An additional review is needed because this lovely spot has made some improvements to the outside dining area. Our cycling group was looking for a place to get a bite after our weekly climb and decided to go here because it's a casual place with reasonable prices. The food has been consistently good. With the addition of the fireplace, gas warmers, clear wind screening, and retractable awning, it's become even nicer to dine outside.
Our server was great, really friendly and prompt. The food was YUMMY and fresh. One in the group enjoyed a margarita pizza with lovely fresh and sweet tomatos, my burger was outstanding. Could have relaxed there for hours....
Definitely am going back to enjoy wine by the fireplace!
Its nice cafe, but it's more of a restaurant. They've got a great patio in the back with heating that's perfect for al fresco dining. It's a good little spot for a snack or for a meal. Plenty of parking. Staff seemed nice. I'll have to come back and order a full meal next time.
This is one of my favorite places to jog to or bike to on Saturday or Sunday mornings and have a cup of coffee and a pastry. It gets busy and loud but I just zone out on a paper or the nice scenery.
They make my favorite Fruit Tart ever! Not even Whole Foods comes close to it. But sometimes their staff gets a little snappy at you when it's busy so you get that "No dilly dallying" sense. Over all though it's a really great place for cakes and pastries. I've never been there after 11am so I've never had their pizza or anything, but if they put half as much effort into their pizza as they do those tarts, I'm sure it's good.

Love it. The country feel of woodside with the smokey wood fired oven and plush interior. All great and there is a patio in the back. Food is pretty tasty too. I scarfed down a steak sandwich and Caesar salad. The lady had an apple gorgonzola cranberry salad. We just wanted a snack but really want to try pretty much everything on the menu which is rare. Can't wait to go back. Pastries look amazing. They gave us bread that tasted like pizza dough straight from the oven and it was killer. On the down side the service was a bit slow but I think we were there between the lunch and dinner seatings. Definately going back.
I love the baked goods and the coffee. This is a great place to stop early in the morning before work to pick up some croissants and fruit tarts for breakfast. Don't stick with your favorites all the time, since there is a lot to choose from, and it's all worth a taste. Admire the gorgeous cakes and pies in the gleaming display counters, which you can order by the slice or bring home whole for a special event. The Woodside and Santa Cruz Mt wines they offer are worth ordering for dinner. The selections and atmosphere here change with the time of day and the seasons, so it's never the same place twice. Sometimes it will be packed. I prefer the mornings, when those in know have the place pretty much to themselves.
I just stumbled onto a review of this place and had a flashback to many years ago when I ate there on a first date (it was the date's suggestion as their "favourite" place!).
I remember the waiter brought some bread and some olive oil for dipping it in. It looked good, but before I got a chance to dig in, the date said, "Take that away. Are you trying to kill us?" My date proceeded to order a salad "hold the dressing, hold the avocado."
Needless to say there were no repeat dates!
I clearly had repressed the entire memory as I haven't thought about it in years, but seeing the name Woodside Bakery & Cafe triggered the memory! I guess I've fully "dealt" with it now. Thank you Yelp.

If you are in search of an afternoon delight after hiking, biking or hanging around Woodside, or if you're just passing through, stop by and grab chocolate chip cookie. It's thin, soft and chewy. I liked the one with walnuts.
I also tried the Vanilla eclair with powdered sugar on top. It got a little messy while I was eating it, but I was wearing jeans anyway, so who cares if I had white specks all over my pants?

Still my favorite restaurant in Woodside. For the price-point it kick's the Village Pub's too expensive butt and make's Buck's look like fast food. Their pizzas are really good and with the addition of the beautiful outdoor seating Mark has really made this place look great and feel great. Great group of folks working and running the spot and it really shows.

Give me mouth-watering cookies or pastry at the end of a tough day & I will soon be happy, happy, happy. Almost too many choices here...which keeps me coming back. Anyhoo, needed a 40th b'day cake for a friend...she wanted butter-cream frosting w/carrot cake. BORING! You can find one anywhere, but it was her 40th & I wanted it to be special.
Ordered the cake here. It was soooo good, she wrapped & froze the leftovers, rather than her usual MO of making everyone take some home.
This bakery was a true contributor to her happy 40th!!!! (Now, if only she'll unfreeze a piece for me down the road......)

This is a review by a vegetarian
The first time I had an after-hike here they served us some bread which is made there. Excellent. The second time, no bread.
The basic pizza was pretty good but the specialty one was meh.
Still, it's a good location and a nice courtyard.

Lovely back patio, good salads, cakes, breads and pastries, the brunch menu offers extensive choices and are prepared with fresh ingredients, lots of wait staffs running around but the service is minimal and ultra slow; anyhow we enjoyed ourselves, I would be interested to visit at dinner sometime.
Honestly, I'd give it a higher score if the guy at the register wasnt always in a crappy mood when I come in. I'm always chipper and smiling, and by the time I leave I feel like I have been snubbed.
I really like the food, and the lattes here are pretty good (I am a harsh judge on lattes ;-) ), but coming in is a drag because the guy just seems so blah and flat - like he could care less if you're in his store or not.
After looking below, I dont think I'm the only one who's received this - "I could give a crap"- treatment. I'm no princess, by any means...but come on, give your customers a smile, at least.
Ugh. Snobby older dude, get over yourself. You have happy customers who came in with a smile and are leaving with a frown....not a great way to maintain your customer base.
I would stop here more often (like 3-4 times a week, instead of once every other week or more) if it wasnt for the meh-treatment.

I would give this five starts, but sometimes the waiters and staff have major 'tude. But really, the cakes and pies are worth ten stars. The cherry pie gets me really high.
Just discovered this jem today. We came for lunch. The place is so cute. The patio is even cuter!! They have the Italian made sodas which I really love. We got pizza and a crab melt sandwich. Looks like they have good breakfast too, we will come back and try that out too. Food was excellent and service was great! Bakery items look delish as well. I got some cookies to go.
The food at the Woodside Bakery is excellent, but like some of the reviews below, the service definitely needs major improvement.
I was here with my family the other week and we had to wait literally 15 minutes to get 3 lattes and a mocha! When we saw our order on the counter about 5 minutes after ordering, we assumed it was ours and proceeded to take it, but the barista rudely insisted that it wasn't ours.
After the drinks had been left on the counter for another 5-10 minutes untouched, it was obvious the drinks were ours so we decided to take them. This time, the barista gave us an incredibly rude remark, saying "Fine, just get out and take them!"
After this negative experience, I am not sure I will go back to the bakery until they improve their customer service.
Bakery with a lot of items to choose from..
croissants, muffins, cookies, tarts and cakes just to name a few.
come come take a look, but if you plan on coming during the weekends it would be a good idea to come early cause they run out of some things quite quickly.
y 3 stars? well lets just say the guy helping us could of been a lot more nicer...

The service was a little slow (minus 1) but the food was good. The bread with oil and vinegar were good. We sat outside for dinner and the place had a nice atmosphere. I ordered a pasta dish with prawns and my boyfriend knows this wise old man who says it's not a meal unless you have a minimum of five prawns. My pasta only had 4. Minus a point.

The staff has changed a bit... for the better! The owner or manager is super cool. The bus staff is superb and treat us very well.
Still in love with the bread and soup... and am always interested in their specials!

My experience for lunch was a complete disappointment. Extremely slow service, food took about 45 minutes to arrive and it wasn'tt that good. When I asked the waitress about my food or refilling beverages she was slow to respond and on one occassion didn't respond. the salad had too much dressing even when i asked for it to be light or just placed on the side. The chikcen was slightly tough. My friend had a sandwich which was just OK. I would say avoid this place and go to Bucks. Less attitude and better food.
This place is GREAT! Even walking inside smells amazing. So on the right side is the restaurant and the left is the bakery. The bakery has yummy pastries, my favorite is the is cream cheese danish.
The cafe is one of my favorites. Their salads are delicious and omg have you tried their focaccia bread? Dip the bread in oil and vinegar and you'll be in heaven. They have inside and outside seating. The patio has a fire place outside, makes it very cozy. The inside gets pretty loud because of all the slate but overall the decor is nice.

It's a great place for lunch. I had the omelette Mediterranean and Bf had a pizza. Mine was good but I may go with pizza next time b/c it's greater!
If not going on weekends and not during some kinds of festivals, the traffic would be OK.

Normally, our post-ride spot is Bucks, but we decided to give this place a try this weekend.
My friend recommended the warm spinach salad which she said was excellent. But since she had it the day before, she selected the salmon salad.
The other three of us were really hooked with the Omelette mediterraneo though and all three ordered this dish. My two friends liked there meals, but I thought it was just ok, nothing specatacular.
The bread rolls that some diners seemed to get looked amazing, but we were never offered any. Not even my friend who ordered a lunch meal! So I guess they are a bit stingy (as another yelper pointed out) about their bread.
The thing that just KILLED the experience for me was the lack of service. It's been a long time since I've experienced this sort of bad service, but this place really has a problem. Our server took our order and then we never saw him again. They forgot the side of bread that comes with the omelette and that took a long time to correct. When we all finished our water and were looking around for our server to catch his attention, he completely ignored us and luckily another observant server noticed that we were thirsty. Finally, we waited a LONG time to get our check and try to catch our server's attention again. During this long wait, we noticed others were also irritated with the lack of service and finally some of them actually got up and walked to the front to pay the bill.
I would give one star, but the place does have some ambiance so I've added a star. Be forewarned though, their service apparently sucks.

I love coming to eat at the bakery/cafe. I am a big fan of the ravioli, the soups, the thin-crust pizzas.....and the breakfasts. The outside terrace is cute and has heat lamps for those semi-chilly Woodside nights.
Coffee/Teas are superb and the bakery items are great as well. I've tasted the vast selection of cakes because my work used to get cakes here for any celebration.

I decided to make my 100th review the restaurant where I have probably eaten the very most... My parents live nearby and eat dinner at the Woodside Bakery literally 2-3 nights/week. They love it! And I agree that it is pretty delicious...
The restaurant is set in beautiful Woodside surrounded by trees and with horses walking by. The inside of the restaurant is very cozy with marble tables, a large wood-fired oven for pizza's, a huge bakery area, and a great outside deck.
You can start your meal with delicious wine. You'll also get warm bread rolls that are amazing. They are great with the oil and vinegar but don't fill up on them because the food is good too :). Every night the menu includes a special soup, salad, pasta, pizza, etc. This is great for people who eat at Woodside Bakery way too often ;). The specials are often delicious and definitely worth trying especially when they have the black bean soup and the prawn salad. Some of the other best dishes (in my opinion) are the warm spinach salad, Woodside chopped salad, lamb salad, salmon fettucini, mushroom ravioli, and thin-crust pizzas. The prices are reasonable too though the portion sizes have gotten smaller. For dessert, I highly recommend the coffee and the warm apple and berry cobbler a la mode! Wow, so delicious!!! The pastries are great as well especially the biscotti.
The servers are nice as well and I think you'll have an all-over great experience if you choose Woodside Bakery for lunch or dinner!

I really like this cafe. The food and the bakery are just delicious. The owner is one of the friendliest guys in the world and is always there to shake hands, supervise, talk to people to see how they like everything. He is a really hands-on manager and it shows.
They just did a major, expensive remodel and I predict will end up killing that old fossil of a restaurant, BUCK's. They now have more chairs out in the back with heat lamps and shades against the sun. The bread pre-meal is delicious with olive oil and vinegar and the water fresh and clean.
I have gotten several items on the menu and I love their salads and their sandwiches, very filling and well made with fresh ingredients and care in the preparation.
This is Woodside so you will be surrounded with people talking about angel funding, P and O's, venture capital and "I'm divorcing my husband but he doesn't know it yet until my lawyer delivers the papers", so keep your ears open and gather all the juicy gossip you can. Going out to eat is not all about the food is it? No way, it is the entire dining experience.
And the bakery is out of this world. Get the bear claw, fantastic and flavorful.
So, head down 280 to Woodside Road, stop in the lot across from Roberts market and eat here. It is very, very busy so be prepared to wait. Hopefully that cute waitress behind the counter will serve you. What a babe.

While on a long bike ride, my husband, friend and I decided to stop here and get some hot chocolate. Well...that turned into an early dinner.
The place is cute. The inside seating is small but they have a large back patio which is really cute. We ordered our hot chocolates first and right off the bat I was dissapointed. The server managed to spill one of the hot chocolates all over my husband who was wearing jeans and a white t-shirt. The whole table was filled with chocolate. I wasn't mad about it but dissapointed that no one else that worked there even bothered to help. Here this poor server was swimming in hot chocolate as I am sitting there laughing trying to help with my one napkin. But it got cleaned up and we decided to do a "Do Over" and start over again. We got our 3 hot chocolates and ordered some food.
My husband and I shared a pasta dish which was really tasty. It was super fresh and chocked full of spinch, beef, corn and squash. It was really really good. Our friend ordered a mushroom pizza. The pizza was stacked with mushrooms...just a little too much mushrooms if you asked him.
The bread they serve before the meal is really delicious--warm and toasty. We dipped it into the olive oil and balsamic vinegar that is included on the table.
Our waitress was cute and friendly and very attentive (except for the major chocolate spill that happened with the server).
I gave it 3 stars because I didn't feel the service was that fabulous plus we thought it was pretty expensive. The cost of our 3 hot chocolates, the pizza and a pasta dish was well over $50. Thats a bit steep for a cafe dinner in my opinion....but then again...this is Woodside!

Bleh?
Went there for Sunday brunch, and wasn't that impressed. We were sat in the back patio area (a lot quieter than inside next to the kitchen). I felt like I needed to whip out the bike shorts and jersey outfit that 60% of the patrons were using to fit in.
Waiter was nice... but not all there. We didn't receive our drinks until 15 min after we ordered our food. I ordered a custom omelette (4 items are free, rest after cost $0.50 - $1.00... I got bacon, avocado, mushroom, onions, and cheddar). My boyfriend got the mushroom and asparagus frittata.
Another long wait and we finally received our food. First off... frittata versus omelette: Fritatta, eggs with veggies mixed in, cooked in pan. Omelette, eggs with veggies mixed in, cooked in pan, folded over itself. That was the only difference between our orders. Wha? They also forgot the cheese in my omelette, and that just isn't tasty.
Since the waiter didn't ask for my bread order, I ordered a side of sourdough to go with my meal when it arrived. Waiter kinda gave me a weird look and said I ordered wheat. Umm.. no, don't really like wheat toast. Apparently my meal came with toast and he just assumed I'd get the same as my partner. Didn't matter much, because about 75% through our meal, we finally got the toast. I had to flag the guy down after everything was through and ask for jam.
The whole place seemed like it was really nice and would be a great meal, if things were coordinated well (and if they had better omelettes; I detest the omelette ingredients mixed with the eggs first). Bah!

this place was ehh. best part: ecofriendly to go supplies. what does that say about their food?
I'm only writing based on my experience with their coffee apple cake (or apple coffee cake).
Delicious.
It's like a gigantic apple tart. They don't sell as a slice, so you need to purchase the whole cake (about $18). Cut a slice, put it in oven for 5-10 min until bread becomes crunchy. That's the best way to enjoy it in my opinion. They also have cherry coffee cake and whole bunch of other cakes and pastries.
3.5 stars. Cool little bakery in the little hidden town of Woodside and next to the legendary Buck's. Nice tempting selection of cakes (whole or can be purchased separately), baked goods, and scrumptious-looking pies.
Chocolate mousse cake - 3 stars - supposedly one of their more popular items but it was ho hum and average. Nowhere even close to SBF's fantastic choc mousse.
Bottom line: Cool place, but the mousse looked better than it tasted. Willing to come back and try other items.

The pastries are divine, but it's the mushroom-spinach soup that I truly adore! It is perfect for a cool day and very filling. While some restaurants prepare their soup with too much salt or the texture as too watery, the Woodside Bakery and Cafe serves it at the perfect consistency.

Long wait next door at Bucks so just wandered in to give this place a try, and I'm glad that we did! I got the spanish omelet with chorizo, green chiles, and sour cream. And my husband got raspberry and chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were sooooo good, and my omelet was pretty yum as well. Service could have been better -- all of the wait staff were really spacey, but they were nice. I will definitely come here again. Comparable to Stacks, but without the wait.

I love this place. If you have a sweet tooth they have some of the best pastries you'll find in the bay area. Perfect if you like Italian food. They've got awesome pasta's. Ideal for a nice Sunday lunch/brunch.

So here's the deal.
I absolutely LOVE the food from Woodside Cafe. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all great - you just can't go wrong.
Why do I give it only 3 stars you ask?
...because the owner is a douche-bag. We have been eating there for years. Granted, he has only been running it for about 2 years +/-, but the guy never, ever, EVER acknowledges us as regular customers. EVER. He always makes eye contact and if he is anything like the rest of the world, he recognizes a face when he sees it often. He used to own another restaurant in Redwood City called Breakers Cafe but the new owners, Jim and his wife, are much better.
It's a shame...the food is pretty darn good!

This place has an amazing bakery. I went their with my GF and her family and had an awesome salad w/ tuna. The bread that comes with the meal is some of the best I've had in the bay as well. I plan on coming here very often in the future.... I can't wait to try more of their pastries and desserts for sure!
They also have a pretty amazing outdoor dining area which would be perfect for a warm night (which woodside has plenty of)!
If you don't feel like waiting for Buck's next door, this is a great alternative. Generally not much wait time to get seated, service is equally speedy. Nothing really special about breakfast food in general, but no complaints from me. Big plus that I can pick up some cookies on my way out.

I just keep going back!
Bakery with yummy breads, pastries, cookies (say it like the blue fuzzy monster with me .. C O O K I E!), and the usual assortment of caffeinated concoctions. Small indoor seating area for the bakery. (Yesterday they had re-organized & moved the chairs & tables so that people could actually stand in line and get to the counter without sticking their toned, lycra-clad rear ends in a stranger's fruit tart ... this had always been a pet peeve of mine there.) Young friendly staff, but by no means 5-star service. Prepare for a little confusion & slowdown at the register.
Attached sit-down restaurant, with very pleasant outdoor seating in the back. Great venue for all sorts of scenarios, from Sunday brunch for two (make your own omelettes are my favorite ... with bread rolls that really hit the spot!) to group dinners. I usually think of Woodside Bakery as a place to go for brunch after a long hilly bike ride or run, but dinners are surprisingly good and pleasant.
Oh, and the place is very bicycle (and bicyclist) friendly, for which they deserve extra appreciation, especially in Woodside.

Stopped by for a quick afternoon cup of coffee and muffin and what did I find - the cutest most yummy bakery ever!! Stuffed down the best cheese danish I've ever had - no fat residue left on my tongue like I get from bakeries that use cheap fake shortening. They toasted it up for me - made my latte extra hot and no foam - just perfect. I was in heaven - I took in out on the back patio and to top it off I watched all the men in their tight bicycle shorts - fun fun. Going back for breakfast this weekend!!
I come to Woodside Cafe for lunch whenever I want a quiche. They have a "quiche of the day" on their menu, and it is served with a very well made soup. Sit on their patio in the Spring...a little sunlight makes the experience that much better.

Summary: Food wasn't bad, and the other reviews probably have it right as far as your average experience goes. We just had a horrible one.
Hours/Mins
00:00 We arrive and sit down.
00:05 We order.
00:45 The waiter comes back, and tells me the kitchen ran out of croissants and as a result, the whole order, including that of my dining partner, was never processed.
... so, we waited 40 minutes for him to tell us everything was held up because they ran out of croissants? He apologized and said the manager would come out and talk to us (which did not happen) and then the meal would be free of charge. I was going to write a four-star review about this place because of how sincere his apology was but then...
... they stuck us with the bill anyway. Sweet.
