I heard about this place because my friend wanted to chow down on them after we had dinner on the pier for his birthday. The problem? We went on a Monday and it was closed. He ultimately had them, but since I was exposed to it, I was intrigued. I love me some churros so something that is like them, well, I'll try them!
Ended up in Santa Monica and I thought I would swing by. So there was this little teenage "princess" trying to decide what she wanted and hogging up the middle of the floor like the store was hers. Whatever girl, there are other people in this world, quit hogging the ONLY good spot to read the menu! Dang!
There's a good 16 or so flavors of "Spanish Fritters" to have, ranging from chocolate to peanut butter to marshmallow. So my friend loves nuts (A woman who says out loud that she "loves nuts". Insert teenage boy joke here...) and had the "Mississippi" which contains a peanut butter center with chocolate and peanuts on the outside. I ordered the "S'more" which is chocolate with marshmallow in the center. So they call them "Spanish Fritters". Call me ignorant but they do look like churros with an outside coating of something other than sugar and then the hole in the middle is filled with a dessert-type center. If that makes it a fritter, OK, whatever. But essentially I will describe it as a churro with a filling. And honestly, I think there's nothing wrong with that because me loves some churros!
So why the 3 stars? Well there was "princess" ahead of me who took forever to order and then it was my turn. The big older Latino dude taking the order got the order from "princess" and then went to me. She also ordered a "S'more" and yet only one came out and the older dude started to yell at the younger Latino dude who took the next two orders after me. It wasn't the younger dude's fault! Come on! Don't be pissy because you messed up and took it out on someone else! Come on! Anyway, I had to wait while my friend chowed down on nuts. It's definitely gooey and you need napkins yet they don't put out a dispenser for them! Why? They serve tiny drinks that you can pay an exorbitant amount for on top of the $4 churro, er, "fritter". Service is a little slow and obviously bound to errors even with the not so crowded place. Oh, and a homeless lady came in to say something and left MAJOR B.O. in there. It made me realize they need better ventilation because it stank for a while that we stepped out while I waited for my order to come in for the second time. And the table that we ate at had crumbs all over it that looked like Oreo. Clean up people, you want to put your best foot forward! If you're gonna be messy on a Friday night, well shame on you!
It's a fad like Sprinkles, Pinkberry and whatever else is coming. It's a covered churro and if you love churros, you'll love this. Service can be questionable, but you really can't fault or mess up a churro now can you? Don't answer that!
I've to admit it, these xooros are a BOMB! They're amazingly tasty, flavorful, filling, and awesomely delicious.
Need I say more?
My favorite one is the Jordan combination with white & milk chocolate and nutella. It's awesome.
I don't know guys... your only job is making churros... if you can't do that, what am I supposed to say? I ordered the maple bacon one-- sounded awesome. I wasn't sure the guy behind the counter knew they served churros at this place, but after a few seconds of akward silence, he finally seemed to understand that I was trying to order food from him. He rung me up, stood there for another second and then gave me this look like "well, I guess I gotta go make this thing for you now" and slowly disappeared into the back of the kitchen. 5 minutes later, he came back with a cold, hard, sticky mess of who knows what that was apparently my churro. Honestly, I'm not sure if there was actually a churro in there or not... it sure didn't taste like there was. This thing was cold and hard and way too sweet. I eventually just picked off the bacon (bacon is always good) and tossed it.
What a waste of 4 bucks. From now on, I stick with the churro cart on the Pier.
These xooros are awesome! I had never eaten such yummy treats, well maybe I've when I visited Italy a few years ago and had baba rum. I waltzed into Xooro not knowing whatsoever what to expect - I didn't even know what the store sold or that it was even there. I guess I had missed it all this time, perhaps I never walk down on that side of the street.
In any event, the store is so cutely decorated with a beautiful display of Bordeaux color Xooro boxes behind the counter; it's neat and clean; and the walls sport a white background materials with the letters X-O-O-R-O carved in it. It's very cool!
At first, I felt the sting of indignation at seeing that they've taken the concept of "churros" that I've known all my life and transformed them into a more commercialized version of themselves. But as I stood there, reading the different types and combinations, I realized that I had missed those streets in Madrid where these xooros are sold and I thought, "What a brilliant idea." I was amazed at the variety of xooros offered on the menu and I ordered three: vanilla, white chocolate, and the Jordan, which is a bomb of great nutella flavor. I loved it! My friend also loved the other ones.
I'm definitely going back to try out some more... next week.
As many others recently have said, Xooro's concept of gourmet, filled-or-coated with-sugary-goodness churros is a really cool idea... yet Xooro itself just sucks at fulfilling our expectations because the product doesn't taste as good as it looks. I've been there twice now + it just wasn't any better the 2nd time around. I really want to like it since it's such a novelty treat, but Xooro just needs to work on their... um, everything.
I first had the Jordan's Special (white + milk chocolate coated churro w/ Nutella chocolate filling) + initially loved it until I ran into a couple issues.
#1: It's coated in gooey chocolate yet tightly wrapped in paper inside a thin cardboard box... which thus means practically all the chocolate coating ends up on the paper. Or if not on the paper, it's all over your fingers as you're trying to peel the paper away as you pull your "premium fritter" out of the box. Nice packaging, but not too smart if they actually expect us to have a pleasant eating experience. Plus... the nice cardboard box is just going to end up in the garbage in 5 mins anyways so why have it?
#2: It's super ridiculously sweet. If you're going to get one of the coated Xooro's, I highly recommend sharing or you might become sick of it before you finish it. At $4.25 a pop for 5 mins of sugar overload, that's a price I'd want to split anyways.
I've also tried the Mango Xooro, which was much less mess-prone since it's not coated on the outside + is thus overall less sweet as well. However, it being not coated drew my attention more to how hard the product was. This wasn't a soft, warm churro like I would have wanted but rather a slightly stale, room-temperature disappointment. The flavor and taste was good ... but it just wasn't fresh, which would make sense seeing as the shop always seems empty when I've been there. Empty of both customers + employees I might note since the one employee there seemed so uninterested + dull.
Xooro is lucky that they were able to put a location at such a touristy + hang out hotspot since this factor is probably what keeps them in business. If they want to stay in the game, I'd seriously recommend making a fresher (or at least warmer) product + changing the packaging. They really don't need to spend the money on having annoying "xooro" wrapping paper + nice boxes around their "premium fritters" ... I'd rather wait an extra 2 mins to have a fresh fritter + an upbeat employee behind the counter handing it to me.
This place looks great on paper, but is lacking in substance. The website and pictures at the store make it seem gourmet. There is nothing gourmet about this place. There is little seating, so not a good place to hang out, and the churros are no better than the kind you get at a school fair.
Yes, they offer unique and interesting flavor combinations, but the ingredients are too cheap to make it taste they way it should. It felt like the churro I got had been sitting out overnight or something. Skip the flashy presentation and go somewhere else.
After several raving, unprompted reviews, I had to try it.
The reviews from my friends were absolutely correct.
Step 1
You'll wonder if they are open. No one is there. No customers. No employees.
Step 2
Someone will magically appear, bringing to mind Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. This adds to the appeal.
Step 4
You'll decide to order an over priced churro. I opted for the Jordan and hot chocolate.
Step 5
While you're waiting for your order, you'll wonder how this place is in business - just how do they cover their rent?
Step 6
mmmm enjoy the churro. Plenty to share between two. The Jordan was exquisitely rich and sweet. It also leaked all over my dress (white chocolate looks really bad smeared on a black dress).
Next time - skip the hot chocolate - it arrived very hot and once I could enjoy it tasted like the hot cocoa you reconstitute with water.
Bottomline: probably worth trying with a friend so you can share an order and not feel so bad about the price or calories. Enjoy!
When i first heard about this place, I was SO excited. In my mind, I was envisioning the piping hot churros dipped in thick chocolate that I remembered from Spain (In Spain, rather than bacon wrapped hot dogs, the Spanish folk love their late night churros after a night on the town), and boy was I let down.
If you've seen "500 Days of Summer," this definitely played out like that split-screen scene of disappointment when I got there.
Sure, this place is in Santa Monica, close to the ocean in a fairly touristy spot--so I should have probably managed my expectations a bit before heading over.
Maybe I was just feeling cheap that night, or maybe I'm just too used to the churros from Costco for under a dollar, but I was definitely a little sticker shocked to learn that the churros here were $4!! $4?!! Sure, I'd pay that much if I was at Disneyland or the movie theater--but this was a casual coffee-shop type place. And really, there's WAAAAY too much sugar in these things, it's like a Diabetes-bomb waiting to explode in your stomach.
I settled on the Dulce De Leche churro, which was not fresh, and waaay too sweet. and not worth the calories. Furthermore, where were the cups of melted chocolate on the menu?! I really don't see how this place can call itself authentic or "Spanish" when really, it's just fancy coated churros that are way overpriced. It would be like if crispy cream sold their jellied donuts for 5x the price of the classic sugar-glazed. It just doesn't make any sense.
If you're craving a churro, stick to the Costco food counter, where you'll find longer, fresh churros and needless to say, a much better value. If trendy over-priced desserts are your thing, then you'll love Xooro!
Bleck.
I was so excited about Xooro! After finding out about them on thrillist, I bookmarked them of yelp and added the address and phone numbers of both the Samo and Weho locations in my phone - you never know which you may be closest too when the urge for a churro hits. Man, was i disappointed.
First, the store is itty bitty. We couldn't find it with the address, the phone number they posted online was hooked up to a fax machine when I called, and after calling the weho location and getting nowhere, we had to ask a samo-segway-guide for directions all to find out they don't open until 1 p.m. (a different hour than on their website). That's after most people go back to work from lunch! We walked around until they opened and stepped into the seemingly unmanned shop.
This was one of the biggest let downs since Mrs. Beasley's cupcakes. My friends and I tried the Jordan's Special which came dripping in the sweetest chocolate sauce imaginable. Between three of us, we managed maximum two bites each and had to throw the rest away. I like dessert and I like sweet, but I cannot handle something that causes multiple cavities and sugar-induced-shaking upon first bite.
I think I need to see a dentist.
One word...boo :(
Boo on enticing you with yummy, sugary, gooey treats and giving you something that tastes like a candy bar melted on the hood of a car (that is if you are one of the lucky ones that actually gets theirs heated, otherwise it is chilled too long and rock hard). Boo on nonexistent staff who when do show up can not muster enough stamina to make a churro within a 5-10 minute window. Boo for not being knowledgeable about any drinks on the menu.
I wanted to like this place and what I thought would be desserty goodness, but after two experiences, I can't condone what is going on here. Get a churro from the friendly man at the pier, get a churro shake from Counter, even go to an Americanized Mexican restaurant ...but do NOT pay $4.29 for a crappy "gourmet" churro, upsetting service, and attitude to boot :( Even if someone you know just wants to try it...run away :P
btw - my best churro ever. Back home in NYC wondering down to Chelsea on a Sunday morning a little girl was selling them with her family before church. I became a regular. If you are walking down 7th Ave on the way to the Market definitely stop :)
I agree with Kelley B. (on the quality) and Cheryl B. (on the service). I would give Xooro 1 star, but I reserve that grade for truly awful places (which Xooro isn't). I walked into the store, and I was kind of excited. They had a bunch of churros available--with different fillings--peanut butter, chocolate, and so on. Churro was the only thing they really featured. The interior was very minimalist, and it seemed to be all about the churro. I thought that this was going to the best churro I ever tasted.
I got a churro filled with caramel. It came out quick, and it wasn't too expensive. The churro was a decent size, but it was not as long as other churros I've had. I was actually pleased that the caramel was light. I was afraid it was going to be too rich and thick. Not only was the caramel light though, it was kind of bland. The whole churro was bland. I didn't even finish it. You can get a better churro at a USC or UCLA football game or even at Rubio's. Xooro's churro does beat the churros at Baja Fresh (those are the worst I've ever had).
In terms of the service, it was quick. And while the server was not rude, she was definitely not friendly. I doubt that I will be coming back.
I wanted to like this place...I wanted to like this place soooooo bad. I am a churro fiend and I was more than excited about trying their variety.
I was super curious, since they seem to have so many different choices. they were certainly expensive, but I was willing to give it a shot. I ordered the dulce de leche churro--ouch--$4!
Little did I know I was ordering Diabetes on a stick. Yikes! The churro itself (though "freshly" made) was kinda stale and room temperatured. The dulce de leche was soooo sweet, and the churro itself was dipped in white chocolate to boot. I know, what did I expect? While they have a picture of this churro on the menu board, i'm overdue on my eye exam and I need new contacts, so I didn't know that the churro was coma inducingly sweet.
I was really unimpressed. Xooro indeed is a great concept--but it's just terribly overdone.
What is wrong with the service at this place???? The one employee working today was expressionless. She did not greet us when we entered the store (we were the only people there), did not ask us if we had any questions (it was our first time and we weren't sure what to order), and did not say anything more to us other than the total cost of our order. Some people came in a few minutes after we placed our order. She looked straight at them and then back at her work. No "I'll be right with you" or "sorry for the wait." When our order was ready, she handed it to us with no eye contact. She did not smile once. It was obvious she did not want to be there, but come on, at least be polite! It was also strange that the person taking the orders and running the cash register was the same person putting the churros (xooros?) together.
On to the food. The Jordan's Special has Nutella in the middle and chocolate on the outside. That part was good, but the churro itself seemed a bit stale. How disappointing is that! We were hoping that at least the food would be better than the service, but it wasn't. The boxes they come in are cute though. I'm willing to try it again (maybe the churros were off today) but if the service doesn't change, I won't return. I'm disappointed I can't recommend this place, because I was truly expecting to enjoy it. 1.5 stars rounded up to 2 (2.5 stars for the food, minus 1 star for the service).
My voice will be herd. I have to get this place to at least a 3 star rating
I have read reviews where my fellow Yelpers complained that their churros tasted like cardboard. I think I know what's going on here.
The churros are served to you in there own little brown cardboard tubes.
PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE CHURROS OUT OF THEIR CARDBOARD TUBES BEFORE YOU EAT THEM!
That can be the only explanation I see.
I have been here a few times now and have tried every churro on their menu. All of them were delicious. All their hot chocolates are superb as well. My only problem with this place is that it is expensive. I drop 20 bucks every time my GF and I have been here. I guess it's my fault that I always get 2 churros but if you know me one is never enough.
Come on Yelpers, help me get this place at least a solid 3 rating.

I think Yelp got this one wrong. I know that this may be a blasphemous thing to say but I feel that… Read more »
MY WHAT?! I cannot believe a place like this could exist! I was visiting my cousin who attends UCLA a few months ago and as we were passing the store after visiting the Santa Monica pier... she had heard reviews in magazines about a "boutique churro" place and the storefront is adorable, so we just had to go in.
It's a "restaurant" prounounced "sure-oh" that is completely dedicated to making "Spanish fritters." According to the website, don't call them "churros." Psh, I will call them churros if I want to.
There were lots of choices, but we settled on a peanut butter and milk chocolate-covered fritter. It was oozing peanut butter from the inside and very crunchy on the outside. It's not your typical churro and I was unimpressed. First of all, it's about 8 inches long (I'm used to at least 12 inches of churro goodness) and the texture isn't great! Instead of being chewy and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, it was hard and tasted stale! There were also only two tables in the whole place so we awkwardly hovered a table that was getting ready to leave. Boo.
Definitely worth it to try once and tell all your friends about it as they gasp in disbelief that an establishment like this not only exists, but is thriving and opening a new location soon, but replay value is low. I think I'll stick with $1.00 churros at Costco.
Our cute night in Santa Monica after Sushi Roku landed us at a place called Xooro, pronounced "Sure-Oh", though I don't think I could find a linguist on the planet who would agree with that statement.
The food was pretty tasty. But it was expensive, and frankly, the words "spanish fritter" are just uptown for churro. And I love the churro. And it does not need to be up-towned. So I docked some stars for the discrimination on the churro and the price.
The taste though is great -- had a Jordan which was a nutella filled CHURRO with white chocolate on the outside. Yum! Almost as good as a crepe. Almost.
I would probably stop in here again if wandering the Santa Monica world, though it would probably not be a destination. It's not something you get in the car and drive 30 minutes from downtown LA to get, but if you're around, it's worth a hello.
First of all, coated churros are a brilliant concept! As other Yelpers have mentioned, these little babies are quite pricey however it sure is worth it. If you're looking for your typical, 'street churro,' do not come to Xooro. It is completely different. The texture of the 'xooro' is much harder and not so soft inside but the various coatings make up for it. I've tried the Tiramisu and Peanut Butter Chocolate. They are both really good.
I have to give Xooro props for coming up with a novel idea, especially when it comes to dessert. It's a nice alternative to your crepes, frozen yogurt, cupcakes, and other typical desserts that you may find in Santa Monica. Xooro is now my go-to dessert place in this vicinity.
4 stars for innovativeness and tasty treats. If only the price was right, maybe a fifth star. But, not this time!
Forget ice cream! My new favorite treat is definitely Xooro!
I always get the white chocolate coconut. It's heavenly!!
It's the least heavy compared to the other flavors I've tried. Some of the other ones like the dulce de leche, Jordan, and Tiramisu have given me stomachaches but the white chocolate isn't as rich.
I see a lot of people think they're over-expensive but compared to the ice cream shops around the promenade Xooro is not expensive at all. It's incredibly filling and satisfying so you get your moneys worth.
These churros are soo good.
At first I thought that these churros were going to be too sweet for my taste, but I like the fact that you can get different types of churros with different types of fillings.
My favorite one was the Peanut Butter Lover churro, which is a churro with peanut butter in the middle, and then peanut butter on the outsie with cholate drizzle. The peanut butter filling was soo gooey and warm, and then the chocolate drizzle on top, made it perfect.
I would definately recommend this place!
There seems to be a lot of haterade for Xooro and I'm so confused.
The girls and I needed a sweet snack. Our spirits were a bit low after watching a horrible movie. My Foodie Fashionista Buddy Bear recommended Xooro and I trust her.
The inside reminded me of Pinkberry, maybe it's just me. You order at the front for what seems like an upscale churro. I'll be honest, I've never had a real authentic churro. So I had no expectations. I didn't do the let's compare Xooro to a REAL churro. First off, I don't play that way. I'm really just about taste at first bite.
I ordered the pistachio with dark chocolate. The churro is not small. Seriously, why are we expecting super-size-me desserts??? That's not healthy for anyone. It's the perfect size for a dessert. The chocolate was just a little melty. My mouth filled with crispy dough, melty chocolate and pistachio flavor. I loved it. There was nothing not to love. Eating my churro too quickly was my only complaint. I think I licked chocolate off the wax paper my churro came in.
The churros reminded me of doughnuts. I had a d*mn good doughnut.
I'm surprised with the reviews but I really have to say ... these things are awesome!!! If I had to choose between a Sprinkles cupcake and these churros?!! CHURROS!
I had the Nutella and White Chocolate one. It was good! The churro was crunchy and perfectly chewy oozing with Nutella. Friendly staff ... I look forward to going back.
This has to be one of the best churros around, next to Disneyland's.
I absolutely LOVE Xooro. As a gluten free patron, the servers have been extremely helpful in informing me that EVERY SINGLE CHURRO can be made gluten free! I saw in another review that somebody complained about the wait -- well the wait is only because the churros are made fresh!
The churros may be expensive but they are so delicious that I really don't mind paying a little bit more. I really appreciate the servers' help in choosing gluten free items and will definitely continue to frequent Xooro whenever I'm in Santa Monica.
My suggestion: place your order, tell them you will be back in an hour, and take a nice walk along Ocean Drive or 3rd Street Promenade. Take advantage of the beautiful L.A. weather and get outside!
Yummmm.
The place is small with just 2 tables to sit and eat.
While they do have a set menu, the churros are made to order which means that you can customize them how you like them.
It was my first time there and I had a hard time deciding because they all looked so yummy. Also, many of their churros have tons of stuff on the outside which made them look overly sweet.
Thus, I chose the original with almond creme filling. It was soooo warm and yummy.
The creme was light and not overpowering.
I also got the "Mexican" hot chocolate. That was super yummy. It was thick and creamy and had cinnamon in it which was the perfect added touch!!
Yes, the churros are smaller than the usual street vendor size.
It is a bit pricey. Churro = $3.40, Hot Chocolate $3.50... but I think that's just normal for a trendy treat shop in LA.
Note: There is no street parking on Broadway. Thus, finding parking around the place can be a little annoying.
I'll be back to try their other flavors!!
TERRIBLE. Seriously, I've never felt such anger towards any food establishment, ever.
First of all, they were out of the first two churros I ordered. How can you be out of churros? It's like what, 3 cents worth of dough that you drizzle 9 cents worth of chocolate on? Don't you buy like, 800 pounds of this crap and make thousands? They're not freaking truffles you have to go trek through the forest and have pigs smell out. It's dough.
Second, they put EVERY SINGLE churro in it's own personal mail tube. What a waste. It's ridiculous to package each product individually, especially in this day and age, knowing the poor state of the environment. A little awareness please. What do you think we do with trash, ship it to the moon? No, we live with it.
Third, it costs $10 dollars for 2 churros. Churros are $2 at any fair.
Most importantly, the churros were GREASY, COLD and STALE. Let me repeat...GREASY, COLD and STALE. If they want to market their product as being the first, cold churro that's actually delicious, fine. I wouldn't be mad even if I thought it tasted like crap. But they don't. One of the best things about churros is that they're served hot and fresh. This should be of utmost importance to any food establishment - serve items the way the customer expects them. That means, serve churros warm.
Last but not least ("the cherry on top" or rather, "the cold, greasy icing on the xooro churro"), the staff was not very friendly. I mean, on top of it all, c'mon. No really, I don't get it.
It was fun ordering it.
questions: how long are they?
cashier: *measures with his hands...they're about 6 inches long.
(I smile)
question: and how thick? what kind of filling do you have?
(I smile)
cashier: stops and smirks...the white or brown?...
--
I had the chocolate and original no filling....*sigh...I would rather go to costco...that is all...
--
the churros look phallic!! there, i said it!
When most Southern Californians think "Churro," they think Disneyland. If you are from the 909/951 area codes, you may also think "L.A. County Fair." If you are from Tijuana, you may think, "I make these at home, what the heck is the big deal?"
Xooro (pronounced Shoo-ro) Churros are quite different from all three. For starters, they come in all sorts of flavors; you can pick an outside and an inside flavor. They are also significantly shorter than the 14-inchers we're all used to eating. They are suspiciously lengthed at around 5 to 7 inches, so cover your mouth during consumption lest an expert Photoshopper lurks nearby with a camera.
With the disclaimer out of the way, Xooro Churros are quite delicious. What they lack in length they reconcile in flavor. Mine was almond something or another on the outside and creamy white chocolate on the inside. As a proponent of white chocolate, I had to give it a test run on the churro. It is, alas, too sweet for the overall dessert configuration, and overwhelms the flavor (and somehow, the texture) of the churro itself. The dark chocolate is more complementary and brings out the notes of the churro.
The decor is a bit lackluster. It appears to strive for pinkberry-esqe minimalist, modern, and trendy, but is a bit too bare and presumptuous with it's t-shirts, hats, and other miscellaneous merchandise. It doesn't appear to receive much patronage, but I would like to see Xooro do well and contribute to LA's general lack of unique desserteries.
I had imagined Xooro to be a place to get authentic Spanish churros (a fecally curled, thinner version of the Mexican ones), but the pictures in this review clearly indicate otherwise. Should've Yelped first! They were tasty nonetheless. Enjoy, and remember to cover your mouth while consuming.
Happy eating!
Though I was really excited about trying out a specialty churro, I was underwhelmed by my experience at Xooro. First, the place was completely empty and I thought it was closed -- it just wasn't welcoming at all. Then, they were out of a few things I was interested in on the menu (both drinks and churros), and then the churro itself, though it looked impressive, just wasn't that tasty. I wish it were hotter, though I understand that the filling may melt too much if it were, and overall, I just wasn't impressed with the taste, quality or service.
What's with the righteous indignation here? Could it be that not all churros are of the Mexican type we're so used to seeing in LA? It seems ironic that people could sneer at one foreign food because it doesn't resemble another...
I had a nutella-filled churro with icing. I thought it was great. It was $4.20, which seems a little steep, but hey, Pinkberry's just around the corner and it serves a pretty mediocre product for a higher price.
XOORO is such a neat concept... except I feel that it's one of those things that's great in theory, but falls short in reality. We've had dessert here twice, and both times were hoping for something more. The first time we dined here I had the Jordan special, which is filled with nutella, rolled in white chocolate, and drizzled with chocolate sauce and it was pretty good (not great) and the second time I had the triple chocolate, which was a little bit better, but still not great. My husband tried the caramel pecan churro, and was really disappointed. I want to like this place but the desserts are just not that good and incredibly over priced.
The place looked great so me and a co-worker of mine stopped by to see how those tube shaped treats tasted. We orded the one with the Nutella inside.
Long story short, it was probably the most sweetest thing I ever tasted. Was so sweet that we had to order water after to wash it all down our throat.
If you've got a sweet tooth then this place probably will satisfy your cravings.
Biatch.
I ordered the peanut butter white chocolate churro from the Spanish lady behind the counter.
Not your normal Spanish lady, mind you, nor is she Mexican. She's a blonde chick, and I think she's the owner, by the way she was talking to the staff. She had some real attitude taking my order. She cut me off in mid-speech, did not answer some of my questions (I'm assuming she gets tons of questions because she has a new concept business going), and barked at her helpers.
It took eight minutes to get my hot dog sized snack. Which isn't tooooo long.
If it were only worth eight minutes of scrumptiousness.
But no, I found it to be a bit overpriced traded for taste value. It wasn't so much the taste that I savored and what made me finish eating it, but that it was loaded with so much fat content and my natural fat-guzzling instincts kicked in. I ate the whole thing and felt pretty nauseated.
Anyone here have Jollibee? It's the same kind of kickback--you only really eat it because it's so fattening, but it doesn't taste all yummy.
Had it once, nice novelty, but would not go back again. Pobrecita biatch!
I really wanted to like Xooro, I really did.
I first heard of Xooro via Daily Candy. The idea of a specialty shop for Churros made my heart flutter - it was like a Pinkberry for Churros!!! I anxiously anticipated the summer opening, when I could enjoy my super-awesome chocolate filled churros, drizzled with nuts or coconut, alongside some delicious hot cocoa! The idea of the place excited me, because a warm churro and some hot cocoa on Ocean Avenue sounds like a great night on the Promenade.
My first visit was a somewhat nervous one. The decor is Pinkberry-esque with all white walls and a modular design (reminds me of the tops of Lego pieces), with sparse modern furniture. The overall vibe is more stark than modern, especially since the cashier is tucked away in the corner, and all aspects of the kitchen are hidden behind the gunmetal gray walls. (Are they keeping Xooro secrets back there??? Why can't I see my churro before it's served???)
The churros themselves are indulgent and delicious, but are pretty heavy, even for people with a sweettooth. Also, they are nowhere near worth the $4-5 you pay for them.
My subsequent visits have been more of the same - beginning with a general feeling of awkwardness in an almost always empty restaurant, and ending with disappointment and dashed hopes that "this time, it could be different".
I return and always hope it will be better than I remembered, but so far, Xooro has not proved me wrong.
I still want to like you, Xooro, but I think it is a bad fit.
Basically these are super bad ass yummy churros that are too small and overpriced. I love them, they are delicious! Most of them have a filling and can be dipped in various chocolate toppings, etc. But even though they are rich I need to eat like 3 of them to even get close to satisfying my sweet craving. Also at $4+ ea they are very expensive for what you get.
Here I was again!!
First 2 slices at Joe's pizza and finishing with something sweet. I really love this place.
As usual my friends and I are on the move to find the worlds best sweets. And definitely this is one of our fav's. I love churros, and we love this "new" concept of churro.
You have many choices ranging from the Original (rolled in cinnamon) to Nutella - Pistachio or Tiramisu.
Our churros yesterday were Turron w/Dark Chocolate and Tortoise with dulce leche inside & chocolate with pecans the outside.
To dieeeee for!!!
We also had Mexican Hot Chocolate. It was piping hot, and sprinkled with cinnamon. A great pairing with the churros....
I'll be coming back for sure.
BTW: the guy at the counter he's really GOOD looking :)

Gluten Free churros?!? SCORE! Warm, delicious, melty, sugary, crunchy, sweet, delicious, gluten-free. That is all.
I was at Joe's Pizza and decided to try this place with a friend. I had the white chocolate coconut one and it was pretty good. Very unique dessert.
I'd eat here again.
I really wanted to like Xooro. I had read about its opening in Daily Candy and I usually like places they feature. Plus, Xooro is so darn cute. But no.
I walked over one night after yoga and there was not a single person in sight. One lonely guy was working the cashier and took my order. I had the Jordan's Special - a churro filled with nutella. The cashier accepted my money and then disappeared behind the counter. Poor guy, he was doing double or triple duty.
The churro is made to order and comes in a small tube (like a kaleidescope) which is pretty nifty. I took one bite and nutella came streaming out. I looked a hot mess with a brown blob on my chin and 10 napkins. It was a little bit out of control. Churros, goood. Nutella, gooood. So you can't go wrong, right? Well, it was yummy for 2 bites. Too sweet for my buds.
I might come back and ask them to use half the normal amount of Nutella.
2.5 stars.
After hearing about Xooro in a DailyCandy email months ago, I finally made it down to Santa Monica to try it out, and my first visit didn't disappoint. My sister and I ordered some churros to go, and they were presented to us fresh and piping-hot. The churro itself had a nice crunchy texture to it. My personal favorite: the Tortoise, coated with dulce de leche, white chocolate, and pecans.
While I wish I got a little more churro for my buck, I honestly don't know if I could handle a bigger churro since they're already so rich and excessively sweet as it is. And anymore candy coating and you're in cavity and/or diabetes territory. Each churro is filled and coated with a ton of stuff, though the final product still lacks that slathered-n-drenched look that their menu shows, which is so misleading! To-go orders are packaged in cute little cardboard tubes, making it perfect for noshing while sitting in traffic on the 405.
Really clean. Super friendly service. Cool, trendy decor.
We had 2 churros and a hot chocolate...all of which were really tasty...albeit on the sweet side.
It's a bit pricey and understandable considering the location and the effort that goes into making one. I'm pretty sure that they make them fresh and to order.
In regards to desserts, I'll take quality over quantity any day!
I loved this place! My bf and I decided to have dessert after our mediocre dinner at The Yard. It was a few stores down, and looked like one of those trendy dessert places like Pinkberry or Rice to Riches. It had a nice white interior with the word "xooro" plastered all over the walls and modern furniture. The owner of the place (who was obvious a nice looking Spanish woman) was sitting behind us with some family friends, and I guess she was ok with me taking pictures of the churro!
I was surprised to know that these were churros. When I read the outside as I briskly walked by, I thought it said "banana fritters", but I was pleasantly surprised that it was similar to those churros I saw in Spain.
These churros can be filled with different things like white or dark chocolate and even NUTELLA (Yum! My fave!). I had the Jordan's Special (it was a whoopin $5.45 with tax!), which was a churro with nutella filling and dark and white chocolate plastered all over the outside. SOOO DELICIOUS!
I'm giving this place 4 stars because of the high prices and the sweetness....
I would come back here again if I'm in the area, as this is another new, unique place to get dessert....
