for free (I guess you are only supposed to get this if you use their googey credit, or some nonsense). The price was right and our stuff will be delivered soon.

    The end.

I live in Cambridge and have bought three dishwashers as well as various interior lights for our home over the last 12 years. I have never had a better big box retailer experience from such a solid group of people. It seems like they all like what they do (maybe they LOVE it?), they care, and they did what they said they'd do and more.  The service was the only thing better than the products I bought.  Blown away . . . as good as it gets.

Yale was a recommendation from a close friend, and given as a piece of advice from one new home owner to another.  As a new homeowner I have spent a lot of time at Home Depot, Bejamin Moore, etc.  However, when I walked into Yale Appliance and Lighting it was like walking into someone's home--where all of the objects are for sale.

I walked into Yale with a hairy situation: a lighting fixture that had been broken by my painter.  The staff at Yale instantly sprung into action.  Henriette reached into the fixture gave me the name of the manufacturer and the item ID.  Even though Yale didn't carry the fixture or the manufacturer--she told me that they would replace the broken piece for me, and then hand sketched the original fixture so that we had a picture the manufacturer could reference for the replacement.

I was also looking for a chandelier and as a new home owner I couldn't articulate what I was looking for.  Henriette took the measurements of my room, and references I made and in 15 minutes had THE fixture that I had been searching endlessly for!

Thank you, Yale!  You have renewed my faith in customer service.  I can't wait to get my new chandelier from you.

    *** UPDATE****
I mentioned in my original post that the rebates can be a pain, but Yale Customer Service has more than compensated for this inconvenience.

I had purchased a complete Bosch appliance set and was getting frustrated with the wait time.  I notified Yale of my frustration and they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make things right.  After waiting months for a rebate, they pushed things through and I had my rebate refund within 3 DAYS!!

I would definitely recommend going to Yale over Home Depot or Lowe's - not only because of their pricing and selection but also because they still understand the concept of Customer Service.

    ---------

Yale is a really great alternative to Home Depot or Lowe's!  They have an amazingg selection of high-end appliances and their annual tent sale really has some amazing deals.

Depending on the month you can get some amazing bargains on full sets.  Althought the rebates are a real pain they can make high-end appliances affordable.

In a world overrun by Home Depot and Lowe's, it's nice to see a place that is independently owned and thriving.  Yale has it all - high end, $6,000 stoves and run-of-the-mill workhorse brands like Maytag and Whirlpool.  They even have great lighting (see  Kate for all your lighting needs :-), and are helpful in providing you with whatever it is you're looking for to fit your style and budget.

The customer service is the best I've encountered ANYWHERE.  When we recently purchased new appliances for our kitchen, our sales man (Bill) was courteous, funny, scheduled our delivery for within the week, and even worked with us to stay within our budget.  He even upgraded our range and provided us with discounted dishwasher installation.  When I called him with a question, he called me back within 30 minutes!  Shocking, I know.

As for delivery and installation, they showed up when they said they would and were also courteous and patient as I cleaned the 20-year old gunk from under the appliances and filled in some holes that were allowing critters to make an appearance.  The team that installed the dishwasher was great to chat with and they did their job with ease.  The team that delivered the range, hood and fridge were also great and efficient.  They even pointed out that the fridge was damaged and said they'd take it away and schedule another one to be delivered soon there after.  In less than 15 minutes of them leaving, a customer service rep from the home office called and scheduled to have another delivered by the end of the week.  It's amazing how a little extra effort (free delivery. free haul-away of your old stuff, and just plain, old niceness) really goes a long way.

Yale is just awesome...don't bother dealing with the bozos at big box stores, just go straight to Yale.  You'll seriously wonder why you ever even considered anywhere else.

I was in Yale Appliance today, and reminded one more time how amazing this store is.  The selection of appliances, lighting fixtures and kitchen and bath fixtures is incredible -- more varied and more unusual than what you'll find anywhere else in Boston.  There is something for every price-point.  The salespeople really know their stuff and can help you make the best choice for your situation and your budget.  Delivery and removal are offered for a reasonable fee.

Also, try Yale for your appliance repairs.  They are prompt, reliable and professional.

Yale is the Jordan's of home appliance stores. They have pretty much every permutation of dishwasher, fridge, stove, vent hood ... you name it, it's in the showroom. And it's probably hooked up and running (think an entire corridor of functioning dishwashers). If something you're looking for isn't there, a salesperson will bring you a catalog ... and sit with you, or leave you alone -- whichever you prefer.

Their service is perfect. They don't screw up. They call when they say they're going to. The delivery people are pros. They make the process of buying a huge piece of machinery as easy as possible (helpful hint: when the lady at the door offers to assign you a salesperson, say yes).

They get nothing but love from me.

We recently purchased a washing machine from Yale, based upon the recommend of a friend who had been in the appliance business. Sure enough, it was less expensive and better than the chain stores (Best Buy, Home Depot, etc.). They delivered for $50 and took the old washer away.

    Or they were supposed to.

Turns out the delivery guys decided that because one of the old hoses wouldn't come off of the end of the water faucet, we needed to call a plumber before they would install the new machine. My husband asked if they could just hook the old hoses up to the new machine (they are universal hoses) but they said that you can't do that, then left. And no, they didn't want to take the old machine--they just left it unhooked in the middle of our basement and said they would get it when they came back (WHY?????).

We suspect they were on some sort of schedule and just didn't want to take the time. We didn't tip them like we were planning on.

So my husband and I hooked up the new machine to the old hoses without any problem--machine works fine. Now I have to take time off of work in order for them to come and pick up the old machine that they left previously. Highly irritating.

    -- UPDATE --

In the follow-up call after the delivery, we explained what happened, but nothing was done until nearly a year afterward when Steve S. contacted me in January '07 after seeing my negative blog response. He asked me for more details and I responded. Then, to my frustration, I heard nothing back for nine months--in Sep '07, to let me know that he was sending a $75 gift certificate.

While I would normally appreciate the gesture to rectify the situation, the haphazard way in which this was handled makes it hard not to believe that the effort was only made to get me to remove my Yelp opinion.

Uh....I think I got taken.  Microwave was having an issue.  According to the website, they charge $89 to come out, then $109 for repairs (plus parts, etc.).  The guy came out, couldn't find anything wrong other than needing a new roller guide ring - told me they could order it for me and come out and install it (pretty sure my Golden Retriever could "install it"...) - I declined.  He wanted to charge me $109!!!  Now, keep in mind, I had already paid the $89 for the service call.  When I balked, he quickly agreed to give me a "break" and "only" charge me $50.  The more I think about it, the more I am confused as to why I should be charged anything over that initial $89, when they didn't DO anything....

Next time I'll go with someone else.

UPDATE 4/15/10 - I just got off the phone with Steve Sheinkopf, who is the president of Yale.  Just in case anyone on this site thinks no one reads or cares about their reviews, you could not be more mistaken.  Steve contacted me after seeing my review here, and he and I discussed my experience with Yale, and not only is he refunding the $50 I was charged, he is also sending me a $40 gift card.  I was just completely shocked that a company would take such measures just to try to satisfy one customer, and because of this, I am amending my rating of the operation.  It's nice to find a company that takes customer service seriously.

Service and help has been far above anything I expected and the people at every level have been superb in resolving the issue.
Electrolux EIDW6015GS failed multiple times and with multiple units.   Sales Person Vincent got back involved and brokered the original replacement and then worked with the owner of Yale and Electrolux to replace the second unit with a Bosch SHX45L15UC.   The same service team has been to my house 12 times.  Jeremy and Manny.  Two of the nicest, polite and professional repairmen I have ever met.  Not a single murmur of a complaint of the 4 flights up and down to the truck and to replace units.   Their follow up and the care they use to protect the home is exceptional.   The only improvement they need is in communicating with the customer during any process.

I think they have really proven themselves to be a customer focused company that puts the customer's satisfaction at the top of their values.

To the owner of the company, if you are reading this, take Jeremy and Manny out for dinner or give them a bonus.  They are two of your best assets and deserve a bit of extra attention for their valiant work in slogging the multiple dishwashers up and down the four flights while maintaining a smile and pleasant disposition for me, the customer.

Fresh baked cookies and good prices!

I've shopped all the appliance stores when I bought my new house and had a tiny (single mom/state worker) budget. At first glance, because this store does carry high end lines, I was intimidated by price but I looked at all the items and I found the best dishwasher I've ever owned for about $400...there were very expensive ones there but I picked a winner.  The refrigerator was a 'going rate' for that kind of fridge, on the low end but Fridgedaire...no different than anywhere else.

Their delivery fees are low and excellent delivery service.

Also, Sears charges a really high fee for extended warrantee for limited services. Yale charges less AND you get SO MUCH MORE. Service, visits, labor, parts...really the very best warrantee deal around. And, real humans answer the customer service calls, call you back when they say they will and bend over backward to get you the service call times you need.

I absolutely recommend Yale. Don't be fooled by the high end stuff on the floor. They have a website where you can order stuff that they don't have on the floor. I got the matching stove for my other appliances online.

And one more thing....they bake chocolate chip cookies and cook gourmet food all thru the weekend, so go hungry and eat. It's awesome.

We recently went to Yale for a new dining room light fixture. We chose them as we were not satisfied with Home Depot, Ikea, or Lowes' selections or service. The sheer volume of choices can be intimidating, and we spent about 20 minutes just looking at the different styles of fixtures. We were surprised to see a cooking class going on in the store - apparently, their kitchens are functional and they hold periodic cooking classes. It's a great idea to get prospective buyers thinking about a new kitchen (as we began to when we saw the class). We settled on a new light, and the staff was helpful in getting it picked out and ready for us to drive it home.

The selection is really fantastic, all types of appliances (fridges, stoves, lights, sinks, ovens, microwaves, outdoor fixtures) are represented, and they have a warehouse with most of the items in stock. It is also right next to the local IBEW and I have had several contractors say they use Yale for all their appliance purchases. The prices aren't rock-bottom, but it is worth it to get a quality appliance.

I've bought quite a few things at Yale.  They excel at selection, particularly for higher-end lighting and appliances.  They are also good about ordering out-of stock items and shipping them along to us for a nominal shipping charge.  My only beef with Yale, which has resulted in my ordering from other vendors more than a few times (including today), is the lack of "access."  No email, no web-based communication, no fax.  If you call, you get stuck on hold for long stretches of time.  I may be type A, but I don't have time to hang on the phone in this day and age.

Addendum: As noted below, the CEO contacted me immediately after I posted this and put me in touch with the people I needed.  I guess that makes it worth 5 stars!

Due to an unfortunate mishap I had with our kitchen light we are now in the market to replace the newly chipped fixture.

We decided to check out Yale as we have been in there on a couple occasions but have not actually purchased anything. We put our name in at the front desk and Robert was the GM who helped us decide on a new fixture.

Through our conversations with Robert he suggested we take his card and e-mail him a picture of the maladjusted fixture as there was a chance that we may be able to just purchase a new glass shade, instead of a whole new fixture. Now my question is this. Who does this? Personally, I was amazed by this offer. First off, we were only looking to spend roughly $100 so he wasn't going to be making a huge sale off us. Secondly, if we could purchase a new shade that would bypass any sale to Yale.

Armed with Roberts e-mail I shot off a e-mail with pictures to Rober the next day, and within hours he responded to my e-mail.

While it looks like we will need to purchase a new fixture, I am now sold on where we will purchase the fixture, as well as our new washer and dryer.

UPDATE - 5/2009: Our refrigerator we purchased new in 1/09 never worked properly and after several agonizing months, countless visits from the service technician, and copious calls to LG, they finally accepted the fact that our appliance was a lemon. Even with AAA Appliances actively denying LG's request to facilitate a return, LG did the right thing and provided us with a full refund of our purchase so we could procure a new appliance elsewhere.

Once the check was in our hot little hands we sped off to Yale. I cannot remember who helped us, but he was great and steered us in the right direction. Which was not an easy task as we couldn't make a decision, and were a little gun-shy purchasing a second refridge in the same year. To top things off, we learned our choices were severely limited because of where the refrigerator resides. Apparently, our old refridge was too big for the space, and they recommended we looked at smaller units. With a lot of guidance we made our choice, however, we were still nervous about our decision.

Upon delivery of the new appliance the delivery guys could not have been nicer, or more professional. They seamlessly moved out the old/new refridge and installed the brand new refridge without making a single mark on the floor, or charging us for extras like hooking up the water line to the refridge.

After living with our new refridge for a few days we realized the salesman was right, and our old unit was too big for our kitchen. We couldn't be happier with our purchase.

Not sure I can agree with the poster who gave these guys 1-star for having the gall to charge to come look at his broken appliance.... I am not aware of any appliance repair services that do free inspections.

I have bought numerous appliances here - while the place can be crowded and impersonal at times on the sales side, the staff is knowledgeable and the prices are very competitive (sent them sealed bids, they responded quickly and on the one item out of four that they were a bit high on they agreed to match it - for that you may have to ask...). And I've used their service also - yes once the warranty is up you will have to pay, but they showed up on time in every case and the repair guys got the job done.

We are fans of this place for sure.  Long before we re-did our kitchen and bathrooms we used to go and wander around checking out all the gorgeous appliances, sinks, lighting and everything else, imagining this or that in our house.  It's amazing
how worked up you can get over a refrigerator. This is a great place to get ideas and to dream.  When you're ready to renovate the staff is there to help.  We have found the staff to be top-notch. We have also been personally helped by the CEO. Try getting that kind of service at one of the no-personality big-box stores. We got all our kitchen appliances here and were very happy with the service and everything we bought.  I am in love with my Sub-Zero refrigerator and fabulous stove, hood and dishwasher. Call me shallow but I love my appliances and this place has great products. We've been back since our remodel for some beautiful lighting fixtures.
On weekends Yale has chefs come in to do cooking demos on the mocked-up kitchens they have on display. Whatever the chefs make, you get to eat. Once I watched a chef make a delicious butternut squash soup that I now make all the time in the fall and winter. So I guess you could say you also get recipes and cooking tips from Yale.    Shopping and eating; what could be more fun?

I had a very good experience at Yale.

Last summer I bought a new-construction condo that came with appliances purchased at Yale.  There were problems with the refrigerator from the beginning, and after several visits from the service techs and more than 2 months time, I wrote an email to Steve the CEO detailing each of the problems and the fact that the refrigerator was still not running properly.

He quickly responded and within 2 days I had a call from their service team to schedule a swap for a new refrigerator.

Yale clearly stands behind the products they sell.  If there are problems and reasonable attempts to fix them have not worked, you can feel confident that Yale will do the right thing.

Hopefully I won't need any new appliances for a long time, but I will certainly recommend them and visit the store for lighting or anything else I may need.

We remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago, and we shopped around (I was dragged around) for everything. After visiting a majority of the cabinet, appliance, granite stores in the north, south, and west of Massachusetts, we finally decided on Yale for our appliances. We walked the showroom, and were lucky to make an appointment on the same day to have someone assist us with our decisions (by then we were both on information overload). The agent took his time and answered all of our questions, and even worked the computer system to maximize Yale and manufacturer discounts.  We've been back since for lights and other things for our house.

This place has quite the showroom.  Needing new kitchen stuff, our first decision was we will NOT be going to Home Depot, Best Buy, Lowe's, etc because paying for Nascar banners is not our thing.  So we decided to go local and keep our dollars in town.  Started out at Sozio's, which kinda sucked (they would've had a sale if the salesperson wasn't an idiot), and a friend recommended we check out Yale Appliance.  So we hopped in the car and ventured into a strange land known as the South Shore.

Finding the place can be confusing, but it's not that bad (coming from the north that is).  So make good note of directions as this is one of those times having Google Maps on the cell phone comes in handy.

The showroom is clean, with LOTS of stuff all over the place, but not too disorganized.   As noted by another reviewer, they've got all the high-end appliances, most of which can be found in a package deal with enticing rebates.  Elaborate kitchen displays/showrooms are functionally used, I think they have their own prof chef to demonstrate in the showrooms.  They baked cookies the day we visited.  :)

I like the fact that you have to sign up to talk to a rep, allowing us to take our time with looking around and not be bothered by annoying salespeople who are tough to find when you actually need them.  Instead, you can take your time looking around and get a rep when you need one.

Free delivery and removal For-The-Win.  Overall, I actually had fun going here, rather than the "get-me-the-hell-outta-here" attitude I usually take with me while shopping.

I have been a loyal customer of Yale since I have been old enough to purchase appliances.  Most recently my Bosch dishwasher was tipping a bit.  Called the service dept. and they came by the next day.  They did not even charge me, even thought I had owned the machine for over a year.  They are ordering new clamps to get a better fit and will be coming out AGAIN to make sure the dishwasher stays in place.  Oh-and all of this service was at NO CHARGE.  Yale is the best appliance store by far.  They stand behind their  products and they stand behind their customers.  I just want to add that I have purchased at least 8 major appliances to date.

OK, I do love these guys!  The day after my previous post, I got phone calls and emails from both Steve the CEO, and Service Manager Shaban.  They sent two very helpful and friendly service techs and a van full of parts to ensure everything was taken care of.

The day after they were done we weren't sure it was working correctly.  And so Shaban offered a -new- replacement dryer. Really? Are you kidding me?  That's just an outrageously amazing display of customer focus.  I've never seen a company work so hard  to make one customer happy.  Luckily, the dryer worked OK from that point on, and we didn't need to take him up on the offer, but I'm still amazed that they would do that.

Now, our kitchen appliances are starting to show their age, and need replacement.  My first stop - YALE!

So, my Bosch washer and dryer arrived and they are doing great.  My landlord received them and their staff were incredibly helpful in getting the machines set up.  My landlord had moved his own dryer to the other side of the basement and learned that his exhaust hose was no longer long enough to reach so they were kind enough to sell him a hose for $30 and save him a trip to the local hardware store.  For me, that shows great customer service.  Kudos to the folks at Yale Appliance and Lighting and keep up the good work.

When our antique dishwasher finally died (RIP, Mr. Dishwasher), we went to Yale to buy another -- the experience was absolutely painless.  The salesperson who helped us was knowledgeable without being pushy, and, since we had done a bit of research online, the entire process took about 25 minutes (Hint on Yale - don't go at peak times.  It gets really busy there during the day on weekends. We went on Sunday at about 5pm, and it was pretty quiet).  The dishwasher was delivered three days later by two very competent, efficient, nice guys who were in and out in about thirty minutes.    Thanks Yale - after our first not-so-great experience, you really redeemed yourself.

An initial very bad service experience led to a complaint on Yelp and a 1-star rating.  Within minutes of posting the complaint, the CEO had emailed and asked how he could make it right.  3 days later, all is well.  He delivered on his promise.  Much appreciated; now I only wish I had complained earlier.  Mistakes happen, but he made sure it worked out well.

UPDATE (Aug 29): CEO promised, and delivered, on a service call today.  Both problems fixed, and he will compensate us for time lost.  Very satisfied, exceptional response to the complaint on this board.

UPDATE(Aug 26): I wrote the below 30 minutes ago.  I got an almost instant email from the CEO and a promise to fix the problem quickly.  I'm very hopeful.

    ORIGINAL POST (Aug 26):

We bought a dishwasher (Kitchen Aid) from them 6 years ago.  It has been working badly despite several service calls.  We called them to fix it 3 weeks ago.

First visit: they diagnosed the problem, they thought, and told us how to fix it.  That didn't work
Second visit: they came back and decided the pump was broken.  Ordered a new part and scheduled a third visit.  Dishwasher still working, though badly.
Third visit (two weeks or more in).  They came and tried to install the part, but it was the wrong one, and now the dishwasher can't work until they get the right one.
Fourth visit (scheduled for today, a week later).  Cancelled because the part isn't in.  So we've had three visits, about a month has passed, and their contribution has been to turn a limping dishwasher into a broken one.

Also while they were here we asked them to look at a broken icemaker.
Second visit: told us how to fix it.  Seemed too complicated, so we asked them to fix it second visit at cost to us.
Third visit: "fixed; you'll have ice in 2 hours".  No ice
Still no ice, and no fourth visit because they don't have the part.

    This is really awful service.

I was at first sceptical about Yale Appliance because their prices didn't seem significantly cheaper than other retailers but a recent experience with Mr Shaban Banushi in the service and repair department completely changed my mind.  Mr Banushi got my Gaggenau cooktop to work-- even after the Gaggenau technician who made a service call to my home couldn't help.  Mr Banushi possesses the kind of knowledge of complex appliances that requires a lifetime to accumulate.  He wasn't just professional  and helpful, he was absolutely committed to giving 110% satisfaction and assistance.  Not to mention that it is extremely reassuring to deal with someone with Mr Banushi's expertise because he will exhaust every single alternative to get your appliance working.  He also didn't try to make me buy a lot of expensive parts.  He just wanted the cooktop fixed and would do everything in his power to that end.  I have rarely dealt with someone in the service sector who is so committed, knowledgeable, caring and professional.  Yale Appliance is VERY lucky to have this man!

Sure the selection is great but the service is the worst I've ever experienced.  We came in on a Sunday and at initial entry was asked if we needed to talk to a service rep.  We decided to look around a bit.  There was a lot to choose from so after ten minutes of browsing we went back to the desk to ask for a rep and was handed a beeper.  40 minutes later, we were still waiting for a rep and we saw that another customer who requested a rep after us just stopped a rep with questions.  We took down the info of the appliances we were interested in and left after waiting for an hour for the beeper to go off.  I will take my business elsewhere.

After writing this review above, Steve, the owner, contacted me and was able to give me a great price.  I went back repeatedly as the fridge I ordered didn't fit.  I negotiated with Steve each time for a good deal.  They even ordered me new shelves for my fridge because the ones that came with the fridge looked scuffed up.  The delivery and repair people were also very helpful.  My experiences afterwards made up for the lack of service in the beginning so I've updated the rating from one star to three.  Make sure you talk to Steve as the price that is advertised seems very negotiable.
