I spent about 1/4 of 2005 in Kerrville, TX, working as a professional archaeologist on a huge Native American site along the river.  We stayed in (and sort of trashed, but that's another story) the Holiday Inn Express, but we spent a whole lot of time at the YO for their half-price happy hour with food.

The YO is probably what the rest of the world thinks of what they think of Texas.  Completely over-the-top interiors with branding iron chandeliers and a taxidermied menagerie.  It's upscale, with spurs.

So we'd immediately make for the bar, which has its own share of dead animals, talk to the bartender, and put AC/DC on the jukebox.  Fast forward three years, and some of us decide to go hiking at Enchanted Rock.  We finish the night at the YO, where the bartender remembered us (as geologists, but still!) and the drink specials were the same.  

I couldn't tell you about the hotel rooms, or the dining hall, and I really wish they wouldn't have so many Native American artifacts on display, but the YO bar is a must see, especially if you have a whole passel of crazy archaeologists in tow.
