Review from Andrew F.
Seattle, WA
The Yakima river winds its way through the Kittitas Valley, but if you really want the full experience you need to drive about ten minutes south of E-burg, up Yakima Canyon. The River cuts through ancient Columbia Basalt and offers some of the best fly fishing in the known Universe. The only problem is the Rattlers. I have heard stories but tonight I experienced one of these soulless killers first hand.
I had been dealing with a tease of a fish for about a half hour. He bit my fly and spit it out about seven times. Not being one to give up that easily, I fished until it was almost dark. Sure I have heard warnings about the rattling sons of Beelzebub coming out after dusk, but I view myself as an invincible American who could never experience anything even slightly unpleasant (this is obviously sarcasm for those who don't pick up on such things). To make a long story short, as I was climbing up the loose rocks on my way back to the car, I heard the gut wrenching sound of tiny maracas and saw a two foot long, yellow striped killing machine about a foot away. He was coiled up and ready to destroy me, but I quelled my viking rage ( I have a beard, that counts, right?), and scrambled back to the car in one piece, thank Thor's mighty hammer.
If all this sounds incredibly masculine and gritty to you city folk, just remember, I was like you just one year ago. Luckily, my time out here has turned me into a grizzled, snake-dodgin' S.O B. Jealous?
P.S.- I realize that this is an incredible amount of B.S., but the snake thing really happened. Please god let me make it out of here alive!
