We stopped in this winery while in the area.  They offer a couple different flights to taste, one is $5 and the other is $10, but since they waive the fee with purchase, that's a moot point in my book.  Might as well go for the $10 tasting.

We shared a tasting of some pretty good Pinot's, and walked out with a bottle.  We will go back and do the other tasting next time we are in the neighborhood.

I have been here twice (both times during Barrel Tasting Weekend in March) and really enjoyed both visits. They have delicious wines, most of which are  fairly priced. They are a primarily red wine producing winery, so if whites are your thing know that this may not be your place.

Both times the staff has been warm and welcoming. We were the first to arrive last weekend and everyone was happy to help us right away. Definitely an organized team!

Last year we enjoyed some awesome cheeses, but sadly missed out on it this year's trip. If it's not a regular thing, I definitely think it should be! Also, don't miss the views from their deck - it's what wine country is all about.

Things that make you go, "hmmmm?"  I went to this winery last weekend and thought it to be phenominal.  Wine, service, scenery, the whole kit and kabutal (sp?)   Maybe the proprieter read these few reviews and made changes for the better?  Or were the previous 3 reviewers drunk?  Broke?  Don't really know $hit about wine?  I can tell you we cracked a bottle with friends who I believe to have good taste with wine in general and they raved about it.  So, like I said, things that make you go, "hmmmmm...."

This was my second trip to Woodenhead, both during barrel tasting. They produce 1 white and it's only released during late spring or summer, but that's my favorite of their wines. They do a lot of reds, so odds are they have something you'll like. Everything from light reds to heavy full bodied. The view from their patio is beautiful.

Two stars because the winery itself is GORGEOUS!!!! The tasting room is beautiful and in a great spot up on a hill with a deck that overlooks the valley.  One of the prettiest spots I've been to in wine country.

The wines were OKAY, but for the $40 and up pricetags...not worth it at all  (and i'm happy to pay a whole lot more for a good wine), and the woman behind the counter was very bitchy.

The whole time she acted like she just didn't give a crap.  She was talking to another employee and said she'd filled her quota of bottles sold for the day, so she didn't care anymore.  My boyfriend and I shared a tasting, and she gave us the tiniest of tastes.  Now I've been a constant taster for the last 2 years, and have been to just about every winery in napa and near sonoma, and quite a few in the dry creek area, among many other regions.  I've never had tastes this small.  Not a big deal, but it was only 4 wines and it cost $5.

At the end I handed her my $5 and she rudely told me it was $5 EACH and I still owed her.  I reminded her that we shared a tasting, and she blew it off, but didn't apologize for her tone.  I'll definitely be avoiding all their associated wineries.  Not a good experience - and there are too many great ones up there to waste my time here.

If you like wine You Will Like Woodenhead wines.  If you love Pinot and Zin you will love Woodenhead.  If you like unique small production wines created by folks who love wine and do it because they have to, you will love these wines.
Nick and Zina are two of the best folks ever and the fact that they bring into this world a delicious beverage that rivals some of the best Pinot an Zin the fine Sate of California can produce.  Nicks wines are lush, concentrated and sublime in their complexities and nuances galor.  Each bottle is a new expedience and my love them is always growing.   The fact that they don't cost you and arm and a leg doesn't hurt either.

Their wines are actually ok, nothing special, but the HORRIBLE service makes me want to run, not walk away from them.  We visited them on barrel tasting weekend which granted is very busy, however DUH it is a huge weekend event so of course it is busy which is why wineries participate- they make a crap load of money.
So we enter Woodenhead.  It's pretty and casual and seems like your standard Sonoma Co. winery- should have good wine and good people.  You enter in a front room and there is an open door to a bathroom.  So I went in to use it.  Well since it was wide open I didn't see the sign on the door that said employees only.  Which meant I had to pee while employees banged on the door and then yelled at me on the way out for using their bathroom.  If it is so private, shut the door when  you are done so people don't use it!
But the bathroom debacle of 08 is nothing compared to the cork I took the eyebrow when the staff popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate getting through barrel tasting.  Now while a cork to the eyebrow was painful, I laughed and figured the staff was stressed.  I expected nothing more than I am sorry are you OK?  However I got an I hope you don't plan to sue us because we have no money.  Right, so customer service is a foreign concept to Woodenhead, they can't handle event weekends, and their wines certainly don't make up for their other shortcomings.  So skip it, go somewhere where you can find both good wine and service in Sonoma County which their are no shortage of wineries.  Stryker, Hanna, and Paradise Ridge are good jumping off points.  Sunce has awesome owners who let you taste everything to find what you like.   Woodenhead is a huge SKIP!
