I had a great lunch here on 7/7/14. I had the Wet Wubba, which is BBQ beef and pulled pork sauced together and topped with deep fried onion straws. It was good!
My coworkers had a tri-tip dip and a hogs back which is pulled pork Sammie topped with cole slaw. If you like cole slaw- and I do- get it here- it's good! My coworker got fries and they looked good as well.
Servers were nice and all smiles- If you're on the east side of Bend, check out WUBBA'S!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 4, 2018
Still searching for top tier BBQ in Bend. It's out there, it has to be.
More so than elsewhere, Wubba's seems like two places: a regular sit-down restaurant with an attached bar. I chose the bar every time. It's fairly small bar with room for a half dozen or so folks to belly up but with a few tables scattered about. There are a few TVs to watch, including a very large one. I noted that just about everyone there was on a first-name basis with the staff. So, a locals bar I guess. Which is fine. Servers are super friendly even if they don't know your name.
The menu comprises a fairly standard selection of BBQ choices and options. Choice of meats, sides, etc.
- Combo with St Louis ribs, chicken and sausage: OK. The ribs were kind of fatty and maybe a little underdone. Sausage comes sliced - not bad, not great. I liked the chicken, although it could have been cooked a bit longer as well. The big problem was the ribs and sausage were drowned in Wubba's standard BBQ sauce, which is way too sweet and they use way too much. After my food was delivered, I was presented with three alternative sauces, all of which were better than the standard but what am I supposed to do about the gallon of yucky sauce already on my plate? Should have ordered dry, I guess. Two of the alternative sauces were billed as spicy - one a habanero pineapple - but neither packed any kind of heat.
- Smoked beans: OK but also too sweet.
- Coleslaw: The best thing on my plate and it was only average coleslaw.
- Solid craft beer tap array. Wubba's does beer right.
Prices are in line with BBQ restaurants, which is to say say too high, especially for average BBQ.
BBQ, like pizza and few other foods, is highly personal. People get in fights over whether Texas or Memphis (to name two) has the better 'que. People will say "There ain't no good Bar-B-Q in the town. Not like in [fill in the name of a town/region]". Sort of like New Yorkers claiming you can't make good pizza outside of NYC because of the water. Right.
So, while Wubba's fare isn't my favorite and I can only give it two stars, I recognize that other people might think it's the bee's knees. Maybe the tri-tip would hit the spot with me.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aug 23, 2018
I highly recommend trying out their brisket! It's tender, juicy, and falls apart easily. Aside from that, everything else started to taste the same after a few bites. This was an average barbeque place, nothing too special. We went in at around 2:30pm and there were only one other group eating there. Maybe it was because of the fires that happened nearby lol.
Im giving it a high review because of the good service! Our server recommended a great tourist spot nearby since we told him were from california. We ended up spending the whole day at that spot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 17, 2018
I know Bend is not known for BBQ so we came to Wubba's with an open mind. The first time, we came for lunch and the second time was for takeout. I liked the restaurant. Our server Trish was wonderful. So far we have tried the kid's burger, the tri tip, the ribs, brisket, grilled chicken and the pulled pork. For sides Mac n cheese and those ahmazing corn fritters.
My least favorite among the meats was the pulled pork. It was bland, tasted old. The tri tip was not what I'm used to. Cut into huge squares, slightly warm, needed more seasoning, a little on the chewy side. It definitely needed the au jus. The ribs fell off the bone and were pretty good. The brisket was fatty, can barely taste the smoky taste. The surprise hit was the grilled chicken. It was delicious, the skin was a little crunchy which I liked. The kiddo loved her burger too and she insisted the Mac n cheese was one of the best she has ever had.
Their servings were ok. Their prices were affordable plus they offer military discount too which was appreciated. Haven't tried the other bbq places in town yet but if you're in the area and craving bbq, this is s good place to eat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 35239368Oct 13, 2017
Ordered the combo plate with pulled pork and quarter chicken. The quarter chicken was pleasantly very juicy despite it being dark on the outside. I loved it. Their barbecue sauce was delicious - right balance of spice and tang.
Ordered the cheesy corn on the side - perfect to compliment the pulled pork.
The tri tip dip sandwich was good too. You can add Swiss cheese for 50 cents and it was worth it.

Called for take out & was informed it would be a 30-35 min wait for take-out..
Not a problem. Got there at 40 min...At least 3 employees passed me(one of them several times) & did not acknowledge me at all. After several minutes, a gal from the bar asked if I'd been helped yet. After telling her "no" & that I had a to-do order, she walked away w/o saying anything. She returned, told me my total & when I pulled out a check(my card was fraudulently used recently), she said she didn't think they took checks..No signage anywhere, walked away and said nope & then walked the opposite direction! Wth?!! A guy came up with my food, apologized, offered me utensils and said he put sauces in. He was the only one who acted accordingly to proper customer service! The brisket was tender, coleslaw was okay & there was ample okra! A plus Food= B+ for this area...Customer service= D- for anywhereHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tony R.Bend, OR1670133413Mar 17, 2017
Bend doesn't really do barbecue, and for barbecue connoisseurs, you'll find that Wubba's is a step down from the Famous Dave's chain. Now I know that Bend has or has had barbecue joints. Baldy's is a Bend staple, but it's Cincinnati-style 'cue (and it's overpriced). The Pickled Pig's out at the airport. It purports to be award-winning, but it's open very few hours a day.
So why four stars? Well, while nothing's truly unforgettable, a lot is pretty good. The few sauces on offer are potent and tasty. They go great on the moist and generous helpings of pulled pork. Chicken's about what you'd get at any barbecue joint.
In the sandwich arena, the Spicier Barn Burner, a sandwich packed with tri-tip, jalapeno, and Pepper jack, is a spicy treat. I add spicy barbecue sauce for a pretty mean sandwich. The Porkin' Hottie tops pulled pork with grilled onions and mushrooms. Again, with some added sauce, it makes for a filling meal.
The seasoned fries are battered and reminiscent of the Rallies and Checkers chains. They're always super crispy. As for other sides, the pit-smoked beans are a small, firm bean with a smoky flavor, but the serving is small, just a ramekin full--not ham hock or bacon. Green beans with bacon are delicious, not too much butter fat swirling around it.
Burgers are consistently good. The Tequila Lime Chicken Breast has a nice lime twist, but at 16.99, I'm not sure it's worth it.
Service is okay. Takeout service is very good. The restaurant is generally clean. Bathrooms are just okay.
All in all, I have a barbecue fix that needs satisfyin' about once a month. Wubba's is just good enough to fill the cravin'.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Amanda V.Santa Ana, CA412154297Jul 22, 2018
Visiting Oregon & craving some bbq so we decided to try this place out. We ordered togo & while we waited for our order, people were constantly pulling up to eat here which we took as a good sign. The place quickly filled up, but the staff was working hard and were very friendly.
Rib plate ($12.99): Your choice of baby back ribs or St. Louis ribs and one side. I chose the baby back ribs with garlic mashed potatoes. The meat was tender & practically falling off the bone. There was also a good glaze on the ribs without being super wet or covered in sauce. They lacked seasoning for me or maybe I could have used some extra bbq sauce on the side for dipping. The garlic mash were mashed red potatoes with a hint of garlic, but a little dry for my liking. Also, could be a little more seasoned.
Pit Master Combo ($14.99): Your choice of two amongst the baby back ribs, St. Louis ribs, tri-tip, chicken or sausage and one side. For this one we went with the St. Louis ribs, chicken & onion straws. The St. Louis ribs were also very tender & easily came off the bone. There was even a nice crust to these ribs since they are dry rubbed. Just a bit under seasoned for my taste. The chicken was an entire breast and surprisingly not dry. I usually prefer wings & thighs but this was a hearty portion cooked well. You gotta get the onion straws! Perfectly crispy, seasoned & not at all greasy.
Tri tip dip ($12.49): Their version of a French dip. The tri tip was a little over, but once you dip it in the au jus, you don't even notice it. The dip melts the cheese a bit more & adds just the right amount of seasoning & juicy tenderness to the sandwich that you need.
Brisket sandwich ($11.99): Classic brisket sandwich on a hoagie. Can't really go wrong. Love the addition of onion straws! Just maybe ask for some extra bbq sauce cause it can be a little dry.
BBQ Club Salad: A simple salad with chicken on a bed of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, bacon & cheese. For the dressing you can choose between ranch, thousand island or balsamic, which we went with. Something light and fresh to cut the bbq!
Overall, decent bbq for the area. I'd come back for the ribs & just remember to ask for some extra bbq sauce for dipping. And you can't forget the onion straws!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Cindy W.Bend, OR270266847May 24, 2016
I LIKE THIS PLACE !!
It's a hidden gem in kind of an industrial part of town.. get one of the tri tip salads .. mine was HUGE with bacon and blue cheese .. THE MEAT WAS GREAT!! They have beer on tap and drinks too ;) enjoyHelpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Erin G.Burlington, NC6629030Dec 22, 2018
This place was, unfortunately, a hit or miss. We've never experienced consistency - some visits the BBQ was spot on and others it was dry.
And as of 12/21/2018, Wubba's on Layton is permanently closed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Clint W.Deschutes County, OR13265188May 1, 2018
Here's the good stuff.... ribs to tri-tip, to brisket.... it's all good. Full bar in the back with 23 tap handles. Fresh ingredients, slow smoked meat at a low temp....tender and juicy. Great unusual sides like the deep fried pickle spears, and pork rinds with beer cheese dip.... this place is a little out of the way. When you drive up it does not look like a bbq place. But oh boy is it ever good!!!!
