Awesome wine and Taylor was a great host. I liked the 2008 estate cab best.

Dear Woodward Canyon,
Thanks for including us in your last pour of the night, and for sharing great wines with a low-key panache. We really enjoyed the whole tasting room experience. It made up for the too cool for school service we experienced next door, and left us with a great feeling. We'll be back!

My girlfriend and I visited several wineries in Walla Walla this past weekend and Woodward Canyon was one we really enjoyed (along with Dunham Cellars and Gramercy).
Taylor and the other gentleman who were working that afternoon were very knowledgable and personable, exactly what I look forward to in a complete tasting experience. We enjoyed our time here and being self proclaimed californian wine 'snobs' that spoil themselves on napa and santa barbara area wines, we really enjoyed woodward canyon as some of the best wines Walla Walla offers.
We even joined Taylor and the other gentleman working over at Gramercy Cellars (a recommendation of Taylor's) after they closed. Great people, great wine. Thanks! -

Very cute little house, but with more than 5 or 6 people it gets loud and crowded and difficult to hear about the wines much less taste them. Wines were nice. No place to sit and not dog friendly.

Okay, bumping Woodward Canyon up to 5 stars. I visit the winery at least once a year. 3 yrs ago I purchased a bottle of 2005 Syrah and decided to keep it in my wine fridge (56 degrees) for 3 yrs, turning it ever so often. My patience ran short last week and I decided to share it with some friends. Oh my did my patience pay off. I remember loving this wine when tasting it 3 yrs ago, but it aged and matured magnificently. Delicious burst of blackfruit and spice, well rounded. Forget the food, we drank this one by itself. Fantastic.

One of the big boys of food wine in Walla Walla, you can't miss visiting this winery. The wine at Woodward Canyon is classic, elegant and surprisingly varied. Although it's easy for a winemaker to get roped into a particular style of wine, these guys have everything from the mild and easy to the big and bam! It's worth stopping in for several reasons:
1. It's a nice drive out to the winery.
2. The building is quaint and the staff super friendly.
3. If you take the time to ask questions, you'll get an education.
4. For the tasting fee, they pour a lot of wine and aren't afraid to break out the good stuff. Of course you'll want to buy a bottle, thus waiving the tasting fee anyways.
I must quote a previous Yelp! review, "Regardless of your taste in wine, I would recommend Woodward Canyon for the opportunity to taste wine from one of the valley's earliest and longstanding estate wineries." So, why four stars instead of five? I have a tendency to judge wine as to how it holds up with and without food. Woodward Canyon is amazing food wine, no doubt. But to really enjoy their wine without food, you need to spend quite a bit on one of the higher end bottles. But that's just my humble opinion... You'll love the wine. And that's the bottom line. -

About 12 miles west of Walla Walla on the main highway into town, you'll find Woodward Canyon Winery. The tasting room is located in an old farm house, which provides an appropriate setting for one of the state's earliest wineries.
Opening the door to the farmhouse, I was immediately greeted with a friendly welcome by Sarah, the person behind the bar. The tasting room takes up most of the first floor of the house, with plenty of space to walk around and enjoy your wine. This is a shop focused on selling wine, with few, if any, of the traditional gift shop items (e.g., caps, clothing, books, etc) found elsewhere these days.
On this Monday, the winery was pouring complimentary tastes of two (2) white wines and five (5) reds. With each pour, the person shared the name of the wine, the varietals it comprised and where the grapes were sourced. They even had a appellation/vineyard map on the counter so you could locate where each wine's grapes were grown. Crackers were served along with water, but no other food was offered in the tasting room.
Sarah was very knowledgeable and only had to refer to notes on one occasion. Her energy and enthusiasm really got me excited about their wines and definitely helped make that connection to the winery I was seeking.
As a result of the enthusiasm I showed in return, Sarah offered a special tasting from behind the bar. It was one of Woodward Canyon's estate cabernets, the 2003 Old Vines Cabernet. It is always a treat to be offered something like this, as it provides yet another way to connect the customer to the winery.
I was impressed that the service provided by Sarah at Woodward Canyon remained consistent from the moment I opened the door through the tasting of wines to the point I expressed a desire to buy a bottle. In some establishments, I have at times felt overlooked and underserved until I signal an interest in buying.
If you're a cabernet, merlot and/or chardonnay fan, then this is a worthwhile stop in the Walla Walla Valley. Regardless of your taste in wine, I would recommend Woodward Canyon for the opportunity to taste wine from one of the valley's earliest and longstanding estate wineries. And if you happen to meet Sarah behind the bar, I would be willing to bet you leave with a deeper connection to the place. -
