This goes straight to the top of my favorite wineries list.
They are not open every weekend, but if they are, do yourself a favor and go to this vineyard. I'm told that they do open up by appointment too. I took my girl here for our anniversary and it turned out to be one of the better decisions I have made.
They had live music and different stands for each wine with pairings of cheese and fruit. The setup looked like a wine and cheese market, which added a nice touch. At the front they collect $10 and give you a wine glass that has Wood Family Vineyards imprinted on it. They do not return the entrance fee even if you buy a bottle, but believe me, it is worth it.
I ended up buying three bottles here, if that means anything. They are definitely doing something right here. -

My family and I went to Wood Family for Holiday in the Vineyards (a local event put on each year to benefit toys for tots) and had an awful experience. We got there with 3 toys in hand, we put them in the bin and the lady working tells us $5 for each tasting - well there is two things wrong with that. 99% of all the vineyards in Livermore participant in this event and when you donate a toy you receive a free tasting. So (1) we did not get a free tasting and (2) the lady was completely rude about the whole situation when we inquired about the toys and that the 4 of us were sharing tastings. We paid the money and got over the rudeness of the lady and went on to taste.
DON'T BOTHER!!!!!! THE WINE WAS AWFUL. Their reserve wine (reserve is supposed to be best of the best, am i wrong, no) tasted so bitter I could barely choke it down, the only reason I swallowed it was because I had no where to spit it out, we all thought this. Not to mention every other wine we tried was just alright. Save your tasting fee money and go somewhere where you'll want to drink more than you dump. -

The Wood Family makes some of the best wines in town and that's saying a lot in Livermore! They're also incredibly nice people....I've never been tasting there but almost everywhere I've worked we've carried their wines and they always come in and are super cool.
Now I don't drink white. Ever. I am a huge fan of full bodied wines.....my favorites being Cabernet, Syrah, Petit Syrah and Zinfandel. That being said I must say that they have THE BEST Merlot. I could drink their '05 Merlot with any meal or just by itself it is SO fantastic. When you open the bottle the cork has a DEEP purple color to it and a smell that makes you want to taste this wine as soon as possible. Try it; you won't be dissapointed!! -

Wood Family is a local favorite. Rhonda makes great wines and is an enthusiastic Livermore wine personality. The winery is at their house and is (I believe) by appointment only but DO call and they will happily make sure you taste their wine and olive oil. LOVE the McGrail cabernet and so did everyone else because it's sold out.

We live in Livermore and have our choice of 40+ wineries. Wood Family is top-notch. Rhonda and crew were awesome during the Harvest Wine Festival. Good music, cool jewelry to buy, fantastic Syrah and Chardonnay. We got to try the reserve Cab too. YUM!
Compared to all of the wineries on that end of Greenville, Wood Family is the best!! -

The family is so friendly and accomodating; it's like going wine tasting at your aunt's house (minus any family drama). Even better is the wine itself. My favorite of all the Livermore wineries. DO NOT underestimate the Grenache - serve it slightly chilled with grilled beef.

This is one of those winery's that everyone wants to discover, a true find. Its moderately priced wines which many taste like $100+ bottles. We discoved this winery over dinner with friends in Livermore. It was recommended by the local sommelier. I must admit I was hesitant but this little winery blew me away! So much that we just had to go visit the actual winery. The wine we had was the Syrah.
To visit the winery you need to make a reservation, but don't let that turn you off. We made ours just a couple of hours before visiting. We were lucky enough to have the owner/wine maker guide us through a flight of all the wines. This would be virtually impossible at most other places. The exptertise was impressive, conversation wonderful, and the wines remained impressed. Our favorites are the Syrah (amazing), the Chardonay (lite and buttery, great clarity/color), and the Cabernet Savignon. The family doesn't produce much wine at all so they can really put a high level of TLC in with every barrel.
This isn't a wine you'll see at many/if any stores around. I think their wines are sold at maybe 5 places outside the winery. You also won't see them at many wine fairs or festivals.
So if you're in the area I would put this on the top of this list of the winery's to visit or try just try their wines. -

Wood family vineyards has the best quality wine in the $20-$30 range I have found in Livermore. I still prefer Steven Kent and La Rochelle but their wine is higher priced. Rhonda Wood is a solid winemaker and a genuinely nice person. Tasting is by reservation only but if she is home she'll let you taste. My favorite is her only white wine Mas Amigas Chardonnay. Across the board you will enjoy all of Rhonda's wines.

The roomie and I went wine tasting on singles awareness day. Our tasting experience was great. The two ladies handing out glasses at the doors loved my shoes and the roommates'. Feeling the shoe love, I was looking forward to loving the wine. Cute logo, knowledgeable and fun pourers, barrel tasting (my first ever!) so much I wanted to love. Alas, I did not love it. The wine was okay in my opinion. My palate isn't yours. It's worth a shot if you're out and about Greenville. I may have to go back and buy a glass...that logo is really cute.
