If you like playing semi-inebriated social sports, and then getting fully inebriated afterwards, this is the league for you! XOSO has been kicking it for about 3 years now, and they have slowly expanded their sports.
Whether your a first-timer just looking to meet some new people, or a seasoned vet of (insert sport or drinking game here), there's something for everybody at XOSO.
Nick (the owner) is very open to suggestions and input from participants, and he puts together seasonal bar crawls that will make you think you're back in college. Each league has a league bar, and while some (Blue Cue, Benny's) are better than others (MVPs), you get good drink deals everywhere, and the opportunity to shake off the cobwebs on your flipcup and/or beerpong skills.
To sum up XOSO in one sentence: "It's flipcup with a side of (insert your preferred sport name here)!" -

I just checked my credit cards for any black out charges that I may have made during Xoso's pub crawl (thankfully none this time), which meant that I should finally post a review after 3 years of participation...
Xoso is a great place to meet new people, play a "sport", and talk a bit of nonsensical trash at the flip cup/beer pong table. It's all about the pre and post game partying, so if you're super competitive or oddly afraid of people, this is not for you.
If you enjoy extra late nights, fuzzy memories, and waking up without regrets (mostly), Thursday night dodgeball is where it's at -

I joined the dodgeball team after a little prodding from my friend Josh and I have been having a blast ever since! After a lot of jokes and a lot of time studying the five Ds of dodge ball I was ready to go!

Leagues meet once a week. Expect to work up a sweat as you dodge and throw those big rubber balls! Then head down to the blue cue for social hour. Sessions last a half hour and you play as many games as you can fit in. Entry was only $65. Not bad for 8 weeks of fun!
XOSO is well organized and offers some other social leagues too.
Bowling
Kickball
Volleyball
Flip-cup
To name a few anyways
So hit up the website, sign up for a league and I'll see you on the courts!
I'll leave you with the parting words of the late Patches O' Hoolahan

I don't play, I'm frightened of getting hit by a ball (rubber OR foam), and I'm pathetically non-competitive. However, 5 stars because these folks are some of the nicest people in Sac, AND active community volunteers - yah!
I work at a local non-profit organization and we've hosted Xoso volunteer groups for two of our recent events. I think it's pretty cool that these guys and gals get together outside of their organized games to get together and volunteer. The Xoso volunteers I've worked with are energetic, enthusiastic, tons of fun and super nice people.
Once you guys start a flip-cup LEAGUE, I might be in... :) -

My only complaint about Xoso is that I wish I had found it sooner.
I'm a Sacramento native and recently moved back home after college, out of touch with my home city and tired of seeing all the same familiar places and faces. I play in the no-sting dodgeball league and it's the most fun I've had in years in Sac... No matter how badly we lose or how great we feel after creaming our opponents, great times are always had by all.
Nothing sounds better to me than playing a fun & somewhat intense game of dodgeball against other 20-somethings, then being able to share high fives with your opponents at the bar afterwards over a game of Flip Cup. -

When you open the door to the Boys and Girls club, you're immediately greeted with an unseen cacophony of squeaky sneakers and the pinging of rubber balls. As you turn the corner and peer into the basketball courts, the scene before you differs a bit from your memories of elementary school. Instead of seeing a circle of small children playing dodgeball, you see two sides of 8 adults screaming and throwing rubber balls wildly, a few of them pegging the small children in the bleachers.
Welcome to XOSO's dodgeball league.
XOSO is an after-work sports league where children over the age of 21 can play an ever-expanding variety of sports. Talking to the people in the league you realize that you're dealing with a very diverse group. Whether you're a lawyer, auditor, hairstylist, or IT guy, you all share the same love for recess sports and binge drinking.
Oh yea, did I mention that this league drinks... a lot.
The great thing about this league is no matter how much you were cussing your head off at the opposing team all the hard feelings are left on the court. Once you walk into the league bar (Blue Cue), there's a sense of camaraderie as you share highlights from that night's match with the opponent you were throwing high balls at moments before. Blue Cue is a great location for the afterparty as they set up tables and stacks of red cups for people to play beer pong, flip cup, and snappa.
Basically, you get to play like a schoolkid then party like a fratboy, without the schoolyard bullies or... fratboys.
For those of you who are scared of being pegged in the face with a rubber ball, the league is currently experimenting with a foam ball league. I'm not sure how that would work exactly, as you're not likely to get as much speed from those kinds of balls, but I imagine girls will complain less when the balls hit their faces... *cough*
Anyway, I highly recommend this league. -

I was reluctant to join at first, as I've never been overly impressive at sports.
Being new to the area, I figured I had nothing to lose, and joined the Sunday night Recess league, where you get to rotate through all three sports (dodgeball, kickball, and volleyball) weekly... the bonus being I could figure out which sport I stunk less at and join that league full time.
I'm hooked. The hardest part is deciding which sport(s) to play each season!
Nick does a good job balancing new players with old, and putting the more competitive teams together in A league, B league format. This allows for more fun all around.
One last thing- don't be afraid to head to the bar afterward, even if you aren't drinking... Designated drivers still get in on the drinking games... Nobody gives you a hard time for playing Flip Cup with water (ok, maybe there's a little heckling, but it's all in good fun!). -

It's been a while since I've played in any XOSO related activities, but I thought I'd finally get around to giving it the recognition it deserves:
Like many others, I had some initial hesitation when asked to join an adult dodgeball league. After numerous emails and other forms of correspondence from my teammates, I began to feel at ease. I had a blast my first game and stayed in the league for 6 more seasons.
There's nothing like the feel of victory. Games become intense, friends are made, pitchers of beer are shared, and happy times ensue. After a while, you begin to anxiously wait for Wednesday or Thursday, or whatever day your game happens to land on. It becomes a big part of your life.
Nick, and most everyone else associated with XOSO, is beyond friendly and more than willing to answer any questions, or field any concerns that you have about the league.
I haven't played for a while, due to various reasons, but I will definitely be heading back soon! -

XOSO changed my life in a sense. I had move to the area and didn't know anyone for the most part. I stumbled upon XOSO while online one day and decided to check it out. It is the most fun stress reliever while making some lifelong friends in the process. You will not be disappointed (unless your team loses, but that's what beer is for). -

I have been playing XOSO for over a year now and its freaking awesome! I have tried all the sports and every single one of them is a good time. I have made so many friends since I joined and it seems there is something going on every weekend with people I have met through XOSO. The games are a blast, but so is going to the league bar afterwards for flip cup and beer pong. I would recommend anyone play a season and just see how much fun you have and how many new people you meet. I joined by myself and never once felt awkward because everyone was so friendly and inviting. Its a really great way to break up your week and let loose.

I just started playing dodgeball (well, its not the REAL dodgeball, this kind is played with foam balls instead of rubber) last week. I have to say that it is extremely well organized, and, just down right fun. After the first night I played, the next day my ENTIRE body was sore, but, boy, did it feel good. Who knew that you could get an entire body workout doing something that is soo much fun?
If you have any apprehension about joining, DON'T. Everyone is super welcoming. OH, the best part, after the games, everyone heads to the sponsor bar, which, for Wednesday nights is Streets of London, and plays flip cup! It is a great opportunity to get to know everyone.
Next, I may try volleyball or bowling! -

I was originally introduced to the league through my friend who was a former dodgeballer...I would go to her games, hangout with her and her league friends. It only seemed right that I join.
I chose to take the less abusive route when it comes to the different recess games the league offers...so I decided to join Monday Night Indoor Kickball.
The league is a great way to have fun, meet new people, and did I mention having fun? Nick has done a great job with the league and coordinating childhood faves back into our adult lives!
I highly recommend joining...you will not regret it. If you do, I guess I give you permission to hit me with a dodgeball. Ouch...not too hard, not too hard!!Listed in: Seek Me Out...

5 stars again, don't even worry about it. Let's play some effing dodgeball.
Do you know what I did today at work? I signed up for my second season of dodgeball and got my friend from work to sign up, who intern got his friend to sign up. Why?
Do you know what I did last night? I played dodgeball with a delightful mix of guys and gals. We won, nbd, and brought the celebration over to the PIne Cove that sponsors the league. Once we got there I wanted to hop in and play some flip cup with my league mates, but unfortunately I couldn't lose any games of beer pong and had to stay at that table. Don't you hate it when that happens? Am I asking a lot of retorichal questions or what? Oops there it goes again.
I wasn't sure about joining this league, I actually saw it on this thing (yelp delivers again). But then I read all these wonderful reviews, which turned out to be accurate, and I thought: Anybody who's down to go play some co-ed dodgeball and then go to the bar and play some flip cup on a wednesday night is alright with me. The people are what really make this league.
Besides, what do you really have better to do on a wednesday night then make some friends, run around playing some dodgeball, and then go have a couple brewski's? Thought so, do it.
Oh ya, I guess they got kickball and capture the flag, too. Some of my teammates do that as well and say it's just as fun. -

I joined Xoso in April for Spring Coed Dodgeball and I'm very glad I did. The games are fast-paced, fun and competitive. Going to the sponsor bar after the game is a blast. Cheap drink specials, beer pong and flip cup are awesome. The cost for the season is $55 (for the early bird sign-up) and that gets you a shirt and about 8 games. So, that's about $6-7 a game. Not bad at all.
The only things I would say could use improvement are refs for the games (right now it's volunteers from other teams and a floating league ref). Sometimes the volunteers aren't as well versed in the rules as they could be and it's always a better match with the league ref officiating. Also, their multimedia section of the web site (pictures) could be updated more often.
Other than that, if you're looking for something fun and social to do every week (and get a good workout too) then dodgeball, or any of their other sports, is definitely the way to go. -

XOSO is where you go to meet the best of Sacramento.
In the few months that I have been involved with XOSO, I have met the most outgoing, athletic and positive minded individuals since my move here three years ago. XOSO IS more then just a sports league. It is a social club.
After games most of the teams get together to talk smack or play random games like flip cup and shuffleboard. Between seasons everyone stays in touch and makes plans for league night. We head to our favorite bars and pretty much take it over.
Most of players make a point of getting to know everyone in the league and warm invites are passed around.A couple dozen teammates had a great time on Halloween thanks to Captain Gordon and Elaine taking us into their home. Ho was kind enough to keep it going with his great moving party this month!
I'm looking forward to Indoor Kickball starting up on Thursday. Check out the website and register for upcoming Dodgeball. It'll be the most fun you have all week and you'll make some great friends! -

As much as I really enjoyed playing Dodgeball, I think that there are some things that could be changed to take some of the stress out of some of the games. I haven't played for the past two seasons because:
1) it's pretty much the cost of a gym membership (except where you only play once a week for 30 min); and
2) (and this is the main reason) there are no official referees. The referees are volunteers who either haven't started their games yet or just finished playing their games.
Don't get me wrong, I loved playing in this league, and I always had bundles of fun, but there are always games where people decide to referee that either don't know the rules, aren't paying attention, or simply cannot stick to their call when they are confronted by an upset team. There are also many players who don't play by the "honor code" which also results in frustration when someone who isn't the referee catches it. I know this league is meant for non-competitive fun where people get to meet each other, but it can sometimes be frustrating...
Lastly, the first season I played the winning teams were presented with two free pitchers of beer at Pine Cove. They stopped doing this and instead provided beer at discounted rates you might see at happy hour. I am not sure why they stopped doing this because Xoso brings in a ton of people to the bar on those Wednesday nights and that I thought it was a minor expense given the amount of potential customers that are brought in. (Maybe I am wrong about this one).
Anyway, the league is still really fun, I love all the people in it, and I hope to join again. I know that the league is still relatively new and is subject to change along the way, these are just some suggestions (and I'm sure I am not the first person to address these concerns). I still love xoso!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I started playing xoso sports a little over a year ago. I've played dodgeball and kickball and liked both! When I first started, I signed up as a free agent (didn't know anyone and was just placed on a random team). To my surprise my whole kickball team was made up of rookies, none of us had played before and no one knew each other. A year and a half later, we still see each other regularly! I still see and talk to my dodgeball friends too! Xoso has given me the opportunity to meet great people and make friends for life!

Beer. Dodgeball. Beer. Kickball. Beer. Volleyball. Beer. Capture the Flag? Wait, scratch that last one. But in any case, you should see a trend here.
Don't be scared off by the thought that you'll get hit in the face. Everyone should learn to take it in the face, and maybe even like it. You'll meet some really great people through XOSO, you'll acquire a rainbow of tshirts in your closet from all the seasons that you play (possible uses: car-washing shirts, pajama shirts, hiking shirts, painting shirts), you'll get some exercise, and you'll get to drink lots of cheap beer.
What more could a person want out of entertainment? -

I dont think Ive played Capture The Flag since I was a camp counselor almost ten years ago, but you know what.... it comes right back to you! The people at Xoso and the players were all awesome, and it wasnt so competitive that it was all a bunch of jock types, just cool people who wanted to come out and have some fun! Sadly with two kids at home I couldnt stick around for the after-game festivities, but one of these days...
Oh yeah... and its a great workout.... SORE today.... -

Summer 2009 Kickball was my first experience with Xoso Sport & Social League and I can assure you that it will not be my last. Being relatively new to the Sacramento area I decided that I needed to get out of the house and meet some people. Lemme tell you what, I am glad that I found this group on Yelp! Through the short time that I have been associated with this league I have met so many quality, nice, down to earth people in a very short period of time!
I cannot say enough about the guy, Nick, who runs this league. He is a very cool guy who is well organized , approachable, and is at every game in order make sure that things run smoothly! EVERY GAME! Talk about dedication.
The games in and of themselves are fun but not super competitive and a ton of people head over to the neighborhood bar after the games to play some flip cup/beer pong/whatever, which always makes for a great time. Please join this league if you are looking to meet some great people while getting some physical activity in your life! Plus you get a t-shirt when you join a team! -

I've met some of my best friends at XOSO and I only signed up less than a year ago. I've played volleyball and outdoor kickball and had a blast! I haven't worked up the courage for dodge ball yet because of some of the things I've heard about it. But if you check out their website you'll see that Nick took the dodge ball issues into consideration and came up with the more casual recess league to deal with the competitiveness and introduced a dodge ball league that uses foam balls for the folks that complained that the rubber balls hurt. All in all, XOSO incorporates everything that every adult needs which is being active and surrounding yourself with fun, positive people.

I have been playing in xoso since the 2nd season of dodgeball, and I love it! I've meet a lot of people, and I've made a lot of friends. I've done all of the sports, and I do say that although dodgeball is my favorite, it has turned some people off. Some people are not happy about the reffing, but that's tough noogies. This is a sports and SOCIAL league and it is also the nature of the sport. I am just as competitive as the next person,(and I argue with the refs just as much as anyone) but really, we're here to have fun. Nick does the best to make everybody's experience enjoyable and he takes pride in his league. If you are not happy about the refs, then take it upon yourself to do a good job when you do it. It's not easy. Bottom line, you get to play a cool sport that you don't normally see any where else(no matter how good you are or not), meet new people, go to the bar afterward, and do it all again next week. If you are one of the d.b.s that are looking to win every single time, or take your anger out on hitting people in the face with a ball (especially the ladies), then take your attitude and anger elsewhere.

This review is especially for GIRLS. We need more girls!!!!
I signed up knowing no one. I was totally scared out of my mind cuz besides not knowing anyone, I never played an official game of dodgeball before. Well lets just say I found out the hard way (after getting hit a couple time in the head and getting a few bruises). My teammates (Blue Ballerz!!) were all new to dodgeball as well so we really didnt know what to expect. Well that was the first season...
I'm in the second season now and just signed up for my third season of dodgeball. Dodgeball is awesome!! Very intense so you will definitely get a workout but also very fun. Everyone is there to have fun and afterwards we all head to the bar to talk trash and buy pitchers of beer. Lots of games of flip cup and beer pong all night long.
If u have any worries, do not despair. I have made sooo many new friends through xoso. I still keep in touch with my original team and continue to make new ones each season. If u are reading this and decide to sign up and u mention this review, I will buy u a drink and we will talk dodgeball all night after beating you in flip cup, of course.
also has kickball and maybe capture the flag if dodgeball isnt your cup of tea :) -

Well, I finished my first season playing co-ed dodgeball last night. I joined an inexperienced team and we went from no wins throughout the season to 2 wins in the consolation round!
Every season, there seems to be a shortage of girls who join the dodgeball league. Here are my top 10 reasons why girls should join:
1.) It's super fun to play, and somewhat competitive. Also a great sport to watch the other teams play.
2.) Learn what team work is all about! Great bonding experience with friends.
3.) It's a great workout in 30 minutes!
4.) Exciting opportunity to meet new and friendly people, ages 21+
5.) The fun continues after the game as booze, flip cup competitions, and more socializing are involved at the Pine Cove.
6.) When you get bruises from getting hit with the ball, you can make up funny stories to people who ask you how you got the bruise. I like to call my bruises "battle wounds" heeheheee.
7.) Striking out one of the male opponents is the best feeling ever. Girl Power!
8.) You get an awesome vibrant colored XOSO shirt. The shirts run a bit big for the girls in my opinion. I got a medium size and it was too big on me.
9.) You get to unleash any frustrations or anger from earlier in the day and use that energy in the game! ARRRGH!
10.) Last, but not least....CUTE BOYS!
Can't wait to sign up next season for dodgeball and other sports that XOSO has to offer (kickball, volleyball, capture the flag, etc.)! -

This is a really fun league. In fact, "xoso" folks are the primary source of our fun and entertainment. In addition to the games (which are incredibly fun and nostalgic), we meet up in restaurants, bars and recently spent a weekend in Tahoe with just people we've met through xoso leagues. If you're new in town, or just want to meet fun, real people that enjoy a good time, there's no reason to hesitate. You don't have to be athletic, just have a good attitude.

One word: Dodgeball. It's so awesome they made a movie about it. Now it's in Sacramento, brought to you by Xoso. If it wasn't for Xoso, I wouldn't have anything to look forward to on Wednesday evenings. Dodgeball is a great game. It's fun, it's intense, and anyone can play. You'll laugh, you'll cry (ok, probably not), you'll rejoice, you'll meet new friends, you'll drink some beer (if you're into that sort of thing), you'll play some flip cup, you'll kick yourself for not having joined sooner.
If you're one of those people (like I used to be) who sit on their butt after work everyday and wonder what other people are doing for fun, this is it! Join Xoso for dodgeball, kickball, volleyball, capture the flag, whatever it is you think sounds like fun. Get up, get out, and have some fun! -

Xoso sport and social league is soooooo mmmmmmmuch ffffffffun. You don't know what you're missing, especially if you are sitting on your ass playing video games or watching other people play sports on tv! I am on a kickball and dodgeball team. Kickball is laid back and slow and offers plenty of time for socializing. Dodgeball is THE BEST. I'm totally addicted and a little in love. You get plenty of exercise and time to work up a sweat. It's great for any skill level and you don't need to be athletic to enjoy it. If you can't work up the nerve to jump in right away, it's plenty of fun to watch, but you've got to be alert, because the balls are flying. Seriously though, it's more fun to play. Plus, after the game, some people go hang out at the bar and talk about all the great plays and awesome saves or just relax before going home after a good work out. If I sound like a crazy fanatic, it's because I am. The more people join the better it will be. So come check it out!
