All of us at work order lunch here on Thursdays and we LOVE the food - especially the meatballs and the chicken sandwich. :o) The food is healthy and the owner and staff are all about customer service!
We discovered that calling in the order a day ahead works best since they are very busy. (Good for them!)
This place is perfect for take-out! :o) -

Under no circumstances can you go there. I went in for the first time to try it out. The owner and a friend/customer where in there. I asked if she had items without garlic as I am allergic to it. The owner and her friend started to ridicule me and laugh. "Who is allergic to garlic?""I guess a vampire". I didn't think it was funny and explained that this happens a lot. Was it a peanut or shell fish allergy people take it serious but garlic, I've been through this many times and I just don't think it's funny anymore. Finally I said can you make me lunch or not and she says "it depends". At that point I am out the door and I will not come back and I urge anyone who got food allergies to avoid this place like it's the pest unless of course you would like to be made fun off or get a terrible allergic reaction.
Probably one of my worst experiences if not the worst. -

Smells like Chinese food.
...wait, what!?! That looks like Italian food!
Huh!?!
***Harmonie pauses to Yelp-search the restaurant in which today's company lunch is catered by***
Oh, I see! It's one of those Asian fusion places.
***Harmonie runs up to the dishes and begins annoying her co-workers with endless "is this vegan?" questions***
Oh, I see! These items are not on the menu but custom-made to accommodate all the different dietary differences in our staff. Very cool!
***Harmonie grabs a plate and piles the following on her plate: a spring mix salad with red cabbage/nuts/red grapes (...hmm, that sounds weird...but wait, it's tasty!), cooked veggies with bok choy/kale/broccoli/baby carrots (ooo, me likey), and linguine with string beans/spinach/broccoli/carrots/zucchini (mmm...carbs!)***
Yum!
***Harmonie goes back for seconds***
***A co-worker goes back for thirds***
Aww boo...no leftovers for tomorrow!
The moral of the story: I dig it. I will eat it if served to me. I just wouldn't imagine myself going out of my way to order takeout. But A-OK!!! I actually give it 3.5 stars :)Listed in: Feed Our Staff!

No. This review is not about wearing a red corset with a matching garter and getting kinky in someone's Thai decorated kitchen. Not that kind of exotic and definitely not that kinda kitchen! X'otic Kitchen is the local restaurant we call to order healthy, organic and flavorful lunch.
Their portions are a bit on the small side. But I think my perception of food portions have been skewed lately given that my company has a tendency to order from Cheesecake Factory, Jerry's Deli and Versailles whose portions are huge and almost always provide us with leftover for two days. They like getting the most bang for their buck. But, I digress. Back to X'otic Kitchen.
The dishes have a homemade feel to them, as opposed to factory made, processed junk.
All their meals come with a choice of two sides:
Garlic sauteed mixed vegetables
Steamed vegetables
Indonesian rice
Rosemary roasted potatoes
Shredded carrot & cabbage salad with citrus dressing
My opinions:
The baked Pita chips and fresh salsa ($2.75) are my favorite. They're a must when ordering from here. The salsa is tangy and with just the right amount of spice that anyone can enjoy. The pita chips are baked at the perfect temperature and amount of time. Golden!
Meals:
Indian spiced chicken with steamed vegetable and rosemary potatoes ($9.95). It was decent, but what threw me off was that the rosemary potatoes were a bit dry and overcooked. You know me, it's kinda hard to get me in the mood again, once I've been disappointed.
Quarter chicken ($7.45) with same sides as above (i know, i never learn). Chicken is chicken. It was decent. I don't remember hating it.
Skirt steak sandwich ($8.95) includes "Nebraskan grass fed beef" (i swear that's what it says on the menu), romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and basil on home baked panini bread. Wow. These people are hardcore about their organic picks. As they should be! This sandwich is one of the best things I've tried on their menu. It's size is perfect -- small enough to hold in your hand, but big enough to satisfy a hunger like mine. Uhm, is it getting hot in here? *fans self*
So, if you're in Culver City and want to have a healthy, organic lunch, consider X'otic Kitchen. Now, for your kinky red lingueri fix, go find it somewhere else! Unless, well, the bus boy or cook are into that kind of thing.Listed in: Culver City/Westside Gems

3.5 stars rounding down.
I really like X'otik cafe, the food is simple and straight forward. I realize they are a catering business first... and I respect that. But It's frustrating as a customer to always be told they're not open because of catering, when i'm hoping to order a simple quick meal on the way home from work. The last 4 times i've tried to order they've been closed for catering.
I'm glad they're doing good business as a catering company though. But please X'otik if you read this try to find a way to either update your website daily, or via twitter, or voicemail!
That said the coconut curry chicken was quite yummy albeit a little bit tough. I wasn't a fan of the lemon chicken. I hope to try the coconut fish the next time the're open. -

OK, I have a confession - I've never actually been inside X'otik Kitchen BUT I've had it's delivery several times. I often order from them when working in Culver City and the food is consistently yummy!
My dish of choice is the Spinach & Cheese Ravioli w/ the olive oil, garlic, & parmesan cheese although you can also order it w/ marinara sauce. It's light enough for lunch time but keeps you filled until dinner. I like to order the ravioli with either a side of grilled plantains (so good you could have them for dessert), the mashed sweet potatoes, or the field green salad w/ citrus dressing. They also carry Glaceau drinks for those, like me, that are addicted to Smart Water and Vitamin Water.
I have yet to be disappointed by X'otik and I know that it's always a popular choice when I mention I want to order from them. The name explains it all because their menu options really are exotic!Listed in: Top of the Chops

Review from Sandie B.
I really, really, REALLY wanted to like this place. Noticed it when I walked by during the Culvery City artwalk a few weeks ago, and it seemed pretty busy and people were eating some pretty tasty looking chicken. A friend and I made a special trip back, since we'd both been thinking about it, and while in line, met some neighborhood devotees of the place who were raving about everything. "You can't go wrong with anything you choose on the menu," is what one girl told us. So we were excited.
I ordered the citrus chicken, and when it came, it looked okay, but was sort of Koo Koo Roo-ish in size and pretty dry. The side of rice (which someone told us was a meal in itself) was bland and boring. (And I'm from the midwest, so I have insanely high tolerance for bland.) The slaw was probably the best part, but still unremarkable.
My friend got the Indonesian (?) chicken, and had the same reaction. We went to the Sparks game afterwards and chowed down on popcorn to make up for it. -

Delicious food. OK price. Friendly staff. Not good for groups.
The tiny store only has 3 barstools looking out to the street. this place is more of a caterer. i bought a http://restaurant.com gc from here that entitles me $25 of value for $35 of dine-in food.
The British lady let us Carry Out, which was great for everyone - less dishes to wash for her, and we get to eat comfortably at home.
The Sumatra chicken $10.95 was the tastiest. For the choice of two sides, I got the indonesian rice (love the fried onion topping) and garlic sauteed veggies. The country ribs $12.95 were meaty and tasty as well. The rosemary potatoes are pretty good. The Citrus chicken $10.95 is not bad but of the three, it was second runner up.
The plantain chocolate cake is really banana bread made with old plantains. Plantains is a choice of side here, so you know what they do with the ones that aren't so fresh.
Overall a tasty choice for a quiet meal. If you come, leave your entourage at home.

I first discovered this place about a year and a half ago. It was around the corner from my office.
It was good. I liked their grilled veggies and their salads.
However, they are super slow paced here and expensive for what you get.
Lately, when I have ordered anything with chicken and have requested white meat only, they tell me it will be extra and it seems to take them forever to figure out how much on the super slow register.
They serve their chicken with dark meat. Yuk!
Food takes a while too and there is very limited seating- a couple tables outside and a few bar stools inside.
They don't offer a wide selection of beverages to choose from and the food just doesn't taste the same like it use to.
Yes, the portions are small.
I wouldn't really recommend X'Otic if you are hungry and want a really enjoyable meal during lunch.
It is also in a strange location- in between art studios and apartments. -

I first ordered from Xotic because they were open and they delivered. The food was very good, and whom I can only assume was the owner, was very friendly.
Currently they have a "Recession Special" that rotates daily and costs only $5.50. That's an amazing and delicious organic meal for cheap. I highly recommend checking it out; just make sure it's take-out; the restaurant is quite small. -

Definitely best for take out. Simple, delicious, no frills, interesting spices grub. Totally filling and satisfying. $6 daily recession special and a side of farm-fresh veggies is the best deal ever. Refreshing SE Asian spices w/ Cal-Medit prep.

I live right around the corner from this place, it's been pretty consistent for 2 years now. I usually order the Skirt Steak (it's hard to find grass fed beef 'round here). It's always great, that's what I'd recommend. The potatoes tend to be a little crispy or what some call over-cooked. I still enjoy it.
It is a little pricey for the portion size, but it's a real portion, not some claimjumper s**t. I'm still willing to support it as a local business.
The staff there is pretty friendly and cool. Not as quick as some people might want, but the same person ringing you up had a hand in putting your food together. I kinda like that, it's pretty mom and pop. I usually walk in and have to ring the bell to get them out of the kitchen.
I can't vouch for the chicken really, but the pita chips and salsa are GREAT. Great salsa (also hard to find) and perfect pita chips. The shrimp dish and the ravioli dish are also pretty good.
Worth a try if you're in the hood. -

This place is a hidden treasure, forget Culver City!
WOW, Bold taste with organic hand washed vegetables and a generous portion for 10 dollars and under, when we generally think of Organic, we think expensive - not this place they pride themselves on quality and quantity. The owners of this place know FOOD, they know how to enjoy themselves, this is not a sit down restaurant but more like a new york style take out place which makes me happy. If I could choose one phrase for this place, it would be "Authentic Home Cooked Goodness " -

Five Stars for a takeout place? Yes, in that category, Xotik is as good as it gets, easily outstripping other takeout joints in quality, flavor, value, service and variety. Better than a lot of sitdown joints too.
The owners/staff are friendly, brisk and the food is first rate...New York steak Recession Special with mashed potatoes and a side of veggies for $5.50? COME ON!!! Even the regularly priced food is a bargain. Check out their menu on line -- they use fresh organic ingredients whenever possible, they prepare chicken about a half dozen different ways, their cilantro coconut fish fish dish easily beats similar offerings at much more expensive sitdown places. You get a craving for their stuff.
We had them cater our very small (30 people) wedding at home on rather short notice and the food was wonderful!! Chicken satay skewers, salmon mousse bites, spanakopita, and more, they will create something to fit all needs. Definitely consider Xotik for catering as well! Next Culver City artwalk we will use their catering services for our party.
A small business like this with two such great owners deserves to be successful. Not much space for eating in, however. There are a couple tables outside. -

The company I work for orders lunch from here often and I've become a big fan. Savory flavors and totally filling without the guilt. Everything on their menu is oriented towards a healthy and wholesome diet using organic ingredients. I love the X'otik Chicken Salad which is a very fun salad with a bunch of different texures and satisfying crunches from the bok choy, jicama, and crispy wonton noodles. And when I want something a little more hearty I love the Indian Spiced Chicken or Sumatran Chicken (which has a coconut milk curry type sauce). And they deliver! Highly recommended!

To be fair, I often dine here for the daily recession specials which are $6.00 with tax. For a take-out place, this quality of food would easily be a $20.00 value. Their spaghetti and meatballs is a favorite with tasty meatballs, basil and a very tasty sauce. Others have been the organic hamburgers, the steak with indonesian rice and tomatoes, grilled chicken. Great value, great quality of food. The two chefs are amazing and friendly.

Everytime I go to this place, I want to try something new and I do. But it's usually the lunch special. You can't beat $5.50 for a lunch special! The owners are lovely too and they bicker but in a very loving way. I think they must live in the rest of the building. Make sure to leave enough time though since they make everything when you order or just call ahead!

do I sure dread when the company treats us to lunch and my co-workers select this place!!!
its awful. the least awful of the dishes is the cilantro coconut fish, but even that's not good. just a bad mixture of spices and just not very appealing to the eye.
the service, too! slooow. we've used their delivery service once and it was slow and our order was inaccurate. if you opt to actually GO to this location, don't expect a sit-down restaurant. they have a couple tables outside and couple barstools inside, but its just depressing. stacks of to-go containers & ingredient boxes all over the place. it's not very welcoming. They almost never have our food ready on time and there's almost never anyone working in the front, you have to stand around for a while before someone who's out in the back appears.
and their online menu is out of date. prices have since gone up and menu has since changed a bit. but for whatever reason, they don't think its necessary to update their site. -

Soooo I've eaten X'otik dozens of times and have yet to step foot in the actual building despite the fact that I can see it from my window at work. The asian chicken (get the sauce on the side) is very good, as is the skirt steak and vegetable penne. They generally come with a healthy supply of tasty vegetables, so all in all it's a healthier choice than most of the places in the area.

Are you in search of homemade tasting mashed potatoes or slices of perfectly grilled and and marinted beef? this is your place. They might also call your 'darling' while youre there, in their thick British accents. Oh and they cater too which is a huge plus- they can get a huge order ready in less than a few hours notice.

Culver City, CA
I've had lunch at or from X'otik Kitchen eight or ten times and have never been disappointed. For me, the best test of restaurant food that purports to be healthy (e.g. free-range beef/chicken) is how I feel the day after (having digested fully or partially as the case may be). X'otik hasn't let me down yet. They seem to know how to grill veggies to perfection, which in my mind is an art perfected in Mexico... so how do a Chinese/Indonesian and British chef team manage this? Search me, but they do so with real consistency (I think their help is mostly Mexican, too). I would describe this as no-mystery dining, where food is taken seriously... rather like Kosher, but more creative.
True, this is primarily a catering place, which means (attention art enthusiasts visiting the Culver City Art District in which this place is located on Washington a couple of blocks west of La Cienega) it's somewhat of a "find" for those of us not rushing along with our busy filming schedule (on-street parallel parking is no one's favorite). Hey, I get busy working on my computer, so I like being able to eat healthy on short notice (I work a couple of blocks away). My favorite here is the tri-tip sandwich, a savory pile of sauteed beef and grilled veggies in bread that to me is the embodiment of mouth-wateringness. Inhaled!
Those more foo-foo of you who can afford the vitamin water and wow desserts are in for a real treat of a more complete meal, but a sandwich here IS a meal. I'm content with my sandwich or my second-favorite meal XK meal: angel hair pasta with chicken and savory grilled veggie pieces, usually squash works for me (they take side veggie requests, too, depending on what's on hand and in season). This is one place where I'm not finished eating until I've licked my (caution: aluminum) plate, because the seasonings are irresistible, plus as I said the next day I feel stronger because it's real food. Artsy local patrons I've noticed are generally easy on the eyes, too, and it's right next to several galleries.
Thanks, Jane and company. I shall return.
PS: I say it's good for groups on the catering side despite the naysaying reviewer here. Paul Newman would've enjoyed this place and used it. -

This place is a gem. I don't even know what type of cuisine to call it, but it's creative, daring, and unbelievably tasty. Serving primarily chicken dishes but also have everything from vegitarian to beef to shrimp dishes. I am happy to say that they only use free range chicken. Prices are around $10 bucks a plate, which is cheap once you realize how wonderful the food is. While I haven't tried much of their menu, I ordered work lunch from X'otik, and it made 20 people very happy. The staff is wonderful, and about a week after I ordered lunch from them, I got a call from the chef to see if we enjoyed our food. That is beyond customer service. This is primarily a catering/take-out spot, there are a few tables, but be prepared to take it to a park and have a picnic. And make sure you use the restroom before you arrive, because they don't have one for you and the area isn't exactly teeming with public facilities.

This is a great option for fast, fresh and healthy dining. Very Tasty Chicken Salad full of raw veggies, crispy wontons and perfectly grilled chicken, ordered to go, ready in less than 5 minutes. While I waited, read the Onion and a week old LA Times. 20 bucks for lunch for 2 and drinks. Not Bad!

The menu is so multi-cultural (leaning towards Asian fusion). My favorite ? The bak lava! Tastes very authenic. The only thing scarying me off this place from being my second dining room.... Is the price! But to be fair they do have recession specials but it's their choice on what the special is that particular day... Also I think the owners are English. There is always this nice English woman who calls me " love" :)

I have to agree: This place is small, but super big on taste! I have to say their Nebraskan Steak is probably the best steak i've ever tasted. I've practically told the whole world about it. It's just spiced and cooked to perfection. Their homemade desserts are amazing and their refreshments are all new to me (still tastey), since I love trying things new. A lot of things arent in the menu so it deserves a stop over. Everything I've tried from them has always turn out go be great. I'm not a salad eater, but I've tried their Ceasar (homemade dressing btw) and it was excellent! Would love for them to Cater my wedding... whenever that may be....
