love this place. not pretentious (AHEM, other store in MV) and not dirty. huge selection of food, including the one and only kibble I will deign to feed my dogs. staff is sweet, if a little flaky, but super helpful all the same. get a frequent flyer card. after resisting for over a year, I finally caved in, and... saved $.
This is the place to go if you have a DOG in Marin! So heck, if'n yer finding it ain't cheap (and it ain't), then you can still supplement yer purchases by going to Pet Club in Corte Madera (ICK!!) or Petco in San Rafael (ok - I do it sometimes). But Woodlands earns their keep in my book - it's not pretentious, it's just a great experience; they have the coolest, friendliest customer service, the place is well-kept, clean, organized, and they pack an amazing amount of really quality stuff into a good-sized, non-intimidating space that's very manageable to navigate with yer pooch in tow. Have not yet used the DIY pet wash, but I think we shall!!- it's a great idea. For the service, selection, and overall vibe, 5 stars all the way!
P.S. For the reviewer who said there isn't ample parking, I felt the same way until I checked 'round back - there's a ton.

People lets face it - this is THE pet store for Marin, who cares if YOU cant afford it, someone else CAN & WILL! Woodlands Pet Food & Treats employees have good customer service and do try (unlike some other stores) their best to satisfy. Unless you are a former employee then they give you hell every time you come in. Ha ha!
Rob carries a brod spectrum of foods to select from, even raw food - Primal and Natures Variety. The toy selection is good especally for puppies and first time dog owners. Also they host low cost V.I.P mobile vet clinics, Marin Humane Puppy Training and Hopalong / Second Chance Adoption days. My personal favorite is the Pet Wash, it's do it your self and let me tell you if 24 hr. fitness had showers that looked like this, I would be a member!
I like the idea of supporting a local instead of a huge chain co.

When I first moved to the North Bay I checked out all the pet stores around the area. I asked questions. I checked prices.
* What brands did they have?
* What did they not have?
* What was the cost compared to the other pet stores?
* What were the proprietors like?
* Was it a chain or a local store?
* What were the hours?
* Were they open on Sunday?
* What was the parking situation?
* What shops did my new neighbors with pets recommend?
* How did they treat pets that came in?
* Were the customer service folks knowlegeable about pet issues?
* What kennels / vets/ grooming shops did they recommend?
* Was the shop clean and well organized?
* How far did I have to drive to buy pet supplies?
Woodlands was the closest to my new house and close to my main grocery store, so they got the complete & detailed review. I wanted this to be the store that I did most of my shopping in.
They passed with flying colors, except for a couple of things.
* Parking is very limited.
* They carry good brands, but not a lot of choices.
* And, the one that cinched the deal - -
prices were typical Marin County. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!
I learned I can save lots of money by driving to Corte Madera to the Pet Club. The Pet Club is not high end shopping like Woodlands. It's like going to Safeway, instead of Whole Foods, for the staples. For the major portion of the shopping it is just as good. I only go to the high end shops for both me and my pets for stuff I just can't find elsewhere cheaper.
Yes, Woodlands is a great store. If you have $$ to burn and don't need to search out the best prices, by all means go there. They are nice, professional and knowledgeable folks. But, if you are like most of us, want & need to cut corners where we can, I recommend looking around at the other choices in Marin. The drive just may be WAY cheaper.

The store is always clean, organized, and well stocked. They carry a lot of food brands and have a convienent location with tons of parking in back. Love the pet wash where I can bathe and blow dry my dog and leave the mess there and not in my tub at home. Prices are higher than at Pet Pro/Pet Club, but they carry some great stuff you can find there.
The owners are great and super helpful. Some of the employees seem to need some coffee. Overall it's a great place with a very convenient dog wash.

They have everything under the sun for your pet- and it's not expensive like a typical boutique pet store.
No need to say more- it's just a good pet store with everything and good friendly service.

UPDATE-
I went in the other night to get molly a super duper water cooler/filter/refilling bowl- you know- that holds a big jug of water so I don't have to keep refilling molly's water- and molly gets the pure refreshing water an athlete of her caliber deserves.
I would give woodlands 6 stars if I could because they totally hooked me up. They didn't have any left in stock, so I was like awww.... but then they offered to give me the floor model for 10% off - and they cleaned it up! AND they had someone help me walk to my car with it even though I said I didn't need it many times.
But- it was a very nice touch. Grade A service. I wish all businesses paid this much attention to customer satisfaction.

This is my dog's Poncho's favorite place to shop. Even though I often give him a b-a-t-h when we go there, he still loves the experiece. I think it's because the people who work at Woodlands are so friendly, and always give him a treat before he leaves. He enjoys meeting all his doggie pals at this store, the way I enjoy bumping into my human friends at the bar...
An earlier poster compared them to Pet-Pro, but I think there's no comparison. Woodlands is much cleaner, friendlier, more open, MUCH more selection, and the employees are a lot more knowledgeable. The food that I feed Poncho is available at both stores, and the price is exactly the same.

Nice, big and trendy -- but way too expensive. Pet Pro, not far away at Tam Junction in Mill Valley is much more reasonably priced. Smaller and funkier, but the proprietors couldn't be nicer.
Woodlands has a great selection of healthy, high-quality food, all the best accessories for our dogs & cats, plus a wide range of supplies for pets of all types. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and their self-service dog wash makes cleaning the dog a LOT more fun!
