Yahoo is a great place to work and a horrible place to work. It's fun and exciting to an insider at a place that makes so much happen. The parties are outrageous and the people are very dynamic.
But they want your blood sweat and tears. Get ready to work your ass off.
It used to be worth it but now they are losing their mojo. They went too corporate, played it too safe, made it too beaurocratic, and it didn't pay off.
And, now, I truly believe that all the good people have flown the coop.
My backbone web resource.
Yahoo was my search engine before Google was invented. It became an email address when I was exploring free email, and was disappointed in the incredible level of spam that HotMail was feeding me.
I love the My Yahoo page, where I filter news categories that interest me, weather, and stocks.
I had a GeoCities web page before Yahoo bought it, and the page is still up today. I discovered Flickr when it wasn't a Yahoo property, but it is now. The same goes for HotJobs, which has been neatly folded into the My Yahoo page. Several real groups I belong to use Yahoo! Groups to keep in touch.
There is a lot to discover in the Yahoo portfolio.

a.k.a. Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web
Don't get it twisted. Yahoo is primarily a web directory. The search engine was added as an afterthought. In fact, Yahoo used a Google powered search engine until 2004. Yahoo is actually based upon Inktomi search technology developed in 1996 by UC Berkeley, and popularized on Hotbot and Infoseek.
Tip: Yahoo (directory) was compiled by actual living breathing humans until 2002. Now it is based on an automated web spider.

This is for the Y! cafeteria. Today I had the turkey burger with provolone, sweet potato fries, and a lychee drink. And then I was just reaching in to pay for my prorated meal when... my friend whips out his badge and swipes it onto his account. Wow fancy Y! You can store money on your badge account and get it deducted so that you never have to carry cash at work. And it's all done via some web based interface. Swanky!
As all big companies do, Yahoo has a fine cafeteria. Lots of selection, fancy drinks, but unlike google you have to pay. It's prorated though so not sooo bad.
This was the first time I had sweet potato fries too. Yum...

Yahoo!...
Just say "no" to the Deathstar of Redmond. The Borg would not look good in purple.
Long live the Purple Palace!

So Yahoo bought Flickr right as I was getting into it, and I had hoped that they weren't going to fuck everything up, as had usually been my experience. Silly me.
I had SBC/Yahoo DSL for a few years, and eventually decided to switch to Comcast. When I did that, Yahoo decided out of the blue to delete all my Yahoo accounts. Now, I haven't liked Yahoo since like, 1999, so my Yahoo address was my spam address, and I didn't use any of Yahoo's own services.
However, I did (and do still) love & use Flickr, but since I no longer had a Yahoo account, I COULDN'T LOG IN TO FLICKR, a service I pay $25/year for. Nothing was deleted, but I was entirely locked out of my Flickr account- no uploading, no tagging, no sets maintenance, nothing. Yahoo was, of course, no help. Eventually I just contacted Flickr directly. They were able to give me an old-skool account that circumvented the Yahoo login, much to my relief.
I had hoped I'd never have to deal with Yahoo again, but eventually Yahoo forced all Flickr users into Yahoo accounts. Unfortunately, I'm too invested in Flickr to dump it, though I do plan to migrate to Zooomr as a backup, because a decade of dealing with Yahoo voluntarily and involuntarily leads me to believe that my stuff isn't safe with them.
OK, who's the wiseass that marked this "funny"?!

Yahoo! Cafeteria: Lunch area was awesome. Vast space, high ceiling, great lighting, and seemed to have a more jovial atmosphere than eBAY's. Free espresso drinks and sodas too, with subsidized gourmet food: deli's and entree's of various cuisines. Thanks to Natasha for showing me around her 'hood of a quick luncheon break.

before yahoo and its peers .. there was alta vista ... was one of the early search engines born in Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) labs .. http://www.websearchwo...
heh, earlier we (used to work there) also had our first 64 bit processor, so fun it was ... but, i guess we were not a mktg shop (where was Nish when DEC needed a fun n hip mktg guy?) ...
yahoo! and google killed altavista ... and now it is just a memory.

What's not to love? Yahoo offers so many products easily accessible to anyone. They have a focus on creating user friendly interfaces so you can get to what you want in a blink of an eye. They have kept true to their fun and youthful brand without succumbing to the evil corporation way.
I won't lie - I use Google and Microsoft products too, but my loyalty resides with Yahoo and always have. The customer service is top notch in my experience so I'm a happy camper. :)
Please note that there are at least two review pages for this service. More people are reviewing it over here, at this older location:

I'm hoping that comments from this page will be relocated to there from here, and that this page will then be deleted, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for this to occur. Wishing that Yelp had a title search, so that less duplication of effort like this would occur.
I thought Yahoo! was the answer to my e-mail needs.. that is, until gmail showed me the light. Still, Yahoo! mail remains a useful tool and I'll keep my address indefinitely.

Ahhhhh...my first email addy(ies). Yahoo has become the cornerstone in online schizophrenia. I wonder just how many BS accounts there are? Very cluttered, very slow, and very gimmicky.

Most finance sites including Etrade, Schwab, etc. don't come close to the functionality and usefullness of Yahoo Finance.
This review is regarding Yahoo Mail. I have it by default for my DSL service and thought I'd just use it since I pay for the service. It used to be ok but now it's gotten worse after all these new upgrades and features they are coming out with. What is up with Yahoo Mail lately!? I use it on Firefox and I frequently get "this page has been reset" http://images15.fotki.... whenever I navigate around my inbox or try to send mail. It's very irritating. Their new beta version is a knockoff of Outlook, which is a nice format but still very slow. I used it for a few weeks but then got tired of waiting for the browser to respond to my clicks and switched back to the old format. One more rant: SPAM! Ughhh I hate SPAM!!!! The SPAM filter doesn't even work. I get it by the hundreds daily and marking them as "SPAM" does nothing. I wish there was an option to only receive mail from folks in your address book. If that is an option, someone please let me know, I probably overlooked it. Hope it'll get better from here...I am more of a google girl now...even their maps are better.
