Love their food. It's American Chinese but it's quite authenic. Food is fresh and very good quality. I tried all their appetizers, especially love their fried calamari. I tried their seafood paella, huge shrimp, salmon and scallop. Great happy hour too with full size dishes!!! Not salty, everything cooked just right.

Really? I thought theird food is over rated. I suppose it all depends on who's cooking in the kitchen that night. We had some incredibly salty noodles, hot and sour soup is so-so, over cooked chicken... I thought I saw same cooks from PF Chang's here. Just kidding.
Excellent. The food. The interior. The ambiance. The service.
So far almost everything I've tried is good.
Items I'd recommend:
*Shrimp cigars
*hot and sour soup
*Mongolian beef
*Black bean Chicken
*Garlic noodles
*Flourless Chocolate Cake
*Banana Spring Rolls
good food. great fried rice & calamari.
crappy service when i went.
nice atmosphere.

My favorite place to eat! Everything is so delicious! Clean, great service, and excellent apple tart! Anyone I have ever taken there loves it too. I highly recommend this place, and I am very picky!
Exellent food, exellent service! Our server, Jesse, was very helpful in our choice of entree and appetizer. We also enjoyed a personal visit from the manager on duty (I believe his name was Robert.) Both made our visit very pleasant.

Alright. I'm a Chinesey Traitor. I went to W's and thought it was pretty damn good. I had a glass of Merlot if anyone thinks that affects my judgment.
The place was relatively empty for a Friday night at 10. I booked my table through opentable so I could get my points. We got seated right away and our waitress brought us this plate of what looked like Chinese Nacho chips with sweet and sour sauce. This HAS to go against everything I believe in but what gives. I was hungry.
The peppery beef was delish as was the velvety shrimp (how nasty does that sound.. or am I a perv?). Prices can be compared to PF Chang's only W's is not as gross and disgusting as they are. We ordered the chicken satay and the two entrees and had more than enough to take home. She even packed us extra rice for no additional charge.
Oh and FREE VALET! The valet guy was so sweet. He said I looked gorgeous and hoped I came back again. He was a hot tamale himself. Couldn't be a day over 18 but hell I like them young. In fact 18 may be too old. Just kidding ..or AM i? Mwahahaha. Keep me away from your children.
update: 9/9/2007
I had an incident here and I emailed the manager. Robert M. (the manager) was very generous and offered me a gift certificate or another experience at the restaurant. I genuinely liked the food so I went again.
I had the beef, fiery fish, and orange chicken. Service was more than excellent. Alan (our waiter) was on it. Robert gave us the most orgasmic chocolate cake EVER. This was a panty dropper yo.

Americanized Chinese food that Asians will also enjoy. This bistro looks like a mini PF Chang's, but is less salty and tastes waaay better.
Everything I've tried has been delicious: shrimp cigars, hot and sour soup *gulp*, honey walnut shrimp and the best mongolian beef EveR. Don't forget to leave room for the banana spring rolls.
And being only blocks from the beach, this restaurant is great before or after a day at the beach.
Ahhh.. I love LA
The mapo tofu here is just wrong. Try it, and you'll think, "Is this what the world has come to? Did they add all of these vegetables and leave out the pork just because they needed a tofu dish in the vegetable section of the menu? Did they put asparagus in because it's supposed to be a nice restaurant? And has the spiciness been reduced to a whisper because of all the white people that will be eating here?"
Ok, so I like mapo tofu a lot. Their recipe is a sad, sad joke that represents everything that is wrong with the so-called "ethnic" restaurant category. Get a plane ticket if you have to (except you don't). Aside from that, why only three points? Extremely slow service, dirty cloth napkins, and just not being especially good. When you come in, they bring a plate of greasy fried wonton skins to munch on...kind of a bad sign.
I'm torn. WS china bistro, you confuse me, and make reviewing you hard. Why? There is a huge part of me that cares about eating a genre of food in an honest, location. Like eating tacos from a taco truck NOT from taco bell. Or like eating Chinese food somewhere in the San Gabriel Valley, not P.F. Changs.
Then there is the part of me, that says, "whats wrong with a good meal in an americanized place that's not too expensive and offers tasty food, even if its not authentic?"
WS china bistro is indeed much like P.F. Changs, but better, less impersonal and far better preparation.
Parking is free out back in their lot. Dimly lit, dark woods, booths and a couple tables that are too close together, the servers wearing white shirt and tie.
The menu is broad with varying types of food, from noodles to hot spicy beef, sesame chicken, pot stickers, eggrolls etc.
All in all it was a good meal, in a relaxed setting, the service was zero pressure, but not inattentive, (until the end of the meal).
That being said, I had a good meal it was tasty, and I enjoyed it.
I might not seek this place out, but its a good option in the Redondo area.

I had a strange dream a few days prior which included a lot of strange characters - the strangest being a hankering to eat won ton soup and vegetable dumplings.
So, in taking Heather R.'s advice I went for won ton at W's and was happy to see veggie dumplings on their menu.
I phoned in the order and it was ready in about 10 minutes for pick-up. The soup was full of good things, though the won tons weren't your typical thick skinned won tons. In a way was good but then again...different isn't always better.
so why three stars after eating that luscious chicken, shrimp, veggie and thin skinned won ton soup? two words: veggie dumplings.
they were absolutely THE WORST veggie dumplings I have ever eaten and believe me- If I'm eating Chinese food and they are on the menu I am sure to order them. these dumplings were more like gyoza, thin skinned and steamed so much that they were falling apart. I was extremely disappointed.
And since the soup was good but different and the dumplings tasted nasty I guess I'll be on the lookout for some other Chinese food place to fulfill my dreams.
oh, a plus for all the green folk out there- they put their takeout in recyclable containers.

I've lived in the South Bay since 1967. Besides the San Franciscan in Torrance, the Hibachi (now in Hermosa), Ercoles and Fleming's in Manhattan Beach...W's is the only restaurant where we feel like an excellent meal awaits us...and I don't even like Chinese food. Enjoy!

It is okay here. Vibe is good and the decor is cool.
Food is ok.
I am not crazy about over deep fried fatty chicken pieces in my Asian chicken dishes, but that is what they do here.
Why can't they just use boneless and skinless white meat chicken in all of their chicken dishes?
They do make the best desert and we come in just for their Florentine cookie basket with homemade ice cream...soooo good!
But check at the beginning of the meal-because they only make a certain amount each day and the last couple times we have gone, they have ran out!
Not expensive either which is ok.

Now I'm stingy with the 5 stars, but this food was great. My boyfriend and I got a bowl of hot and sour soup, pot stickers, honey walnut shrimp, and orange chicken. All of it was very good, however i have to say the orange chicken was my favorite, with the honey walnut shrimp a close second. We got all this food for 40 bucks and had quite a bit left over.
A few other notes:
- we got our food to go and went in to the restaurant looking scrubby with basketball shorts and sweatshirts and such. the diners were all dressed pretty nicely so we felt a bit out of place, but the staff was still extremely courteous.
- when we went to pick up our to go order they quoted us 30-35 minutes but it ended up taking 45. not a big deal since the atmosphere was pleasant, but thought I should make a note of it
- also, the waitresses wear ties along with the waiters. I always thought this was kind of weird...so if you want to work there, just know you should be prepared to wear a tie

Looking for great Chinese in the south bay.....look no further because the food here rocks. You'll never go back to P.F. Changs after you've tried W's (and I'm not talking the idiot in washington). It's loud, fun, and delicious.

Always fresh! Always delicious!
My favorite thing to order for lunch is the shrimp vegi bowl. The shrimp are enormous and the vegis are cooked just right. The hot and sour soup is tasty and delicious. The won ton soup is a meal in itself!
One of these days I'll have to try their cocktails! They sound delightful!

W's caught my attention right away when it opened. You walk into this warm and inviting restaurant and you immediately see the fine attention to detail. It's well designed and offers a mouth-watering menu to satisfy the most discriminating pallet. Everything I've tried I enjoyed. I'd like to try some things I have yet to enjoy. They have beautiful hostesses and I'm not talking ding-dongs. Oops! And the food...yes, the food! Ask for Cindy. She'll make sure your evening is WWWonderful with capital W's.

A really nice place to go for Chinese food that is slightly Americanized. They start you off with some crispy won tons that are extremely oily, but hey greasy food is the best. I love their pan-fried noodles with beef, it's delish! Their orange chicken and tofu are really good too. The service is impeccable. Inside, the place is poshly decorated, but it's almost always crowded so make reservations. I've been here many times, and have never been disappointed!

this place is amazing!!! i love their food and the sirloin is to die for!!! i highly recommend it!!!
I agree with the other reviewer, this is what PF Changs WISHES it were. I love the intimate lighting and decor. The food has been nothing less than excellent every time I've gone.

I had a conversation with a local couple over dinner at the Green Temple restaurant & they recommended W's to me as an awesome place for Chinese food, which I love. Last night was my first visit to W's......I just got a take-out because I was badly dressed & exhausted. The dining area of W's is very attractive. The service I received was exceptional - he went over the menu with me, knowledgeably explaining & making suggestions. The menu is not overly extensive.....it seems they would prefer to focus on quality. I was having the day from hell, so decided to treat myself to the aged beef tenderloin with bok choy (love it), roma tomatoes & a little onion. I chose brown rice, but didn't eat it......because after I tasted the extremely generous portion of beef, I wanted nothing else. It was the most tender & flavorful beef I have ever had......true perfection. I was sent home also with a bag of the special chips they serve before the meal.....I could have eaten the whole bag. W's is open 7 days for lunch & dinner, but I was warned that it is packed all day on weekends. Reservations are accepted. I can walk to this place from home, how lucky, because I have found a 5-star treasure in my own backyard.
6/14 Update: Any beef dish is delicious; I have had 3 so far. They now have happy hour from 4-6 whereby appetizers & select dinner entrees are half price if you sit at the bar or on the patio. My incredible meal last night cost $6.50!! The staff at this restaurant, including the chefs, are super cool. This is a wonderful place.
9/2006 Update: The menu has expanded! It is amazing, so many new choices. I like the orange chicken, and still, all the beef dishes. I am beginning to work my way into the seafood. The lunch dishes are an especially good value. Note: W's is closed for one hour between lunch and dinner - from 3 to 4, on weekdays.
