Before this place closed I was there for every Monday for a good 3 years. Mondays is their 50% off wings nite. I've also spent a couple of birthdays and weekends there as well.

Since it's reopened, I some times feel like theres a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a dive bar? Is it a neighborhood bar? Is it a sports bar? 100 tvs scattered everywhere is a bit much. We'll see what happens in the next year or so.

Now, for the food and beer. Beer selection is limited. I'm not a beer snob but I do enjoy a craft beer once in while and I do have a kegerator at home that I keep stocked with a pony keg from local breweries. Here, I order a Miller and a shot of Jameson. Wtf else do you need??

Food, the wings are awesome. Period. Spicy, tangy but not overpowering where you can't taste the chicken. I never understood why people wanted wings that don't taste like chicken. If you want sauce that bad, just drink sauce. The appetizers are not bad. A brick of fried onions cannot possibly be not good.

Anyways, stop reading my review and just go. Cash only. It won't break the bank. Have some free popcorn.

Not a fan at all.  I've only been once, but I have no intentions on going back.  I ventured across the street to Yakzies because our regular diner, The Grove, was closed.

I ordered the Chicken Caesar salad and as far as I could tell, the person who made it had never heard of Caesar salads before. Iceberg lettuce in a Caesar salad? Really?

I don't remember much about our service other than it was pretty bad.  I didn't get a refill on my drink and the waitress never came by to see how we were doing.

Plus, there were little gnats EVERYWHERE. Um, yuck.

One time when I was blacked out, I walked to Yak-Zies from LaSalle and Division at midnight after drinking all day. It somehow took 2 hours so I'm thinking I may have stopped somewhere to eat and I may have possibly fell asleep on a bench near Clark/Lasalle. I also lost my phone earlier and was hoping that my cousin Charles was still there when he called me 6 hours ago. This is where my memory begins to fade. I remember the place being lower level and there was A LOT of popcorn. Possibly 6 popcorn machines? I remember the bartender making sure I was alright as I was leaning on strangers. Charles was no where to be found but I quickly made friends with some people near the jukebox. Or did I make friends WITH the jukebox? Either way I gave my friends about 20 dollars to sing songs or play them on the jukebox. Im sure I had a blast here, and cant wait to go back.
Love,
Silky

Yak-zies closed down for a while (a year?) and re-opened to much fanfare.  By 'fanfare', I mean incessant 'woo-hooing' from the 'woo hoo girls.'  Outside of the bar.  At 2 am.  Nearly every night.

Curious to see what was going on in here to illicit such raucous celebration, I stumbled in for some grub.  The beer was passable, the bartender was nice, the pizza wasn't that great and the wings got the job done.  There was no flavor explosion in my mouth.  Not once, during the many sports games that played while I ate by myself, did I ever feel the need to woo hoo.  While, overall, a perfectly adequate experience, I remain unaware of why the woo-hoos?  Why the noise?  Why the screaming?

I suppose I'll never know.  But what I do know is that the screaming, at 2 am, nearly EVERY morning, HAS TO STOP.  Seriously, control your patrons.  Didn't you JUST re-open after being shut down for so long?  Did your time out teach you nothing?  Unless the bar is giving away free money in the middle of the night, the woo hoos need to stop.  At a minimum, Yak-Zies needs to respect its neighbors.  The food's not THAT good.

I SWEAR I wrote a review about this place back in the day before it closed.  I can't find it anywhere on Yelp, though.

Either way..

GUESS WHO'S BACK?
BACK AGAIN?
YAK-ZIES IS BACK... TELL YOUR FRIENDS.

By day the place serves as a great place to grab some food and drinks with your friends.  I will say the wings are great, the salads are huge, and the Tang sauce hits that happy place on my taste buds.

By night the place morphs into a late-night party for those of us who don't wanna call it quits at 2 or 3AM.  The seating is ample and every time I've been here it hasn't been too overcrowded.  The bartenders/waitresses are quick and friendly (including my friend who DOES work there) and always make sure you've had just enough fun, never too much.

Since I am a regular shacker in the apartment building next door I have to give the bouncers credit for keeping patrons as non-rowdy as possible late night - we haven't been woken up or disturbed once.  I am glad they are back because a late night place was definitely needed back in this neighborhood.

Why 3 stars?  Cash only automatically takes away a star in my book, and sometimes after a night out I've used up all my cash on cabs to and from.  I guess it is also a saving grace since I can't get the bright idea to order rounds of drinks or shots at 4AM...

This bar is starting to grow on me.

It had been closed almost the ENTIRE time I have lived in the area (1 year+), and it finally reopened a few weeks ago.

What I like about Yakzies:

Location - It's close to a lot of other bars, so if you ever get fed up, you can always leave and have some options withing a one block radius.

Service - The door guys are always super sweet, and the manager is a GIGANTIC man (like 6'6") that is a total pussy cat and really nice.

Patrons - I think Yakzies is going to establish itself as a neighborhood bar, sooner than later, and I hope it doesn't go all Duffys-esque

What I don't like about Yakzies:

Music - Entirely forgettable, they could at least have a jukebox.

Credit Cards - They don't accept them! Luckily I've never had to pay for my drinks here ;-) yea ladies!

Food - The pizza was just gross, and I believe it was frozen once upon a time.

Overall, I bet this bar will get better, as soon as it figures out what kind of people to attract!

A nice clean place and slightly above average bar food.  The wings are OK...better than average but not quite top 5 in the city as claimed on citysearch.

Wings are pretty small.  Beer selection is not great.

Bar is very new and the TV spread is great for games.  Bartender I had was a real nice guy.  Clientele seems pretty chill for the area.

Happy to have them back.  I have lived in the area for almost 9 years, and therefore I am too old for Duffy's.  I have eaten there twice since they re-opened.  The wings taste about how I remember them (taste good and the hot is not very hot).  I will say the chips and guacamole  is a complete ripoff.  The guac is ok, but you get a skimpy portion for the price and you get a handful of low grade chips to match.

No need to travel to get here, but if you live in the area its great to have back.

Hotwings & Beer. It's the only place I go for hotwings. Great place to meet friends and catch a game on one of the many tv screens. Parking is going to be a problem .. so be prepared to drive around.
