I go there occasionally, and it is typically only for karaoke. I have gone on many other occasions, and didn't like it much due to the ridiculous wait time to get a drink. About 98% of the staff is rude or act like you don't exist. The food is great, however, some of it is a little over priced. ($6.50 is what I was charged for a luke warm bowl of chowder). Their Ahi Tuna is the best thing going though. Very tender, great taste, and served with some nice wasbi on the side. Great.
It is ALWAYS crowded, and unless you get their early, you will be sitting with people you don't know. Their karaoke is awesome. Danny, the KJ, has an excellent system, and song choice. It is ran on Tuesdays and Saturdays (the time changes A LOT.... so you might want to call ahead). Make sure you either sit at the bar, or find the chic with the butter fly tattoo on her chest with the really cool hair (I think her name is Nikki or something like that) or the really big bald guy named Big Al, that is singing karaoke. They seem to have the inside scoop on who the good wait staff is. They are the ones who got me a table the last time I was out there, and my waiter was awesome.
It is outside, so dress for the elements. They do offer some good entertainment (most of the time), and you can check it out on the calendar on the back of their menu. If you have a large group, I would recommend you show up early, as they do not reserve seats.
Woody's is a great place to spend the summer evenings. The bartenders and waitstaff are friendly and the food is reasonable. Don't let the "biker bar" tag keep you from going and enjoying a cold beer. Wheelchair accessible and entertainment is great.
As local digs go Woody's is one of the best. Cold beer, good food and great weather! Hard to find? You bet! It's along the Manatee River, overlooking the I-75 overpass and nestled into a corner of a very old trailer park. Not only are parking spaces at a premium on weekends, but lunch or dinner everyday! You dont have to dress to go to Woody's, just come as you are. I hesitated for quite a while to visit Woody's as its reputation as a biker bar is true, much like Down the Hatch at New Smyrna Beach. There's Bikers galore on the weekend from Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete, Sarasota and Naples. And then there are the Caddies and Lincolns too. Reviewers from the north...or CA may want to think that Woody's patrons are down-scale retiree's but I would bet that there are more millionaires in Woody's than having high tea at the Ritz. A true local haunt, so Yankees, stay home!
